Well, I hope the kids around here had already had their Christmas parties at school:  they won't be back until after the first of the year.  JCPS has called off school for tomorrow, which would have been the last day before the Christmas break.  We still have a lot of ice covered side streets, so they cancelled classes for tomorrow.

I received a message on facebook, from someone for Tom.  He wanted me to let everyone know here, that his surgery is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Friday.  Let's all keep him in our thoughts, for a successful surgery, recovery and being back home.

There's still some soup, chili, and stew for supper tonight, and I made up some more sandwiches, to go with the soup and chili.

Everyone have a good evening, take care and see you all in the mornin'.

Judging by the traffic on the police scanner, the lake effect is in full force in the southern part of the county.  Only getting the occasionally dusting hereabouts.

Joe - congrats on the addition to the extended family!

Wrapping up a pie for the train crew.  Some good sharp cheddar cheese will be a nice counterpoint.

Of course, now I have to do the resulting dishes...

Well, it looks like we (Louisville Metro area) received anywhere from 1/4 in. to 1/2 in. of ice from 10 p.m. Wed. night thru this morning.  Walt went out and put down snow/ice melt just as Sarah was coming in from work a couple of hours ago.  Temp seems to be hovering around the 29 degree F. mark.

I've warmed up the chili, soups and stew from yesterday, and it is on the serving/warmer station.  There's also some sandwich fixings, including PB&J, tuna salad, roast, turkey and pastrami.

Everyone have a safe afternoon, keep warm and take care.

Hi everyone,

Freezing rain here in the Piedmont section of NC, couldn't get out of my driveway for my 8:10 dentist appointment even AFTER salting twice. Called in and found out the dentist isn't there either, so no penalty (I guess).

I'll take the snow over the ice we got in Effingham overnight, may make the drive interesting down to Cherokee, AL.....

Have just been trying to keep everything thawed and moving lately, had ice fog in WI yesterday, which along with the -10 temperature, probably helped cause a major wreck on US41, involving multiple tractor-trailers.  After getting onto state roads, which were still slick, had no trouble.

Back to checking the radar, and figuring out if the salt trucks made it out yet.....

Good Thursday morning, everyone!  Joe, congratulations on the new great nephew.

Welcome  BraddS to The Flat Wheel Cafe/Diner.  Always good to see new people come in.

Here in Louisville this morning, we have a chilly 31 degrees, with freezing rain.  All schools in the area are closed, along with some businesses.

Coffee, juice, hot chocolate, hot cider, and hot water for tea are fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, toast, an assortment of fruit, bagels and bear claws.

Johnny, please keep us updated on Ricki:  sounds like she's doing a little better!

Wonder how Tom is faring this morning.  Hope he is doing better, also!

Everyone be extra careful out there this morning, if you're in this wide belt getting the snow/rain/sleet/freezing rain.  See you all later.

Congrats Joe!

Weather here in central North Carolina is clear and cold, with lows in the single digits above zero. Pretty warm by midwest standards, but of course here it is perceived as record lows...Hope everyone is keeping warm!

Six inches of snow in the front yard this morning, which called for the mechanical snowthrower. The armstrong snowthrower could have taken care of it, but the mechanical one was much faster. Since the snow was mainly powder, the only clogging trouble came in the spots with melted snow at the bottom. The low today was predicted to be 32, with a high of 36.

After getting all cleaned up and such, I went over to the hospital and then was able to go to another hospital where Ricki will get proper exercising and such to make her closer to all new. Thanks for your concern and prayers.

A cold sunny day here in Muncie.  But they are talking about a Winter storm warning.  I've not been home until the past hour to keep track of any serious weather report yet.  Believe southern Indiana is to get more of the snow activity.

Heard them say 2 to 4" of the stuff by tomorrow afternoon.

And last evening I finally had to bite the bullet and see just what I could do to help the performance of this machine.

It's been fighting us for some time...First slowing....than, a pesky "not responding" condition, and that was getting worse....then finally, yesterday I could not get it to boot up.  Just kept cycling, and going thru cycles of "checking hard dr. disks...".

So I finally started on it with a "restore program", and after much work got it thru that.  This morning, had to work with Comcast  to energize our email, and thought I had it configured {with the guidance of Comcast help and support},  and now my email program is visible, but can't bring it up to work with it.  Also, I lost my Service Pack 2 in the Restore process, and I'll have to redo that....also my Norton security has to be unloaded and then reinstalled....

Surprisingly, I got right back on the railroad forms without any trouble.

But seems I have quite a bit to fight thru before we're back where we need to be.

But....the computer is fast now, which it had really slowed before I started this program, etc.....We'll keep trying.

And....To Johnny, we pray for getting Ricki back home when the conditions allow it.

Gee, another very slow day in here.  Everybody (who isn't working) out Christmas shopping?  Well, whatever you're doing, there are some pots of soup, stew and chili on the serving station, staying hot for you all:

1.  Vegetable beef

2.  Cream of broccoli

3.  Tomato

4.  Mild chili

5.  Beef stew

That should help warm you up on a very chilly day like today.

Everything quiet around here, nothing new to report on anything. You all take care and see you all later.

Good Wednesday morning, everyone.  Larry, very sorry to hear about your friend.  It is tough, isn't it?

Johnny, glad to hear that Ricki was feeling a little bit better yesterday.  May she continue to feel a little better each day.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage, oatmeal, toast, bagels and bear claws.

Everyone have a good morning, keep yourselves warm and take care.

Murphy Siding

The first day of Christmas is December 25th- Christmas day.  The 12th day is January 6th.

     -Norris

Norris knows what the traditional Twelve Days of Christmas are. All the days before Christmas are simply preparation for Christmas (and the merchants take as much advantage as they can of those days). In some churches (Episcopal, Lutheran, and Catholic, especially), the four weeks or so before Christmas are celebrated as Advent, in which the First Coming of Christ is celebrated and the Second Coming is looked forward to (there are four Sundays in Advent, and the first Sunday marks the beginning of the season; Advent lasts from 22 to 28 days). Also, many churches celebrate Epiphany on 6 January, to commemorate the coming of the Magi (they did not get to Bethlehem on the Birthday; they found the family in a house and not a stable, so they should not be included in Manger Scenes) and, thus, the manifestation of the Savior of the World to all peoples (Epiphany = showing forth). So, the Twelve Days of Christmas last from 25 December through 5 January.

Personally, thanks to all for your concern about Ricki. She did not move to a rehabiltation place today (paperwork can be time-consuming), but we expect the transfer to be tomorrow morning. She was better today than she was yesterday.

Never got above 16F today.  In fact, the high (according to my home weather station) was 15.9F...

The minimum wind chill overnight was -12.2F.  Brr.  We're getting the occasional flurry, but the lake effect is staying south of us.

CW - I got word the other day that a former sheriff's deputy with whom I had worked after he retired from that position died last Saturday evening of a heart attack.  He was only 52.  It does rather kick one in the gut.

Johnny - Here's hoping for the best for Ricki.  Modern medicine has ways of dealing with such conditions now that didn't exist not so many years ago.

Got the truck serviced, a couple of form letters done for others (I seem to be one of the few around who can manage to do a mail merge).  Now it's time for supper and another meeting...

Afternoon, folks.  Current temp here is 15 degrees F.  Partly cloudy, but sun is shining.  Still colder than a well digger's behind.

I've got lunch on the serving station:  open face roast beef sandwiches w/green beans, mashed taters & gravy, hot biscuits from the oven and hot dinner rolls, so you have your pick of bread.

Kind of down in the dumps right now.  We received a phone call just over an hour ago, saying our dear neighbor, who we called Aunt Sarah has passed away.  She's the one who has had Alzheimer's the past couple of years, and was 94 years young.  I've been expecting it, but it still hits you in the stomach like a concrete block.  She had just returned home the other day, after having had a light heart attack.

Good day, everyone. We had rain all night, and now the skies are clear with a temperature of 37F (3C).

Is this the first day of Christmas, making the 25th the 12th day?
Anyone know how that works?

Smile, Wink & Grin  ~~~ Here in the mtns. it is in the high 70s. and sunny for this week so far. This is good for the utility bill ( ours). Snowbirds en masse  are flocking here.  A good thing when you got that new heating plant this past summer to avoid the rush and delay when you needed it.   Hope you all are warm and dry.

Good Tuesday morning, everyone.  Johnny, glad to hear from you.  I'm sorry to hear about Ricki.  Will be keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers.

We have, this morning, a very cold 8 degrees above zero temp this morning, with a wind chill -1 category.  brrrrrrrrrr!  High today?  Possibly around 20, 21 degrees?

Coffee, juice, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  oatmeal, toast, scrambled eggs, turkey bacon, sausage, biscuits & gravy for those who can have them; along with some bagels and bear claws.

Everyone enjoy, have a good, warm morning and take care.  You all check in, and let us know what your temps/weather is like this morning.

Thanks for the birthday greetings. I don't really feel any older at the three-quarter century mark than I did a few years ago, but I have slowed a little bit. I do feel much better than I did at 71, for I was then beginning to recover from chemotherapy, which had sapped my strength (it did return some color to my hair and beard).

Paula, thanks for the roast and chocolate cake. Justin, I hope you enjoyed the day and the meal, and Mookie did not get your part of the cake.Smile

Tom, I trust all went well with you today, and you are recovering.

As to the events of the day, it was quite different from any other, since Ricki had another ministroke last Thursday, and I took her over to a hospital that afternoon. Saturday, she seemed to be doing well, but just before all was in order to bring her home, she suffered in a way such that no one who has looked at the pictures can really tell what took place; one set shows one thing and another set says "'Tain't so." Tomorrow, she will be moved to a rehabilitation place so she can get the help necessary to be able to help me help her (I hope that makes sense). I did finish mulching the leaves in the backyard and move the snow thrower to where it can be brought out of the toolshed without having to move anything else. Both Ricki's daughters have been giving support, coming to the hospital when they can.

From the thirties to the fifties today, with no precipitation expected before Thursday. Maybe we won't have sufficient snow to warrant power snow throwing (last winter, the only such snow came right after I had come home from my last major surgery, and a neighbor cleared the driveway for us).

Forty-five degrees and an inch of rain yesterday, eleven right now with a 15 MPH wind.  At least the lake effect is pretty much staying south of me.  I did take an inch of snow off the driveway earlier today, but it's not snowing here right now.

The wind chill will certainly get below zero tonight.  Think I'll keep the long johns ready in case we have a call.

Time for bed.  More projects for tomorrow - including finishing up my Christmas cards.

Hmm, is everyone frozen in place this morning?

Anyway, hopefully some of you will be in here, so here goes on the menu for the rest of the day:

Roast, taters, carrots, green beans, corn, your choice of salad or slaw, and your choice of fresh baked made from scratch buttermilk biscuits and beef gravy.

Desserts:  There's a nice, big chocolate cake (non fork lift size, though), wishing Johnny and Justin A Happy Birthday.

We have a current temp of 19 degrees, with a wind chill of 6 or 9 degrees.  (I can't remember exactly which # it is.)

Everyone enjoy the meal, have a good afternoon, keep safe, warm and take care.
