Good morning. It's already 84° with a heat index of 93° and it's not even 10:00 am! The high will be 95° but will feel like 110°. Probably be able to cook burritos on the sidewalk today. There's a small chance of rain.

Woke up early this morning in the middle of a sugar crash. Blood sugar level was 54. I enjoyed a bowl of chicken flavored Ramon noodles while watching a video about Tony Lash's MTH Hi-Rail layout. Only two reasons I didn't go to O-Scale were space and money. I don't have much of either one. Blood sugar is still low but is a more manageable 70. I'm working on that. Concentration is out the window as my attention span is about thirty seconds. Got a train running right now led by the GP38/SD27J/8-40B. May do some layout work today. The day is young yet. Got my electric bill yesterday. There's probably going to be some envious remarks and a few thuds from bodies hitting the floor. It's a whopping $25! I'll take an electric bill like that anytime.

It's a muggy 73 with much needed rain in the area but since early morning we have only gotten 10 minutes worth so far. A nice chat with some of the guys last night. And a trip to Kroger this morning has been completed...S.J.

Morning.  Hot and humid.  More Box work and errands.  Fred not here today.  Slept like a log.  Watched the NW DVR'd video.  Also the Predator Quest one.  Seems everyone is doing "pretty good".  Always remembering Blown.

Doug M, need anymore?  Might have some straights.

Have a good one.

Aloha. Funny how 82 seems so cool. Nice if too brief 'ride' on the TARDIS last night. Had to go off and find our old dog who wandered away from the house when I let him out last night. Didn't want him to meet Wile E. Coyote.  Jack, it sure is neat to 'see' without glasses, even though I need the least-power readers and will eventually get another thin pair. I haven't been without the 'coke bottles' since I was 4.

Congrats to Buckeye on his new high-falutin' job (I saw it on LinkedIn)

Downloaded 'Noisy Typer' on my Mac this morning - so it now sounds like a typewriter, complete with carriage return 'ding'.  Yes  Of course, I have to explain this to the younger staff.

Chief, just reflecting on your generosity last night -  he sent me a load of 027 track when i was starting my layout years ago. Still use it. Smile

Jim, great to 'see' you again. Prayers for your bride's swift recovery.

Good Evening all!

It has been a LONG time since I visited the pot.  I've missed you guys!

I just got a new to me laptop from youngest daughter so I'm connected at home now.

The bedroom addition we started last September is all done except for some trim in the hall.  It turned out real nice and my bride loves it.

So much going on.  We still have the grandkids and they are a blessing.  Felicity the oldest twin got second place in sewing competation at 4H.  She did great and I am so proud of her.  Her brother Gabriel will be competing in Safe use of Guns Thursday and that should be interesting.

My bride had foot surgery last week and will be in a non-weight bearing cast for 6 weeks.

The great news is that with our new bedroom, we seperated the girls from Gabriel who is in the old train room, and with the girls out we have room for a small layout.  We put up my old test track 4x6, but it is a layout and the kids have been running trains again.

Good night and may God bless

Jim

Real high 90's today.  Glad I'm not one of the BMW motor cycle riders that are camping out at the fair grounds for a rallye this weekend.

Charlie - about the only place we've ever gotten to in that part of the state was the Lake of the Clouds.

I knocked my Cab 2 controller on the floor a few days ago.  When I went to use it last night it was kaput!  The red light in the middle flashed, the screen lit up, then went all black, then shut off all together.  Since it is out of warranty, I think I'll open the back up and look for loose connections or components.  I suspect I'll have to send it off for service, though Grumpy.

All for now.

Evening all.  Busy day.  Early breakfast meeting with Wake Med [massive hospital here].  Had already eaten my yogart and had my coffee.  So I had unsweeten tea.  Then I got to the Box and Fred and I built the last three bridges.  Had to run an errand to deliver my friend the Raleigh Mayor some of my big tomatoes.  Back to Town Hall and then to a street improvement site.  Home to dinner [missed lunch except two hand fulls of almonds].  Reclinerized while Wifey couched.  Now in the Box.  Probably call it a night.

Dennis, started the RFD-TV Trains and Locomotives thingy on NW.  Had to stop to go to breakfast meeting.

Rich, think you wil have no "problem" with the Princess.  She has a great example in her Dad andd I'm sure she will want Dad pleased.

Shake and Bake is too tired to post as he shovels coal all day [actually turns an oil valve]. Whistling

Off to the house.  Tomorrow, solder jumpers to bridge track and screw down permanently.  Run some wiring to do some conventional running to test track.  Then the big move of transformers and controllers to the Box.  Last of the wiring is the switches.  Lots of them and lots of wiring.

Sleep tight.

PS: Kev, give me time to box them up.

(1).........Kev, fence materials will be delivered tomorrow.  Have meeting scheduled with neighbor tomorrow morning to try and get to the bottom line.  Pointed out some issues today that I want resolved and he was agreeable.

(1).....I did pick up an extra fuel tank for the grill this week on sale at Home Depot.  This one even has a built in gauge.  Now I can get more propane before I run out.  I just need to find a safe place to put the extra tank.

Root canal complete but need to get crown on it.  Next appointment in two weeks with my regular dentist.  He told me I could hold off for a month or more but specialist says I should get it ASAP.

Went out to get the wifey ice cream and it was still 92 outside following a local high of 95 this afternoon.  Not SJ weather or KEV weather, but plenty hot.

Yup, I got banilla, made at a local dairy: Richardsons.  I like it better than the premium ice creams and so does the wife.  Then I remembered to get a large bottle of Hershey's chocolate syrup to supplement the sprinkes we had at home. Thumbs Up.  Got the syrup with the added calcium because I am so health conscious. Whistling

Wifey immediately noticed because she has been on top of her calcium, Vitamin D, and bone density for over a decade. She was duly impressed with my choice of chocolate syrups. Surprise  I look down at my belly and am now certain my bones with all of this calcium intake will be strong enough to support it. Smile, Wink & Grin

Later, gang.

Good evening.  Long day, but not bad.  Waiting on word regarding the visas and our travel approval.  I have had some interesting conversations with some of the guys from other disciplines about insurance, etc.  in many cases, you can negotiate better prices for medical service to include dental than even the cost of co-pays.  I believe this ability is not going to be permitted under the new health care laws.

V8, Jack, thanks, I agree it would be better to have a temperature controlled attic fan.  We have large vents at the gables, but I may go for one of the solar ones that you cut between the beams.  We shall see.  Regardless, it won't be happening until after the temps cool.

Rich, yeah, better to take the high road, your daughter will notice.  You want to be the type of guy you would like for her to look for when it is time for her to choose a husband.  Be a great example.  I wish you well.

Have a good night,

Dennis

Good morning all,

...... Back to the root canal dentist today for permanent filling and I hope the last visit with him.  My regular dentist wants to put on a crown later.  I have no dental insurance so ouch!

V8 Dennis, sorry about the tooth.  I just had a root canal on one of my lower incisors which will be weakened now being hallow I suppose.  They want to put a crown on it later.  Total cost for both procedures is around $2000.  I should have been a dentist.  Better than a license to steal.  My old dentist tells the story about how a patient told him, "when I started coming to you I had all my teeth and was driving a Mercedes.  Now I have no teeth, driving a Ford and you are driving a Mercedes."

later,

Ray

Ray and V8.....I cant see any way around this stuff.  Every decision is expensive and every alternative is expensive as well.  We are trapped.

Dental insurance for some strange reason is totally focused on just a routine visit with xrays and a couple of cleanings a year, maybe a filling ot two.  Most plans have an orthodontia annual cap from $1,000- $1,500 which in reality doesn't cover anywhere near what this work costs.  While the monthly premiums are low (through an employer-based plan) the whole thing seems to be geared toward those who have little or no problems with their teeth......the young.  That leaves us older folks in an expensive bind, writing huge checks.

It's not like we are opening beer bottles with our teeth or are losing teeth in fistfights.  Bang Head Why is there no decent affordable dental insurance for the masses who are our age?

I am going to start looking into whether there are plans out there for us seasoned citizens.

100 Degrees again. Seems endless. I think your FIL is right Jack. They are now saying worse since 1962, it has beaten out 1988 already. Your FIL and DougM have got more rain up there than we have had here. Some of the farmers are already tilling some of the crops under.

Doing some bills this afternoon. Sad

I put water out today for the deer. I saw a Doe and twin fawns by the shed and they looked thirsty. I don’t know if they will drink but I set the water down in the first ravine where they like to hang out.

D Baker, Sounds like you have plenty going on and best of all it sounds like fun.

V8 Dennis and SP Ray, Best of luck with the teeth issues, I have ins but it is very limited like only $1,100 a year tops. So I try to do maintenance and stretch out the work if I can.

BTW Ray, How is the fence project going? Huh?

Well I fixed the switch on the layout and now just trying to stay cool. Going in and out of this hot weather plays poorly on my digestive system. We have been eating light but tonight we are going to have Brats, sweet corn, and fresh green beans from the neighbor’s garden that he brought over today. Hope I will not have to pay for the eats tomorrow. Ick!

Chief, I have it boxed up and ready to ship.

Darren, (Stourbridge Lion)  Sure like the picture you posted of #42, and the videos are fantastic!  I am looking forward to the opportunity to get up to see the museum!  I've heard so much about it, and really would like to see some of the area where the equipment I'm operating actually came from.  Also, I am a bit confused, I have been told that Knotts has 2 of the only 3 C-19's still in existence.  ( #41, and #340 at Knotts)  Sure looks like both #42 and #346  are also C-19's?  Did you meet anyone from Knotts during the Goose Fest?  (#3 has been sitting on a siding outside of the round house since it was repainted, such a disappointment it didn't get to go!  No one even talks about it.)

Glad you are enjoying my RRAdventures Photos and Videos as I enjoy sharing them with folks

I'm not aware of anyone I talked to during Goose Fest 2012 being from Knott's but that's not to say nobody from there wasn't at the event.  It was a shame RGS#3 didn't make it to the event but who knows maybe another year we will see them all together for the first time.  It's the only one now I have not had a Cab Ride in.  Would sure love to get some video of in from inside and out while it's operational and before California makes too many more alterations to it to fit CA Laws.  Still, I would rather have an altered RGS#3 then none at all...

I believe RGS#42 is a C-17...

Yeah, I had a great reply that had to do with dating and sex......but since we are more "family oriented" forum, I'll leave it you all's imagination.....Laugh.  Trust me, in the long haul, I'll be a the better person and have no regrets.

Work is progressing on the roadrunner.  I'll be replacing all the wheel cylinders and the master cylinder first.  Then on to the trans, shifter and drive shaft.  Need this done by mid August.

OK Back to the grind.  I'll check back when and if we slow up.

Good morning all,

Jeffrey, sorry you can't use Prilosec.  I am on medicare part D for prescriptions so I have to hold the cost down as much as I can to stay out of the dreaded "donut hole".  I have one or two very expensive meds I have to take and that puts me right up there.

D. Baker, what kind of hinges are you going to use for your lift outs?  Will they be like mine or like the ones the Chief is doing?  Sorry to hear about your "other person" issues but glad it doesn't affect you.  I will have to talk to you privately some time about my fence problems.  I could have benefited from some good advice before I started all this with the neighbor but now I'm committed so hind sight is 20/20.

Chief, good luck on the diet.  I need to diet too.

Back to the root canal dentist today for permanent filling and I hope the last visit with him.  My regular dentist wants to put on a crown later.  I have no dental insurance so ouch!
