Adrian - Congrats on your progress.  USAF is, of course, the only way to go, as myself, my son, and my daughter-in-law will attest (My son and I are both USAF vets, DIL is still active AF).

Dover is a nice base, although I'm sure the area has changed a lot since I did a TDY there in the early 70's.

----------

Finished another week of Polar Expresses (I ran Saturday and Sunday) - about 1400 people for the four trips I worked.

Our loading of the first trip today was punctuated by a CSX manifest blowing through town at speed.  Nothing special about that, but about 10 cars from the marker we spotted a large chain about 20' long dragging from a flat car.  It was long enough to do some serious damage, and spread chunks of ice from the roadbed onto the station platform.  Our conductor called CSX to report it, but it was out of sight by then, so we don't know what they did.  None of our crew or passengers was affected.

The incident should serve as a vivid reminder of why you don't stand too close to the tracks.  This think would certainly have killed anyone it hit at that speed.  Wish I had video.  It was impressive.

Adrian, Thanks very much for checking in, hope all goes well with this career.

I'm a bit like Modelcar, I think I missed something that said you'd joined the military.

I probably could say something because you joined "That" branch of service, but I won't.

Congrats for joining and serving your country no matter what branch of service you're in.

It's about 50 degrees here now, to get up to 60 something today with continued rain in the forecast. We've even had thunder showers this morning. Dense fog advisory this morning. Extended forecast for this week is showing warmer than normal temps.,

and rain chances at least to/through the middle of the week.

Accident last night, there was no "actual" rescue, F.D just had to "pop" a door so

E.M.S. could get person out. As CW said, we've seen more than our share of accidents there, seems people are always "running" the traffic light, don't seem

to have enough patience to wait for it to change.

....Have not been outside yet to see the conditions, but it doesn't look like much rain activity overnight.  Temp is reading just a bit over 33, so seems we've stayed steady all night.  That's about what we had as I went to bed.  See no ice hanging on anything.

Have not looked at TV weather yet.  Last night we were on the fringe {the south side}, of freezing rain, sleet forecast for this line and north.  Advisory until noon today.  Don't know if that is still the same.

Good Sunday morning everyone!  And Ray, thanks ever so much for fixing such a wonderful breakfast this morning!

All we had last night was rain, rain and more rain.  After we got home from the Christmas Party, there was an accident up at the intersection.  Mutt and I heard a noise, and we both went to the front door, me with cordless phone in hand.  Called 911 and reported it.   Fire dept. had to get someone out of the van, and they were loaded onto the stretcher.

There have been so many accidents at the intersection, in the 19 1/2 years we have lived here.  The intersection south of our house, has seen  a few accidents, but not as many as this one intersection.

You all have a good day:  rest, relax, stay dry and warm, and keep safe!!

A Good, cold, frosty Sunday morning to everyone out there!

I am serving breakfast this morning and on the menue we have buttermilk pancakes, french toast with maple syrup, bacon and pork sausage links, scrambled eggs with diced ham, oatmeal, cinnamon rolls with lots of butter, homemade bananna bread and bananna nut muffins.Chef [C=:-)]Dinner [dinner]

The coffee is about finished brewing, and I've mixed a fresh batch of orange juice, and we also have pineapple juice and hot chocolate, made with milk and Hershey's chocolate syrup this morning for those of you who might want it......not the imitation powdered stuff.

It's 11 degrees here in my hometown of Sioux Falls, and we had a light dusting of snow late yesterday afternoon. I will be off to work within the next two hours. I hope everyone out there has a good day.

Stay warm!

just in for a quick drink of water. no freezing rain yet. a major cause of some fire around here are those scented candles that are left unattended.a local report said they are coming out with battery operated ones now.

Sacto Guy, there are Calzones on the menu also, since your request.

Think CW just forgot to list it.

Larry, that is very sad to hear about that fire, especially this time of year.

It's very unfortunate that a lot of fires like that happen around holiday time,

fires that should have been prevented. People that can't afford it, wind up having to

pay for it in the long run.

It's a promising 33 outside right now, but they're also promising near zero tonight.  Another cold night on the train.  But the kids (and a lot of the parents and grandparents) do make it worthwhile.

Major fire in an apartment building in the county seat last night.  Some 40 people have probably lost everything, just in time for the holidays.  While there have been rumors of nefarious doings out of the building for years, I'm sure that more than a few folks lived there simply because the rent was low and it was all they could afford.

Good morning everyone. (grabs big mug of hot coffee and a plate of sausage, hash browns and a danish)

It's 38 degrees outside as I type this. It's going to be very cool in Sacramento today.

Alas, I got bad news from my brother: his wife's sister in South Korea passed away from cancer. Sad [:(] I did offer my sympathies for him, and it's small wonder why the work on his house with new carpeting still hasn't been done yet.

Good Saturday morning to all!  Hope everyone had a good night!

Coffee, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are ready.  Also, fresh oj/oj/tangerine and pineapple juice are all ready, and chilling in the fridge.

Saturday brunch menu:  turkey bacon, sausage, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, cream of wheat, grits, country fried ham w/redeye gravy, hash browns, home fries, are now on the warmer bar.  In the cooler:  pineapple chunks and cantaloupe chunks.   And on the counter, we have all kinds of doughnuts, danish, and muffins.

Hope everyone has a great day, doing whatever you need to do today, whether it's Christmas shopping, putting up Christmas decorations, going shopping, or working around the house, whatever is on your agenda today.  See you all later!

I've just finished refreshing the warmer bar, with the meat loaf, smashed taters, etc., and have added our FRIDAY FISH FRY of cod, perch, salmon, halibut and haddock, along with fries, corn on the cob, pork n beans, and hushpuppies.

And there's plenty of chocolate birthday cake left for dessert (probably all weekend, since I made a whole sheet cake.)
