Sorry RT, woke up in time.  New Pot for all to drink.

HOT.  Not much Box work.  Got to redo end of peninsula to make tracks and switches of switching yard align with the end already estabilished [not screwed down but as I want it.  Actually go back to my original plan and make it longer.

Some storms poping up and hitting hard all around and up in VA.

Fife, glad you and the Pups are OK from last night.

See some bad stuff in Columbus OH.  Hope Buckeye is OK.  Haven't had time to readed the old Pot to see if he has posted.

NC Air National Guard and its C130's are in CO. to fight the fires.

Off to bed.

God bless and have a great month.

I got a little sleep but not much. Below is a photo of the paintball impact area after I cleaned as much as possible out of my hair and changed my shirt obviously. It was a very bright red paint. A partial bruise can be seen forming behind my eye. It hit between the eye and the ear just below my temple.

I have no idea who fired it, I didn't even see anyone.

Morn- okay...so you're telling me Wallyworld carries pink tutus in size 28...?  Tongue Tied  Mornin' boys.  Partly cloudy and 78 in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Learned we were lucky, as 900k lost power from storms.  Homes across street still have no juice.  Spent several hours picking up and bagging downed sticks.  Then when I wasn't looking, FifeMax spent several minutes tearing open the bags and scattering what I had done.  Then I spent several seconds disciplining the dog.  Now I'll spend several days hearing from Wifey about my technique...

Good Mornin' Ya'll From Crystal Clear Cape Ann Taxachusetts,

More of the same "heat forecast" for today from here......will hit 90+ again.  A/C is getting quite the workout.  Many further South down the East coast like Fife's neighbors were not so lucky with the weather yesterday, especially in HudsonJohn and Rich's NJ neck of the woods.  Some may be without power for the next few days during the heat wave, when they can ill afford it.

Brutus......  your plate is quite full with your Mom and Dad.  AngelYou have my prayers that the family can weather these new obstacles.  Be thankful you are close by to help out as best you can.  I wish I could say the same with my family.

BOC......hang in there, buddy.  Angel The advantage of your new slim and trim look is that your really don't have to buy any new clothes to have that "pants hanging off your butt" fashionable look that the rest of us are sporting. Whistling.  Add a backwards baseball cap and you are good to go. Smile, Wink & Grin  BTW......shave your head like Fife does. Laugh  Could tatoos be next?  Prayers for a complete recovery continue. Angel  I need to sign your cast too.

Jeffrey......an inch or two made the difference between hitting your eye or not.  Prayers you are doing OK.Angel

DougM.....I realize that an automotive A/C repair can get expensive.Bang Head  But it sure beats replacing the vehicle that is otherwise servicing you quite well.  I had to replace the compressor (worn bearings) and idler pully arm on my 1998 Olds Aurora but in the exchanhe got four more years/Summers out of the car before I traded it in with mileage over the century mark.. Sure beats car payments, especially if you like the vehicle and the exceptional utility and function it provides hauling the kiddies and stuff to and from college, or making those East Coast road trips!!!!

The wife and I spent yesterday at PSA protection trials in Westford MA.  The last handler/dog team on the field, two of the best in the nation, were very unlucky.....the pup suffered an injury and had to be carried off the field and driven to the emergency veterinarians.  And the poor guy is up here alone and a four hour drive from his home in the metro NYC area.  Sad ending to a wonderful day with wonderful people.  I hope he takes us up on our offer to help him get things squared away up here and then back home.

Gotta go feed the Maximus pup and let him out to chase the evil-evil bunnies in the yard.....his favorite hobby. Big Smile  Those suckers are bold!!!!!.

Aloha. Paradise. Sunny here again. We had more thunder overnight. No rain.  Parade today after church, party in the afternoon and then fireworks. After sitting in the sun all day yesterday, I may not last until dusk. Wink

I completely agree, Jack. I'm one of those who drive the wheels off a paid-off vehicle. Since I'm the only one who drives it  (ie the wife never gets behind the wheel anymore), I'm letting it go a bit.  Brutus, glad your dad is getting help. Prayers for your continued recovery, BoC. Going to Wal-Mart late at night is a surreal experience I try to avoid.

Good morning. It's 80° and partly cloudy. The high will be 95° with a 20% chance of rain. The expected heat index will be about 104°.

I thought about calling in a report on the paintball shooting yesterday but report what? All I remember is getting tagged. There was a dust cloud on the other road from where a vehicle had gone past apparently quite fast. I didn't see the vehicle, only heard it. Crunching gravel, loud pipes, loud music. That describes 90% of the vehicles out here, cars and trucks. I don't even have a color. There's a bunch of pine trees between the roads so unless you're looking more or less straight across you're not going to get a real good look. But I'm going to keep an ear tuned for those pipes. I don't care what type of vehicle you have, how big or small, what color, every vehicle has a unique sound. You can change the color and appearance but unless you change out the exhaust system and re-tune the engine that sound is going to be the same.

Going to mow the parents yard today IF the tractor doesn't decide to have a Murphy attack and the heat doesn't get to be too much too fast. That's a problem sometimes in this part of the country. Sometimes it heats up slowly and other times it's a bang-on full heat wave before 11 am.

Oh yeah, the headache is gone.

Well it's 88, feels like 103. I got the grass cut and got overheated in the process. Now I feel like crap not that I felt all that great earlier. I'm sitting back getting hydrated as best I can. Got the laundry done. The T-shirt I was wearing yesterday STILL has a big bright red stain on the left shoulder. It's latex paint, I could tell tell from the smell and it doesn't wash out. So there's a T-shirt that can be put in the tool box to be used as a cleaning cloth. That ticks me off so much! I'm on a very tight budget due a very small fixed income. Only a small part of that is for clothing. You try getting along on a hair under $700 a month. I do it but it ain't easy. I think I'll go crash now.

I let the Sheriffs Dept know what happened out here yesterday and put in a patrol request. Just maybe they'll catch the person, most likely not.

Well, we are back to normal after being out of elect power for 36 hours. Two days of sweating, no shave, etc. That won't happen again! I have contacted three installers of stand by generators. It will cost about $6500 but we earned it. At our age we have the money. Why leave it to the kids. They will get plenty as it is.

Any one have a stand by generator? I am considering a Generac Guardian 20,000 watt propane unit.

Pat,

We have a back up gen set but it is only 5000 watt. I got the gen for free it did not work. Come to find out it was low on oil and tripped the oil alert switch. I also installed a manual transfer switch that can take 7,000 watts or 30 amps in the basement that will carry 10 circuits. The 5,000 unit can not run them all at once but it will run the refrigerator, and some lights and the TV at the same time. If I swap out circuits we can keep the well pressure up and the water hot or furnace running. But this 5,000 unit will not run the AC. But I only have $250 in the whole job.

You need to figure out what you need to run and size from there. Your contractor should be able to advise. 20,000 watt sounds like it could do a lot to me.

I would like to have ours run it on LP but it is a gas unit It will run 9 hours on a tank.

I would love to have an auto start unit but this is a lot better than nothing.

Good afternoon everyone.  Today is a somber day for me.  This is the anniversary of a fire that killed five guys I worked with.  It was 24 years ago, but I can remember the events as if it were yesterday.  We did have a great morning service at church and a good Sunday School.  Tonight, our church sponsors an event called "Freedom Fest", it is out at the park that the church owns.  Plenty of great things to do, military demonstrations, etc., Then, tonight will be fireworks.  I cannot go as I am on call.  Can't take the chance that I would get stuck in traffic.

Did some work on the layout last night.  Have only a few things that will take about a day each to complete and then it will be done....for now.

Pat, that is the way to go, propane and a large enough unit to handle your needs.  Certainly, you want to be able to run trains! but if it lights some lights and keeps the refigerator cool, you will be good.  Just remember to test it out once a month.

Jefferey, glad you called the sheriff.  If they keep it up, they could cause an accident, or may graduate to more damaging firepower.  The more information the Sheriff has, the better their shot at getting him/them.  We had someone shooting drivers with a pellet gun.

Well, we have plenty of heat here, but at least we have AC.  May take the family out to a movie and just hope that I don't get called in.  The theater keeps it cool, so it might be a good event.

God Bless,
Dennis

Jeffrey, good grief!  Getting shot with a paint ball?  What the heck is going on.  Hope they catch the idiots who did it.  They will get their's sooner or later.   They will keep it up til they get caught.

Went to train meet today.  Lots of stuff for sale except the one thing I was looking for which was a plastic version of the Lionel girder bridge.  I'm using just the sides of them to make a bridge on my layout.  I got two from a prior sale for $5 each.  I saw one today and the guy wanted $9 so I passed.  No big urgency to get these.  I will find one sooner or later in a junk box.

Stayed a couple of hours at the meet and decided to go home.  Got some gas on the way for 3.59 per gal. down from a high of 4.25 a while back.

Planning on ground sirlion burgers with corn on the cob tonight from the grill.

later,

Ray

I am waiting for granny to get home from church so we can make banana splits. It's ok I had no supper. If it cools down I will sit on the porch if not, well here I am..Jeffrey calling the police was the right thing to do. Maybe they can catch these punks. ..S.J.

There were three paint balls. Only one hit me. The others caught the edge of the door and splashed my shirt and some of the upholstery and splattered on the door.

Good Evnin' Ya'll From Steamy Taxachusetts,

You have heard of husbands and wives fighting over the TV remote.  Well, I have a new Summer game.  I have been trying to keep the temperatures comfortable using the A/C but the wifey keeps turning the thermostat up! Bang Head  I find myself starting to sweat, check the thermostat, and sure enough she has changed the setting. Bang Head  Told her if she kept it up I would have to take off what few clothes I had on. SurpriseWhistling

Dennis........I can't imagine working so closely with fellow workers in a scenario where your life depends on them and theirs depends on you.....and then to lose them.  Angel

Jeffrey.......it saddens, disappoints, and angers me when people can be so purposely destructive and dangerous, call it good fun, and when caught blurt out something stupid like "I didn;t mean to hurt anyone."  I am just glad that you are OK. Thumbs Up

Pat, Buckeye, Kevin, and Chuck......sorry to hear you lost power.  There really isn't a good time to lose it.  But in the weather extremes it really puts you on the spot.  When he had small kids, a buddy of mine got fed a up with the outages like Pat.  He installed a backup generator that self starts with an outage, enough to power his heat/a/c, the refrigerators, and some lights.  He lives in Northbrook IL about 30 miles East of DougM, and the power company has been horribly slow handling power outages which are far too numerous in my estimation.

RaySP.....was glad to hear you have been daring and have gotten out and about, especially with the reunion.

The Olympic trials are on TV and are quite interesting.  I was enjoying them until the wifey just informed me that the July 4th festivities are here.  What a shock. Whistling

Later, gang.  Gotta go turn down the thermostat again. Laugh

Storm passed through R'ville.  Got about .25" of rain.  Wind damage in north part of Town and southern part of county north of us.  Nothing like Ohio.  Sure is bad.  Hope the storms hold off now for them.  Crews need to restore power.  Wasn't long ago they had a big ice storm and it worked on them.

Some Box work done.  Reworked the peninsula.  Added the module that had been attached to the main right side of layout to the end of the peninsula.  Made it longer and then track and switches lined up.  Lift bridge will be a curve but this is not a main lift bridge.

Got to call Shake and Bake.  Went to sleep two nights in a row before calling him.  He was at emergency room last I spoke with him.  He thought he jammed his finger.  Then Kaye thought it was broken as swolen and blue/black.

Later.

 RIJack,

Sorry about the misunderstanding. When I said me too it was about hearing about Buckeye and Chuck's power loss. We did not loose power or get any rain. We would love some rain but it seems to just go around. Better that than what others have been going through.

You guys have a good night.

Howdy guys - had a pretty quiet day.  It's too hot to do much, so just took it easy.  We did go to Mom and Dad's for dinner and visit with family from out of town.  We'll all meet again on Wednesday for dinner. Laundry and a chat with SJ and Charlie tonight rounded it all out.  TARDIS is ready and we have lemon, banilla, or butter pecan, so let's go!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good evening all,

Back from vacation.  Hmmm, not quite sure what to make of it.  Spent two days in Merrillville, IN and ate lunch there on the way back.  All three times huge storms came thru.  No damage to us, but made days interesting.  Thursday visited Fair Oaks Farms, which had various interesting tours and demos of dairy farming and operations.  Friday went to TalTree near Valpo, which is ostensibly and arboretum, but is also a very nice, large and detailed garden railroad display.  Alos did some antiquing.  Saturday went not as planned in Chicago as the "saucy wench" loved the American Girl store, but the line and traffic at the Art Institute was too massive to go there.  Went to Museum of Science and Industry.  Saw the HO layout,  Very nice.  Very impressive were the CB&Q Zephyr and U-505 displays.  Thought about some other places to go, but decided to take a scenic route back on US 231.  All was fine until the Boliermakers messed us up in Lafayette with road construction.  Eventually got back home.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Sunny and cold today - only got up to 98!

Dropped by the LHS yesterday.  Picked up a copy of the 2012 Lionel Christmas Catalog.  Didn't see any 'gotta haves' on first pass through.

Got hung up at work Friday night when an e-bay auction for a Lionmaster SD90 in CP livery that I wanted to try to snipe ended.  Bummer.  However, I checked e-bay when I finally got home and discovered another one listed that had a buy now price less than the last bin on the previous one I missed.  I grabbed it.

Just putzed around this weekend.  One project was hanging a hose rack on the side of the house.  No problem - drill two holes, set two masonary anchor bolts and tighten thisngs up - right?  Nope!  The job started OK.  I measured the anchor bolts at 3/8" and picked up a 3/8" masonary bit at the hardware store when I was out and about.  Late afternoon, when it got back down to 100, I collected my tools and drilled the first hole.  The anchor bolt turned out to be a press fit into the 3/8" hole - not how you want to work with masonary.  Back to the hardware store for a 7/16" drill.  Enlarge the first hole, measure and drill the second hole.  Now the hose rack bolts up.  Next I go get the hose that is going to hang on the hose rack - the brass female fitting is crushed oval.  A quick search through the junk drawer turns up a female repair end for a 5/8" hose, but the hose in question is a 1/2" hose.  Dang!  Back to the hardware store a third time for a repair end.......

All for now.
