In other news, our trainmaster presented me with my student engineer card tonight.  No one will be safe....     Mischief

I think I am safe; it is about a half mile to the nearest railroad track. Big Smile

Congratulations, Larry!Bow

Snow, in New York?  Depends on where you are.  My daughter (Syracuse area) has two feet of the stuff on her deck.  Here in Utica, as well as at my house up north, it's measured in low single digits.  I shovelled about two inches of snow off our platform at the Utica station today.

On the other hand, the eastbound "Lake Shore" usually arrives in Utica with a full complement of snow imported from Buffalo, Syracuse, and the like.

Might want to bundle up, though.  The Old Forge area is reporting sub-zero temperatures already....

Well, it's finally official, After putting things off for a month or more, I go into the hospital for outpatient surgery on Monday. It will be a great relief to be shut of the pain and discomfort that I have endured for the last 6 weeks or more. I have been thru this stuff before, and this is probably the most prolonged event of all.

Another cold night here, around 20 or so, with a small warmup on Saturday.

Everyone have a great evening.

Been another busy afternoon.  Made it back to the P.O. for another book of stamps.  Took the Christmas cards w/me, and put the stamps on them, there at the P>O> and then mailed them.  Went across the street to Kroger and got more wrapping paper.

For supper tonight:  Sloppy Joes, tossed salad and fries.

Everyone have a good evening, take care and see you all tomorrow.

Saw 11 degrees on the instrument earlier this morning.  Paper indicated it could go to 32 today.....If it does, that will be a first for a while.  Mostly sunny since the sun came up, and it's still doing so.

Streets are dry, but the 2" or so on the grassy areas continues.  I note we're seeing the earliest the sun will set for this time in the season now.  About the 15th, the sunset time will tick up one minute.  Then we'll be on our way to see later sunsets until the first day of Summer.   Brrr....that's a way off yet.

Good Thursday morning everyone.  Fair skies and 18 degrees here in Louisville, KY this morning.  Today's high is projected to make it to 38 degrees.  Hmm, can anyone say "Heat Wave"?

Coffee, juice, hot cider, hot chocolate, etc. are fresh and ready to go.

Regular breakfast menu items are on the serving station, which has been cleared and cleaned up from last night.  (Soups have all been thrown out.)

Everyone have a good morning, keep warm and take care.

ED!!  Welcome back to the fold, Buddy!  We haven't seen you in here for a lonnng time.  It's good to see you back.  Hope you'll be able to visit us a little bit more often.  How's everyone doing?  Guess little grandchild is growing like a weed, right?

Since no one had any suggestions for the remaining meals, here's what is on the serving station:

1.  Vegetable beef soup w/cornbread  and grilled cheese sandwiches

2.  Potato soup

3.  Cream of broccoli soup

Went to the P.O. this afternoon, got two books of stamps; wasn't quite enough.  Gonna have to go back tomorrow and pick up another book of stamps, to get the rest of the cards out.

 Mookie:
I want a ride to the North Pole.  Can you arrange one?  Shy

I might be able to pull that off, even though the trips are all sold out.

You'd have to get to Utica first, though...

Good Wednesday morning everyone.  Mookie, hope you enjoyed your b-day yesterday to the fullest!

Partly cloudy skies here in Louisville this morning, with a temp of 14 degrees.  Supposed to get up into the upperr 20s.  Our official high yesterday was 30 degrees.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider, etc. are fresh and on the serving station.  Regular breakfast menu is also ready.

Does anyone have an idea for me for our meals after breakfast for today?  If so, please let me know.

Have a good morning, and I'll be popping back in in a little bit.

Tree - had to smile at the trash collection day.  We are 2 days of the week - M and R and the neighbors across the street are T-Sa.  Wed is the only day I am sure of - it is quiet at 7am.

I want a ride to the North Pole.  Can you arrange one?  Shy

Gee, wish I could lose track of what day of the week it is!

One constant - Wednesday is trash day...

Got the decorations up on the house and the fire station.  Time to finish getting things lined up for workin' on the railroad for the next three days.

Wednesday on the Polar Express will be trying - only two T&E on the train, plus the engineers (hopefully there will be car hosts!), and I'm one of them.  I predict a one-man class one brake test...

The riders, however, won't notice the difference and will enjoy their magical trip to the North Pole.

Mookie and everyone, here's tonight's supper menu:

Broiled ribeye steaks, baked taters w/sour cream and/or butter, sauteed mushooms & onion, broccoli w/cheese sauce, tossed salad and Italian bread sticks.

The big, big, big chocolate cake w/raspberry filling and chocolate icing has been rolled in on the fork lift, and is ready for Mooks to blow out the candle and cut the cake.  If anyone wants ice cream, plenty of flavors to chose from, too!

Once again, Mookie, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!  Hope it's been a very good one for you!

Thank you all for the birthday wishes.  It is a true milestone each and every year.  That's because it is the day I address and mail xmas cards and then sit and wait to be waited on.

Well, one out of two ain't bad.  Mailed the cards earlier.

Being retired, there is only one constant in our household.  We never know what day or date it is.  If the calendar doesn't say dr appts this week, we blow off the whole week and don't look again until we turn the page.  We both missed our ann. and I didn't remember Pearl Harbor Day today until I read a small blurb in the paper.

Duh.

Nice day.  No wind.  However, it is still cold.  Still December.  Still no violets in the lawn.  Crud!

Since I don't post on the the Railroad Happenings thread any more, I'll post this on here for today:

1993A gunman opened fire on a Long Island Rail Road commuter train, killing six people and wounding 17. (Colin Ferguson was later sentenced to a minimum of 200 years in prison.)

Here is the lunch selection Mookie requested:

Club sandwiches w/ curly fries.

We'll hold off on presenting the cake until later this afternoon, early evening, when I post the supper/dinner menu.  For now, though, for lunch time dessert, we have yellow cake w/chocolate Cool Whip for the frosting.

Very, very cold outside.  I stayed in our entry hall this morning, and let the people come up to the door to have their names put on the list for Produce.  We only had 41 people today.  On the truck today:  broccoli, baby spinach, apples, large bags of salad mix, and 5# bags of potatoes.

Mookie and everyone, enjoy your lunch and have a very good afternoon.  Think I'm going to try to take a short nap.

Wishing a Happy Natal Day to Madam La Mook!  CW probably needed the forklift for the cake (chocolate), too!

Snowing here, with more to come.  Looks to be 4-6" of light, fluffy stuff.  Guess it's time to dig the snowblower out of the garage...  I just hope it backs off for my drive to Utica tomorrow, although snow certainly helps set the scene at the "North Pole."

Speaking of the North Pole - here's a night cell phone shot of North Pole Station:

Gotta go shovel.  And put up the Christmas decorations.

Tom, just think of the original name for the bowl game played in Atlanta: the Peach Bowl; do your chickens like peaches? May your boys bring a few tomahawks (and scalps?) back home after their next trip to Atlanta.

Some other name changes--the Bluebonnet Bowl is now called the "Alamo Bowl;" the Tangerine Bowl was the "Florida Citrus Bowl" for a while (and there was an ersatz "Tangerine Bowl," played earlier in Orlando for a few years), then it was renamed "Tangerine," and now it is known as "Capital One"--which bears no connection at all to the area.

Other strange names: Beef O'Brady's Bowl, Champs Sports Bowl (successor to the ersatz Tangerine Bowl?), TicketCity Bowl, GoDaddy.com Bowl, BBVACompassQuestion Bowl, Fight Hunger Bowl (do the proceeds from the tickets go to provide food?), Pinstripe Bowl.

Joe, may Ohio State take a few pork chops, a roast or two, and a side of bacon back home (chitlins, too, if they like such).

Mookie, I remember the drake we had for a few years, he seemed meek when he knew you were looking at him, but when you turned your back and walked away, he would follow you with a menacing look in his eye and waddle--until you turned back and then he would say, "What, me intend to harm you?" We never really knew what became of him, but we think that the puppy we had (about half his size) may have done him in; all we found of him was his beak.

Comfortable weather this morning--about thirty degrees with a sprinkle of rain; the sun was out while we were eating lunch but it has hidden its face again.

I have been helping Barbara make fudge today. She has a Christmas list for old friends & former co-workers. For lunch I'll grab some left over roast & make a beef & bean burrito.
