Hi guys, hot here in St. Louis today.  Chief, that workbench sounds great!  Part of my incentive for working on the basement has been the idea that I will finally have a workshop as well as a layout.  I expect I will alternate working these for years, LOL!  Chuck - I need to mow, but still recuperating from the big dig on Saturday.  Plus, it's really hot!  88 - That sounds like a lot of work, man!  Anjdevil2 - Mystery Men is a great little movie, cheesy good!  Laz, have fun at school man!  What's up with that, work 2 days in the Summer for 2 days in the school year?  Must be a management idea?  Got some Old Mils on the TARDIS... Whistling [:-^]  Men, I haven't flown a kite in years -- I guess since I was a kid!  Hmmm, future project with the kiddos!  Fife, sounds like a cool train ride!  Dennis, hope things even out at work soon!  Mel, I'm glad you weren't seriously hurt!  Be careful, man!  Don, glad you made it through that show, hope the layout progresses nicely.  Hope you had a great day too, Mike.  Jack, good luck with the pool!  SPMan, some jobs it's easier/cheaper in the long run to pay somebody else to do it!  Hope Sir James' doc appointment went well.  Boys, the TARDIS is warmed up (left it out in the sun all day to dry after I had to hose it out following those loop-de-loops) Laugh [(-D]

EDIT:  Oops, forgot to say --  A lady at work gave me an old tyco locomotive and also an old Marx 333 missing the front wheels for starters.  It is in really rough shape.  Her Dad passed and she thought I would like them, which I thought was very nice of her!  I'm not really sure what to do about the HO locomotive.  It's pretty cheesy - no glass in the windows etc.  I'll save the O gauge locomotive for some future project.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good evening everyone.  Easy day as had only one case. Tomorrow will be quite  a day.  Have two big cases following each other.  That should keep me out of trouble for some time.  I hope to have both done by 7pm as tomorrow is voting day in these parts.  Local elections, and one state election to work on.  It is mainly a primary, but most positions are only contested within a single party.  Sheriff and school board are big seats to fill.

Rich, I will be heading up Jersey way next Friday.  Will stay a week in Manasquann, on the beach.  I may try to visit "Island Trains" on Rt.35, but not sure.  I have to see how far of a drive it would be.  Also have a good friend who has a tremendous layout in Bradley Beach.  Let me know if you are going to be up that way during that time frame.

Doug, yeah, I've been in the nose bleed section on camera.  The one that is the toughest is the main floor camera that has to follow the preacher.  If he goes back and forth across the pulpit and constantly changes direction, it can be a challenge.  I told one associate pastor the other night, that if I was going to have to handle camera 1, he would have to stay in one spot!  I was just too tired to keep up.....they kept me on lights.

I did pick up some new items from ChooChoo recently.  Got a JC Penny Susquehanna RS3, brand new, never on rails! and a couple of pieces of rolling stock.  Again, great deals.  I just wish I had time to enjoy them.  Lately, it seems I work, eat, sleep and return to work...no down time.

Brent, as for Maguires, that is the best from my experience.  I have the Mercedes car care package and they use Maguires and recommend we do too.  I am sure if you get the BMW version, it'd be the same stuff.  That reminds me that I really do need to drop the car off to get it detailed.  While I have the stuff, just don't have the time.

Chief, good luck with things tomorrow.  I will keep you in my prayers.

Well, time to hit the sheets.  Hope everyone has a blessed night.

Evening all!! The beacon is on Jim. Not to much happening here. Went to work this am and befor I started went home as was not feeling well this am when I got up and then got sick once I got to work so I figured it was better to go home than stay there and maybe get someone else sick. Started feeling better around 11 ( after I got back up as went back to bed when I got home.

So Jim no loops tonight think thats what did it when you kept doing the loops last night after we all got all that beer and Icecream in us Dead [xx(]

Well I'm supose to get my TMCC items tomorrow and I'm still not even close to starting a layout as I want to paint room first and then put carpet down in it so to help with the noise as I can emeagine even with something under the track but doing bechwork right to hardwood floors the noise would just vibrate right down the legs and across the floor lol. I'm thinking about 30" high for the layout. Have to move some items out of the room also before painting and laying carpet.

I figure I'm probally at least a month before painting and another month before carpet and then I can little by little can start bench work and table top. It going to be accually 8' 9" X 10' 9" with about 3' X 4' area cut out of it at the door entrance to the room

Been thinking in the mean time of setting an oval up on the hardwood floors but need to find a way to keep track from coming apart believe I remeber someone using rubberbands where track meet. Want to be able to hook up the tmcc tomorrow when I get it and try running some of my conventional engines with it as won't have my commannd equiped trqain set for about another month as I'm making payments on it to the hobby shop that my freind owns.

Just watched another good one.  Home Of The Brave.  About soldiers returning home from Iraq and not being able to cope.  You may not agree with the War but it makes you love them.  Starving.  Jello and broth just does not get it.  I need some fried country ham, big biscuits and grits with redeye gravy.  Back to my Gateraid and NO popcorn.

Chief, I will say a prayer that all goes well tomorrow and that you don't get into any trouble with the medical staff that the rest of us guys wouldn't get into ourselves.  BTW, you had me all the way up to the part about the grits with redeye gravy, then my stomach shut down.  Do I even want to know what redeye gravy is, or how it's made?  Didn't think so.  Wink [;)]

GOOD EVENING ALL

RT we will go laid back tonite and then when everyone is feeling good we will kick butt with that thing. You can keep track together with bread ties or wrap masking tape around the rail ties.

Busy day, doc first, then meet train friend for breakfast(thankfully no grits here)Then on to the train store and saw new Lionel 0-8-0 set grade engine, disappointed. body looks good, side rods reminded me of the old scout type, they just don't look right. Saw some of the halloween stuff   and one of the PW A/f sets was still there, boy it looks like new. When I got home the phone message light was going crazy. One female church member died yesterday another today. the one today I told you about a few months ago, got an infection while at the Hospital for a test been going down ever since.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a beautiful, sunny 64 degrees. Going up to 86 today with sunshine all day.

Today is a busy day. I will be mowing grass for a few hours. Need to trim also. Ground is finally drying out from all that rain. Nothing much new here.

Chief...Good luck today.

Dining car is here and it's time for breakfast.

Good Morning from The Heartlands!

Home for a few days after a wonderful week at Lake Okoboji with our family.  We rented a large condo for the week and simply had a great time, our two year old Granddaughter really enjoyed  the beach this year and Grandpa sure enjoyed his morning walks to the playground with her before breakfast, we were the first ones up every day!  I wish we had a home up there but with lots starting at $800,000.00 that's probably not going to happen.  A real bonus to the week was only buying one tank of gas for the trip up & back, however marina gas was outrageous when we rented wave runners and ski boats but worth it.

I'm leaving tomorrow or possibly Thursday for a midwest VTX Rally in LaCrosse, WI through Sunday.  Our youngest son will join me Friday night after work, lots of back road riding in beautiful Wisconsin is scheduled, should be a blast.

The only thing I'm doing in the train room this summer is emptying the dehumidifier tank.  I thought I might work on the layout but it hasn't happened yet.  I LOVE summer and being outside, we need to find a place out west for the winter.  Iowa is truly a wonderful place to live except for January & February and half of March.

Hope everyone is well, I haven't even tried to go back and check the Pot.  It seems like all I do when I'm home is work like a madman so I can leave again which is A OK Big Smile [:D]  It's good to come home for a few days and pay bills and mow and then head out again, wish my wife would learn how to run the riding mower and I could be gone even longer!!!!!!!!

Stay well.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Practiced with "my" soccer girls and spent some practicing as well with the boys team as well.  There has been a change in management (coaches) with the boys team.  I am not sure how it will work out.  Last year the expectations were so high and the disappointment was so great that I had my doubts whether the program would even exist this year.  They had a good turnout in terms of number of kids, but I just wonder who will teach them the skills needed to play.  Went shopping with the wife last night and also did dishes for once.  Been working on other items related to getting Lucas ready for school.  Just too much going on.  Did get some news on another toy train related acquisition.  When it arrives, I will let you all know, for sure.  Chief, good luck on the procedure.  Jim, keep the Tardis warmed up and dry.  I may need it for a trip to the Ohiozo shortly.  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

HI GIZ,

Up early this morning because of these classes.  Ran a nice 4 miles this morning and was perfect at 58 degrees.  Wish it would stay this way all year.  Got last of the forsythias out yesterday and trimmed the holly bushes they were getting over grown, and planted grass where I took out forsythias.  Now class.

BRUTUS, I got the seatbelts ala JETHRO BODINE.  When on the BEVERLY HILLBILLIES they had the airplane business and had wooden benches on board with bailer twine nailed to it for there seat belts.  Sounds good?  will probably need a whole lot more OL MILs?

Mornin' Fellas!

Well pulled the trigger and launched... I'M OUTTA HERE!

Not much to report today. Going to be busy the next two weeks wrapping up little annoying projects.

Chief - Good luck today. Hope everything comes out ok.

Dennis - I looked that the BMW kit when I was at the parts dept last week and compared the ingredients to what I have and it appears to be the same stuff (minus the $40 BMW packaging). Wink [;)] I really like how the cars turned out... except for my front window... Whistling [:-^] Have to redo it when I get home tonight as I could hardly see through the streeks on my way in today due to the Sun hitting it from the front.

Morning all. Supposed to be Sunny and hot in Chicago today. I finished my latest train modeling mag so I can hand it off to my conductor friend on my late night train home. Put one training wheel back on the youngest's bike as he didn't want to try it for fear of falling over. He started t-ball yesterday at the park at the end of our block. Middle boy came back from camp happy to have a redone room. Don't know how happy he'll be taking out 11 bags of garbage (from his room) tonight. Never going to let that happen again. Listening to The Green Valley Line online this morning - a radio drama from 1934 about the operations of a small railroad. Fun stuff. See http://nostagliadigest.com

Good luck Chief.

Doug, I tuned into the nostagliadigest, is there any way you know of to select the show to listen to, or is it necessary to listen to the entire program.

Good Morning from beautiful Southern Ohio

Trying to catch up on posts and it sounds like ever one is really busy too enjoying summer and other activities.

Doug-I know what you mean about the cleaning of a kid's room.  I remember times when it would have been condemned by the health dept.Banged Head [banghead]

Chief-Sounds like a great bench.  That was a lot of work for one day.  I pray for a good outcome for your procedure.

Brent- I might get one car cleaned to the extent you describe but two, no way!Bow [bow]  I use the Maguire's Showroom Glaze also and the buffer is the only way to go.  Have you ever used one of those ball like things for a drill to remove wax?  I've looked at them and wondered if they work well.  It would be great for tight spots around mirrors lamps and the like.

It has been really busy around here.  Started doing some pre-reading for when classes start this September.  One of Practicum in August is to do with the Rites of Christian Funerals.  My assignment is to prepare as the minister for the funeral services of an infant.  On a lighter note, we had the grandkids this weekend.  They as always were a lot of fun.  Some things in the works with eldest daughter and SIL and will need prayers.

May God bless

Jim

Jim,
No I haven't. The problem with using a drill is they tend to be too high speed and this can result in burning of the paint, and or finish. I have a very soft tooth brush that I use for removing wax from gaps and in tight spaces. As for glass I spray glass cleaner on a terry cloth rag and remove the wax ASAP. When I worked at the car dealer they used to have us wax the glass as well, this would result in the windows looking great for test drives and drives home, but after a few days the glass would start to turn color... looked hideous, but you do what you are told when you're 22yo and need the $$$$ for college. I use RainX and RainX washer fluids (bug remover in Spring/Summer/Fall, and deicer in winter). I can drive at highway speeds and not need my wipers! Smile [:)]Cool [8D]

Good afternoon, y'all,

Kiddie pool update, little progress, water chemicals still all balanced but the water is still cloudy, albeit improving.  Perhaps it's time to swap filters again and add more clarifier.  You guys aren't helping me out much here.  Banged Head [banghead]

Dave the carpet cleaner showed up yesterday and began by telling me he couldn't guarantee some stains would come out of wife's new carpeting.  He's the owner with two locations and a bunch of crews, been using his company's services exclusively for 19 years.  But this was the first time he did the cleaning, someone was out sick.  My dead serious response to him was that his guys have gotten out every stain without exception for 19 years of kids, dogs, grandkids, careless houseguests, anything and everything.  Told him if he was that unsure of himself, I would wait until he could call in either  "Jeff or Mike" because they are batting 1.000; and I'm not about to try and explain to wife why this time is different.  He smiled knowingly, then worked his brains out, not to be outdone by the quality work of his staff.

Chief.....hope by the time of this writing you are back in action, none the worse for wear.

Fife.......re your rubber glove comment to Chief, maybe he can start a thread about new uses for the traincams after his escapades today and post video.  Cool [8D]

DougM.....only 11 bags of trash extracted from son's room?  39 gallons each, I hope, or I will be disappointed in him.  Glad to read your comment that it will never happen again.....futile hope springs eternal.  Whistling [:-^]  Young boys need a conveyor belt from the bedroom window to a dumpster.  Be sure to get some pictures of your son's T-ball experience in uniform.  Priceless AND timeless.  Ours are still displayed, if only to start up a conversation with son now 28 about how he got hit in the head with a fly ball daydreaming in right field at the age of 5 and hasn't changed much in the 23 years since.  Laugh [(-D]

Brent....congrats on your decisive decision!  Does this mean we won't be hearing from you as much?  And what about our celebratory gifts you are going to buy us guys for sticking by you through thick and thin?  Re the RainX products, I read somewhere they work great but wreak havoc on wiper blades requiring sooner than normal replacement intervals.  Any truth to that?  Up Nawth the salts, temperature extremes, and assaults of the operator trying to clear snow and ice make wiper replacement an every 6-9 month deal.

MikeC......I have one word of advice for a parent to impart to a son or daughter going off to college: library.  Sudden and total freedom from any supervision is a huge step many kids think that they can handle.  Unfortunately, statistics say more than half don't.  Successful studying, reading, writing, and creative thinking in a dorm room or campus housing is next to impossible with the surrounding distractions and chaos at all times of day or night.  You probably heard all this drivel at orientation, but it is true.

Jim/S-P....conducting funeral services for an infant.  That's got to be the toughest "sell" of faith a minister can encounter.

Jon.....when you get the wife to mow the lawn, let us know how you did it.  I'm 57 and don't see that in the cards for you either.  My wife mowed about 10 square feet of grass just to try out a new mower about 20 years ago, hasn't touched a mower before or since.  Same with the snowblower, about 10 square feet of driveway.  John/J&J seemed to have had some success with wifey mowing his lawn a couple of months ago when he was recuperating from back surgery but has been strangley silent of late.  Homicide by John Deere?

Later,

Jack

Jack
You are correct, I will not be on the board nearly as much.

Gifts? LOL!

Man invented Ice Scrapers for that purpose and expecting your car wipers to move 6 inches of ice and snow always struck me as 'odd'. The BMWs require wipers that you can only get through BMW so they are a bit more expensive but I get 2 years use out mine before having to buy new ones. The RainX actually extends the life of the wiper blades from my experience.

I haven't washed a car in over twenty years, go to the local drive through once or twice a month for £2.50/$5.00. Had the this one five years, still looks OK. After all it's just a tin brolly that rusts away eventually. Petrol/Gas is now $5.50/$11.00 gallon, thank goodness this is not one of your gas guzzlers! This dos 52 mpg.

What's up Chief? Hope what ever it is clears, you really should slow down.

Don't post much these days, nothing much going on here, every ones broke. Went to the local Bandits/ Supermarket this morning, my favourite Goulash has gone up 30% from last week!!! I hope the Arabs are in the same boat. I would make the buggers eat Spam!

Afternoon all.  Well, this AM, no one could say I was full of "it".  Brent, everything came OUT OK. Laugh [(-D]  Dr. said what all already knew.  I am a perfect --- ----. Shock [:O]  Thanks for the well wishes.  This was a follow-up to the scope down the throat and into the tummy.  Last one of these was 3 years ago and was not scheduled for another few years but Ins. Co. wanted both to justify the new tummy meds I take.  It cost them for the tests and now the new meds cost them even more.  Should not have made such a big thing over paying for the meds the Dr. ordered [you might remember I emailed a Legislature member and got meds] and then they would not have had to pay for these tests.

Rock, you are a typical YANKEE.  Don't know redeye gray.  Bet some Yanks [especially those from Ohizo] know redeye gravy.  Wife makes it with the "drippings" left from frying country ham.  She adds coffee instead of water.  Get a big plate of grits and make a hole in them.  Fill that hole with redeye gravy and stir.  UMMM good eating [as Andy would say].  Scramble up some eggs and throw in a some hot biscuits with butter and jam.  Dinner [dinner]Approve [^]

Wife will not let me ride the mower to mow the grass.  So much rain it has to be mowed twice a week.  Says she signed a paper that said I am not suppose to drive for 24 hours.  Driving the mower is including in her book.  Will go run trains.  BTW: ran them last night after the trips to the "john" slowed down.  Upstairs bath is right next door to trainroom anyway.

Town Board tonight.

PS: forgot to tell about the big happening in Rosyville.  Came home and found a package on steps.  It was from CA.  Immediately called the Rosyville Bomb Squad.  They picked the package up with the Police Chief's long handled tongs from his grill, put it in a cooler and took it to the pond area.  They carefully removed it and after hitting it numerous times with big rocks thrown from a distance, it was deemed safe to open.  Otis, thanks for the package.

Sorry Brent, I was unclear.  I meant the damage done during ice and snow removal with an ice scraper/snow brush to first free the wiper arms and blades, as well as the impact of the temperature extremes and road chemicals on the softness and maleability of the rubber blades.

Cleaning the rubber blades with plain soap and water is supposed to keep the blades softer and maleable longer so they flip flop correctly instead of grabbing and skittering across the winsdhield.  It can get pretty expensive swapping out blades a couple times a year.

Indeed, many folks do turn on the wipers without freeing the wipers and clearing off the snow and ice first.  If the wiper motor doesn't burn out first, they then drive around with side and rear windows obliterated and 6 inch chunks of the stuff flying off their roofs and onto your car on the highway.

What do you mean LOL with the celebratory thank you gifts?  Is that what we get for our undying loyalty and support? Sad [:(]

Evening all from beautiful Southern Ohio

Things are progressing on the daughter and SIL front.  Please continue prayers.

Chief-Glad everything came out (including the scope) OK

Brent- I am a big fan of Rain-X too.  Love the stuff.  Just re-did the Civic after this weekends wash.  Seems like the Rain-X makes the windshield easier to scrape off too.  When I park at work anticipateing a frost or snow I will lift the wipers away from the windshield then put them back down after scraping to prevent tearing the wiper off in the ice.

Take care and may God bless

Jim

Hey gang, Whats new? The last three weeks have been crazy around here in sunny Pensacola Fl so I haven't had a chance to post or even keep up with the page. Had my Daughter the Marine home on leave so I had a chance to spend some time with her. Also had a friend and his wife/kids here for the 4th. They hung around here for 10DAYS!!! What was it they say about guests and fish? The one good thing was that their two boys loved the new train layout so it gave me an excuse to hang out in the train room and play. Sure glad everyone is gone now. Nice and quiet. Got the third loop of trains installed on the layout and everyone was right. Three trains are better than two. It sure is loud as heck in that room with all of them running. Can't even hear the wife calling me from downstairs. I was going to put down sound deadener on the platform but think I will go without it now. Hope everyone is doing well and in good health. Have a great week.

Hot in St. Louis and just hanging out with Chewy as wife and daughter are out getting their nails done.  Son is visiting grandparents near KC.  I was going to mow, but knee is still bugging me - makes little popping noises when I get up and just feels really tight.  So, I think I'll let the grass grow another day Wink [;)]  Hope all tests and meds are helping everyone and we are all enjoying our family and friends too.  Welcome back, Jon - sounds like a good trip!  Sir James, I had some chicken and a buscuit for dinner, but left room for sone banilla?  Laz - I think those safety belts will do pert-a-neer fine!  Ooooo-whee!  Laugh [(-D]  Plenty of Old Mils left in the cooler, along with another cooler I found with a skull and crossbones on it?  I think maybe Don left that one behind?  Doug - glad your efforts were appreciated!  Sir James, hope you are feeling better soon with the meds.  Chief, just don't stand in a strong wind, you might start to whistle "Dixie" Laugh [(-D]

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
