I am always amazed at the quality of people I have met and 'met' on the board. For the most part all of you are incredible people, and I mean that honestly.

Today when I arrived home I opened my mailbox only to find a cardboard box inside. I pulled it out and brought it inside, on the outside was a mailing label from PA, so I gingerly opened the box and pulled out a Chessie Steelsided Caboose.

JF I am truely honored... truely.

Morning I guess.  Stayed up and watched Patriot.  Love that movie. Got it on DVD but still watch it on cable.  Put together a nice TV "table" [not really a table as it has shelves in middle an drawers down each side] Pam bought.  Had to drive 40 miles round trip to get it and bring it home.  They wanted $80 to deliver it.  Then put together the base and mounted big flat screen plasma HD TV [Panosonic].  Time Warner coming to install HD box tomorrow afternoon.  Getting all of that done after 8 PM and watching movie shot the time.  Off to bed.  God bless.

Morning!

Brent:  Great news on the new Caboose!...? That sounds weird.

Doug:  Hope you get something with flanged wheels!

Sir James:  Great looking layout!  Looks like a lot of action!

RT:  Hang In Here...Still praying!

Well dog woke me up again this am...seems she has the same intestinal gurgling I had for the entire last week.  Sir James...I wouldn't recommend sharing her banilla right now.  I hope it's not too late.

Sound board in...paint today!  Went to Michaels for paint pens, but I only saw paint markers that wrote like markers...not very opaque...I picked up some acrylics and tested application with a tech pen for layout on control panel with mixed results.  Will look at something else today.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps near 80.  Did half hour of track work outside at the YMCA last night.  Had good success conducting a meeting in Second Life at work yesterday.   Down the road this may mean I might be able to work at home instead of commuting.  I was halfway successful on eBay last night.  I got one item, but waited too long on another and missed the time period.  Watched bits and pieces of "Deal or No Deal".  Got gasoline for both the truck and the minivan, and it was almost $100.  Ouch.  Taking Lucas and wife to IU today for a campus visit.  Hope to get some questions answered.  I had English muffins and cereal for breakfast on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 55 degrees. Beautiful start to a day. Going up to 80 today, with sunshine.

Today is a less busy day. I have a few things to do around the house and then I will relax. Looks like summer is coming with all the new foliage. I may run trains later, when it warms up. A/C is ready to go.

Dining car has rolled in from " points west ". Breakfast.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

Morning again.  Seems like I just went to bed.  OH, I just did.  Could not sleep past 7:30?????  Going to get moving [slowly].  Fix breakfast and snooze.  Want to transplant from the big pots to garden the three tomato plants that are 4 feet tall.  They have been out side of the greenhouse for two weeks.  Should be conditioned by now.  Suppose to get to mid 80's today.

Marty E, you might make it as a good Yank after all.  Keep up the NS and we will see. Wink [;)]

Fifey, found an old train magazine and the feature story is the Southern RR and the Rathole Div.  Have not had time to look at the article.

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 61 already here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Just a couple of English muffins (Brent lives pretty close to the Thomas plant BTW).

Sir James - Ahoooooy, crew members!Pirate [oX)] Grew up watching Captain Chesapeake.  I actually have a slide somewhere of the CSX Seagirt terminal, and a huge 4 masted ship in the Baltimore Harbor in the background.

Laz - better a mole than a gerbil.

Chief - I think I remember that issue.  Pay attention to the deep rock cuts, and you'll get an idea of what I'm talking about.

Morning all.  Trying to get over the crud.  Marty, great looking engine you have there.  Brent, I saw the photos on the progress thread, looks great....keep up the good work.  RT, glad you got the place sold.  Now it is just a question of jumping through all the hoops till you are in SC.  Good luck.

Brent, you are correct in that this forum has some of the best folks you will come across.  I too have benefitted by the generocity of some folks here.  Both Technically...telling me how to do things, and by gifts to make the Ogauge world a little more fun.

Well, I had better go and try to find a lounge to sleep in, or medicate myself to beat this crud.  God Bless,

Good Morning

Its sunny and going to the 70s. Thanks go to Brutus for posting my Pics.,hope you like them.

The ship you see is a plastic model of the Thernopyle, about 30 inch's long and took me a year to do the rigging as the glued knots had to dry to keep the lines tight. then I would do a couple more. Before super glue. My wife and I have been to Boston and Baltimore to see the ship(s) in those two cities along with trains of course. Both cities are great to visit.Plus many many others. Got to be careful here.   Everyone have a safe day,,,,S.J.

Tore up the corner of the layout yesterday.  Got some ideas from the fellas on the MTJ for it as well as Frank.  Looks like I'll be adding some scratch built bridges.  Oh boy wood work...note the sarcasm.

Hope you're feelin better, Dennis.

Sir James, that sailing ship model looks magnificent! (Clang, Clang)

I bought the Plymouth set at Boscov's for me birthday in a few weeks. I want the 2 axle cars for Percy. I've had a good day so far - fixed the sink, cleaned some carpet, got rid of a cat (that's a long story), and successfully argued a ticket I got for supposedly not paying twenty-five cents for parking - which I did.

What do you for your brides who are moms on Mothers Day? I have to work that day and I want to start thinking about it.

Doug, If memory serves correctly the ore cars come with scale couplers so you will have to change at least one car or Percy. I have been considering getting the KCC set and putting it away for a bit, the grandson's name starts with a K so it would be simple to maybe setup a small coal mine operation, Kelton's Coal Co. Approve [^]

Got all my stuff packed for the museum run tomorrow, will be a predominantly a D&H day. The Challenger with a slew of woodside reefers, C-420 lashup with a bunch of mixed freight, but I can't forget my roots so a B&O passenger consist will also be running.

Gotta go get a new burner assembly for the grille, did a couple of steaks the other nite and the flame was all orange. Pulled it apart and the burners were totally rusted out in spots.

Later all, gotta get in gear and "git'er dun".

P.S. Just love it when the "Tall Ships" visit Sandy Eggo, the Star of India is berthed here as part of the maritime museum. Thumbs Up [tup]

Howdy,

I was passing by and noticed the coffee was old so fresh is on.

The pic of the sailing ship is on a shelf with several others, one of which is a balsa model of the Queen Mary I built in the fiftys. It  too is about 30 inch's long. Those few of you will remember that a lot of modeling was with wood in those days and plastic models was a new idea. The QM was a kit and the hull was shaped and sanded from a large single peice of balsa.

We have had a sunny but windy day that just made it to 70,but maybe some rain tomorrow. I ran the HWX for awhile today,it sure does smoke good for a Lionel. Later,,,S.J.

RT, it is no fun when you are between jobs or waiting to hear from a potentail employers. It seems to be a trend latley of not taking the time to respond with at least a letter of rejection. Companies who's HR department are too enexperienced or ignorant to follow through with corenspondance are not worth working for in my opinion. My 2 cents [2c]

While I am ranting is there any way of getting a spelling checker for the forum?

Sir James, is Balsa wood easy to work with? Is there any kits old or new for rolling stock using Balsa?

Way to go on the weight loss, CSX.  I remember I made some balsa models as a kid -- I'll bet you can still find some, but don't know about train stuff?  As I recall, you have to dope it and sand it a lot to get a really nice finish.  Didn't Dave V (FJ&G) make a switcher with a wood body recently?  Like last year?

Laz - Are you a Swinger, Baby?  Well, Are you?  Behave!  Laugh [(-D]

Storms in St. Louis today and supposed to rain tomorrow.  Going to a camporee tomorrow night Sigh [sigh]  Hope we don't freeze again like last year.

Doug - I think I have some cars just like that, which came with a handcar and a tool car in a Kennecott set?  It's a cool little set and I think I paid a little more for it, too.  Doug is right, the couplers are not your regular Lionel type.  I know you will cobble a new one on though and it will look great!  Those should look great with Percy, too Thumbs Up [tup]

Kurt - I think they do make opaque paint markers?  Did you try a Michaels or another store like that?  Are you painting right over varnished wood?  What color do you want?

Sir James, that is a really cool ship model, man!  I've never been good at ship models with all that string, even as a kid.  I did have one of a Viking ship that was cool years ago.

Chewy's dewclaws are okay - we took her in for grooming and told them to watch it.  We are going to buy one of those grinder things from Petco to do a better job ourselves, though.

Dennis, hope you are feeling better!?

Chief, homegrown tomatoes are the best.  The only good ones at the grocery store are Roma tomatoes, the rest are really green and gassed to make them look red (I read).

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

It has been a great day here today.  Sunny and warm.  Worked out this morning and tended the plants in and out of the greenhouse.  Baby sat the one year old granddaughter, which was quite easy as she slept the whole time except for about 20 minutes.  She woke up a little confused as she went to sleeep in Mom's car and woke up in Pop-pops house.  Just relaxing this evening.  Hope everyone is sharing this nice weather.  Really appreciate the pics of Sr James nice layout that Jim is posting for him.

Evening All

The Southern engines are Lionel MPC that only had one motor, however being close to the L factory I was able to get powered frames and that would give me F units with two motors.(one motor in each A unit) balsa was used for models because it was soft and easy to sand into shapes, and then sanding  sealer before painting. I do not think any O ga. rolling stock was made from it, too soft. I use to build freight car kits for P & D customers and they were usually hard wood. Way back in time they made a hard wood box and then used printed cardboard sides for freight cars. Still haven't been to the store for cookies but we got banilla and peach if anyone wants to drop by,,,,,,S.J.

Evening all.  [retyping this as Censored [censored] software dropped my long post]  Set out the three "greenhouse" tomato plants.  Taller than the basket around them so did stackers on top of the baskets.  Used new John Deere 25 gallon trailer sprayer I bought from buddy for half price.  Never been used.  Runs off of the JD battery.  I just ride around and spray.  Will shoot to the top of my apple tree.  Also had three fan sprayers on the back with booms.  Can spray a section 4 feet wide.

Got HD TV installed this afternoon.  Love it.  Big screen!!!!

Just got back from a very conserative organization dinner.  Bar-be-que [Eastern NC pork vinegar base] and fried chicken meal.  Had to get up and speak about the school thing.

Now to rest and snooze.  Sleep tight and God bless.

We had tyson chicken strips for dinner.  We have some sugar cookies, so I'll bring them over Sir James.  They go good with Banilla, esp if you warm them up a little in the microwave - yummy!

Well, I'll be up late doing laundry.  Thought I would do some laundry of my clothes for the weekend, and then at bedtime my boy tells me he has no clothes even for tomorrow - D'oh!

Chief, here is a little tip that will save you a lot of aggravation in the future. Instead of typing directly into the forum response box, type your comments in your word processor program first, and then cut and paste your message when you are done.

You'll never lose your work again. And, as an added benefit, you can run the spell check before posting.

Wake up sleepy heads. its time to get going heading to sc again!! to look for a place to live will be heading out at 6am so I'll be there by 10am. have to be back tonight as I have to work tomorrow. Still need finger prints to clear befor I get the job but I'm going to accept it. startting out lower than hoped but still a good pay raise from what I'm getting at present. Figure once I work about 12 weeks the difference in pay will pay for the move ( still have to figure the cost of getting utilities turned on and all the trips down and back to do this ) but in all I know basicly in 6 months it will basicly paid for itself.

Hope all is fine with you all. Well time to get the other half up. Talk to you all tonight or tomorrow and let you all know how things have gone.
