Brent, praying for your bride too.

Mike C., the revamped resort in French Lick looks stunning - there was an article in the paper last week about it.

RT, could you rent a place or stay with someone while you try to sell the other place?

Good Afternoon All:

A gorgeous day in Chicagoland.  While I didn't opt for a Toga, I am in shorts and a polo today.  It was brought to my attention today that my 4 1/2 y.o. son has developed an affinity for The Beatles.  So, as I write this I have Abbey Road playing while my son is dancing.  Smile [:)]  This would qualify as the first good day I have had in almost two months.

RT:  Good luck.  I hope this works out.  You have spend a lot of time and energy on this opportunity.

Brent:  I hope Susie-Q is okay.  Keep us posted.

Chief:  I am glad to hear that you are feeling better.  Get that Deere working!

Six weeks ago I was planning on being in York today.  I am bummed that I am at home. Sad [:(]  I hope everyone has a good time.  Please keep us informed.

Regards,

John

Ok.  I'm being sincere for just a moment here.  Normally, we whoop-n-hollar about attending YORK.  But this time around, some of us are on our backs (physically and metaphorically).  I myself have been kinda keeping muted about going, considering some of YUZ GIZ's feelings.  So, a little feedback from those that are not as "lucky"...

Where it is I could probally get $300.00 to $350.00 max a month and then have to pay $145.00 a month lot rent occupied or not and then what ever the rental agencey would want wouldn't be worth it. I've had a couple of want to rent to own but there your usually looking for trouble also.

For me to rent a place down there the best I can find is around $600.00 a month not cheap there you have U of SC there so guess what drives the rentals up lol.

I have to admit, as most of you know I attended last year.  And it was the BEST three days I can recall.  (omitting births, marriages, that kinda stuff).  Now what made it so good for me was being totally overwhelmed by all the stuff, and so much of it, but also seeing and talking to people I feel I know very well and had never seen.  I was like a "bobble head" walking thru the place, given the items, and then running into people that I knew at the same time.  WoW...    I guarantee you one thing we are NOT being missed.

Also, gives me something to look forward to for a future date.  And I am glad I don't live near there, then it wouldn't have the special significance.

But most important of ALL....  You don't have to spend a ton of money, go to shows, and make a lot of investment, to have the great friends we have around here.  And though some of us are down "right now", we have all been there, and will be there for each other.  And that is the greatest benefit.

RT - maybe ask at the hospital there and see if the employees know of someplace you could stay for a couple weeks or so to get settled?  Hang in there, man.  Seriously, if they sent out prints to be checked, I think that is pretty great evidence that you will be working there if you can hold on...

Sir James - secret papers arrived, looks good Will apply Turnip Transmogrifier ASAP and put you know where.

Just spent about 2 hours trying to tighten a bolt on a faucet Every time I tried to turn it, my wife would let go of the faucet. Finally, I just undid the whole thing and threaded it once away from the sink to see what was going wrong. The first 2 threads were crossed, of course Cut the heck out of my arm, but I got it threaded past that under the sink and then got my socket on it - much better. Then, I went to connect the bendy hose things and they are about 10 inches too long. Don't want an extra foot of "hose" on each side, so I'll have to pick up short ones tomorrow I guess. Really just wanted to be done. Have to be careful, because the copper supply lines on the actual faucet want to bend - don't want any leaks!

Oh, when the guy installed our dishwasher, he used some of this flexible steel tubing (the mesh stuff), like I just bought, but he had way too long of a piece. He wrapped it around and cabled tied it to one of the copper pipes. Since they are not both copper, is that safe? Is it going to corrode the copper faster?

Good Evening to All

We had a perfect day,74 and 77 tomorrow.  It felt so good I drove with the truck window open and left the a/c off. As I was telling you last nite,I spent a good deal of the day helping at the train store. Resisted some big $$$ items but bought one of the Nascar blowout add ons.It had a Evans type auto carrier in it.I'll just sell off the other two cars in the fall. It sounds like most are healing and its good to hear that so stay on the mend.get ready for summer.,,,,S.J.

I had always thought different metals touching like that could be problematic. May want to give the local hardware store a call.

I love doing this kind of plumbingSmile [:)]......not! But when I've had to I always try to plan it out to make it easy as possible. Still I wind up with troubles like yours. Wrench won't access the space among other things. Yup, we fight the good fight. Best to you Brutus.

Thanks Cooltech, yeah - that's what I always thought about the metals - I'll move that tomorrow as well, just to be safe.  Bleeding finally stopped, so I guess the job is done for today Laugh [(-D]

Sir James, sounds like a great day to me.  Too tired to do more work tonight, will get to project tomorrow, okay?  Got any Banilla, or too tired on your end too?

Evening all.  Over did it this afernoon but it is done.  Serviced JD, replaced blades and mowed all the grass.  Good Lord is looking after me.  Willie [snaggled toothed long hair bearded guy] has moved into the apt over the "Rock House" [two doors down] where I had been maintaining widow's [lives downstairs] yard.  Willie is basically not able to keep a regular job [age and health].  He loves working outside.  He is going to do the whole yard thing there.  That means I do not have to do it. Bow [bow]   Another great thing.  4 baby geese at the pond.  Remeber I put up a fence to portect the nest.  The "boys'" dogs always got into it.  Went this PM.  Did not see geese at the nest.  Went rushing over and saw emply shells.  I just knew something had gotten to them even with fence still up. Walked back to truck and saw both geese swimming toward truck [means corn to them] and little ones in a line behind Mom.

OK, here is a plan.  At 10:00 AM EDT [Doug and Shake and Bake will be up], lets all stop and say a short prayer for RT, the job and a house.  If you miss the time, do it when you think of it.  God bless.

Good night and sleep tight.

Brutus - I am NOT an expert, but I thought that you need some type of a conductor for electrolysis to occur such as water.  I am interested to see what others may say, but unless their was condensation going on I don't think it would be a problem.

Speaking of York, I would imagine that we will here there were all kinds of great deals, because..

- The spring show I believe is better priced than the fall show, because the "train season" is over for the year.

- With the economy as it is, I would think there are a lot of people try to raise some cash, and liquidating some inventory.

- For the same reason probably a buyers market, because not so many buyers, due to money and cash being tight.  (I'm definetely in this group, (not the buyers, watching the cash.))

Thank gosh for the weekly parties, at least the transportation is free, can't say the dress code is too good though!  (aluminized undies, togas, etc.)

Great IDEA, I'm definetly in, been thinking about RT all afternoon.  Hoping maybe WHEN he gets the position he could find a place to rent for the interium.  Not fun, I've done that rent a studio apt, and go home on weekends.

Morning Folks,

Thought I'd stop in for a cup.  Met up with John Fullerton/jefelectric yesterday at York. Chatted for a few minutes. Wandered through the Orange Hall. Only bought one small item a KCC handcar for less than $20. I think my nephew will enjoy the action. I also saw a few other things that caught my interest, may have to see if they are still available today. If not, oh well.  My buddy came along as a guest, he spent most of the day with that deer inthe head lights look... walking along like a bobblehead doll. Overwhelmed, he finally broke open his wallet late in the day and pick uped a few ore cars that were on his list.  Came home and had some nice NY strips on the grill, very tasty.  Will have to take care of his TCA membership today, I think he is hooked and will return on a regular basis.

Hope you all have a great day.

Mornin' Fellas.

Stuck at work till I head out at 11:00 for York.

RT - Will say a prayer for you on the house/job front. Hang in there it will all work out.

Yesterday after Susie-Q Dr Appt. I went up to York (had about an hour) so I could get the things I knew I needed and where they were. Ended up spending most of my money so today will be a nice leisurely day.

Here's my purchase list:
Domino Sugar Sign - Miller Electronics
Theater Marquee - Miller Electronics
Auto Reversing Board - can't remember the seller's name
Lionel C&O 4-Bay Hopper (die-cast single that goes with the 2-pack)
Lionel Chessie PS-1 Boxcar
Lionel Operating Oil Pump
4 replacement bulbs for my Oil Field (broke a bulb putting it together last weekend)
1 replacement truck for the NYC flatcar that got damaged in shipment to the 'debacle of 2007'

So today I'll be looking for scenery materials, foam cutting tool, and maybe a building to put the theater marquee on.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a beautiful morning. 45 degrees and sunny. Going up to 75 today, with mostly sunshine.

Today is not too busy. I will be outside and working around the yard. I want to take advantage of the nice weather. Looks like we have a few days of rain on the way.  No time for trains today, but I will spend some time in the train room this weekend.

RT.......Prayers out for you. Things will get better.

Dining car is here early, and it's time for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Friday.

Brutus: I believe he installed plastic flex tubing with stainless steel braded jacket. Supposed to be blow-out proof. Yes it's safe.  Like on the race cars, only the hoses are made of rubber.

Can you buy long braded hose sections, make a loop in them, and attach to the base of the faucet connections?

OR Check the base of the copper pipe from the faucet...should be a compression fitting. Brass collar and a nut on the cut pipe. You may be able to pull these off, and shorten the pipe with a pipe cutter to make it fit, and push the nut and the collar back on. Call me in the afternoon/evening if you need help. I'll be at the zoo in the am.

Morning.  Warm and sunny.  Fife just called "tooling" down the highway but wanted to let me know he knew when 10:00 was going to chime.  Thanks Fife.  Well, I'm off to Frankie's to help him move to new house [called at 9 last night needing my truck].  Well, almost 10 AM.  Later and God bless.

RT - With your positive attitude, I'm sure it will work out for you!!

You guys need to cut those earthquakes out!!!  Don't you realize that when you take and shake the "middle" of something, the edges get shaken more violently.  So knock it OUT, PLEASE.

Gas is now up to $4.29 a gallon !!!  (regular) Unbelievable, IMO think this whole issue goes back to refinery capacity, and EPA restrictions on building or expanding existing ones.

Moved stuff around in the train room last night, providing for a work station, and better high density storage.  Ends up freeing some other areas up too.

Gotta a busy, busy weekend coming up.  Saturday, working a computer show in the morning from 5 am to 11.  While I'm doing that wife will be setting up for a show at another location, so I go directly to that one.  Finsih there about 5:30, then go home, and she is working as a volunteer server for the "Champagne Opener" at the community playhouse.  Then Sunday back to the computer show all day.  Looking forward to Monday!!!

Better get to work, have a great day everyone !!!

Hello Don:

Refinery capacity certainly impacts gasoline prices.  However, the biggest cause of our current headaches is currency.  With the Fed trying to bail out homeowners from stupid financing decisions, the lower rates have continued to depress the value of the dollar.  If the dollar was at the same level it was back in August (when the Fed started dropping rates), oil would only be around $75.00/barrel instead of $110.00+/barrel.  The consensus is that the dollar should start recovering during the second half of the year and the impact on oil prices will be immediate.

John

No disagreement on the "current" situation,  then it only goes back down to $3.xx.  However, from everything I see there is not a shortage of crude.  If we relaxed some of the "green" issues a bit, and had additional refinning capability we would see barrel pricing well below $55/gal..  (Supply & Deman)  We don't increase the supply as the demand continues to soar.  (Open up the Gulf, Shale from the North Bank, Calif. coastline, midwest, etc., etc.....)

Hello Don:

I don't know if the price would drop that far, but it would fall.  NIMBY plays a big factor in a lot of these discussions.  The one bright spot is that the higher price of oil will only speed up the development of alternative fuels.  Which, in the long run, will be critical if the developed world is to have its energy needs met.
