Good morning to all. 63 degrees and dry in Carolina this morning. It is supposed to hit 80 again today. We had a record high locally yesterday, just two weeks before Christmas. Back in 1980 or 81, I had to cut the lawn on December 23, so I guess these things run in cycles. CW, I think I will settle on some oatmeal this morning, if you please. Yall all have a good day

....Still doing well here....No ice.  Warm, so doesn't look like any will be forming.  Thankful for that.  54 for a high today.

Well, we still have power here in CR- thank God the wind hasn't picked up very much after the storm.  We've got about half an inch of ice coating everything- lots of tree branches down.

Speaking of railroads, I wonder what your local city did to former railroad yards? I know that in Louisville, KY the former Louisville & Nashville railroad yard was turned into the site for Papa John's Cardinal Stadium; here in Sacramento, they're about the finalize the plans for the extensive redevelopment of the Sacramento Rail Yards, probably the largest railyard transformation project in US history.

Actually here in Louisville, only the L & N's South Louisville Shop Complex was

removed for the stadium, there was a small yard there, but most of that area

was just the shop complex. (there was, and still is an L & N (CSX) and Southern

(NS) crossing in that general proximity.)

The main ex L & N yard still exists (with expansions) not very far south from there.

The warmer bar has now been replenished with more of the casseroles and pizzas for tonight.  Joe, fixed a couple of different divided containers for you for work tonight!  Maybe one of these days, soon, the rain will end, and things can dry out!!

Well! What a disastrous day at the quack's offices. The first told me my medicare part D plan was no good and told me to disenroll before he would see me..... Then, if you remember, my shoulder has been paining me something awful for the last week or so. My orthopaedic surgeon xrayed me and said the arm is broken. Small wonder it hurt like blazes I initially broke it about 3 years ago and it is trying to rebreak at the same place. Thank G-D it is not a screw backing out. It is in a clamshell cast and already feels much better, but not particulary good yet. At least, no surgery is indicated. TA

Larry, those pictures are both fantastic and impressive!!

SactoGuy, I will include two casserole dishes today:  a beef and broccoli casserole, w/green peas and diced carrots, and a tuna melt casserole .  Along with the casseroles , I've made the following pizzas for today and tonight:

1.  Anchovie
2.  Cheese
3.  Pepperoni/sausage/mushroom
4.  Supreme

Thought maybe you all might be getting tired of MEXICAN FIESTA TUESDAY,  so decided to change the menu somewhat.  Hope it meets with everyone's approval.

Brian - we got freezing rain for something like 36 straight hours.

That cylinder of ice on the hood of my truck was hanging below the power lines - it doesn't show what was actually on the power lines.  I figured it out at a pound a foot.  With, say, five wires between poles, and 100 feet, that's an extra 500+ pounds.  We lost upwards of 8,000 power poles.  They'd go like dominos.  You can see that the wires are actually stretched to the point of touching the ground in one picture there.  Those poles eventually broke.

Many trees recovered (but not all).  You can still see bent-over tops and branches left over from that event, though.

The storm covered into Canada, which is where you may have seen the images of large power transmission towers collapsing.

I strongly suspect that I will be able to provide very similar pictures starting tomorrow...

Raining here now, and 30 degrees.  Trees are still holding up for the most part, but that's because there's no wind... YET.

If I don't post anywhere for the next couple of days, you'll know why.

Do I have the star on straight?Clown [:o)]

We lived that devastation in 1998, as you can see here: http://www.depauvillefd.org/icestorm.htm

Now, almost 10 years later, you can still pick out the evidence.

....We're still doing great missing all this devastating ice and freezing rain that is causing so much trouble.  Oaklahoma seems to be really hit bad.  Can sympathize with them as our memory is still clear how bad that can be with the ice devastation we had back in 2005.  Crews worked over 6 months to restore, repair and clean up all that happened.  So our best wishes and prayers go out to those that have been hit with this weather system.

This morning we registered 39.4 degrees and to go to 50 in the area today, so no ice under those conditions.  Now the warmer conditions have melted just about all the several inches of snow we had.

Item:  I noted all that warm weather on the weather map, including reaching highs of 70 plus in the Carolina's.  Weird Winter type weather so far.

Nice and quiet....

The nasty stuff Sunday night stayed south of us - my drive home was in light snow.  I don't think we're supposed to see any of the junk, and I'm not complaining.

I see some good late night munchies here......

Leftovers from lunch have been replenished on the warmer bar.  Joe, you have an assortment in a couple of containers, for you to take to work tonight.  A little bit of everything for you.

Supposedly, for the next 24 hours, we won't have any rain.  Only a 20% chance during this time period.  That would be nice:  then, I don't have to worry about getting soaked, standing out in the morning, taking names for Produce.

Everyone have a good evening!!

I DO have chains!  But since I doubt I will venture out until Wed - they are safe in the closet until them.

I have ear pods, ear muffs, 2 sets of chains, boots, 3 winter coats, mittens - several - everything but a line running from the back door to the garage that The Driver could hook me to - rappel to the garage....Laugh [(-D]

See you on Wed!

CSX has an extra chain, I think, unless they lost it between Utica and Ilion....  Might be a little heavy for our favorite feline, however.

It's still around 50 degrees around here, so far the "Nasty Stuff" is missing us. (for now)

Just rain, semi warm temps. in the forecast for the next several days.

(the way the maps look, we may be catching up on the earlier rainfall deficit

for here, know some of the southern states could really use this.)

I'm sure Millie has a set of chains, but could Madam LaMook use a set for herself?!

( may have to put an extra letter in the mail to Santa)

Mookie, just stay in, and stay warm tomorrow!  You'll definitely be SAFER that way!!

I've warmed up everything left from Sunday Dinner yesterday, and it's ready and waiting on the warmer bar.  There's plenty, so if anyone wants to take containers home for your supper tonight, have at it!!  (And there will probably be enough left over for supper tonight here in the Diner, as well.  If not, I'll fix something else for supper.  Maybe thin rib eye steaks and some sauteed mushrooms & onion?!?!

....This elongated ice, sleet, freezing rain pattern stretching from the southwest on across to Michigan and points east, is really staying with us...Such a steady weather pattern, seems unusual.  Also the type of weather seems unusual.  Hope the Winter pattern has not changed over to this.....This kind of stuff REALLY spells trouble to anywhere it passes.

So far, we've been lucky.  Temp has not varried over 3 or 4 degrees here for days and fortunately, we seem to be on the very southern fringe of it as it passes.  Right now {again}, the temp is: 34.5.  Seems it's been there for days.

Min. freezing here so far....Hardly any on streets and or roads.  Same for wires....and I'm thankful for that as this is a 100% electric home.  Did have some on top of the little snow we have...and on our mail box, I noted it yesterday morning.  Haven't been out to the mail box yet this morning but doesn't look like we got any precip during the night.

So hope everyone can ride it out until this system breaks up and the pattern changes.

CW, thanks for the pancakes. It helps to start the day off right. I'll be happy to get abouit 3 inches of your snow, cuz it will usually gone in a day. However for that day, the state will likely shut down.... Send it on. Thanks Mook and a good morning to all. 53 degrees and more pea soup fog in Carolina this morning. Take care and drive carefully. Ta for now

Just flagging through here to say - will be here today, gone tomorrow.

100% ice and snow tonite and tomorrow - getting too advanced in age and longevity to need to come into work during that mess.  So will plan to take a day off tomorrow and leave the skating to the youngsters that don't mind.  And yes, I will send it east, so enjoy!

Good Monday morning, to one and all!  Still having periods of rain, mostly light, and will have rain off and on all day.  I'm beginning to get tired of all the rain:  but it's better than getting sleet, freezing rain or snow.

Coffee is ready, along with fresh juices made, and there's plenty of hot water ready for hot chocolate and hot tea.  On the warmer bar this morning:  turkey bacon, sausage patties and links, homemade buttermilk biscuits, sausage gravy, hash browns, scrambled eggs, and buttermilk pancakes (regular and whole wheat), with plenty of maple syrup, and bagels and bear claws.

Adrian, congrats on your progress in the Air Force.  I know you'll continue to go a good job, and I hope you'll continue to drop in and let us know how you're doing, and say "HI" to everyone here.

Larry, sounds like you had another good weekend on the Polar Express!  Hope that CSX did get that chain taken care of!!

You all have a great day, and I'll see you all later.
