Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Stayed up too late last night with Second Life and reading.  Spent the day picking up the pickup truck, getting the rock climber for the playground set and auxiliary wood, taking care of certain financial activities for Lucas and school, taking a short nap, practicing with "my" soccer girls, constructing the framework for the rock climbing wall, and enjoying the Premier issue of CTT that I received today.  Yes, you read it correctly.  I am now the proud owner of the every issue that CTT ever printed!  I won it a week or so ago on eBay and it arrived today.  I am glad I have it and it will be a treasured part of my toy train collection.  I had the usual fare on the dining car for breakfast.  I hope everyone has a good day.  I agree that the Tardis was much bigger on the inside than the outside.  Some quirk of the Time Lords.  Nice picture, Doug M.!

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Wow, Mike - that's great. I have a weird, much beloved issue #1 of Trains Classics from 1999 and some glorious old house mags of Lionel from the early 40s. I used to have years and years of MR and CTT (the library used to give me their old copies) but I gradually thinned them out...gifting visitors and youngsters.

Beacon is on!

Storm passed Sir James, I think - TARDIS is running and in the lane, 4 x 4!  Old Mill for Laz, Sam Adams, Mug Root Beer (found out Barqs has caffiene) and also some of Don's favorite "JD" brand?  Mike, I think we need to take Brent down to the 43rd level and show him the layout?

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Evenin' All.

Found a surprise package by the front door a little bit ago. Come halloween this guy will look pretty sweet standing tall on the front of a diesel, have to look at my GP's and SD's to see which ones have the widest porches for him to stand on. Hmmm, wonder if I can find a small AGHR lapel pin or badge for his lapel. Wink [;)] I shall let this benefactor remain nameless but if you want a hint reread the previous sentence. Cowboy [C):-)]Big Smile [:D]

Thank you un-named benefactor, it is amazing to find so many with the same warped sense of humour as I have in one place. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Almost forgot, wife and daughter are bringing the munchkin to the museum tomorrow. Grampa packed up Kelton's Thomas & James plus their rolling stock so he can run trains with grampa for awhile tomorrow. That's the easy part, the hard part will be dragging him out of there. Whistling [:-^]Big Smile [:D]

Anybody going to the NMRA Anahiem Convention ? If so and you have signed up for the roadtrips on tuesday the 15th be sure to say hello when the tour visits the "Toy Train Gallery" at the S.D. Model RR Museum.

EVNIN,YA'LL,

Apologies for the earlier venting.  Finally got a break today from the heat wave and 3 days around 90-92.  Last night I was wondering why the humidity level in the house was 62% with the a/c on, sounded a little high to me, especially when the a/c was running so much.  Investigated.  Found 2 windows wide open, one with a box fan blowing in hot air!  Asked around.  But no one did it, of course. Banged Head [banghead]  Must have been the dogs. Whistling [:-^]

Laz....your initial plan was to take out one forsythia bush at a time, then you write you took out 5 in one day, and in the 90 degree heat no less.  Sounds like you fell afoul of the law, and she was on the warpath. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I still can't tell if the California Dreamer has hot water yet, or he is just admiring that thermocouple and his speedo.  Are the neighbors complaining yet?

Is it possible Pro Mariner read the press releases from earlier in the week about a certain Mayor in Roseyville and the whoopin he laid on the "uninformed?" Decided not to mess with you, Chief.  Re the uninformed, isn't it always the way that some folks always know what's best for themselves under the guise it's good for others?  Good for you!

DougM.....the night before trash day, have Brutus Tardis my Dobermans over to your place for an evening.  They are black and rust, impossible to see in the dark.  The dog command is: "Some dudes are coming over to steal the rib eyes I'm saving for you in the fridge."  Chomp chomp.  Vandals history.  We've got pictures of our dogs printed on t-shirts with the caption: "I can get to the edge of my property in under 3 seconds.  Can you?"  Tardis the dogs back, just don't forget to give Brutus the steaks for the return trip to keep the dogs occupied. Take body parts out with the trash.  Problem solved.  Re Chicago Motor Speedway, is that the one out by Aurora or the one in Maywood?

To all those having the "kid" problems.....welcome to the club.  And, haven't you been reading advice in the Pot?  Move and leave no forwarding address.  Big Smile [:D]

Fifey.....lots of vacationing and road trips.  Glad to hear yet someone else is stopping to smell the roses and enjoy life.

Brutus, I used to like A&W root beer, though Barq's is pretty good.  Used to go to an A&W stand in Rib Lake, Wisconsin, about 60 miles north of Northwoods in Wausau.  Every day during summers when I was visiting my grandparents.  Good stuff, even with the caffeine.

Brent....I've got some great Dad stories: "Jack, drop what you are doing and get over to my place to....." Banged Head [banghead]  No auto a/c yet?  Some people pay big bucks for club memberships to go to the sauna.  You've got one built right into your car!  Laugh [(-D]

Stay on top of it, guys.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a beautiful, sunny 62 degrees. Going up  to 86 today, with lots of sunshine.

Today is a less busy day. I think I will take it easy. A few chores to do and one errand to run. Time to relax. Maybe run trains later, when it gets hot.  Grass is all mowed and shopping done. Thank goodness.

Dining car has arrived and it's breakfast time. Usual fare.

Y'all have a great Friday...Buckeye...TGIF

Hi GIZ,

Beauty of a day here at 62 to get to 88.  Low humidity, nice.  Today is day off from workouts and yard work.  Going to shoot SOCOM with BROTHER tis afternoon.

Big news yesterday was I FINALLY WON AT GOLF!  Yeah is me.  Now 1-8!  Gotta win streak going.

JACK, nope wife not on warpath.  Just felt good that day and with it raining and all got to kill two birds with one stone.  Take out forsythias and take a shower all at the same time.  Speaking of which I took out two more forsythias yesterday then pruned a few trees took them all to our recycle center here in the township to get mulched up.

BRUTUS, yes them OL MILs were very tasty last nite TANKS!

TRAIN RELATED, hooked up LEGACY and ran trains for about 20 minutes yesterday.  NO PROBLEMS with the Legacy.  No speed gragh problems, no loss of base problems.  Just good ol Legacy control.  Even had all my engines there.  Thanks again LIONEL.

  Be good or b gone,

laz57

Mornin' Fellas.

Rode, mowed, and trimmed the lawn last night (yes I have to mow it with a riding mower, mow the front hill with a push mower, and weedwack the sucker). Really beginning to enjoy yard work again.

Hope to finish painting the shed this weekend and get the crown molding cut and painted for the master bathroom. If the heat isn't too bad I may even venture into the attic to reroute the wires for the light and fan unit in the toilet room. Then I can patch the hole for the old switch location. I really want these two projects (shed and master bath) completed by next Friday so I have the weekend to work on the layout and clean up the basement.

Need to get the Legacy system disconnected and shipped to Lionel as well. If it is only taking a week turn around then I should be OK if I mail it tomorrow.

Been looking at the display stand I roughed in a while back and just don't like it. Going to remeasure and design something nicer and hopefully light it so you'll be able to see the items better. Hopefully I can get 5 or 6 rows in the display area. Also need to build a long shelf for the B&O wall so I can get the Capital Limited cars and engines on display. This shelf will most likely be the start of the wall layout as well, we'll see.

Have a lunch meeting today with a new company. I've had a 45 min phone interview, a 4.25 hour face-to-face interview, and now they want to do lunch to talk 'benefits' and meet more co-workers. If I don't get an offer from them I'll be very surprised. Really would like to start with them on August 4th. That way I'll only need 1 month of COBRA.

Got a call from Dad last night. He ventured over to the rental property to inspect the gutter work. Says the guy did an excellent job! The house has a double hitch roof and dormers, there are gutters along both lower roof edges and along the dormers, then 1 downspout from the dormer to the lower gutter, and downspouts at each house corner. Guy did it in 1 day, $1580.00 I could have done it myself for 1/2 that but it wouldn't look as good, wouldn't have a warranty, and would have taken me 2 - 2 weekends to get it done, plus gas and tolls for the three trips. Since it is for the rental property its a tax writeoff as well. So worth it IMHO. Still have to get up there and remove the roof over the rear stoop, fill cracks in the stoop foundation, and replace the roof, and install some railings. Depending on cost I may even go ahead and make the stoop a bit larger. Also need to replace the railings on the front porch and the front steps. Think the front railings can wait till next Spring, but the rear work needs to get done as the wood appears to be rotting and I don't want a hazardous situation to arise.

Morning all from Beautiful Southern Ohio

Great weather out.  I got my friends grass cut yesterday.  Took about 4 hours as it was not touched while we were on vacation.  Today our grass and our daughter's with the bum soon to be ex husband.

Working on the layout project. I'm putting the two 586 wayside stations on the layout but I'm making the platform area larger filling in the area between the tracks.  I'll post pic Sunday.

I hopeall has a greatday and may God bless

Morning all. Muggy and warm. Storms all night. Big ones. Off to sir james and Kurt. Just got the middle boy off to camp - what a saga - arguments all morning about how they really don't mean 'don't bring your iPod' - got half-way there and he realized he forgot his lunch. Barely made it. At least he's off. The bride and other kids are off to take the daughter's senior yearbook photo and probably shop dangerously at the big Woodfield mall.

Jack, I'm soon off to Joliet - Chicagoland Motor Speedway is out in the middle of nowhere by the old Arsenal. The track by Midway closed after being remade for auto racing... I like the idea of Tardising your dogs. Rudy the wonder dauschund isn't too much a threat.

Fife, the bride agrees this photo looks like a mug shot - but thought it better than the old one. It's her fault - she took it.

Good Morning

Doug, thats a good mug shot, I can't even see where the numbers ran across the bottom.

Its overcast this morning but 87 expected by afternoon. My wife is home today and I offered to take her grocery shopping for our family camping trip later next week, she said no I'll go the day before. Try to do something nice, can't win. They may not look alike, thankfully, but I believe they all think alike. Guess I will cut the grass later today or tomorrow morning. We have a gr./son birthday party in the afternoon Sat. plus we never know when we will get another storm. I'm still working on the trains I bought, but slowly, no hurry. I too have all the CTTs and many years of MR before them. I have been taking the MR to train shows and giving them away by marking FREE on the cover so they would have a hard time selling them. Also have first issue of Railfan that goes several years before I stopped the sub.

Morning All !

Sounded like a real challenage Jack had editing the wifes document.  Seems it went back to the basic issue of men vs. women, and how things are organized.  No chance of figuring that out!  It took me about 3 years to finally realize, that my wife just wants to know what keys to hit when she has a problem, not how to avoid, and certainly not what she did wrong.  And Brent's issues with his Dad, seems a "E" system may be in order.  Just basic internet connectivity.

BTW the HOT water is great!!!  Did receive a couple of phone calls requesting an encore performance from the neighborhood watch patrol.  But, disappointed the ladies, when I said it just couldn't be done, it was a limited engagement.

Chief Eagles;

Which reminds me.  Neighbor says BIG groundhog under his shed.  For me to get rid of him.

Chief I think you better stick to the Mayoral Stuff, and rescuing the locals from the county politicians.  Reported on the news:

A County woman who was trying to kill mice in her trailer with a gun ended up shooting herself and another person.  Sheriff's officials say the 43-year-old woman pulled out her .44-caliber Magnum revolver after she saw the mice scurrying across the floor of her trailer on Highway 20. But she accidentally dropped the gun, which went off as it struck the floor. The bullet went through the woman's kneecap, bounced off the keys sitting on the belt loop of a 42-year-old man in the trailer and grazed the man's groin before ending up in his coin pocket. Authorities did not release the shooting victims' names. The mice escaped the shooting unharmed.

Doug,  Im confused, I think you said that your bride took the picture, but that image makes you look 18, or is it an older picture?

Had our Operating Session last night.  Went pretty good.  There were 6 of us there, we had train consist cards made up, and each person had to go and pick up his cars from various locations throught out the layout.  The cars where spotted all over the layouts various sidings.  Once the cars were accumulated then you could pick up a caboose.  But the train had to be in the same order as the consist card was, 5 cars in each train.  Then the cars were to be distributed at different locations.  We only got through the first 1/2, picking up the cars.  But everyone seemed to have a good time.

Big HO show in Anahiem this weekend, our club was on there agenda for next week, but apparently they cancelled.  Hmmm, I won't be making it, need to work all weekend, as matter of fact the next 2 1/2 weekends, no time off.  UGH !!

Mornin, ya'll,

Today will be poo patrol and lawn mowing day once the grass is dry enough.  I'm having problems controlling the algae in the kiddie pool, though I've been running the filter and testing the water, keeping the various levels correct.  May use shock and see if that kills the stuff.  May start keeping it covered more, but I wanted to jack the temp for the kiddies.....last time in (Sunday) they turned into popsicles before they turned blue, then came out of the pool and ate blue popsicles.  Cover does not let any light in as it is not a solar cover.

Any advice guys short of taking a water sample into the pool place and dropping another $90 on testing and chemicals?

Chief.....I used to have groundhog problems until I had an electronic fence installed around the the yard, leaving the dog's free to roam anywhere within property line limits.  Groundhogs picked up stakes and moved on first full Spring/Summer/Fall season, as did the Canadian geese, white swan, and Blue Heron.  The groundhogs were pretty resilient and resourceful, frustrated the hawks we have around here.  The snapping turtles and the rabbits are another story.

Don.....limited engagement?  I thought you liked the new funding mechanism for your toy train addiction, ladies stuffing Ben Franklins in the speedo, and your sale of individualized photos with customers, complete with your autograph.

Laz.....I found a way to make these bush extraction projects go smoothly with far less labor intensity.  Spray offending Forsythias with Roundup, wait 2 years, then they pull out easily with the roots already reclaimed underground.  If the roots residue bothers you, bury dog's favorite bone near base, release Fife-o....I mean Fido, and stand clear.

DougM.....apparently your alleged "new" photo has stirred up some skeptics in the crowd.  New is defined as within this decade.  Re Brutus Tardissing my Dobies over to your place to dispatch vandals, may not be necessary. Your Rudy is a dachshund, ranked #1 as most aggressive dog breed in a recent study conducted by Applied Animal Behavior Science in conjuncion with University of PA. researchers.  Data based on survey of 6,000 dog owners.  Dachshunds are notorious for being ferocious Badger and Buckeye hunters. http://www.wmur.com/slideshow/family/16820327/detail.html

Afternoon all from Town Hall.  Had Environmental Services Committee meeting this AM and lunch. Still looks like rain and actually sprinkled a few minutes ago.  Suppose to be fair now. ???  Stopped by Miss Edna's on the way back.  Headed back to the house for some fun.  Trains.  Off to Frankie's tomorrow AM.

Now for a biggie.  This shows how screwed up Lionel is on the Legacy return.  Email [I printed out for Miss Edna] I got and FAX she got said for dealers to ship back their Legacy units.  She called and talked to several persons and was told, "NO."  Sell them and tell the seller to ship them back.  WHAT!!!!  How stupid some folks can be.  Sell a product and then the buyer ships it back.  Plain "DA".

Exit shaking m head in disbelief.  Later

I was wondering about send backs on dealer stock.  Probably not the best way to do it at all.  I can understand that they are probably swamped with enough repairs already to choke a donkey, but I would think that they could have at least told the dealers to send one or two units back at a time until all units have been returned.  Silly.  I'm sure that they have their reasons (I picture one guy working through lunch just trying to stay afloat as UPS keeps dropping off outdated units).  It's even more reason for me to wait before jumping into Lagacy.

Well back from 'lunch' everything went well, should get an offer letter next week. Thumbs Up [tup]

Moving on to a better company, more career opportunities, family atmosphere, friendlier people, etc, etc. Now going to be a 'long' wait for the offer, and an even longer period to get out of here!

Chief,

They might have a couple of reasons for that ..........

- Defers the return shipping cost to the end users.  Spreads that cost out more, and don't have to argue with dealers about reimbursing them for it.  ???????

- Also, accomodates a "scheduling" issue spreading the volume out somewhat.  ???????

- Downside puts "Sales" pitch at a disadvantage to the store level.

- Also, not real good for 1st impression, buy this $300 system, then send it in for repair.

Wonder what they are doing with the Distributor level?   Maybe send OUT a service team ????

WOW that is really a stupid policy on Lionel's part. What they SHOULD have done is a one-for-one exchange with the dealers where they send back 1 unit they get a new unit in return. Then they just put the upgraded units back on the market.

( wife kept reminding me about every 45 minutes today to remember to round the corners) So after I got done waited till she was busy and yelled for her till she came so I could show her I did it Big Smile [:D]

Laugh [(-D] Yeah RT, I think they are trying to tell us something!  They are the -er and we are the -ee!

Storm just went through in about 5 minutes - gotta check radar!  Wife is going to some party (not really - it's a sales deal that the wives do, probably something we don't want or need of course) and then to pick up MiL and 2 nieces from Amtrak station sometime tonight.

Tomorrow I am helping my friend redo his yard with a bobcat and a backhoe.  Should be fun!

TARDIS deliveries, hmmmm....  That might be a good idea?!

Edit: Hey, congrats 88!

After talking to Lionel service last week for an RA we were told to get one from the website, did that, opened and inspected the sets we have in stock, removed the two without silver dots, and sent them out yesterday.  We'll repack them when returned and probably mark the sets as upgraded.

Got my Legacy back today. Sent it last Thurday, Lionel received it Tuesday and they shipped it back Wendsday. Got it Friday. Thats what I call fast service!

And Chief, like Don said, I'm sure Lionel wouldnt want bulk returns of Legacy systems from dealers all of the sudden when they are already trying to upgrade the systems people currently own, and get those done as quick as possible.

Brutus:  Backhoe + Bobcat = Party!  Sounds like great fun!  Careful you don't flip the Bobcat...they can be tippy.  Stop by tonight if there's room.  I'll supply the banilla...sorry we've been experimenting with the Red Zinfidel's so no malted barley and hopps here for a bit.

Sounds like mixed reviews on support for the Legacy.  Good news for you Grayson!

Saw the previews for the new PW series stuff...I think a Hudson is within reach!

Evening folks

My thoughts are the dealers will get to send them back later, after the sold ones are done.

We have a local coney place that says July is hot dog month, so each July the coneys are .99 cents all month. bet you can't guess where we ate today. Well we had a great summer day so I cut the grass, its usually turning brown by now but we just keep getting rain and storms which are forecast for tomorrow again. and the grass keeps growing and staying green. Nothing new with the trains, I've gone through everything I bought and know what needs to be fixed and I think I have everything I need. Ok Kurt has the banilla so lets go....S.J.

I hope that thing has an exhaust fan.

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Finished up installing the rock climbing wall (after a few choice words were said), and then the wife and I went to the Indianapolis Museum of Art for a couple of hours.   Also stopped at Train Express to pick up some standard gauge lockons and curve track.  Ate at Pizza Hut and then picked up a Styxx collection album at Half-Priced Books.  Weather permitting, will mow the yard tomorrow and get the housework done.   Manning was slower than Milka for Nashville race.  Helio and the Princess are on the front row for the race.  I had bacon and English muffins on the dining car for breakfast.  Seems like that would be appropriate fare for the Tardis as well.  Congrats to Brent on the new job, and I agree he needs to go to the 43rd floor of the Tardis to see the layout.  All these hassles with the Legacy makes me glad I stick with conventional control.  I hope everyone (especially the Legacy owners) have a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

HI GIZ,

Great day here today was nice at 86.  Me and BRO went to rifle range at 3PM stayed till 5PM.  SOCOM shoots great.  NO PROBLEMS.  At 50 yards dead on with the peep sites at 100 yards did a few 3 shot bursts and had a nice 4 inch pattern, not to bad with peep sites.  Then for the co de grau shot a coffee cup at 100 yards hit it 3 out o 4 times.  Love this gun.  Shoots real good not to bad on recoil for a .308.  Want to get a better group going at 100 yrds.  I feel optimum distance for me with open site would be about 75-80 yards.

Came home had cook out with wife and dog.  Ate burgers and hot sausages on grill.

Went down and ran trains with 1.2 Legacy and all ran great NO PILE UPs in MILLERSBURG YARDS, tonite.

BRUTUS,  that wasn't the OLD MIL, you were talking aboutShock [:O]?

  B good or B gone,

TGIF

What an interesting week trying to recoup from the Left Coast Trip.  I think I inhaled too much smoke.

I have been having computer problems all week.  I seem to have it back up to speed.

Brent....Congratulations!  Someday I will tell you about the royal screwing I took in 1999 with an employer.  They settled out of court.  Make sure you always work in a good place with good people.

WES.........LUNCH?????  When????

Chuck......After seeing those fires in California, I think the green green grass of home looks real good.   Have the leaves started to change color on Blueberry Hill?
