Chief and Colin, I know that you both have spoken well of the movie "Shooter".  I have a DVD of it, but unfortunately, have not been able to watch it due to the presence of young crumb snatchers.  I had read a book back in the mid 90s called "Point of Impact" by Stephen Hunter.  It was a excellent book and was originally going to be made a movie with Robert Redford as the lead.  It was based on a Vietnam era sniper.  Having read up on it tonight, it turns out that "Shooter" is the movie that was based after the book, only now it is a sniper from the 90s.  If you get the chance, read "Point of Impact"...a good read.

Prayers for Barry.

Went in the basement today at noon and hooked up TPC and TMCC equipment.  Took a little while, because I had to find some wire - as a temporary measure, I just used some 12 gauge house wire.  I might use that anyway, since I have plenty, LOL.  Well, went to fire the dang thing up and we were totally out of AA batteries!  Called wife at grocery store and told her to pick some up.  Then I spent the day doing stuff around the house until nearly dinner time, when son and I had to hit Lowes for a new trimmer for him (he's going to earn some extra money by trimming just around the front and sides of the house, so got a recharger/battery trimmer).  We went out to eat at Crackerbarrell, and then I finally got a chance to run my trains!  The MTH train runs pretty well with the TPC.  I can operate the coupler, horn, bell, some sounds, and direction etc.  It sure does run nice.  Thomas, on the other hand, will only go one direction with the TPC.  I put him back on a little circle with just a regular CW80 and he changes direction fine.  Back on the TPC controlled track and he only goes forward again.  So, it must be something about Thomas - maybe the E-Unit or something?  Now, when I put him on the track backwards with the TPC he would only run backwards.  Maybe he wants one side to be connected to the other, but I thought that fastrack did that?  My bigger loop with the TPC/TMCC setup is fastrack.  Smaller loop is O27.  Any ideas?   I was going to run the HWX next, but the realized it was 8:30 and needed to quit so we could get the kids ready for school and bed.

Headed to Sir James' house to see if he is up, will pick up others if you turn on your porch lights.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Just saw the following post on OGR by Jim Barett, thought it should be brought here as well.

WONDERFUL NEWS! 6:50 PM Sunday

Barry's wonderful wife Cora just called me today (Sunday 6:45 PM) and informed me that Barry is indeed awake, groggy, and starting to come out from under the massive sedative that was administered when he was first rushed to the emergency room Friday afternoon.

He is responding to questions and carrying on a limited conversation with her, asked questions about what happened, and appears that he is beginning a good slow recovery! Cora said that the doctors indicated that a good thirty days or more will be needed to gain a more complete recovery! Cora was very optimistic, saying that this was indeed a great day compared to the previous ones!

Barry appears to have NOT suffered a heart attack as had been feared by many, but instead had suffered a heart arrhythmia that had indeed stopped his heart. However, due to the absolute wonderful response time by EMTs at the TCA YORK meet his heart was shocked back into action within three to three and one half minutes of his collapse. This immediate and wonderful response time by the door guards at the Orange Hall and the EMTs is what saved his life.

After initially rushing to the hospital to learn as much as I could and then notifying his wife, Kathie and I returned to the Orange Hall where I looked up every last person who treated him in order to fill in the doctors at the hospital and also Barry's wife Cora. Kathie and I met Cora at BWI airport and brought her up to the hospital.

The incident happened inside the entrance to the Orange Hall near the Men's Room. When Barry collapsed, an unidentified woman saw what happened, and instantly yelled to the lady who was the door guard at the main entrance to the hall. She immediately radioed the EMTs who luckily were stationed only about 100 yards away from the Orange Hall entrance doors. They responded instantly and administered emergency care within three minutes of the initial collapse.

The EMT that administered care to Barry told me that the elapsed time from the actual incident to the time his heart was restarted was the difference between Barry's current condition and two other unfortunate occurrences over the years he has been on duty at the TCA meet who did NOT fare as well.

For all those who prayed and all those who cared, speaking on behalf of Barry and his family as well as his OGR family, your prayers have apparently been answered.

As I learn more pertinent information on Barry’s condition, I will post it to this thread

Thanks Don for the update on Barry.  Been wating for such.

Had to go to Lowes for bird feed and get some keys cut.  Seems Roseyville ACE is going out of business.  Owner of shopping center pulled the lease from under them at renewal time.  Has another client.  Gooood  As over the last few years you ended up going to Lowes anyway as ACE would be out of stock [what happened today for me and keys, they did not have any regular Master blanks].   Hope to find out who the client is going to be by tomorrow PM.

Got home an sun was out.  Planted 75% of the garden.  Planted 20 squash, 7 zucchini, 12 cucumber and 18 [about half total] tomato plants.  Already have cabbage and oinions growing.  Then storms came through.  We missed all the bad stuff but had a good hard [not beating] rain for three hours.  I was tired and took a snooze.  Then watched the Tutors.  Went to email and there were these "pewky" orange bridge pictues in one. Shock [:O]

Full day tomorrow.  Meeting at 9 AM in Roseyville, 2 PM County Commissioners [new school land buy final apporval, EMS merger first approval] and then Mayor's Association dinner and meeting at 6:15.  No jeans and V neck shirt tomorrow. Sigh [sigh]

Good night all.

Good news on Barry, really fortunate in the rapid response by EMT's.

Brutus, Make sure that the "minimum power settin" on the TPC is at 0. Also try to vary the length of time that you hold the reverse button down on the cab-1. Some E-units, even within the same product line, will have a slower response time than others. Hope this helps.

Kinda bummed tonite, someone sniped me on something that I was bidding on for my little train buddy. I'm sure another will be along some time or another.

Spent some time working on my Lionel FT's, found two errors on one of the units, one for me and one for them. It's running much better now. The other one I can't find  the cause of the problem, when powered up and idling the headlight is nice and bright but when power is increased the headlight dims as it starts to move. Maybe a motor going bad, but it runs fine ? Any ideas ?

Good news on Barry - thank God those EMT's were so close!

Thanks for the info, Doug-d-g.  I don't know about your FT, sorry.  It sounds like there is a power draw on the same circuit as the engine, which would include track, right?  So, if the motor is going bad, like you think, that would dim the light?  Do other lights (coaches, other loco) dim as well?

I was running the MTH first and was playing with all the combination buttons, so I might have set something wrong for a regular conventional engine.  Sir Topham and the Boys were riding in the newly added S. C. Ruffey car and had a fun ride for a few seconds!

Actually, I'm not sure how much power I'm feeding to the TPC.  I have it powered from a Z-1000 set to full throttle, which should be plenty of power though.  Later, I hit some combo that is supposed to reset the TPC to defaults.  It still reacted to TR 1 and acted fine, so I guess it doesn't lose that.  I'll try running Thomas first next time and see how it works.  I assume the MTH loco is supposed to be run in "conventional" mode on this setup, not command, right?

Bedtime, full of banilla, so TTFN Smile [:)]

Brutus,

Correct on the conventional ops for basic engines as well as PS1 & Ps2. For the PS1 & PS2 engines you use the aux-1 + 9 , start-up sounds, 8. The Z1000 is what I am using for one of my loops for the munchkins Thomas & Friends loops, the other two have the CW80's. I specifically used the Z1000 for one so me & munchkin can also run the 4-6-0 when Thomas or Percy need a rest. Big Smile [:D]

Morning!

Good news on Barry!  Sounds like the York organizers have a well thought out plan keeping the EMT's on site.  I don't know him, but he's in my prayers.

German Chocolate Cake and Banilla! For all you early risers.

Ended up buying a few items last night online...Didn't snipe any...Picked my price, and walked away...Didn't expect to win any.  Ended up with an elevated trestle set, lighted bumper, and a MNS boxcar.

In-Laws returning home today.

Doug:  Can't wait to see your GP-15 review.

Brutus:  Hope you get Thomas figured out.  I will have to pick your brain on the TPC.

Morning Boys,

Thought I'd drop in for a fresh cup and chat for a spell. Had a great time at York.  Didn't spend a ton of money but did pick up a modern reproduction of the Burro Crane.  It is pretty finicky to run just like an original.  Seeing Brent's layout got me motivated so I went out and started to clean up the layout a little and ran trains twice yesterday. Ran the WM BEEP and  K-Line WM Porter with Ore cars on the upper level.  I ran the WM # 103 4-4-2 with a string of freight cars and gondolas and the smoking caboose.  Also ran the MOW Ballast Tamper.  Saturday I ran the WM BL2 for a while.  No major pileups but a minor derailment or two caused by the engineer exceeding posted speed limits.

School is coming along well. Originally today was substantial completion date, but it has been pushed back until May 9th.  Lots of little jobs they need to complete and some problems with casework and furniture being delivered that does not meet specs. Our specs clearly state no particle board.  Everything is supposed to be plywood veneered with red oak. The one supplier tried to slip tables, counter tops and a circulation desk for the library by with particle board. Of course that puts things behind schedule.  Classrooms are mostly complete.

Take care,

Mitch

Mornin' Fellas.

A bit run down today and not sure why. After working on the layout yesterday morning and FINALLY running some trains on it, Susie-Q and I headed to Target and the grocery store. Then off to FiL's for dinner. Made meatloaf and Mac&Cheese, good eatin' there! Dinner [dinner] Then had to take Susie-Q's Bimmer to a friend's place to have the Service Engine Soon light scanned. Turns out she needs 2 O2 sensors, so have to find them and get sparkplugs to do a tuneup. Then it was back to FiL's for Strawberry Shortcake, then home so Susie-Q could watch her weekly Cops marathon on Tru.

So I'm having a bit of a problem figuring out why I'm so sleepy. Confused [%-)]Zzz [zzz]

Great news about Barry!

Haven't seen Sniper. I picked up Beowulf and There Will Be Blood at Best Buy last week. Started watching Beowulf yesterday, so far it is OK - the animation is a bit poor.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 46 degrees. Going up to a sunny 76 degrees. Nice.

Today is a busy day. I have a few errands to run this morning and then I will be mowing grass again. Looks like today and tomorrow will be nice. Need to keep the grass in order. Rain due later in the week. No train time today. Spent about 2 hours running trains, yesterday. Did some cleaning up.

Dining car has rolled in and is serving breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Monday.

Good morning all from cool (45°F) sunny Southern Ohio,

Spent some time catching up on the pot.  The bride and I were presenting a marriage enrichment over the weekend in Columbus and I was away from internet access over the weekend so was out of touch.

Thanks be to God for Barry!  God often works miracles through regular people.  Get word to him I will continue to pray for a complete recovery.  I am at work so need to go.

May God bless

GOOD MORNING

Brutus- I agree with the others, power is not going to zero so eunit will not change from whatever position it is in. try adding a lited car like a caboose with thomas that may help and as noted hold the direction button a few seconds.

We have overcast and 50s going to 70s,sounds good. Chief our  local Aco store has raised their prices to the point that I am forced to go to the big stores.I always liked a store were you could get in and out without a two mile walk.But.

Enjoy your monday,,,,,,,S.J.

Morning all. Beautiful day here, sunny and a little cool. Moved all the plants outside even though I might have to move 'em back in this weekend for a final frost warning. Cheif, your garden sounds wonderful. I just hope to grow grass without too many weeds.  I echo the good wishes for Barry. I'll be curious about how you get Thomas to run, Brutus. Keep us posted. Too bad about your Ace stores, Sir James and Chief. It's the only place I go around here - clean, organized, helpful, have everything, and not-so-huge... I have a discount card too.  Have to start musing about what I want to buy myself for my birthday next month... Came in late today and leave early.  I'll take it as all too often it seems I live here.  Got a big case in the morning, so I'll need my rest.  Glad to hear the good news on Barry.

I have been investigating some options regarding switching some engines to TMCC.  I have a Proto 1 Hudson and several Lionel, Williams, K-Line, and others that may be upgraded.  I just have to weight the options as I would like a few of these to be upgraded to Legacy if that would be possible in the not too distant future.

I was watching a Backshop video this morning, reminds me that I have plenty of Postwar engines and rolling stock that need some work.  I purchased some tupperware bins that are about the size of a large shoe box.  I figure to put one project in it and work on it till it's done.
Well, have to run, but I hope everyone has a great day.

God Bless,

Dennis

Cool article, that would be neat to have in the garden alright.  Forum seems to have been quiet today?  I'll try reprogramming the TPC to zero out the power and check Thomas again - might be tonight, but right now I'm beat from work.  Thanks for the advice and emails guys.  Right now, I'm watching Son of Godzilla with my daughter - it's one of our bonding things Thumbs Up [tup]  Great movies and Great Company.  I think I'll have another diet rootbeer (Barqs) too!  I'll be back....

High everyone. Great news for me, I just got my first car. It's a white 1992 Mustang with a four banger and an automatic. I didn't mean to be rude interupt any conversations, and this was fresh on my mind so I just jumped in. I'm a big Mustang fan and I would never thought it would happen to me, but evidently I was lucky enough to be blessed from the heavons above. Oh, I call it "Casper" by the way.  It has a few dents hear and there, but nothing major. It has a dark red interior that is in very good shape. Its paint is faded on the bumpers, and I guess when someone painted the hood they didn't do a good job of masking the headlight lenses so there was a heavy overspray of white and black (don't know how black got there) paint all over them. I took some mothers mag and aluminum polish and buffed the crap out of those lenses and I eventually removed most if not all of the paint from them. I'll bet the headlights shine better now. About those live steam engines, I saw a video on youtube that showed how to start one up. It was a shay steam locomotive I think. The fire was actually just behind the smoke box of the little steamer.

Give me steam locomotives or give me DEATH!

Wow.  Home finally.  Nice 14oz NY Strip steak followed by a slice of key line pie and a big cup of coffee.  Ate too much.  Well, we did it.  First town in Wake Co to help buy school property.  Big news.  Hope slower day tomorrow.  Town Board tomorrow night but going to try to avoid everything else.  Suppose to be cloudy and 60 [chilly for us now] and spit rain.  Time to hit the recliner and rest.  God bless.

Out for dinner at Olive Garden as Bride made it home early.

German Chocolate Cake and Cheesecake still around, along with Banilla and mint Chocolate Chip.

Evening All !  Smelled the fresh pot of coffee and couldn't resist!   Thanks Brutus !

We actually survived the week-end, it was drudgery, but did rather well, it was worth it!  We normally participate in a computer show once a month at the LA County Fair Grounds.  It use to be a very big show, but the web has cut into the attendees significantly.  (Show admittance and parking cost has chased people away.)  This past weekend was a lot of other events going on.  Including a RC Expo.  (Interesting that it was all airplanes, cars, and tanks.  NO TRAINS, Guess they don't realize that trains are RC also.)  But, it sure drew out the crowd.  Directly outside the building our booth was in, there was a RC race track setup.  Wow !  Did those cars scream, it was just a blurr watching them go by!

Had Dr visit today, ultrasound on the neck to see if any blockages, and chest x-ray, check up purposes only, or maybe just age related.

Going to play around in the train room tonight, see if I can't install the DCS 4.0 patch.  Then Chris and I are going to go down to the club on Wed..  Need to plan our next Operations Session.  Think will do the same thing as last time, but require the freight trains to drop off a consist and pick up a new one.  Of course the cars will all have to be rearranged in the process. Also, going to see about taking a small camera down and running in a car and broadcast the activity on a TV , while everything is going on.

So till later have a good evening.
