Morning Folks,

Made a fresh pot.

RT - Seems as though things are headed in the right direction.  Hope you find a place in SC and get the fingerprints back soon so you can start the new job.

dweimer - Hope you kick the crud.  Lots of folks here have been sick.

jefelectric, brent, fife - Just been thinking about B's layout and what great progress he has made.  Really enjoyed the visit last weekend. I wish I had more layout space.  Several times in the last few months the Mrs. has mentioned moving, but I really don't want to move. I love Gettysburg. In addition we have too much junk and we have less than a year on our mortgage. Plus a move back to MD would bring taxes on my pension if I ever retire.

Chief - I am jealous that you have tomatoes that big.  You'll be eating home grown tomatoes before I get any planted at the rate I am going.

Really busy at work.  Lots of little details to get ready for the move into the building plus hiring a bunch more people. Cafeteria Manager is the next hire, interviews Monday.  Interviews for Reading Specialist are Tuesday and Thursday of next week. Posted more pics on the website if anyone is interested.

Take care,

Mitch

Yup...paint over varnished (poly-finish) wood.  I added the color yesterday with the paints...didn't turn out as well as hoped.  Sigh [sigh]  Thanks for looking.  The good news is this will stand up to the poly over the top.

Bottom are switches, centers control blocks and UCS, and top are the fuses.  To the left is a crane controller, and various other switches, for lighting and accessories.  I'll post again when complete.

Rain expected off and on most of today after 4-days of Sun and 70+.  Maybe get some track laid, and get the trains a rollin'.

It is a cloudy 59 degrees. Going up to 75 today, with a chance of showers, later.

Today is a busy day. I have a lot of little things to do around the house. Then later, I will spend some time in the train room, relaxing. Good day to run trains.

Dining car has arrived, early, and is ready for breakfast. Later.

Mornin' Fellas.

Not much going on these days. Ran the trains last night and the Williams B&O Sharks are acting up. Not sure but I think there are problems with the e-units as when I power them up the circuit breaker trips. Not going to worry about them until I get the ERR TMCC upgrade boards in a few months... when I have both engines on the track the circuit breaker trips, when I have either the A or B unit on the e-unit won't trip.

Also cut some more plywood last night on the second level, now need to remove 2 1.25" sections of track from the lower second level and I'll be ready to start building the cliff wall... will post pics of this area as I need some tips on what to do with the upper second level track.

Hey before I forget... I need a pin to attach a plastic truck to a flatcar... any suggetions (I haven't looked and don't know what I'm looking for any way).

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with a threat of thundershowers during the day and temps in the 70s.  Survived the trip to Bloomington yesterday.  Felt out of sorts and sleepy during visit with one daughter while we were down there.  I think the visit to IU helped Lucas confirm his decision to go there.  When we got home, we found he got a little bit more financial aid from IU, which was good news.  More would help, but any is good.  I did do weights at the YMCA, but I taped "Lost" since it is on so late.  I may watch it tonight.  I had English muffins and cereal on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 50 here in the Mid-Atlantic region; s'posed to rain later.

mitchie - Why in the world would your lady want to forsake G'berg for Marty-land?

88 - instead of securing from the bottom, why not tie down that truck with black elastic thread, and chock the tires?

Good Morning everyone.  Hope all are well and happy today.  Thanks for the kind thoughts.  I am feeling a little better, but still on the junky side.  Mitch, nice looking school.  It looks a lot bigger than the high school I attended.  RT, continued prayers.  I think you will be much happier in the VA System.  Benefits are much better than most other employers.

I saw Tony Orlando on Fox this morning.  Great that he lost all that weight, but I am more impressed with his hard work for the Troops.  I always look up to folks who give of themselves to help our fighting men and women.  Now if only our political types would support the troops with actions instead of words.

Well, I have a relatively light day here, so I hope to just hang around for a little while and then head to the house to wait on the Dishwasher repair folks.  Maybe that will be some time well spent working on the layout....I hope.  My head is hurting, so maybe I'll rest.

God Bless,

dennis

Morning all. Grey but warm. Probably going to rain.  Thanks for the tips, Doug and Brutus. I read about scale couplers but it didn't sink in. I'll figure something out. Mitch, the school photos look great - it's really coming along. Dennis, hope you can rest today. Think I'm taking the middle boy to a coffee house tonight so he can play his gui-tar. It's not his usual heavy-metal-ish sound :)

Almost forgot, Brent, in similar circumstances, I made a new pin from an old sprue from plastic model kit. Cut it, shaped it a bit so it would plug in but glued it in.

Sorry I've been absent posting of late.  Son's car died again (auto disaster...., a semiannual tradition), and (surprise again, NOT) no money to fix the transmission.  I have been successful so far convincing wifey that we should just let him stew (see what you have to look forward to Roy?), keep the bank accounts in the black, and stop being the perpetual free answer to transportation issues  Banged Head [banghead].  When I was his age......SoapBox [soapbox].  One question:  at one point do the kids who have ostensibly moved out to stretch their independence legs remove their Censored [censored] from the homestead and move on financially and emotionally?  Need to move to Roseyville while leaving no forwarding address.

Meanwhile, we nearly lost our (wife's child replacement) 9 year old rescued Doberman Duke to "hemorrhagic gastroenteritis."  Vomit and diarrhea city, dog went from near normal to what appeared to be death's door in about 10 hours.

Took dog to the veterinary hospital emergency room in the middle of the night.  Upon arrival, nearly lost my mind when we were presented with the "estimate" for his care, 70% down and balance due on pickup of either carcass or dog, whichever.  Weeping wife asked, "What do you think we should do?"  A trick question, I thought.  If something like this ever happens to me, she might conclude "Jack was a faithful and loyal old boy, but we've got to let him go.  Can't stand to see him suffering like this.  Give him the needle and throw his carcass in the trunk of the car."

36 hours later the dog was home.  Doing the math on a per hour basis, you would have thought the dog was staying in the penthouse suite at the Boston Four Seasons Hotel with caviar, running Dom Perignon champage, and a half dozen in-heat female poodles at his beck and call.  Come to think of it, that would have been cheaper.

Anyway, it was 36 and sunny this AM in my neck of the woods North of Boston, a far cry from 82 just two days ago.  When I read all of you guys out there with overgrown tomato plants and about to drop that second coat of fertilizer.......In March we were deluged with rain and runoff.  Now we have a "fire watch" and .3 inches of precipitation in April with no appreciable rain in the forecast until the middle of the coming week.

Jack, good luck with the dog.  Hope it gets better soon.

Got Town Hall stuff to do later today.

Hmm squirrel for breakfast, chief, I thought you just ate grits and eggs. Please come scratch some squirrels for me we have way too many but we are not allowed to scratch them here. Being a mayor from a foreign country you might get away with it. Just a thought.

Jack - I've been there, done that with 1 dog and 1 cat. This was with my ex, and I told it would have been cheaper to put them down and buy new... that didn't go over well. Good luck with Jake.

All I can say about kids, knowing from my own experience, is the best thing to do is to not bail them out. I know it was tough for my parents, but when I would ask for cash to fix something my Dad would say 'Money is tight here too. Maybe saving some money would be better than spending it all the time.' Eventually they see the light (at least I did).

 fifedog wrote:

That's what I want to do with the broken truck... I want to fix the flatcar so I can use it... actually probably going to repaint it then use it.

Unfortunately I don't have any old sprue laying around... Sad [:(]

Off to Lowes to see what they have, stop at the bank and pay may car payment (just love this time of the month) and try to get back here before too long...

Chief - Times getting tough? You have to shoot your breakfast before you eat???? And here I thought all you did was go to meetings and eat free food!

Happy Birthday, Rich!  Happy B-Day [bday]

Well, I'm just hanging out with Chewy, waiting for my son to get home from school outing so we can go to boyscout camporee - of course it's overcast, big storms coming, and temps to drop all weekend after a nice couple of weeks.  I think this is one of those things where whatever can go wrong will go wrong?  So, just stopping in for a quick cup of joe, a donut and to say hi and I hope you all have a great weekend!  TTFN

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good Evening All,

Barely avoided a big scrum of cars on my way home from East Boston.  Half wound up facing the wrong way, debris everywhere, About 10 people standing outside their cars in the middle of the road.  Good idea to exchange info.  Bad idea in the middle of the evening rush when those still with operable cars are in a hurry to get home and are dodging the people and the smashed cars like a yellow cauition during a Nascar race.

Sir James......thanks for the photos of your layout.  Brutus' expertise scanning old photos was impressive.  Is that a Lionel #115 lighted train station covered in plastic on the corner of your layout?  Nice diesels!

CSX.......continued wishes on your successful quest.  Bet you are going broke buying new clothes, unless you are like me and saved the ones from 10-15 years ago in the unlikely event I would ever see that weight again.

Mike C.......sounds like the past couple of months your Y workouts have gone from difficult and challenging to boring.  That's good.  And on the topic if IU, there's a home equity loan commercial on the radio here where the Dad gets the news from his wife that Junior just got accepted at "$50,000 A Year University."

Chief.....hope the wife is back to normal and you continue to work your way back at a sensible pace, though it sounds like you are pushing the envelope a bit.  Except for the popcorn and reclinerizing.

RT......we're going to have to give you the nickname "Rocky" because you refuse to quit.  My prayers that your househunting trip is encouraging and Uncle VA makes a Censored [censored] but correct decision in your favor.

Dennis......look at what the "crud" did to Chief.  Hope you don't have to go through what he did.  Messed up his typing and spelling big time, and no mention of grits for a while.  Serious repercussions.  The squirrels are paying the price.

Laz......put some bait on that hook this time....the trout like it, and you can be the one with the larger catch for a change.

Mitch.....thanks for the construction project pics.  Our town is breaking ground on a (at last estimate) a $63 million renovation and expansion while at the same time cutting the number of elementary schools by 2, and wondering how to close another school budget deficit, $2.5 million this time.  No money, and the City will come looking for the solution through a steep jack in the property taxes, yet again.  Welcome to Taxachussetts.  Re train space or a lack thereof, join the club.  It dawned on me that one day I have to pay off the mortgage, downsize, and still acquire train space.  Too much junk laying around.  I need a good fire (insured), after I move the trains out of the house.

J&J John.....haven't heard how you are recovering.  Hope you are mending nicely.

Brent.....coffee spraying out my nose with your earlier post.  Let's see......work, school, house projects, building a dream layout at breakneck speed, and you note "Not much going on here."  Compared to what?  The building of the pyramids?  Big Smile [:D]

Rich.....Happy B-Day [bday] #53.  Remember, old=your chronological age + 20.

Thanks for the kind thoughts guys.  I am a little better, but I do believe the wife has it too.  It is bad when we get sick, but when the matriarchs of our abodes get ill, it is really bad.  The kids, the house, so much they do, so much we get to take for granted.  Guess I am going to have to get busy.

Well, the repair folks came by for the dishwasher.....$80 to turn the thing on, say the noise is a  impeller for the pump and that they come as a single unit...will call with estimate....$410.  I think it is time to go for a new one.

Rich, Happy Birthday...you don't look a day over 60...just kidding!  Congratulations on your special day.  Best wishes in the job front.  Watching cartoons with the kids...reminds me of my days in the firehouse.  Hope to get into the train room tonight.  Have to make sure kids are taken care of.  Might have to wait till after bed time.

Hope y'all have a blessed weekend

Dennis

We need a part for an MTH loco and I've been trying to find a phone number for MTH parts in Maryland.  I've checked their website, googled them, etc. and nowhere is there any mention of even a mailing address, let alone a phone number.  If anyone has one it'll be appreciated.

Good evening All

Happy birthday Rich. 53 ah to be young again.  Happy B-Day [bday]

the 115 station in the pic.,It is a 1988 Lionel Classic remake,I use two of them. The Lionel Classic's were produced by MTH for Lionel during the good years when they were on speaking terms. Why their arrangement broke down is another story.

Our temp reached 80 today, but rain expected before morning is bringing cooler temps. that are going to stay awhile. But its been a beautiful two weeks. No trains ran here today but I did talk to my train friend about trains so that counts. Enjoy the weekend,,,S.J.

edit Roger B I have this MTH number from that other forum-Midge-410-381-2580 You will leave a message and she returns the calls, I believe she is the only human working there.

Evening fellers. It was a big day today, my birthday! The big 1-4! Wink [;)]

Just yesterday me and a friend at school discovered that we are actually older than we say we are. Why? Leap years. Each leap year adds and extra day to that year. So, in truth, 14 years ago today was not April 25. It would be April 28th. Funny, huh?

Happy B-Day [bday] #14, Grayson!  Your post made me stop and think. I sat here for a while and tried to remember what it was like when I was 14.

Let's see.  I turned 14 during the second semester of my Freshman year in high school.  The downsides.....I was too small and uncoordinated to make any of the sports teams, but that changed.  Wasn't much of a student, but that changed too.  Things I worried about one year seemed funny the next.

I had my Postwar Lionels cranking on the layout my Dad built for us, a 2 line affair with inner and outer loops powered by a ZW and connected by 4 electric switches and a single switched siding, mountain and tunnels made by hand with wood, chicken wire, paper, and plaster.  Strombecker and Eldon 2 lane car race car sets to compliment the trains.  Slot cars were huge, and you could go racing your stuff with your friends on large 8 lane commercial tracks.

396 Corvettes, 421 Grand Prix, 389 GTOs, E-Type Jaguars, the new Mustangs, Lincoln Continentals with the suicide doors, and some of the most beautiful Thunderbirds ever made, except for the 55-57 model years.  Ford, Chrysler, Pontiac, and Chevy all duking it out on Nascar with 7 Ltr. monster motors, no stinking restrictor plates.  Clark Super 100 gasoline......100 octane from the pump!

Our first color television!  There were no cell phones, so my friends and I saved our money and bought 2 way radios, Walkie talkies with a .5 mile range if you got the good ones.  Air conditioning was called a window fan.  My transportation was a lime green Schwinn Varsity 10 speed bicycle purchased with money ($69.95) earned from a paper route, mowing lawns (the term landscaping hadn't been invented yet), and shovelling snow by hand. Keds and PF Flyers, shoes we called sneakers. The NASA efforts to be the first to put a man on the moon. Rotary dial telephones that lit up in the dark.  Seatbelts in cars were a rare option.  We had hi-fi because stereo hadn't been invented yet.  A 23 inch television was the largest, if my memory serves me correctly......picture a room full of 15 people gathered for the 1963 NFL championship game and trying to watch it all on a screen that size!  Gas was about $.25 per gallon and a McDonalds cheeseburger $.12.  We had it all, or so it seemed.

Now that you've stopped laughing, go have a ball.  You're only 14 once, and you'll be telling similar stupid stories to your kids and grandkids.....though I bet you didn't have to walk to school in 4 feet of snow, uphill in both directions, braving -15 degree temps and 40 mph winds.  We didn't have snow days back then, they hadn't been invented.

Congrats RT.  Late Happy Birthday Rich. Happy B-Day [bday]  did not go to movie in the park, had to go to funeral home to visit with Sunday School classmate as his Mom died [she had be failing for a while].  New TV works just as good as the old one.  Went to sleep and just woke up.  Laugh [(-D] Will not mention the guy who got the trashy CSX engine a few days ago. Whistling [:-^] OH WELL, Happy Birthday Grayson.Happy B-Day [bday]   God bless.  Sleep tight.

I have been going to the thrift stores to get a pair of pants now and then went from a 58 down to 44 and even that is becoming to loose on me.

Got up early and washed both car and truck, played with Space station sim and even ran some of my trains the day  went downhill from there on.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a partly cloudy 66 degrees. Going up to 70 today with a chance of rain.

Today is a busy day. Need to mow grass, if it doesn't rain. Maybe tomorrow. I have a few chores to do and then I will spend some time in the train room. The usual cleaning and putting things in place. Not much else new here.

Indians beat the Yankees last night. 6 to 4.  Wife is happy.

Dining car is here and it's time for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Saturday.

Chuck
