Howdy.........

Just dropping in to share a few things with you guys........

Got an e-mail from Buckeye..in San Francisco, today. He went to watch a parade and noticed that Chief..wasn't there. Seems that a lot of people were looking for him too.

Met friends for lunch. Had a great time. They drove all day on a motorcycle in the rain. Big yellow rain suits. Headed for SC.

That's the news for now. See ya later,

Good evening all

I'm ready to go but everytime I try to lite the fuse wind blows out the match, may have to find a lighter. It's even harder to lite after a couple root beers. All is well we had a cloudy 73 today with wind of course. I did manage to get the grass trimming done this evening though. No trains ran here today, but my friend got a nice  624 switcher today for a very good price. thats what trips to the train store can do....S.J.

I'm back!

Spent the last five days in the Williamsburg, VA area with daughter and two teen aged grand children. Interesting. The temps bested 100 on two days, others in the high 90s. Special re-inactors weekend with lots of action. Glad I wasn't wearing the heavy clothing that they were wearing. No trains for almost a week - in withdrawal.

Fife, didn't do as well on gas as you did, wife's SUV got exactly 20mpg on the 600 mile trip.  Still better than I get from my pickup.  What did I miss in Vermont?

Mornin' Fellas.

Welcome Back to all the forumites who have been MIA (aka on vacation).

Got some work done on the layout last night. Nothing complete, but got the retaining wall roughed in and the bridge roughed in. I have a feeling I miss measured on the bridge and will have to redo it, we'll see.

Forgot to mention that while I was at the Trainshow on Saturday I found a Lionel Lionmaster Western Maryland Challenger for $590. This will operate on 0-31 curves. Does anyone have this engine or have had this engine? Any thoughts? I was a bit hesitant to purchase it because the guy said it had never been out of the box or on track and never run. It was a beautiful piece and if it is really a good bargain I may consider picking it up (have the guy's phone number).

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a beautiful morning. 58 degrees. Sunny. Going up to 80 today, with sunshine. No rain. That's an improvement.

Today is busy. I have some errands to run and a bunch of little chores to do around the house and yard. Have to do some weeding around the garden. No train time. Spending as much time outside, as I can.

Dining car has rolled in. Now for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 50s early and climbing later to the low 80s.  I trimmed around the yard last night.  I am getting smarter (maybe) as I get older.  The weedeater has one of those "tap-n-go" buttons on the bottom of it to feed out new sections of the spool, and sometimes the assembly comes apart, and I lose the button and/or the spring inside.  I painted some replacement parts a bright yellow to help me find them, and of course last night the apparatus stayed together.  Until I physically get it, I will not brag too much, but I was very successful on eBay last night.  Lucas had a good check-up at the cancer place, and he does not have to go back for six months now, which certainly helps with the wallet as well.  I went to a concert in Second Life as well.  It was pretty good.  Buckeye, have a good trip in San Francisco!  Glad to hear everybody had a good time at the TCA Convention.  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

+HI gIZ,

Nice rain last nite.  Rained about 1.5 hrs and got about 3/8 inch o rain.  Good for da beans and maters.  Ran a nice easy 6 milers this morning just felt great.  Today going to cut back forsithea bushes, cutting them way back.  Speaking of assult rifles I just got mine.  Pick up on the 4th of JULY.  Its a Springfield Armory SOCOM calibered in .308.  Been looking for one for over a year now and finally got it.  Next week me and my BROTHER who also has one will see who is the better shot?  Neat gun lots o fun to shoot.  Looks like a smaller WWII Gerande.  Black synthetic stock.

Good morning all,

I must be getting old.  In the posting earlier, I completely forgot the big news in Greensburg.  They finally opened the new interchange in town with 421 and I-74.  They have been working on it for two years (it was built primarily for the new Honda plant, which is supposed to open soon as well), and now it is ready for vehicles.  There is some landscaping and other details to be done, but at least the lane restrictions are gone.

Keep on training,

Happy Tuesday every one!!! Have been "off the pot" for several days. Madge came through her surgery well as I told you last time I posted. We left town last Wednesday and spent the rest of the week in Daytona Beach being rednecks with Madge's cousins. We ate and drank our way through the weekend and came home Saturday afternnon. Sang How Great Thou Art as a solo in Church Sunday morning. Trains haven't run in almost two weeks. Class again tonight and then maybe some train time. Always fun trying to catch up on all the posts on the Forum when you miss a few days.

Morning all. Sunny and warm here in Chicago - it is the also the annual pre-July 4th fest this week so have streams of tourists walking by all day - asking for a bathroom - I should sell passes. ;) Good news about the Greensburg exit - wasn't open on Sun. when we went by. With Jack's guidance, I wandered western Indiana to avoid the I-65 closure on Sun. too. It was nice driving down country roads with the help of a paper map - not those GPS devices...

Bought a new vacumn last night to replace the one that has apparently died - didn't last but a few years. :(  - everything seems to break at once.Returned a defective guitar amp too. Put the 'legs' on my coaling platforms. I also found some iron pyrite for the K. Polak & Co. trucks.

Remembered this morn that the guys are coming to seal the driveway today. Have to call the cops so I can park overnight on the street. This is a good week to catch up at work - we have a major systems upgrade over this weekend - in the works for two years. Hope everything works on Monday - I've done my part. My class starts tonight so this will be a long day and a late train home full of drunks. Sigh.

Good news about Madge. I love that song, Mel!

Morning all.  Dragging around this AM.  Actually cooked breakfast, ate it and drank coffee while watching hunting on Outdoor Channel.  Cooler out and low humidity.  Mow and spray [did not get to do as rained again yesterday afternoon].  Then maybe take smaller boat to pond and fish as not so hot and humid.  Glad to see Madge is doing so good.  Fifey boy is back in his hootch and safe.  You can never tell when you travel up Nawth.  Now in the South, as Doug M traveled, everyone is so NICE.    Later

Been away from the Pot for 4 days, now suffering the consequences.  Daughter and SIL called Saturday to ask if the kiddie pool was up and ready for 4 yo granddaughter and the 4th cookout at my place.  Reply: "I thought you said you were coming over to set it up."  I pulled the age and senility card.  Works every time.  Pool up and running, with their help.  What's that MikeC said?  Old age and guile will beat youth and speed every time.

Gas at $3.99.  Son borrows car Saturday night, brakes (a brake line) go South in Salem MA. Rather than call for help, son risks driving my car 6 miles home.  "Are you OK????  You could have killed self and others.  You have a cell phone and spend a zillion hours a month on it. Why didn't you call for help?  Forget our/your 20 year old home phone number?   Whose insurance deductible and rates get nailed if you have an accident?  Why do you think we have towing insurance?  Why didn't you drop off car at repair shop .5 miles away on way home and call for a ride?  The car isn't hemorraging on the driveway, is it?"  Then I found the partially empty bottle of brakes fluid, cap not secure, leeching onto car mat (like soda bottles, you never want put the cap on tightly).

For those of you suffering through the school, social, job, and other issues of the younger ones.....cheer up.  The issues that are killing you now with the kids will be skillfully replaced by other issues equally compelling and no less painful.

MikeC.....glad to hear all is well with Lucas.  Makes the other stuff seem trivial by comparison.  Continued prayers that Someone keeps a protective watch over him.

Mel....glad to hear Madge is back to "party" level of recovery.  I wonder if they have any rednecks in Roseyville.

I TOLD you guys throwing that rock through DougM's window to distract him from the train room was a bad idea.  He'll eventually realize we were playing on his layout in his absence and notice we "borrowed" some of his choicer pieces.  Big Smile [:D]  Funny how we didn't have any wrecks the whole time we were playing there, though I was disappointed that the fridge was so poorly stocked.  Brutus and Sir James......the Tardis has more capacity than I thought, got all of us and the train boxes on board.  Was sorry to see Chuck, Buckeye, MikeC, JohnJet and muletrain from Ohio/Indiana/points east got stuck in traffic on the Chicago Skyway, toll collectors kept reading the sign but couldn't figure out what to charge them.  Hazmat crews still cleaning up after Chuck forgot to bring the "bag" to catch the byproducts of mules and hay.  Poor planning, ChuckSmile,Wink, & Grin [swg]  Doug, hope the little one has fully recovered from the vacation grits.

Don and DougDG, SP too......where can one vacation in California?  Seems from the news reports the whole place is on fire, except for Catalina.  By the time they get these wildfires under control, the Western part of the State will look exactly like the Eastern part of the State.  Much damage in Mendocino, Napa, and Sonoma wine countries?  Sad [:(]

Was truly impressed at the reports coming in while guys were on vacation.  They really missed us.  Maybe next time they'll take us with them.

Fife, you need to write a book about the art of subterfuge.  Had to smile when I read Wifey won a raffle, a train raffle of course, and now thinks Lake Champlain and Vermont are Meccas for gambling fun.  Cooljock.....is Fife really that entertaining in person?  Is his "parole officer" as kind and understanding as she seems to be to us?  And Fifey, how did you get Wifey away from gift shops long enough to go play Pirates of the Carribean?  Pirate [oX)]  31 mpg on your trip?  Must be the helium you put in the tires.

Mitch, sounds like the last 5% of the school construction project is harder than the first 95%.  You're on a 60 day clock now.  Watch the Godfather trilogy to get some ideas on how to persuade the burrs under your saddle to get it in gear.  I hear perpetual loud noises like the (still) oversensitive alarm system keep rhodent and insect varmints away from building.  And call Roy to get the name of his defense attorney who specializes capital offense cases for individuals indicted for wacking their construction contractors.  Suggestion for Mitch:  1.)lock alarm contractors in building, 2.) jam cell phone signals, and 3.) set off alarm.  Step 3 may be unnecessary unless they blink or use the restroom.  Call police and fire to let them know not to respond, another false alarm.  Come to their rescue in about the same amount of time it took them to fix the issue.....oh wait, they haven't fixed the issue.  Banged Head [banghead]

Chief......move over, my family would drive a rock insane.  I'm think this Nawthener and this Suthin gent should form an unholy alliance and turn the tables on them all.  To begin, send me grits and recipes which I will serve 10 ways at my July 4th cookout.  They'll never return.  I keep telling myself that the Lord will reward me someday for doing my time here on earth.  Laugh [(-D]  Hope you are feeling better.  If it will make you feel any better, we've been invited to join family up in the NH North Conway/Mt. Washington area for a week in August, wife accepted, THEN I found out a few days later through the back door.  Starts out like this.  "So, Grampy, looking forward to Mt. Washington, Conway Scenic Rail Tours, the Flume Gorge, Echo Lake, etc.?"  "Huh?"  Banged Head [banghead]

Jim/Brutus.....hope the floods around St. Louis are not affecting you.  Placing your house on stilts like they do in the Carribean and with beachfront properties here on Cape Cod may not make your place visually popular with your neighbors, but it will keep the trains safe and dry.  Cool [8D]

Lee....been thinking about you and your new pc.  Mine has been running flawlessly, albeit slow at times (Comcast.....calm down Brent, not a DirecTV discussion yet), then speeds back up for no apparent reason.  Daughter says I have too many defense mechanisms running above and beyond Microsoft and McAfee.  Neighbor had a bunch of stuff sitting at curbside, unsold leftovers from previous day garage/yard sale, free for any passerbys.  Begged me to take a 17" VGA type tube monitor.  Was his Dad's (RIP) with about 50 hours logged, and his preference was to give it a good home.  Looked brand new, cables and all, so I took it.  Finally replaced my 15 year old 14 incher that was acting up.  The bad news is I can now see what you guys really look like in your avatars.  Good news....SPF looking better than ever.

JohnBUK.....another "only in America" story.  Guy in Wilmette IL, upper crust suburb about 12 miles North of Chicago city limits, has home burglarized one night.  Following night, burglars hit home again while he is home and has retired up in bedroom with wife, I believe.  Discharges firearm to protect self.  Gets arrested on the spot by Wilmette's finest for violating local firearms ordinance.  We'll see how this one plays out.

Laz.....ran out of fingers, toes, and tooth counting just the number of engines you have in the photos up on your walls.  If you shoot as well as you golf and fish, don't place any bets with brother.  Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Brent.....sounds like you still might be a few weeks away from resurrecting the "color of water" thread.  Whistling [:-^]  We're ready to "help" in any way we can.  Fife fresh from Vermont and playing pirate.....has some new ideas.  Or Brutus' take on the muddy and raging Old Man River.

Later, ya'll.

Jack

Good Morning All

Its good to read that the travelers are all home safe. It appears our vacation is going to be a family camping trip to Jellystone park in northern Ind. We did this last year at a different camp ground and everyone had a great time. DIL promised to take us to the well known outdoor flea market. Always wanted to go there but never made it.

A sunny morning going to the 80s so some outdoor time is planned, maybe a walk or just sit on the porch and watch the cars go by way over the 25 mph limit. Enjoy your day.    S.J.

Brent, I picked up a used one a few months ago in the D&H livery. It is really one sweet loco even though it is one of the early Oddysey models, a little bit of lurch but not bad. If the lurching gets to where it becomes a real "pain" ERR can install one of their cruise units and STILL keep the wireless tether.

Back from the museum, talk about crowded. It was non-stop wall to wall people from opening til closing. It was not a very co-operative DCS day and in a few cases the TPC's didn't help either. I am pooped, sounds and feels like a "Junk Food Dinner" night. If I don't reclinerize I might drop in again later.

Well after some thought............I made an executive decision about my layout. It will have an outer loop of G surrounding two lionel super O style display layouts such as 255 and 292 layouts and I will try to work in my Flyer and On30 as wellCool [8D] It will still use gargraves track. This arrangement will let me run up to 10 trains and add some accessories for some added action and interest.Big Smile [:D]

But for the time being 5 loops of flat ovals will due till the end of julyThumbs Up [tup] got to make the deadline of end ofJuly before MagicmanWhistling [:-^]

Diet is going well back on food for four weeks and I still lost an even pound, for dinner I had 4 oz of pork ribs 1/2 cup of greenbeans and two very small potatosDinner [dinner]

Good job, Bruce!  Keep up that good work.  I've been cutting down on caffiene and looking into adding more vitamins too.  Someone suggested B-complex and C, but I am One a Day for Men multivitamin and I'm not really sure if it would be a good idea?  I need to print out a bunch of stuff and actually compare numbers, maybe this weekend.  Sir James, the TARDIS is ready to launch, so better get out the bowls and spoons!  Laugh [(-D]

Good Evening everyone.  Is a quiet time as wife is inside reading to kids.  Will head off to be soon.  Have been a bit on the busy side with work.  Even though I am not on call this week, the emergencies have kept me away.

Today is a rather solemn day for me as 20 years ago today, when I worked at the Fire Dept. in NJ, we had a fire and lost 5 firefighters.  Tough to have that happen in front of your eyes and be completely helpless.  Myself and one other guy were able to pull one guy out and he is alive today, but that was nothing compared to the loss.  Sorry, a bit bummed just thinking of it.

On the train front, I "won" a few auctions lately and have a nice Susie Q RS3 coming my way as well as a few box cars.  I really don't need any more, but the price was right.  I do hope to get some train time in, but tomorrow is my son's 6th birthday and we will be celebrating first with FIL and his wife tomorrow, and then again with MIL and her husband on Saturday.  Kid gets about 3-4 parties out of the deal.

Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well.  I have not had the chance to go back the last few days and see what all is going on.
God Bless,

Dennis

From a nutrtionist I found that most people need to get thier vitemins from food as they are better absorbed by the body then a pill which actualy gets flushed out of the body before it has a chance to do any good there are exceptions to this rule best to talk to a doctor or a nutritionist. Also learned something  kinda intersting about milk and high fiber cereals the fiber will latch on to the calcium and carry it on out the bodyWow!! [wow]

Good night all.  Rock, sounds like my wifey poo.  I usually find out that she has told her family we are going to do something just before we have to leave. Banged Head [banghead]  CSXect, a good fiber ceral is GRITS.  Actually will help lower the plaque in your blood.  Vitamins I take every day.  Dr's orders.  Now the med I'm taking that can act funny is a vitamin.  Speaking of it.  Off to take it and eat the apple sause.  Later.

BTW: I think Lionel has not peed in its cornflakes, but pooped in them.  Will not bother me as I have not had time to play trains for days and I still have my TMCC and two CAB1's.  OH WELL.  How about those guys who sold theirs when they got Legacy????

Hey Brutus,

Can I bring my Legacy system along and drop it off at Buckeyes or Chucks?  Then will have them take it over to Lionel for upgrading.  I trust them completely, I have it on good sources that Chuck is not into that new fangled stuff.  I think he uses a 45 turntable and magnifying glass for watching DVD's.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a beautiful day again. 54 degrees and sunny. Going up to 85 today, with lots  of sunshine.

Today is a busy day. Driving up to Cambridge for groceries and gas. It is at $4.07 here. Was about 20 cents cheaper up there. Looks like there is no relief in sight. Prices of food have gone up too. Somebody is getting very rich over this mess.

No time for trains today. Maybe tomorrow.

Don Baker...You are absolutely right. Old 45 player is great for DVDs. After reading the problrm posts on the new fangled ,remote controllers, I am glad I have conventional. " Push the lever forward and the train goes faster. Pull the lever back and the train slows down " That was a quote by a very famous " Tubular Guy ". No stress. Just fun.

Well, the Dining car is here and it's time for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.
