Jack, We call a hammer a 'Stockport Screwdriver'.
I did smoke on and off for a number of years, realised if I wanted to live long enough to be bloody nuisance, I decided to give up and have thrived most of the time since. When I see a poor person smoking it saddens me that our educational system has failed to get across the hell that these poor souls have coming their way.
Have a good 4th you all.
Smileys on the dodge again-sorry......

Good afternoon all,
It is cloudy and rainy in SE Indiana, but the rain held off long enough to get the parade in this morning. Wife and I are going to see "Hancock" this afternoon. Fife, prayers going out to your family. Kpolak, I remember Sam Posey and I may read his book sometime. He was a better commentator than driver, at least at Indy. Manning 10th quick in first practice at Watkins Glen for AJ, Danica 17th. I switched cereals while on vacation in the dining car for breakfast. Will run standard gauge upstairs tonight. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Prayers for your family Fifedog.
Oh, hey - welcome back Kurt! I read your post but was tired and it didn't sink in that you were back I've been sort of feeling sick all morning and now my wife is sick too. Mom called and set a time for dinner, so now I think we will just go over around 4, stay through dinner, and come home early before dark so we can be here with Chewy for the annual ordeal. Just got home from some grocery shopping and taking it easy for a little while.
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Happy 4th of July Friends and Patriots
Did the "shopping" for tonights fireworks at the river, also go tsome things for tomorrows in house project for the mrs. Hope to get time to go bike shopping. Yesterday's "day off" was an emergency call in for a delivery. Some problems on the vehicle only i could fix, so I'll take another half day on Tuesday when the princess arrives home.
Fife - prayers to you, hope everything turns in the right direction soon...
Welcome home Kurt...good to have ya back
A big shout out to our protectors of freedom here and abroad..thanks!
And to my fellow firefighters and them guys in "blue", thanks for your services!!
Have a safe day and we'll see ya later!
I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.I am the venom in your skin --- Breaking Benjamin
Somehow I managed to come home from the store with a new bass guitar and amp for the middle boy - well, it's cheaper than therapy. ;)
Filled, tossed and got hit by water balloons this afternoon.
Doug Murphy 'We few, we happy few, we band of brothers...' Henry V.
Happy Fourth everyone.
Not much going on here.
cool and rainy here.
Hope you guys had a wonderful Independence Day. The sincerest thank you to all of the men and women of our armed forces, past and present, who have secured and preserved the freedoms we sometimes take for granted.
My prayers Fife for you and your family that you weather the storm and come out stronger for it. Faith, brother.
Jack
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Good Morning from Southern Ohio,
The Bride and I are home from vacation. I have not started to catch up on the pot, but I hope and pray all finds you well. I have to work today so I'll check in later.
May God bless

Ahhhh wonderful memories you will have! Did you teach him Smoke on the Water yet? At least he didn't want drums. You know there are amps with headphones.
Brutus: Payers for your family's health.
Wall-E today with 3-yo. Most of the storm clean-up is done and grass is cut. Neighbors in all directions had $$$ fireworks. Great to see from a distance. Switched 1-yo to bed from crib. Screaming at 2:00, and at 7:00. Did check on her at 11:00, and she was sleeping with both feet on the ground, and head in bed.
Kurt
Mornin' boys. Overcast w/80% chance of thunderboomers all day in the Mid-Atlantic region. Looks like central Virginia getting the worst of it. Wanted to chill under the beach umbrella all day, but that's not looking good. The littlest princess and I are going to an antique & collectible toy show in a little bit. Owe her something nice after being so good last week.
Thanks for the "lift ups"...
Good morning y'all,
We had the whole fam damily and a few favorites over for the 4th.
Cleaning the deck furniture in the pre-bash morning rain.....I swear it's the last time I'm going to proctastinate. Went to get coolers, already cleaned and packed away.....discovered some MIA. Last seen when son "borrowed" them for a camping trip, received the classic "dunno" when I asked him where they were.
Way too much food: burgers and dogs, of course, with chops, steak tips, and fish......the rest of the fare is too long to list. Kiddies had a blast in the kiddie pool. A depth of 30 inches and diameter of 15 feet must seem like an Olympic sized pool to 4 year olds. The evening forecasted rains failed to materialize. Like many of you, nearby neighbors were going nuts with the fireworks.
Then we moved inside to watch the Boston Pops and the fireworks on HD/Surround. There was zippo wind downtown and the air so heavy that the usually brilliant display was tempered by the hanging heavy smoke. As a result, the main camera angle was a poor choice, the ancillary camera views were much better. A lot of crazies began assembling for the show over 24 hours in advance and camped out in the t-storms overnight of the 3rd to get the prime Esplanade locations. Yup, music with the fireworks. 500,000 was the crowd estimate....pity the folks trying to get home after that one. Probably still stuck in traffic.
I think I'll continue some cleanup around here as wifey still staring at the inside of her eyelids.
Later,
Morning all. Hope everyone had a safe 4th.
Fife, said a prayer for you and family.
I hear some stirring in the bedroom and expect the wife and kids to appear at any moment. Was a nice night, but I question the common sense of some "educated" folks. Had some in bare feet with their kids (also in bare feet) walking around with these new sparkler deals that shoot out the sparkles out the end. One kid stepped on a hot ember and quickly exited the scene. Our kids were tucked away in the chair next to mommy and knew better than to get involved.
Mother in law is on her way here. I have a blueberry cobbler to make and get the grill fired up for another celebration of my son's birthday. Kids make out like crazy in that the distance for all the relatives involved makes for several birthday parties and it seems each grand parent tries to outdo the other. Needless to say, we have more than enough toys....can you say "Goodwill"?
Chief, I am sure you discharged your mayoral duties in the finest fashion over these past few days. I have not been able to keep up with the pot, but did you have any parades or fireworks displays to officiate?
Well, hope everyone has a great weekend and a wonderful week ahead.
God Bless,
Dennis

Morning all worked 12 hours yesterday so by time got home just wanted to relax. Supose to work 12 tomorrow also so I'm taking it easy today but wife wants me to change some plugs out here seeing we have alluminum wiring and they have regualr outlets in this house so I've been switching to atc outlets and switches little by little to make her feel better.
Fife prayers out for your family and as brent stated not sure what (DIF) is but hope for the best for you all.
Okay I'm thinking I'am going to get an engine or 2 switched to command control. The first will be my U36B southerns ( don't know if I can put it all in power unit or will need to do a tether to the non power unit but figure I would send it to Electric rail road and let them do the first one anyway. After that not sure which engine I would do using the southern as a guide ( lol ) Probaly my Virginian by williams the Trainmaster engine. Next will need to look into getting a command control set up or would it be better to get legacey so I would have it?
All this OT might as well do a couple of up grades so when I build this layout I have it right the first time lol.

Morning all. Beautiful day here - today is our parade and fireworks. They've changed everything this year - the town's festival site, parade route and fireworks location - so I'll be doing some experimenting to see how best to get in and then back home. I cannot believe the size of some 'home' fireworks I saw last night - we ran the 'magic fan' in our youngest's bedroom to temper the sound of the larger explosions. The dog did surprisingly well this year so far.
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a muggy and overcast 60 degrees. No rain yet. Going up to 80 today with , hopefully, no more rain. Ground is like a sponge.
Today is less busy. I have some paperwork to do and a few things around the house. Will run trains this afternoon. Take it easy. No fireworks last night from the fairgrounds. Maybe tonite. They had a big display last weekend.
Dining car has been here and breakfast was served. Then, it was off to all " Points West ".
Buckeye..Is flying home today. Suitcases packed with bottles of wine.
Y'all have a great Saturday.
Chuck
GOOD MORNING
Happy day after. Tired this AM, we spent the afternoon with family and friends sharing burnt offerings. My neighbor did not run out of fireworks till 11:30,there was a lot more around but not as close so when they got done I was able to go to bed. We have a sunny day going to low 80s, same tomorrow then sct. storms start the new week. I did get to run a couple of trains in the past day or two, everything is working like it should so all is well.
Enjoy your weekend....S.J.
Morning all. Big storms came through exactly after the fireworks in the park. Thousands of people [yes thousands] sitting in traffic ofr over an hour in front of my house in the pouring rain and lightning. Some folks did not leave my house until it slacked off.
Fife, you got them coming your way. God bless.
Off to Miss Edna's for a visit. In a rush.
God bless TCA 05-58541 Benefactor Member of the NRA, Member of the American Legion, Retired Boss Hog of Roseyville , KC&D Qualified
Well, back from show and scooped up a MATCHBOX 1930 AHRENS Fox Fire Engine, complete with 1:43 Santa riding on top ($7), and a false front gas station w/Harley ($2). The fire truck will bring up the rear of this year's VETERAN'S DAY parade.
Princess scored a Barbie mermaid, and a Barbie Rapunzel (which we just spent 30 mins "rescuing" from its box!!!).
HI GIZ,
Damp muggy day here today. Got my SOCOM last nite, a real beauty. Going to go shoot on Monday at gun club which is only 3 miles away. Can't wait.
JACK last nite I too and the wife watched the Boston POPS fireworks display. Was ok but their signiture 1812 overture they didn't do, BUMMER! They showed a little in the begining but didn't do the big finally. What's up with that? Did they forget how to play it?
Not much happening here today.

Greetings, ya'll. Hope you have recuperated sufficiently from yesterday's festivities and are about to fire up the grill again.
Fife....Mattel (I think) makes the Barbie stuff. You need bolt cutters, a surgical grade scalpel, a sabre saw, scissors, and a laser to get the dolls out of the packaging. One has to admit the quality/strength of the packaging materials is quite impregnable. These tools will "cut" your doll extrication and crying child/grandchild time down by about 10 minutes. My granddaughter thinks I'm a very important person now because she insists my daughter brings the dolls over to my place straight from the store for the prisoner release. "Grampy can do it!!!!" It's amazing how heroes are created in the eyes of a child.
An entrepreneur could make a lot of money selling doll extrication kits and schematics about how to go about it. At a shareholders, meeting someone ought to request that the Mattel CEO open one of these suckers on stage, and time him, so he can share in our frustration. Granted, overkill packaging may cut down on shoplifting and shipping damage......but it reminds me of bank robbers who just steal the whole safe because it takes less time than trying to blast it open on the spot with dynamite.
Laz.....the Boston fireworks show that is televised is nationally broadcast, while the pre- fireworks entire concert which includes the complete 1812 Overture is local. We get the same brief Boston Pops/Keith Lockhart Overture lead-in too for the fireworks portion. BTW....the Overture is not an American-inspired (War of 1812) tune but was created by Tchaikivsky to mark the Russians' devastating defeat of Napoleon and the French at the Battle of Borodino in dem daze. The cannons used in the Pops' Overture rendition come from an armory unit in Danvers, MA., about 6 miles from me.
You may have missed the flyover too. The F15 (Eagle) and F16 (Flying Falcon) flyover is conducted jointly by the 104th Fighter Wing (Air National Guard) and the 131st Fighter Squadron....two of the oldest continuing flying units in the US. My wife looked skyward as I was cleaning the deck furniture yesterday and pointed out the jets streaking at low altitude back and forth along the coast between Boston and NH. She asked why they were out and about. "Either they are practicing flyovers for the 4th concert, or we are in a world of hurt. Maybe this deck cleaning is unnecessary." "Shut up and keep cleaning."
The USS Constitution (Old Ironsides) makes it's annual harbor turnaround on the 4th each year, also televised. Oldest operating commissioned naval vessel in the world, 1793 I believe. It is in remarkably good shape after the most recent thorough rennovations. It has a full naval escort when they take it out, presumably to protect it from inebriated and overexuberant boaters and jetskiers.
Add in the festivities in Concord, Lexington, Bunker Hill, and the harbor (Boston Tea Party)....July 4 in the Boston area is incomparable. Hard for a Chicagoan to admit someone does it better. I've got two occupied residential houses within 1/2 mile of my place, built in 1675 and 1672, respectively, and another about 2 miles away built in 1636.
Chief.....you should have set up a grits and beer stand out in front of your house last night to serve the weary motorists stuck in traffic last night. Have the local constabulary situated down the road, nailing the motorists for violating the Roseyville open container laws. Then take proceeds, open a Roseyville toy train museum, and boost tourism.
DougM.....were your (full) beer can and bottle hauling stats "either," or "and" with the beer? That's impressive either way with Thomas, Percy, etc. I can imagine the look I'd get from the wife if she saw me conducting that experiment. "Purely scientific, dear" Next we'll hear someone asking what refrigerant folks are using in their postwar refrigerated box cars.
Buckeye....hope you have better luck transporting wine back from Napa than I did transporting Portuguese "Bang Bang" from Lisbon in a carry on (version of Italian Grapa or our White Lightening). I had two bottles wrapped in golf shirts in my carry on. The bag was on the floor next to me in the boarding area. Carry-on fell over, and one of the bottles broke. Wife observed puddle on the floor and advised me to take the bag to the little boys room for adjustment.
Later guys,

Dougsnotagrump, that is an airplane for OHIZO. They have not caught up with Rosyville and its bi-plane technology.
Weather alert just went off. More storms on the way. Fun at Miss Edna's today. I took bags of squash and cucumbers and picked up Eastern NC pork bar-be-que and slaw sandwiches. Terry's wife had me a jar of her outstanding pickles [from the cucumbers I had been sending her]. Well, chat later.
It's been a few days now since I posted on the coffee pot. Last week I got a broken windshield on way home from doctor by a small pebble kicked up by a truck. Crack spread so went for new windshield this morning. People forgot to order it so I have to come back Monday. I have found a new friend on the Original Norfolk Southern Railway Historical Society. We both exchanged a lot of information about days from the past in rural North Carolina where my Grandparents used to live.
Had a quiet 4th of July here. My town does not allow fireworks. My grown kids chose to spend the day with some of their friends so the wife and I had the place to our selves. Had some precooked baby back pork ribs with corn and baked beans etc. I wish I could have had some of that Eastern North Carolina Bar-B-Q and some water ground corn bread. Chief probably knows what I am talking about.
Been too hot to run my train layout in the garage much. Did have an operating session yesterday morning though. A friend lent me his MTH Pennsylvania A-5 0-4-0 switcher to play with. It has proto 2 with all the bells and whistles. I like to switch a bunch of cars with it. Great fun!
Saw "The Music Man" on TV with Robert Preston and Shirley Jones. "Yankee Doodle" did'nt come on until 11:00 PM. By then I was ready for bed. I have it on tape anyway. I never could figure why a guy who could sing and dance like James Cagney got used in all those gangster movies. Seems like a waste of talent to me.
Best wishes to all and prayers for the sick amoung us. Ray

Especially cooked in what I call corn sticks version. Then have some yellow Eastern NC Bar-be-que slaw and burnswick stew and reddish boiled potates to go along. Then get a combo with deep Southern fried chicken. Will make you slap your MAMA. Lightning getting close. Signing off.
It was cloudy and muggy in SE Indiana, but the temps were not bad. I did the sweeping this morning, ordered some more playground equipment for the kids, mowed the lawn, and took a nap today. Manning is starting eighth tomorrow at the Glen, and some surprising names are starting toward the front as well. The F-1 grid looks interesting as well with Red Bull's Mark Webber starting second and Sebastian Vettel starting eighth ahead of one of the factory Ferraris! Last night I ran the 318E set upstairs. It seemed to run better with an old Lionel KW than a new MTH Z-1000! Watched some of the Boston Pops fireworks on TV as well. I had the usual on the dining car for breakfast this morning. I hope everyone has a good day.
GOOD EVEVING
Tired from a long yesterday. But I did get the grass cut and very little else. I have only heard a few fireworks tonite so I am going to bed and hope it stays quiet. We had good weather today same for tomorrow, around 80. Did not run A/C today just enjoyed summer air in the house. Ate on the lite side today as had enough yesterday, not too much but more than I needed. Banilla with fresh strawberries for those that want to stop in...No train whistles as I hope to be asleep........Nity-nite......S.J.
After days of rain I did get my grass front and back cut
One tomato so far and several sweet peppers.
Anyone out there make 0-36 switches other than atlas???
Magicman/Grayson how is the layout progressing, I am getting close to finnishing the benchwork.
