I hope the Tree has good roots or he'll fly away!  If that happens, let us know how it is in Canada or England...but I hope it doesn't!

....That sounds like rather severe stuff over in Larry's area...That same weather line passed this area 30 hours or so ago and really split as it went thru here, as we had just a little wind and yesterday a bit of light rain off and on.  But northwest of us, produced some pretty bad stuff, including some deaths...

Today, a bright day with temps now 40 degrees and almost no wind.

Nope - The same cold front that brought havoc to Wisconsin through Oklahoma, plus a steep pressure gradient.

Man, it's nuts here - neighboring department just called for more help for a roof off a firefighter's residence.  The trees and wires are falling like dominoes - and the wind's supposed to continue until this evening.

Dan, Welcome back!!!  (you're definitely welcome, the Germs aren't!)

"Things" like that are no fun at all, hope you are feeling better.

As CW said, the rain is out of here, still breezy but at least it's not gusting up t0 50+.

Larry, our scanner was a bit like yours last night, our city and most of the suburban fire

dept. here and in surrounding counties had their hands full with the tree, wires, etc.

runs from early evening through this morning.

On a lighter note, interesting run on the scanner earlier this morning; seems a tank

truck hauling a "mash mixture" to one of the local distilleries (Heaven Hill) "lost" it's

load, so they had to close a street down for clean-up. (15th st., right by the P & L yards.,about 11 blocks from our place.)

Morning everyone.  It's been a while so I thought I'd pop in and say HI.  Just got over a bout of flu (1st in 20 years) and been working lots, so I've been kinda limited.  I see that things are mostly what they always are around here...so it's back to lurking!

I was wrong - Severe thunderstorm watch early this morning, followed by a warning as a line of storms swept through the area.  Area fire departments are busy chasing tree-and-wire-down calls (my departments escaped unscathed), and there is a report of a possible tornado just a bit south of me (in the next county).  The dispatch information was that the roof was gone from the house, the car was missing from the driveway, and there were numerous trees and wires down in the area.  I'm sorely tempted to run down there, but....

I checked the radar for that time period and did see a "meso" indication (storm rotation - a precursor for tornados) for that area, so there may be something to it.

The skies are clearing now, but we're still supposed to have winds all day.

Tea and a bearclaw.  I'll be in my usual booth.

Good Wednesday morning to one and all.  No exclamation points this morning:  woke up with a headache.  Stupid sinuses.  But at least the rain is out of here, and it will be a fairly good day around here.  Hope you all's day will be just as good, at least weather-wise.

I've made fresh juice this morning, and the coffee is ready, along with hot chocolate and hot tea, hot cider.

On the warmer bar this morning:  bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, toast, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, grits, cream of wheat, pancakes, bagels and bear claws.

Mookie, I've got your coffee mug down off the shelf, and ready to pour coffee in, as soon as I see you coming through the door, and a beagle on a plate.

Looks like that front will be passing through here tonight.  Doesn't look too threatening, though, so we'll likely just get wet.

Checked my weather station display just now to check the temperature - 60!  Also checked the recorded high and low temperature:

The dates are formatted YY.MM.DD

I'll be calling Jim back after we finish with supper here at home.  Hopefully, we'll be able to talk.

I've just taken more pork chops and baked potatoes out of the oven.  Fixed more veggies, and everything is on the warmer bar.  Also fixed some more garden salads, so everything is ready for supper.

Joe and Lance:  containers are ready for you guys for work tonight.  They're in the usual location in the fridge.  (Right next to the chocolate cake that's defrosting for tomorrow.)

We are under a tornado watch until 10 p.m. EST.  Hopefully, it will miss all of us.  Winds aren't too bad; didn't almost blow away as we set out the garbage bin for pickup tomorrow!

CW did try to get JHH, he answered, but was very busy...so no talking about the weather

or anything; at least he answered, that's good for now.

Emmar, glad to see you back in here, those brownies do sound very good!

(I wouldn't worry about the calories too much, you'll be running them off anyway.)

Back from Produce Tuesday; we had 70 people today, and not a bad selection of food:  iceburg, leaf, and romaine lettuces, 5# bags of red potatoes, sweet potatoes, yellow sweet peppers and little boxes with sliced green apples w/caramel sauce and peanuts.  Just as we finished with the last person, and they started carrying in leftovers inside, it started to rain a little bit.  They said the winds, storms and everything else will probably reach us around 5 p.m. this afternoon.    Joe, don't know about Jim yet:  will try to call and check on him in a few minutes.

On today's menu:  baked pork chops w/baked potatoes, green peas, boiled cabbage, cole slaw, garden salad, deviled eggs, and corn.

Joe, here's a piece of birthday cake for Matt (but, make sure he has lunch before hand)!

Coffee in the big mug for Ms Mooks, hot chocolate in the urn for those interested, my tea's a-brewin'.

Sixty-five degrees as I arrived at work today.  The airport is showing 62.  And this at 7:30 AM!

The high for Sunday is supposed to be 28.  Better enjoy it while it's here.  The ~foot of snow in my back yard is completely gone - streams and rivers are running pretty high right now.

Time to delve into the papers on my desk.

I'm awake, so time for the world to be up!  It is also prattle time -

Amtrak - supposed to be in here at 5 am-ish.  Arrived yesterday when I was on my way home from work at 2:48 pm.  I was distressed to see how old the cars and the engines looked.  Very worn and dated looking.  I imagine they have seen more than their share of grief.

Weather was very nice - will be rainy/snowy maybe this morning and then back to nice.  I can deal with this.

Visited with a man that sits at our watch site almost every day.  We discussed a blind shove of a 3 motor, full freight train with a crossing guard.  Worked perfect.  My first one, but he said he has seen it happen before.  They shoved them clear out of the yard and down a main line until they were lined up to head out of town.  It was a thrill to watch!

Joe - sorry about Ohio State.  LSU was our pick because their DC will be our next head coach!  So he has two BCS rings and his first head coaching job waiting for him.  But Bo went to Ohio state, so it is all within the family.  We are thrilled thoughout the university and the city and state!

Will have the next person in the diner set up hot drinks for all.  Make mine coffee - straight up, please and thank you!

Good Tuesday morning, all!!  Emmar, glad you could make it in for a visit!  We miss you around here!!  And thanks for the brownies!!

Bob, time to wake up!!

Good morning, Cannonball!  How are you and Shirl doing?  Are the two of you beginning to adjust to retirement?  Hope so!

Coffee is on, and just about finished brewing, fresh juice is made, along with hot chocolate, hot cider, and hot tea.

For breakfast this morning, I made some pancakes, fried bacon and sausage.  There are aso some bagels and bear claws for breakfast.

Also made a birthday cake for Bergie's birthday today.  Hope he will be able to drop by and get a big slice of it!  (I also started a separate birthday thread for him, so everyone on the forums can leave birthday greetings for him.)

You all have a great morning, and take care!!

Hi all, I know I haven't been around in a while. But since everyone is talking about the weather I might as well add that the only good thing I can say about being back at school after winter break is that I left clouds, rain and 50 mph winds back home and got nice sunny 65 degrees at school. It is so nice out that instead of practiceing indoors like we normally do the track practice was outside today. If anyone is around I have some brownies that I stole from the dining hall that I would like to share. I know its college food, but they are actually fairly good (although I would hate to know how many calories are in one of them). Well a little more cruising around the forums and then back to studying for me.
