Hi GUYZ,

   Up at 0500 and an easy day today.  Got my 2 mile run in and another 3 mile walk with dog and a 9 mile bike ride, and lifted too.  Gonna eat lunch then head up to see MOM today to bring her some beans and peas.  Nice social visit to see her and take her out for supper.

JACK, I don't need a porch ci cle coat for my MINNIE.  Where we run there is a stream, the one I fish for trout at, that is about 77 degrees and we both like jumping in that after we are done.  She fetches sticks, I tried but keep getting splinters in my gums.

Good Morning

Still around, pushing the engine through Knotts, everything seems to be going well.  Still have lots of drama going on with the "other" new person, but does not affect me.  Finger still in a splint, not serious but just an annoyance.

Darren, (Stourbridge Lion)  Sure like the picture you posted of #42, and the videos are fantastic!  I am looking forward to the opportunity to get up to see the museum!  I've heard so much about it, and really would like to see some of the area where the equipment I'm operating actually came from.  Also, I am a bit confused, I have been told that Knotts has 2 of the only 3 C-19's still in existence.  ( #41, and #340 at Knotts)  Sure looks like both #42 and #346  are also C-19's?  Did you meet anyone from Knotts during the Goose Fest?  (#3 has been sitting on a siding outside of the round house since it was repainted, such a disappointment it didn't get to go!  No one even talks about it.)

Can see lots of stuff going on with everyone, Ray's fence, Chief's layout, Dennis and all.  (I can't remember all the stuff either, sorry)

Chief inspired me with the bridges and hinges, as a result I've decided to hinge two curved lift out sections on my layout.  Ordered the hinges last Friday, should be here today.  Also been working on my G-Scale dogbone, got 90% of all the track soldered together, now just to finish them, and secure the track.  Time, Time always the problem.

Off today so going to get caught up with chores, then see what happens.  Hopefully will be able to invite "Bob" over for some train time.

Jeffery, Our Ins will not pay for Nexium anymore. They make you get the over the counter or pay full price for the Nexium. They have also done that with allegory pills. It is after all, all about them you know. 

 

How well I know. The bean counters figure they're the most important thing in your life and you should worship the ground they walk on. Nexium is expensive (that's why most insurance plans won't pay for it) but it seems to be the only one that works well for me. Prilosec makes me so sick even thinking about it makes me nauseous. Medicaid will pay for it (at least in Louisiana) but it has restrictions and Medicaid does have some serious shortcomings. But being as I can't afford other insurance I have to put up with it.

We got lucky and got a one inch downpour yesterday afternoon.  Temperature record (for a July 17) on tap for today, may hit 98 in spots locally.  Last night on the highway nearby, a gas tanker truck tangled with a car.  Tanker was carrying 10,000 gallons of fuel, overturned, and 8,000 gallons spilled.  The entire highway was shut down in both directions, and it took 5 hours to clear the wreckage, upright the truck, and get a handle on the wandering gasoline, a lot of which made it's way to the storm drains along the highway.  Work crews got traffic reopened before the morning commute.  How on earth do they get the gas out of the storm drains?   A match?   

Fife, BOC, and Chief......are you three trying to make the rest of us look bad with the weight loss discussions?  I may have teased Charlie about his family photo, but the fact of the matter is that he doesn't look pregnant.  I do.

Charlie......that family photo is one I'd get blown up, framed, and hung in a prominent place. Simply perfect.   Jeffrey and I are going to compete head-to-head for the "ugly mug" honors.

Fife.......you are approaching one of those good news/bad news milestones with the grandson.  Crawling is the good news.  Crawling is also the bad news.  Grandkids' mobility has its costs on Grampies.  Get the harness and the dog leash ready.  

Jeffrey.......glad to hear you got the prescription meds snafu ironed out and the prescriptions got filled. And kudos on your donation of your Buick Century radio to a new home where it will soldier on and benefit someone who really needs it.

SubmmBob and I had a good "catching up" chat yesterday.  He has been one super busy guy as of late, first with the USS Iowa restoration work he volunteered and more recently with his work in South Dakota with the less fortunate, a "minor" detail he neglected to mention.  He is far too modest and far too humble in my opinion, so I feel compelled to brag on him.   Way to go, Bob!!!!!!!

KEV.......was thinking of you yesterday as I got a thorough "conditions" update from my father-in-law just North of you.  Hottest and driest he can recall, and he is 91!!!!!

MikeC........an old guy like you better take it easy scrimmaging with the "yutes" as Joe Pesci called them in "My Cousin Vinny."

Chief......I can sense deprivation and desperation in the tone of your posts on your diet.

Dennis and you Southern boys.......V8 Dennis is right.  A whole house fan would not be my fan of choice for cooling down an attic if I had your consistently hot weather.  I'd go with a thermostatically-controlled attic fan like he uses to keep the attic temps down.  The whole house fan is great for introducing cooler air into the attic, but ya can't do it as he pointed out when the outdoor temps remain "up there" too late into the evening.  Also can't be used during the daytime hours in 90s+ heat of the day when the attic temperatures can top 140 while you are trying to keep the indoor temps comfortable with the A/C.

DougM......welcome back and congratulations on your Southern raid.  The Chief was completely caught by surprise, was probably reclinerizing too much, caught with his now-looser pants down.   BTW, how are the eyes doing?

Chuck and SJ..........my Boston Red Sox could surely use some victories from your Indians and Tigers over Tampa Bay and the Los Angeles Angels.  Wild card is our only hope for this season, and even that is looking grim.  At least DougM's White Sox received their comeuppance last night in Boston.  BTW, DougM.....Kevin Youkilis received a standing ovation from the Boston fans last night as he spoke volumes with his bat against his former team.  Boston fans miss him.  

Dennis.........I can't get RFD TV here.  What's with that?  Seems like a lot of stuff I would enjoy is on that channel.  Meanwhile, I have a zillion channels I never watch.  Son-in-law got really aggravated over the loss of the DirecTV channels he recently lost with DirecTV's price dispute with Viacom......at least he got aggravated when I infrmed him of what he lost.  The fact of the matter is,  he didn't even know he lost them until I told him. 

Ole Timer........if you encounter any wiring problems with your scooter, KEV can get you back up and "scooting."

LAZ........of the zillion mostly useless pet products out there for dogs, and the fact that you like to go running with Minnie, you may want to look into those "cooling coats" they have for pups.  You stick them in the freezer and then put them on the dog when higher temps become an issue.

Aloha. . Like Kev said, supposed to be a hot 'un in the city today. Looked for the TARDIS last eve, but didn't see anyone. It was nice and cool in the basement, clearing out some old luggage. Ran trains in the background whilst listening to the Sox lose to the Sox on the radio. Baseball sure is a game made for radio. Hope for a productive day.  I like that Gorre and Daphedid boxcar, Jeffrey. That would be cool to have in our gauge.

Good evening everyone.  Wow Jefferey, great G&D box car you have there.  Also, great story and generous in giving up that radio.  Pay it forward.  Just keep good care of yourself there.  Check with your MD, you may be able to get a generic substitute for your Nexium.

I read a neat story about someone who had dedicated her life to saving orphans who were in desperate need of medical intervention.  Through her efforts, 81 families were brought together with kids who would have otherwise died.  This lady died this weekend from cancer.  I know her legacy will live on through at least the lives of those 81 kids.  Sad that she is gone, but great that one person was able to save so many.

I did enjoy that N&W program today.  They also highlighted the Virginian.  Still have it on DVR, but it was nice to come home to and take my mind off the cares of the day.

Time for me to call it a night. Took my night meds and my 100 unit insulin shot and I'm feeling somewhat drowsy. I'll probably drop off while I'm watching 'The spy who loved me'. James Bond wouldn't last forty-eight hours in the real world but in the movies he wins every time. Anybody know how many times the Bond character was married? Technically three times but legally only once. The first on film (and in print) was to Kissy Suzuki. The marriage was a cover and therefore not valid. The second time was to Teresa "Tracy" Draco, and also known as the Contessa Teresa di Vicenzo). The third time was in print in the novel 'Scorpius' (1988) to Harriett Horner. Bond and Horner pretend to marry, only for her to die a couple days later when attempting to flee Scorpius' island.

Nothing much going on here - it's warming up again and we'll be over 100 tomorrow.  It was nice to have a week in the 90s.  Hard to believe it's the middle of July!

Lots of running around lately, but things are work are up in the air as usual lately.  We have training tomorrow on a certification test we have to take next week, even though we don't do the job!  That makes sense, right?

TARDIS is about ready and I'm sure SJ will love to drive - fasten your seatbelts!

This afternoon i managed to get together with some friends at the restaurant near here for a coffee and didst discover that there was a small problem with a car beside me..door access is somewhat cramped when buddy parks car about 9" from mine....had to find driver and ask him...politely ...to move his car so I  can access mine..got a big lecture from him on MY parking skills...find out after I left parking lot that he took my spot AND another to park....ooooch number 3....

Question...the jagged pieces of metal there..where they to prevent cattle from crossing at that area? They look awfully familiar....

Good evening all,

It is hot again in SE Indiana.  Dental appointments went well.  The tooth pain was a gap between crown and gum line that had developed.  They "painted" it and it is much better.  Cleared up some more stuff and found some more HO equipment to run.  Wife and I went to stockbroker and discussed some investment options.  Will experiment with a few.  Will literally use the biblical example of 10,5, and 2 to do some investing.  Right now the money is just sitting doing nothing and we know what happened to the servant who did nothing.  Got to scrimmage with some of "my" soccer girls tonight and will ref a "friendly" Saturday night under the lights between the current team and some alums.  Should be fun.  Back to work tomorrow.  TBIL and someone else can drive tonight as I have to drive to work.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Jeffrey, regarding Nexium, have you tried Prilosec?  It is available over the counter and is 20 mg tabs.  I used to take Nexium but got tired of paying the high prices.  Works for me.

Prilosec disagrees with me. The additional out of pocket cost doesn't agree with me either. $20 some dollars vs a $3 copay. That gives me $17 thereabouts to use on something else. That will still get some groceries.

I had a little mishap when I was leaving the docs office today. It could have easily been very serious but I didn't think much of it at the time as I had more important things to do. I went out and opened the drivers door of my van and stepped up onto the step  with my right foot as I normally do, grabbed the steering wheel in my right hand and the door armrest with the left and pulled myself up then put my left foot onto the step then lifted my right foot. At this point all my weight was on my left foot. I hadn't noticed it was on the edge of the step as I can feel only bone pain from the knees down and from the elbows down. Well my left foot slipped off the step and headed for the concrete. My right foot got a good purchase on the step but it was too late. Gravity was doing it's work. It's about sixteen inches from the step to the ground, maybe a little higher. My foot slammed down hard on the ground and I pushed myself backward to avoid hitting my knee against the step. It was very close. I felt a jolt of pain shoot through my ankle and I knew the bones had been effected in some way.The pain quickly faded and there was no bruising or popping. I just looked again and still no bruising so it looks like I got away with just a scare.

My good deed for the day. I pulled up at the pharmacy and saw a Buick Century, same color as mine was. The lady it belonged to and her daughter came out of the pharmacy at that time. I told them I had owned one almost identical to it and had sold it when it was sixteen years old due to repairs I couldn't afford to make. Well she said the radio in hers had gone out and she was looking for another one. Told her I'd be right back. I looked behind the passenger seat of my van and there was the factory radio from my Century. It was working fine when I took it out so there was no reason it shouldn't now. It was identical to the one she had. I handed it to her and she handed it back saying there was no way she could pay me for it. I handed it back to her and told her she didn't owe me a cent. It was hers. Well the look in her eyes and the big smile on her face said it all. At that point she was probably the happiest person in town.

I took my meds when I got home around noon and I'm a little dizzy right now. That's more or less normal after I've been off them for a while. Even a week can make a big difference. It'll take me a few days to get used to them again. I can already see a difference in my dexterity. Can't hold a screwdriver steady yet but it only moves a quarter of an inch instead of an inch and a half. I should be back to normal by this time Wednesday.Well that's all for now. That's enough.

Aw, Charlie looks all right. If there's an ugly mug around here mine's probably one of the ugliest you'll come across. I don't shatter mirrors but what does it mean when your reflection runs and hides?
