Off to bed.  Stayed up later than planned.  Got truck loaded for trip to Frankie's early tomorrow AM.  Takes 45 minutes to get there.  Just finished seeing Things We Lost In The Fire.  Ms. Berry looks good but she sure can act.  Both stars did outstanding [whole cast did].  Was on cable premium channel [one of them].  It is a must see.  Wife was in tears at end.

Brent had a good answer for Lionel and its dealers [swap one for one].  Talked Don B this PM.  He had a good one too.  Dealers send back to distributor, when a large number arrives at distributor Lionel sends tech to distributor and upgrade and distributor ships back.

OH well.  YAWN  Good night all.

Brutus.....when I bought my present home there was no lawn, just weeds.  So the following May I rented a rototiller and went to work.  Wife happy weeds will soon be replaced with grass.

The noise and activity attracted the neighborhood guys. The next time my wife looked out the window there were three guys (including me) drinking beer with a fourth guy operating the rototiller.  The guys took turns.  My wife later told me that only I could turn a backbreaking project into a beerfest while I got out of work and still got the job done.  The cost of the beer was not inconsequential.

Morning all. Found a browser I still had cookied on to be able to post. Cloudy and cool today - big storms all night - sent off eastwards. The first race under the lights at Chicagoland Speedway was a blast - NASCAR sure does pagentry well. Race itself was rather dull - 2 cautions for spin-outs and the lead car was always 1/4 mile ahead of the pack. What a thrill though on a beautiful night. Supposed to rain off -and on all day.  Supposed to thus help bride clean son's room whilst he is at camp - need a backhoe to get at it all. Maybe can fit one in the Tardis.

Jack, Rudy the wonder dauschund is all puffed up this morning after I shared your compliment with him; I'm sure if he had been here instead of the kennel, nothing would've happened. Maybe if he was a full-size dauschund instead of a mini. Maybe I can borrow Laz' new rifle. ;)

Brent, congrats on the job - may the transition be swift.

GOOD MORNING

It's almost a sure thing, grandsons outdoor party will be indoors. Storms and heavy rain forecast for the day, it's already looking like late evening out. I haven't been up long enough to do train things yet, so I will just fade away and say, have a great day.....S.J.

Hello all,

Hot and humid Saturday here.

I wonder how long Lionel will be able to rely on brand loyalty to carry them?  What other item would intelligent people buy, knowing that they would have to send it back to the factory, at their expense, before they could use it? Banged Head [banghead]

Brent, Good luck in your job pursuit.

Good morning all, Kind of humid today which is unusual for Southern California.  It's normally dry heat which is no bargain either when it's over 90.  Saw an ad yesterday in the other O gauge magazine from Lionel.  They are issuing/reissuing or part of PW Celebration I guess, two rare 6464 boxcars.  They are the red lettering Silver Western Pacific and the other one was the solid sheild Rutland car.  I think Lionel is beating this to death.  They always go back to their original method of cranking out just one more F unit and one more 6464 etc. etc.  I for one would like to see more totally new stuff.  Lionel is 20 years too late for me.  I'm out of the collecting game now and just buy trains to run.  None of this stuff has much resale value now compared to the way Original Lionel used to be so I just run em till they drop or I do, whichever comes first.  To me the silver WP car has very little eye appeal.  It was only rare because they did'nt make many. So I don't know what the attraction would be for a repro of this car. I think the all orange Western Pacific with the blue feather is a much prettier car. Ray

Very warm and humid here as well, it tried to rain but evaporated before it hit the ground.

Have to scrounge around and find the funds to get track(Magicman just might beat me if he gets his track soon)

Who in Columbus carries atlas 3-rail O track? Gargraves I got a good start on its just finding the atlas switches and a lionel transfertable that may be a challenge.

Hi guys, well I survived the big DIG today Laugh [(-D]  Got to my friend's house at about 8 and his brother-in-law had brought a Case backhoe and a small Kubata tractor with a bucket on the front.  Jeff's son-in-law was supposed to provide a dump truck, but that deal fell through.  So, the BiL started digging and pretty soon we could see that the retaining wall timbers were mostly rotten.  The back yard backs onto a small alley and the wall was mostly about 8 feet tall and maybe 70 feet long total?  One end was only about 4 feet or so, though.  We found that the yard fill included dumped metal flooring that still had either linoleum or carpet on top.  We filled up a big Home Depot truck with that (all the SiL could find) and he took that to a scrap yard.  It was over 500 pounds and he got about $160 for it.  They would not take the rotten timbers though.  So, we tore the wall apart using the backhoe mostly and used the tractor to take them off to the side of the house and stack them up.  At the end, I think there were 6 of us working and we got done around 3:30.  Forecast called for storms to start around 4 PM, so we beat that.  I'm beat, pete!  I'll post some pics in a little while.

Edit: Oops, my mistake, it was an excavator:

Ventured out last this evening and pulled some weeds and got eaten by mosquitos.

Doug - that new photo is really something!

Sounds like groundhog season is in full swing again in NC.

Don B - thanks for the stuff - check is in the mail Wink [;)]. Sent you an e-mail to confirm delivery.

Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow.

Roy - one neighbor came down to watch us finish up the job today, clearing all the timbers and stacking them up by the house.  I guess he wanted to play, but not enough to break a sweat!  I can't blame him, it was in the high 90's and the asphalt was melting too!

Sir James, I'll set the home device and meet you in a few minutes - hope you don't mind driving tonight?  My knee is killing me!  Luckily I have some Ibuprofen 800 mg and kids to fetch stuff for their broken down old man Laugh [(-D]

Congratulate me! I fixed our washer which stopped working again. It pays to have asked the repair guy about the innards. ;)

Wow, Brutus, those are some serious toys.

Some of you know I enjoy listening to old time radio shows and there's a nice one Saturday afternoons in Chicago -  see the link at http://nonstalgiadigest.com - under Those Were The Days - you can hear it online -- they've begun a great 26 part dramatic series from WXYZ in Detroit from 1934 called The Green Valley Line - all about the operations of a small western rail line at the turn of the last century. It is just great!

Tomorrow I am working a camera at church for the first time in years - I've been the one telling the cameras what to do. Hope I remember how it works...

Brutus, Kubota mini excavators like that one (and even bigger) run $30K and less. Wink [;)]

Neat little machines I say. We have a 1973 Case 580B Backhoe and a 53 HP John Deere tractor, and my uncle's electricity installation company has the Kubota excavator.

Morning!

Brent:  Congratulations on the new Job!  Sorry, I missed the post...needed to backtrack 2- pages, and didn't realize it was final.

Brutus:  Cool toys!  You guys did a lot of damage with relatively little equipment!  Looks great!

Sir James:  Great news about GS party!

Watched a bit of The Good Bad and the Ugly.  Great movie.  With it being hot /humid/rainy, yesterday we were really lazy....Bride and 3-yo played Wii Sims game most of the day.  I finally finished my first scratchbuilt project freight platform.  Photos on Sunday photo fun.  Off to early Church today, and some park time with my girls!

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a very humid 72 degrees. Going up o 82 today with chance of showers later.

Today is a busy day. I have a bunch of small chores to do around the house. Later, I will watch the ballgame.  Indians are doing better for a change. Yesterday, I got about 3 hours of train running time. Felt good. I had one collision that did no damage. Operator error.

Dining car has arrived and it's time for breakfast. Cheerios.

Y'all have a great Sunday.

Morning All (For sure, check the time, esp in Calif.)

Friday Night - A couple of guys from the club came over, we had a blast.  Esp. me, I had a little head start, didn't have time for dinner, so decided to have a Rum & Coke before they arrived.  I drank the whole bottle!  Havn't done that in years!!!

We did have a great time, 3 of us running trains and talking trains for about 3.5 hours!  Wife and son came home, (wife refilled bottle, son thought I was fuzzy.)  Finally got to bed about 1:30, then up at 5:00 to go and work computer show.

Saturday - Boy, that was a long day.  Really hard to get started, for some reason!  Got the booth set up at the show, and was actually busy most of the day.  Worked the show by myself and was exhausted by the time I got home.  Wife thought it was a great to go out for dinner.  Went to Macaroni Grill, and had the Honey Baslamic Chicken, YUM, YUM!  Got home sat down and turned on laptop and fell asleep.

Today, need to check out train room and see how it looks after Friday, then back to computer show today.  Feeling better after getting some sleep, finally.  (Got to stop at the store tonight and buy some coke, don't have any.  Don't need any more rum though, probably have enough for the next 3 years, don't plan on needing any for a long time.)

Hope the rest of you have a good weekend, I think I did.

A beautiful Sunday morning.

Sun is up,I am up,thats a good start. I found more damage to the HO lionel Daylite, it runs but its a goner as far as any value,so it will be offered as is. Just in case some one gets it wrong, my 3 nyquil thing last nite was just funnin,I would never take more than one and only when I have a cold. I thought I would sleep good last nite after being out all afternoon but alas no such luck, from 3am till 730 just napped. I don't think we have plans for today so some train running could be part of my day. Tomorrow after the Dr. visit, off to the train store. I want to see the new lionel el-cheapo 0-8-0. Have a great sunday....S.J.

Morning folks - I'm fine today except my knee which I hurt a week ago is really sore again.  It was about 90 percent healed up before I went to Jeff's, but I just couldn't turn down the chance to put in 9 hours of backbreaking labor in 100 degree heat Laugh [(-D]  Actually, Jeff is a great friend who has done a lot for me and others over the years and there was no way I wasn't showing up to help.  I wish I had had the chance to run the tractor or the excavator, but oh well - it was fun to just be working hard on something with Jeff and the guys.  I promised to come back and help build the new wall - will be a few weekends from now, though.  Also promised to go on a fishing trip in September!  Testosterone!  Laugh [(-D]

Sir James, what's the doc visit for?  Just a check-up?  Nice job flying the TARDIS last night!  I think the guys really enjoyed the loop-de-loops, too!

Chief, what was your project at Frankie's house?  A deck?  I missed that somewhere.  Good luck with your test.

Doug - kuddo's on the washer!

I'm going to just laze around for a few hours.  If I feel a lot better, I might mow the lawn later - at least front and side.  We'll see!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
