Paula, that sounds like the way my right leg felt when the sciatic nerve fell out. I hope it is not that and will pray for you. A fairly good day here in the South, but completely forgot a quack appointment. I will have to try and reschedule it Monday. Calling for more freezing temps tonght, but no snow.

Everyone take care

Tom

.....Weather people are saying they intend to make it look like Winter here...by tomorrow.  Mid 30's right now with just a few clouds.

Anywhere from 1 to 4" of the white stuff by tomorrow evening when it will be mostly finished.

I'm not looking forward getting into that routine for several months....But it can start anytime now.

Just heard on news that they are "Shoveling off Buffalo".... Blindfold

CW - hyperextension of the leg.  When I rode the bus a lot I had it happen twice.  Those bus steps are made for giants and not short people.  It usually takes several months to start to feel better.  Ice first and then heat later.  I feel for you!

Well, I finally made it back in here.  Been visiting "Bills" this morning, and had to make an apperarnce for another meeting.  Got there, found I out I have to go back next Friday at 4:30!  Two bus rides to the meeting, just to hear that!  (grrrr)

Our regular Friday Fish Fry is now on the serving station.  All kinds of fish, all the regular side dishes and all the regular desserts:  pies, cobblers and cakes.

Did something, don't know exactly what, when I got off the first bus.  All I know is a terrible pain shot down my left leg, from below the tailbone, all the way to me knee.  I'm just glad I had both braces on, as the knee brace certainly kept me standing/walking, albeit very slowly.  Trying to hold off as long as I can before taking a half a pain pill.

It doesn't feel too bad out, as long as the breeze isn't blowing much.  Currently about 41 degrees, and the sun has now decided to be covered by clouds.

Everyone enjoy your lunch/supper, have a good afternoon and take care.  See you all later.

 Mookie:

Wonder if chickens have considered a "hummer ride"?  Hear they are having good sales right now....

Probably still way too much moohlah for the cheapskates back at the mothership to even consider.

Even considering it's cheaper to buy "one good one" than several less capable/durable models?

Good Friday morning, everyone.  A very chilly 32 degrees here in Louisville this morning.  Clouds will be increasing, as the day rolls by, and snow coming in.  Unless there is a big chance in the forecast, by tomorrow morning, our snow total will be .5 to 1 in. of snow.  But by Sunday morning, we could have 1 to 3 inches of snow on the ground.

Coffee, juice, hot cider, hot chocolate and hot water for hot tea are all ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  regular breakfast menu items, including hot oatmeal, grits, cinnamon toast, biscuits & gravy, etc.

Everyone have a good morning, keep warm and take care.  See you all later.

A friend went to the USPO to purchase a stamp to mail a letter to Canada, only to be told that Canada is in Africa or the middle east so the 98 cent stamp is required. Another tried another post office and was advised that Canada is in the far east, bordering China. We need to be proud of our educational system which produces such educated people! End of soapbox.

I forwarded Tom's post to Ricki, calling attention to the above paragraph, and she commented that this is not nearly as surprising as it ought to be.

Bright and sunshiny again today, with freezing rain promised tomorrow.

After reading these last few posts on the U.S. Postal Service I was starting to wonder, since I needed to go to our local branch office today. I had to wait in line for a few moments, couldn't really hear the main conversation, but from what I gathered, the postal clerk told the patron that he couldn't mail from there, he needed to go somewhere else. When I got to the window and he looked at the address on my package, he said; "O Good, that's in state, they should get it tomorrow!"

Mookie, hope your eye dr. appt.  goes/went well.  My dr. appt. was a good one.  Did not have to wait a long time in the waiting room, nor a long time in the exam room!  Maybe I should have taken his temp!!Smile, Wink & Grin  BP was normal, 120 over 70.  Did gain almost 2 lbs. from last visit.  Took blood to check my cholesterol levels.  Will find out results from that tomorrow afternoon, after 1 p.m.

Hope everyone is keeping warm this afternoon.  Saw a little snow flurries/shower a little bit ago.  Nothing now, as I look out the front window.

Has anyone here, who is on facebook, seen the game "Lucky Train"?  Walt told me about it a couple of days ago.  Tried it earlier.  Like it!!

Dan - will pass on venison (yes I have eaten it before), but will take a cookie - provided they aren't venison cookies?

No, not venison cookies.  The closest I come to that would be the XMas cookies shaped like reindeer.  I have found that brown sugar over white frosting and dark brown Dec-a-cake frosting in a small tube can make a cookie look like a deer.  Once frosted/decorated then you can take a 'red hot' and place it on the front shoulder of the deer...Mischief

I had good intentions of doing laundry and dishes last night but was foiled by a car accident.  Seems the three car pile-up sent one of the vehicles into the nearest fire hydrant post haste and the impact was such that the pipe running to the main burst, causing minor flooding of the street.  I heard the crunch from down the block but initially couldn't see any lights/hear sirens.  The wierd thing was the water pipes in the crawlspace thudded and banged briefly immediately following the wreck.  After I started seeing Water Dept trucks in the 'hood I put two and two together.  My suspicion was confirmed by the crewman knocking on my door telling me that water would be off for a while until the main break was repaired.  I described what I heard and he agreed-then advised me to check for leaks.  Thankfully there were none.  No serious injuries in the accident as well, but one heckuva mess!  Still was an ice rink down that way this morning.

20 degrees and overcast with flurries but not much wind.  I think a nap is in order once I get back home.

Dogs and Cats - I like them all.  I still don't and probably never well,  know exactly what happened in Omaha.  But I do know they have had quite a bit of problem with small children and pitbulls.  But I too blame the owners.

I think Omaha has a leash/confine law like Lincoln.  If these dogs were "loose", they shouldn't have been.

Dan - will pass on venison (yes I have eaten it before), but will take a cookie - provided they aren't venison cookies?

Tom - law of pets - for every 5 pounds and 6 inches on ground converts to 50 pounds and 3 feet on bed.

CW - eye dr here - very shortly.

Cold but no snow here.  Just a garbage man right now.

It is amazing to me how a twelve pound puppy can manage to take up the whole bed.

Try a 75 pound Dalmatian on a waterbed.  Talk about impossible to move!  And he was a cuddler, too...[quote]A friend went to the USPO to purchase a stamp to mail a letter to Canada, only to be told that Canada is in Africa or the middle east so the 98 cent stamp is required. Peace be with you. 28 and clear in Carolina, headed for 53 sez they. I am up early and will have some oatmeal if the cook can rustle some up. Just have a taste for that or pancakes and maple syrup.

After breakfast, I think I will try for a nap if I can evict one of the girls from the bed. I do refuse, by the way, to sleep on the floor any more.... It is amazing to me how a twelve pound puppy can manage to take up the whole bed.

I had a good night on the wireless. After 46 years, it is good to be able to say that it is still fun.

Good Thursday morning everyone.  Skies beginning to cloud up, but have a temp of 29 degrees this morning.  Supposed to see a high of 40 for this afternoon.

Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot water for tea and hot cider ready to go.  Regular breakfast menu on the serving station.

Puttting some soups, stews and chili on to warm for lunch today.  I have to go to the doctor this later this morning for my yearly checkup.  So no telling what time I'll be back home.

Everyone have a good morning, keep warm and take care.

Strange you should mention dog attacks. There was someone in a nearby town that was killed by a family pit bull yesterday. They seem to think that he tripped over the dog and was attacked.

Weather guessers calling for snow on Saturday, the first appreciable snowfall of this winter.  Depending on which way the system leans we'll either get 1-3 or 6-9 inches of the great white stuff.  Now that my cookies are cooling on the porch it's time to get Aedan to bed and then follow suit.

Have a good night!

Wasn't too bad until I got through Buffalo and turned east, then it was solid snow all the way to Rome, roads got better after Rochester.  Not looking forward to backtracking through it tomorrow, as the Lake Erie snow machine will hit high gear tonight, possibly dumping over a foot of snow from Buffalo west.

Well, back to resting in the Oneida service area.....

I had to run over to the village of Copenhagen on my way to Baldwinsville this afternoon (late T'giving dinner with daughter and her family) and what should have been a 20 minute trip took upwards of an hour through heavy snow and some unplowed roads.  The white knuckle band was out in full force, running about 20 mph and building up long lines of cars behind them.

By the time I got on I-81 (about the same time you posted, Randy), there was minimal slush in the road, and by the time I hit my exit north of Syracuse, the roads were merely wet.  What a difference a few miles make.

Back to the Polar Express on Friday, for the weekend.  Another 2000+ happy riders, I hope.

 Mookie:

Dan - we have had some problems in Omaha with pitbull attacks on humans.  Don't know details, but wonder if they (dogs) either got loose or were just running loose and saw an opportunity.  Doubt they will find the owners, but will watch for details.

Pass the cold Pizza, please.

I'm a cat person much more than a dog person but we've always had dogs.  My mother-in-law has three mastiffs, two of which were rescued from fighting operations.  They temporarily sheltered a couple of pitbulls as well.  At first, until they were deconditioned, we all were very cautious and mindful of the dogs and their "tendencies".  After about 6 months of TLC the dogs are fine to the point that I am comfortable with them being around my son (never alone, but still) and family.  I also have talked with several veterinarians and animal control officers about this: dogs "normally" don't "just attack" unless there's something wrong with the them (physically or mentally)-there is usually some kind of provocation.

In fact, we had a situation in town (Oshkosh) where something like what you describe happened and folks were up in arms about dangerous animal issues and wanted charges pressed against the owners.  The dog was destroyed after the attack and later a business' security camera was found to have recorded the event.  In this case the kid who was "suddenly" attacked "out of the blue" was throwing rocks at the dog and swinging sticks at it.  What's the dog gonna do?  I know other situations have happened of similar nature and as a result I tend to be very skeptical of "out of the blue" animal attacks.

Time to bake some cookies and then dinner.  I can't decide: venison steak, venison burgers, or venison tacos...

Dan, I believe CW did mention a bit about the dog attacks here in Lou.; it got so bad that the "City Fathers" wanted to "tax" and almost ban certain breeds of dogs, especially "pit bulls".

Tax, or raise the license fees to more than the "regular" animals.

Well, I'm guessing you and anybody else out there knew/knows how far that one flew!!

It's not the animals fault, it's their owner's fault, but for some strange(?) reason, those people can't get it through their thick heads, don't want too, or don't even have a clue. (they don't even need to own pets!)

edit: and yes, lets not forget the people that torment animals and get bitten........."it was just a dumb dog, it shouldn't have done that"!

....Still some light snow flurries flying around.  I'll put 1/2" in my unoffical snow records for today.  A bit of wind makes it a bit uncomfortable outside.

Stopped at a local restaurant, and made a trip to visit a neighbor in hospital, and scooted home after that.  Will be glad to stay in and watch our Pacer's do their thing tonight out in Utah.

It's been a pretty good western road trip so far....The Lakers and Sacramento last night for two in a row on western swing.
