Morning All !

Congrats Chief, way to go!  Need more people to look at what's right and not be concerned with next office or being re-elected.

New law gone into affect here, (maybe nationwide?), vehicles now have to have a sticker indictating their effect on global warming, what the vehicles footprint would be on a relative scale.  Funny thing the state doesn't have enough money to put out all the fires, surprised there isn't a global warming affect from that. I wonder how many lawnpowers, fireplaces, boat engines, etc. is equivalent to one fire?

Today definetly starting off better than yesterday!  Yesterday family left for 3 days in Vegas, as was getting ready found out that the hot water heater wasn't working.  Tried re-lighting pilot to no avail.  Had to get to work and take care of it later.  Tried calling service about it and they were closed.  Got a hold of them this morning, 5am, and they are certain it is a thermocouple.  They are sending one out overnight at NO charge.  Cold Showers ----  Ugh, Brrrrrrr  (Thankfully I am here by myself.)

Getting things ready for Operating session this week, making diagrams of the layout, and switch markers.  Should be a fun session.

Did manage to get the Legacy System shipped, and should be receiving a Teather for one of my engines today.  Got a great deal on it from Mizels in Colorado.  Cheaper price, and much, much quicker transit time, from 2-3 weeks down to 3 days.

Need to get a couple more packages shipped today.

Don:  Make sure you leave the thick plastic cover on the thermocouple if it arrives that way, or they'll charge you for a new one...I speak from experience.  Oh ya, ane don't try to replace it when the tank is full.  I'm not proud.

Chief:  Go get 'em!

Chief, Congratulations!  I think you are going to get a reputation as one not to mess with.  I am tired!  On call and could have slept later the last few days, but up each morning before 04:30.  Got a lot on my mind about things here.  Have some issues to handle that hopefully will be done tomorrow.  (Same issue Kim told you of Chief)

On the train front, got some more items in from CHOOCHOO.  Picked up a couple of older woodsided refer cars.  Also picked up a Seaworld Shamu car.

Laz, I think it was you who had a friend doing the NY harbor scene on his layout.  Well, I TiVo(ed) a program on Trains and Locomotives on the Central RR of NJ and the NY harbor with B&O and Reading railroads represented.  It was on this morning at 0400.  I am sure it will air again soon.  They had some great footage of the terminal in Jersey City and the ferry system there too.  I am not sure of the years, but they had a variety of steam, diesels, and some electric.  They had some FM trainmasters and "Baby FMs" as well as a few camelbacks.

Well, have to run.  Hope everyone has a great day

God bless,

dennis

Dennis, even with the condo-ization of Hoboken and JC, there are still many relics of that area's rich rail history present today.

The teens are both driving me crazy... I confiscated an iPod with the middle boy's dark music a day ago - and after not listening to that head-banging stuff for 24 hrs, he admitted (to my bride - never me) that he feels better today. Last eve, the daughter presented me with a bill for $65 for a book from the library that was 'misplaced' - I may add it to her tab...

I guess the party is at Brent's tonight! Warm up the Tardis Brutus and you can swing by to pick me up downtown after I let my class out at 8. Tell Laz I left a few Old Styles for his bear under that thermocoupler thingie we borrowed from Don's house.

Don, That sounds invigorating, maybe you should just jump in the pool, that water is probably hotter than your shower. Big Smile [:D]

Doug, Hang in there, in 10-15 years you will look back and laugh about it.  Maybe?

Anyone familiar with the Indiana RR?  Here is an article I came across.

INDIANAPOLIS - As The Indiana Rail Road Co. prepares to place its first six SD9043MAC locomotives in service this summer, the company announced plans to preserve two examples of its earliest motive power in heritage paint, the railroad said.

Engine No. 2543, an ex-Santa Fe CF7, and GP16 No. 1701, a former CSX unit, are currently being shopped at National Railway Equipment and VMV, respectively, for mechanical overhaul. They'll get a fresh paint design that evokes the first scheme worn by Indiana Rail Road locomotives. The 1987 design, by graphic artist Roger Rasor, will be modified slightly, according to Indiana Rail Road communications director Chris Rund.

"We're going to 'ripen' the original color palette, with a deeper, richer gray," said Rund, "and we'll be adding a feature that pays tribute to our namesake, the Indiana Railroad, which operated electric interurban routes and premium overnight freight service between Indiana manufacturing centers."

Indiana Rail Road is a regional rail carrier comprising about 500 route miles in Indiana and Illinois with headquarters in Indianapolis and operations centers in Terre Haute and Jasonville, Ind. The company moves 180,000 carloads annually.

An interesting RR, not exactly a short line with 500 miles of track.  Very colorful locomotives.

Oh man is that COLD !!!  I learned this morning for sure, that the longer the water runs the colder it gets!!  Decided then I was going to do exactly as John suggested.  Hit the pool tonight, the water is probably around 80.  So if you guys come by tonight better turn the siren and flashing lights on, otherwise you may see more than you want to.

Doug, Speaking about the music, a week ago Chris asked us to go to a movie.  We saw Wanted, the movie was nothing but graphic violence.  Afterwards, everyone was asked how we liked it.  I told them it was pretty sad, that OUR society has set its values so low, that we have to look at something like that was for enjoyment.  Unfortunately, some of the music is the same.  GEE, I sound like my grandfather.

Due to some small town Mayor's outburst at a meeting near  Raleigh,  the Corps of Engineers have asked us to build a new dam such that the little town will be about 30 feet underwater.  I wonder what town they have in mind.  Whistling [:-^]

Roy.....The wine train brings in so much business to the locals that they have stopped complaining.  We did see a truck run the stop sign at one grade crossing and our conductor called the law on him.  Did I mention I rode in the cab and the observation platform?  Big Smile [:D]  They now travel at 20-25 MPH.

What's wrong with fifedog?  I must have missed something while I was gone.  Mange?  Fleas?  Rabies?

Don.....I read today that California's Mount Shasta glaciers are increasing in size.  Please write your officials and tell them to get with the global warming and green trend.  Also saw on TV that Sacramento burned to the ground.....or something like that.   Do you guys pay taxes in California?  I thought the roads in Pennsylvania were bad, but I-80 near Donner Pass is one bad bad road.  It is the roughest road outside of Roseyville, NC.  That is one big wind farm southeast of Oakland.  It was interesting to see the broken rotor blades.

Jim.....Southern Ohio is much more beautiful than the area around Napa.  They drink expensive wines such that they believe it is a gorgeous paradise.  In Southern Ohio you can sit on the hills overlooking the Ohio River, drink a couple of Buds and it has the same affect.

Doug....You need to take a vacation to SF to see the street cars.  While I was there the Cubies beat the Giants.  There were more Cub fans in the stands at the end of the game than Giant's fans.  Your storms came right over Columbus.  Please be more careful and get them into Michigan where they belong.

Chief, I got an E mail from a friend from North Carolina today re Bar-B-Q.  He said it would cost about $50 to ship two pounds to Southern California.  I guess 2nd day delivery by Fedex is expensive.  Anyway, I think I'll hold off for a while until I get desparate.  I might go home this year and I'll hit it when I get there.  Meanwhile I think I will spend my shipping bucks for my brother to ship me some fresh fish from the Chesapeake Bay.  He is a big time fisherman back there.  Thanks, Ray

Laugh [(-D] - Jack, you had me at Sam Adams!  Just turn on your beacon and we'll pick you up on the way to Brent's house!  Doug, you are already on the screen!  Anybody else want a ride, just turn on your revolving beacon and we'll home in on it Wink [;)]

Big storm hitting and just had lightning outside, so running on battery for a little bit.  Had a good talk with RT this afternoon right after I got home, sounds like things are going great!  No world problems solved, but good fun.

Chief Thumbs Up [tup]  Good work.  Hope that Pro Mariner kicks in your paycheck, that's not right!

Don, I had to take bathes in a pool at an apartment complex for a week once.  This was in late Summer, about 25 years ago.  They needed to fix my tub and didn't get around to it.  Well, I would get up in the morning, take a dip (wearing a swim suit), then do shampoo etc and then dive back in!  One morning, one of the workers there came along as I was rinsing off and asked me what I thought I was doing?  Hey, when I got home from work my tub/shower was fixed - it was a miracle!  Laugh [(-D]

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s but storms courtesy of Doug M and Sir James are headed our way.  We took Lucas to orientation and he seems much more comfortable with the whole school idea.  We'll see how he feels after he endures that battle known as registration tomorrow, which as anyone who has experienced it knows, gives you a real feeling for how bureaucracy operates.   It was a long day.  I had bran muffins and cereal for breakfast on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

PS  Jefelectric, the Indiana Railroad runs thru Bloomington, IN.  There is a book by the Indiana Press on the history of the road.  I highly recommend it.  Chief, congrats on your win.  Brent, enjoy the peace and quiet.  Fire up the Tardis, guys, and I'll have that Hoosier specialty, pork tenderloin, ready to greet all of you.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

GOOD EVENING ALL

Well sometimes things go right, the rain stayed south of Detroit and was rolling through Ohio last time I looked..Brutus says they are getting a storm now so we will wait and see where that one goes. I did spend a little time doing repairs on my purchase and we went to sons house for a while this evening. Brutus is sending me mail so I will close for now..Lite the fuse and lets go get the guys and Emma P....S.J.

EDIT- I received and forwarded a message about the new dollar coin but I do not know who I sent it to, anyway I just received mail from a friend who says the inscription is on the edge of the coin. I really don't know as I have not seen one.

Evening all from rainy Southern Ohio,Right now having some real thunder storms.  Earlier today I had the truck out and where I had been hauling dirt the drain holes plugged and I had 2" of standing water in the bed.

Jack- I would dress the part provided the suit, boat, car and flamingos were included.  I do have a two day stubble, but I hardly look like Don Johnson!

Doug- Hang tough.  I hear you and can sympathize.  Some of the "music" today negatively effects my normal gentle disposition.

Buckeye- I agree.  Southern Ohio is beautiful.  I can walk five minutes and be sitting on the Ohio River bank just downstream of the C&O Bridge, and watch the sunset, and do a little cat fishing at the same time.  Ever been to Shawnee Forest west of Portsmouth?  Beautiful!!!

Brent- Enjoy the vacation.

Scored a couple of train related items today.  While at the local (and only) shop with train stuff, I bought a 740 Handcar and a hand full of track clips.  Took it apart, cleaned and lubed and it runs great.  Also won a die cast biplane on eBay that comemorates American Flyers, it says Ride on two rails fly on two wings.  I may try and suspend it over the layout.

All take care and may God bless

Evening all.  Guess what?  Forgot to log on to any forums this AM.  Phone calls about yesterday's meeting and vote.  Then TWC guy came and worked for an hour and a half on HD problem.  He left and 30 minutes later, same thing.  Sent email to TWC.  Town Manager, two contractor guys, our engineer and Rec. Director walked the woods in the park across the street [some almost jungle like].  We were seeing how many ticks we could round up.  No, phase two of park is trail around the whole outer edge of the park.  Now trail will be 1 1/2 miles long.  Then back to Town Hall.  TWC guys called and came back.  Box did the same with him.  We traded out boxes for a different model.  Working good now.  Then left and weedeated pond bank and then all of the trim here.  Finished water was dripping out of my had brim.  Came in and wife helped pull off shirt.  Held it up and water started dripping out of it.  Showered and put clothes in washer.  Then ate dinner.  Now resting and watching TV.  Got a light shower of rain a few minutes ago.  Tomorrow, mow is only thing on schedule.  Did get a scale MTH long propane tank car by FEDX.  Got it off of Choochoo.  $22 and box had $44 on it.

Later.

Chief,

Not sure what your HD problem is, but if it's pixelation or certain lost channels, it might be water in the line.  I went through this over the winter.  TWC sent out the ground crew.  He put the HD converter box in service mode, which tells him dB loss for each channel, and he saw that a couple of mine were really high.  They replaced the drop to the  house, which did nothing.  Then they went to my distribution area in the basement and proceeded to reterminate every cable in my house with a new F-fitting.  No fix.  Then he tries to tell me that it's the wiring in my walls.  I ask him why all of my TVs with HD have the same problem, and he can't answer.  I ask him to check at the "post" outside, which is a splitter for me and my neighbors.  He checks the signal and it's low on the feeder side of the splitter.  He get's the big plant cable boys out the next day and they find water in some plant cable way up the road.  They had 3 big trucks working on it for a couple of hours, but they got it fixed and it's been perfect since.  I swear my internet is better too.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cloudy 70 degrees. Going up to 78 today, with a chance of more rain. Big storms last night. Lots of lightening. Thunder. Too much rain.

Today is the usual ride to Cambridge for groceries. Gas in higher here yet. $4.09 a gallon. It was $3.89 up there, a few days ago. Not doing much driving, anymore.

Later, I plan on running trains. Need to do some dusting again.

Dining car is here and it's time for breakfast. Be back later.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

HI GIZ,

71 and MUGUGLY this morning.  Absolutly NO AIR MOVEMENT at 545 this morning.  At 610 went for a 4.25 run labored through it but its done.  Now it looks like rain is a coming, shoulda stayed in bed til  now at least there is a bit of  a breeze now.  Oh well.

Had a nice talk with RT yesterday afternoon.  Talked about an hour about train stuff.  Thanks RT, sometimes you need to do a nice conversation to get the ball moving on the train tracks again.  Might go down and work some on the layout if it starts to rain?

BRUTUS, Fire up DA TARDIS I'll have the beacon on and ready to go.  OLD MILs are already on ICE.

DOUG, STEVE DA BEAR loves all kinds o beer.  Told me that there is no such thing as a bad beer, just different grades of GOOD!

DON, OUCH, next time we'll put the blinders on, not a pretty sight.  But at least the water was warmer?

Morning all. A beautiful cloudless sunny day here in Chicago. Too bad I have a day 'o meetings. Well, I'll look forward to the Tardis pick-up tonight. I will bring deep-dish pizza, bratwurst, and a keg of Old Style.

Buckeye, I hope someday to ride the streetcars in San Francisco! Do you have any photos? We passed an Indiana RR yard near Indianapolis - certainly a colorful group of motive power. Interesting to contrast them with the Indiana and Kentucky RR engines in their yard by I-65 just north of Louisville. Thought of you as our neighbor to the north, the state of Wisconsin, just announced the demolition of more dams to open up waterways and deal with all the flooding they've experienced this year.

Speaking of flooding, we haven't heard from our favorite presidential candidate from Iowa, Jon - maybe he's out campaigning on his motorcycle.

John, I appreciate the experience of those of you who have 'gone before me' with kids in the teen years.

Don, I heard terrible things about Wanted. Saw the Indiana Jones movie last week -it was just so-so. The Wall-E movie looks better. With our youngest, I guess I see mostly animated ones.

Good Morning to All

The air feels heavy this morning, but only going to low 80s today. I have no plans except our church picnic at a local park this evening. The church is losing members as families lose their jobs and homes. Having to move elsewhere for work. Reg. gas is $4.15/$4.19,bread and eggs  varys but on average about $1.69, and so it goes. I look for sales but don't run around as that just takes away from what was saved. Everyone enjoy their day....S.J.

Morning.  Been goofing off.  Now getting ready for lunch with Town Manager.  Waiting for grass to dry off.  Might not.  Wes, thanks for tips.  Seems the new box is working.  They have done all grades of tests and signals are great.  Guy was on the pole yesterday and all OK.  Hope this box [an earlier model, newer ones are giving trouble] works.  Have a good one.  Later

Mornin' Fellas.

Couldn't sleep last night after the fellas headed back home, so I grabbed a 32oz mason jar glass from the cabinet, the Cavalier Antiguan Rum, Ice, Orange Juice, Pineapple and juice, and poured it all into a blender (minus the mason jar glass). Whipped up a nice refreshing, and knock-you-out-quick, drink. Slept like a 15 year old coon hound, or 20 lb black cat (take your pick)! Thumbs Up [tup]

Didn't get a lick of anything done last night as I have found driving a car w/o A/C in 92 degree weather for 1.5 hours really saps the energy. Have to discuss this with Susie-Q when she returns home tonight as I can't afford to not get any work done when I get home from work if we are having friends over in two weeks.

RT - That Chessie set... is it the Chessie Diesel Freight? If so then you will be mighty happy with it, and I would suggest trying to get your hands on the Legacy GP30... they look awesome together!

6945 (Lead engine) is the TMCC version, 3044 (second engine) is the Legacy Version.

Oh..the bad HD converter box...those do exist.  I have had bad Explorer boxes and bad Passport models...usually just the ones with DVR built in.  Both HD and standard.  The newest passport with the newest operating software has been pretty stable lately.

Morning All

Sorry about last night, didn't mean to scare you all.  I was looking for the flashing lights didn't see them, you surprised me.  I probably shouldn't have ate so much pizza, but Chicago Style deep dish, couldn't ignore.

Expected to get my teather in the mail yesterday, didn't h appen.  Hoped to get that engine repaired last night, cause will need it tomorrow.  And, of course tonight is water heater night.  Well priorites as they are, might be able to get the water heater done this weekend.

Finished making all the markers for the clubs layout, will need them for the operating session tomorrow.  Also have some Train Make-Up Cards done.  Each card will have the location of the various cars and there destination requirement.  The operator will have to make up the train then distribute the cars.

Wife and Chris got in to see Spamalot in Vegas, then did the Forum Shops, Downtown Experience and checking out other tourist areas.  Expect them back tonight.
