Getting to be a bit strange out there....over 15 killed and 50 injured in CO at a Batman showing...my heart goes out to the families involved there as well....SighAngel

Have a few things need catching up on today...I found out my sick leave was extended another 3 months...just to be sure...I love where I work..Thumbs Up

Hello all,

TGIF!!!!!!!!!!!!

Better news yet, it is raining. Yes 1.3 inches last evening and it was just starting to rain as I left for work this AM. Corn is shoulder high and in full tassel. This rain should help it grow ears.

Pat, how dry is it there. We've been feeding hay for a couple of weeks. Thankfully first cutting was a bumper crop.

Ray I'll add your friend to my  Angel along with BOC

Since Buckeye is contributing SS more can I reduce mine?????????/

Prayers for those in need

Sunny and low 100's today.  There were morning rain showers today, but they hit all around us - none on us.

The NYC helicopter parts car I got on e-bay arrived today.  The doors have a small latch, so they will not vibrate open.  When you open the doors, there is a simulated load of boxes.

New issue of CTT arrived yesterday.  The atricle about Gypsy Rose Lee was interesting.

Prayers for those who are healing and hurting - BOC, SPMan & others.

All for now.

Chief, keep on keeping on! Sounds better every day. Glad your wife is getting her space back, away from you. But I don’t understand whatever you mean when you said SHE PAID??? In my life, what ever I make is hers and whatever she makes is hers? So somehow I think you paid  Huh?

Nope.  Separate accounts.  Learned that from the ex-wife.  She hid an account and used all of mine.  Stole my money and the kids' college savings because they oppted to move with me.  This wife does not balance her account.  She stops drawing money for a while and then checks her balance.  I am a strict checkbook watcher and balancer.  I pay my bills and the house bills by computer.  She has just ventured into that.

Now for some popcorn and read my new CTT.

Well I had put tmcc into my N/S dash 8 and had taken the Tmcc out of my Williams PRR train-master and put it in the GG-1 I got by Williams this was about 2 months ago well 3 on the N/S well couldn't get the Williams GG-1 to work it worked befor coming out of the FM train-master well I was told to take the R2C board from the N/S and put into the GG-1 and see if it worked no so that told us it was the TMCC main board for DC commander well put the R2C board back into the dash 8 now it didn't work so sent both boards to ERR the checked them out replaced one and replaced the R2C board on the other sent them back to me get them back now the N/S has a short somewhere and the GG-1 only works in conventional and only one direction so this time I'm packing both up and sending everything to them let them see what they can come up with.

man if its not one thing its another Hope to get truck back tomorrow thats about $800 in repairs water-pump and other things. but this time took it to the GMC dealer next to work so the water-pump is guaranteed for as long as I own the truck.

Not much else going on. just relaxing talk to you all later hope to staya wake long enough for the crew to show up stayed up until 10:30 last night only saw kev for a while

Well it was a bit of work that I had to spread over the whole day with a sugar crash in the middle but the three Frankenstein F units are all running again. I had to take the cobbled together Proto/Kato chassis of the last unit out completely and replace it with an Athearn chassis with Proto trucks and a Proto motor. The trucks on the Proto/Kato chassis are trashed. The gear near the top of the tower in BOTH towers were broken and the gear below it was missing some teeth. I knew it took a hard hit but I didn't think it THAT hard. I've seen locos take a nose dive and come up with less drive damage than that. Oh well, the F unit trio is running again, that's all that counts. On the sugar crash, got down to 66. Wondered why I was feeling a little light headed. Did a check and found out why. Time to stop and eat was right then. Meat loaf, green peas, carrot, potatoes and some egg noodles took care of that problem.

It's a 69 very muggy degrees. We got a slow but steady rain all morning, boy did we need it. This is not a good year to be a farmer. Hats off to them we sure take for granted what they really mean to us. Looks like everything that is made with corn will take a big price increase this year. I am ready for the thingy, banilla, Butter Pcon, or strawberry-Lemon on the menu...S.J.

Hi all,

Well it seems a lot of the people around here got a lot of rain last night but we sure did not. Nothing!!! ?  Sad Sandra is trying to kill the Gator and the water pump on it. She is on tank 4 right now.

She just came in to tell me that the Gator will not start,, No kidding??

Funny when 90 degrees feels cool.

Good news is the MIL got out of the rehab center yesterday and is now back home in Yorkville. Yes Bet the BIL liked it better when he did not have to watch her. But in the 30+ years I have known him he has never had a job. Payback time.  Laugh

SP Ray, So sorry to hear about your friend Ed. Prayers for him and his loved ones. Angel One only gets a few real good friends in life.

Pulled the main electrical feed to the layout [240V] and breaker box I mount under edge of layout.  Reconnected in the Box and mounted the breaker box.  Next, I will do an outlet next to the breaker box to plug in the surge protector that powers the transformers and remote equipment.  Other breaker is for the outlets I will install around the benchwork to keep from having to pull drop cords.  This is so, when I leave, throw the breaker and I know everything is "dead".

......Probably "pull" out wiring upstairs and take to the Box.........

Chief.......I can just picture your wife, lurking around the house like a patient vulture, about to pounce, waiting for you to vacate that primo space where your old layout resides so she can commandeer the space. Laugh  Tell me I'm wrong!!!! Smile, Wink & Grin

Jack

Actually Jack, you are right on.  That is why SHE paid for the Box itself.  No joke.  She paid her middle Sister [who owned it] for it.  Very cheap for what I got.  It included the Box, side-by-side refrig. with ice in the door [now the main frig at the lake house], microwave and a color TV with DVD player.  The extras were worth more than what she paid for the Box.  So, let her have her room.  Also she gets the walkin attic closet [over kitchen] so I will not store her hoilday decorations tubs under my layout [like in the past]. Yes

Now off to a dinner meeting.  Will stick to my diet.

Chief Eagles, Laz57, MartyE, and Norm Charbonneau are in CTT July 2008. Its a article about installing Legacy which was new then. They each gave their feedback on Legacy.

Yes, I remember their smiling faces.  I cut out the Chief's photo and hung it near the furnace in the basement.  Laz's photo is hung near the sump pump.  Needless to say, I do not have any rodent problems in the basement.  Laugh

Ray......prayers for your best buddy, Ed.  Your visit with him was an act of true friendship and support, one that will remain forever in the minds of his thankful family, and one that has brought him comfort and peace when he needed it the most.  Far too many people would be afraid to act as you did, uncomfortable with the situation and not knowing what to say.

May God bless your friend.  He made his mark on the world, one that would be the envy of us all.

Good morning all

S.J., I did read of Kitty Well's passing and I certainly remember her. She was real country when country wasn't cool.  Heard her a lot growing up.  We will miss her.

Took car in for oil change this morning and got report on a lot of other stuff that needs attention.  Mainly a lot of rubber boots wearing out and need replaceing  along with possible ball joints, transmission fluid change needed etc.  Probably $600 worth of work piled up.  Need to get some more estimates from independents.  Dealers have too many mouths to feed.

When I got home this morning, got some sad news that my best pal is dying so I went over to see him probably for the last time.  His family was all gathered round and I felt priviliged to be allowed in to the circle.  He and I covered a lot of miles together.  We met in 1971 and to paraphrase Winston Churchill commenting on FDR, meeting Ed was like uncorking your first bottle of champagne.  We had lots of fun together and he helped me through some hard times emotionally.  We shared the love of circus, traditional jazz music, toy trains, drag racing (at one time) and many other things.  He was a former high wire walker with the famous Wallenda troupe in the late 50's and performed the well known 7 man pyramid with them.  He taught me how to walk the wire along with his daughter and we put together a three person pyramid back in the 70's but only for fun, not for the public.  He was one of the best Lionel Repair men in the country IMHO.  If he couldn't fix something he would build a new part for it.  No challenge was too great for him.  He kept my fleet of trains running for years.  It's hard to come to the end of the trail with him but we all have to face it sooner or later.  See you on the other side buddy.  God Bless You.

later,

Ray

Good morning. It's 81° and it already feels like 87°. The high will be 95° but will feel like 110°. There's a chance for rain.

The drive in my number three Frankenstein F unit was damaged in a wreck yesterday so I'll be rebuilding it today. I don't know yet the extent of the damage but it sounds serious. The shafts are turning but the gears in the bottom of the trucks are not. This is a rebuilt Proto/Kato drive with associated Proto trucks. I may replace it with a refurbished Athearn drive. The Proto motor will work fine on that and the Athearn drive will carry the weight of the Varney body well. Updates will be provided as they become available.

I feel much better today than I did at the beginning of the week. My blood sugar this morning was an easy to live with 107. What other plans life has for me today I don't know. I'm planning on mowing my parents yard this weekend but will probably do it before then as the weather is looking dicey again.

It's 67 and we just had about an hours worth of steady rain. Going to 77 today but bumping upward to 90 by Sunday. I was surprise no one here noted the passing of Kitty Wells, guess most of you are too young to have enjoyed her unique voice. No plans for today, had a nice chat last night as the thingy did arrive..S.J.

The weather yesterday got nasty.  The heavy rain, thunder, and a lot of lightening I spoke about were, unbeknownst to me, accompanied by tornado warnings.  Fortunately the latter did not materialize, though a couple of waterspouts were spotted out over the water.  One lightening strike took out power to one of the major TV stations in Boston right in the middle of the meteorologist's weather forecast!  Laugh  Streets became fast flowing streams in my and the neighboring towns.  Downed trees just to the west took out some cars and homes, and there were some house fires due to direct lightening hits.  Power losses too.

The way I was first alerted to the approaching severe weather (for my zip code) was my smartphone which I have hooked up with a weather app to warn me of such impending stuff.  They send you a text message.  But being from the older generation (I don't have my phone glued to my hand every waking moment ,my nose planted on the screen, and my my thumbs working furiously until carpal tunnel syndrome sets in),  I didn't bother to check it,

The first wave of storms had passed but was soon to be followed by a subsequent front moving in around 5PM-ish.  This one carried with it the threat of penny-sized hail. Bang Head  Because I have only two garage slots and three cars, one would have to sit this one out, exposed.

All I could think of was one of our cars becoming the victim of the hail.......which would be mine because my wife said "No way my car is going to get damaged!" Laugh  So I pulled out tarps (from pop-up canopy tents, some blankets, and free weights.  The idea was to roughly cover the sheet metal to blunt the blows of the hail should the need arise.  But being lazy  smart, I then watched the weather on TV closely.  Action not necessary as the hail passed about 10 miles to the South of me.

In the final analysis, we desperately needed the rain (another inch) and the fronts brought with them a temperature drop from the low 90s to mid 70s.

Gotta run and do an quick errand.  Later, ya'll.

Morning all.  Hot and humid.  High heat index today.  Good day to work in the Box.  Actually got to go to Town Hall and then back.  Probably "pull" out wiring upstairs and take to the Box.  Pull terminal blocks and the breaker box.  Get things started permanently under new layout.  Use some of the old wiring as it had long runs too.

Now as for Shake and Bake, got to take those "left bankers" with a "grain of salt".  Speaking of "left bankers", where is DougsNOTagrump?  Hope he is OK. ?????

Have a good day.
