That o.k., Joe:  got plenty of chocolate cakes in the freezer.  But I do need to get some more cake mixes, though.  Except for the chocolate, all I've got left is Funfetti cake mixes, and one strawberry and one Angel food mixes.

For today's SPECIAL, we've got more beef stew and cornbread, along with chili (mild & medium today); if you want spicy, there's plenty of hot sauce, and hot salsa you can add to your bowl.

Very cold and breezy here, with occasional flurries and light snow showers earlier.  Not doing anything outside right now, though.   Guess I'd better get back to doing little odds and ends around here.

Good Monday morning, all!  Hope you all enjoyed your weekend, and didn't wear yourselves out too much!  Current temp is about 30, with a high today in the mid to upper 30s?  Can't remember what I heard this morning.  Do know we're supposed to have very light periods of snow flurries, light snow showers, with maybe a trace of accumulation.

Coffee is ready, juices are made, and hot chocolate, cider and tea will be ready in a couple of minutes.

On the warmer bar this morning:  oatmeal, toast, bagels, bear claws, and cinnamon struesel coffee cake.

You all have a good morning, and I'll be back in the stockroom, taking inventory of supplies.

Thanks for dinner CW. I havn't had cornbread in forever!

On a toatally different note, does anyone on here know any good railfanning spots within a few hours drive of Trenton, NJ. I am not very familiar with the area back here yet so I thought someone else on here might know of some spots where you can see freight trains. Although I do have to admit that it is nice to be able to wander a mile down the road and watch the passenger trains go over the canal.

Hope everyone had a good day and keep warm.

Sunday Dinner this afternoon:  beef stew w/cornbread, chili and vegetable beef soup.  Decided to fix something totally different; hope no one minds Sunday Dinner being late today.

Weather here this afternoon:  cloudy, gloomy with a current temp of 37.8.

I just had to stop in and share this with everyone. You should all check out Mike Yuhas' website. There are so many great train pictures you could spend days looking at it. He even has maps of the locations that the shot was taken at and has the camera settings for the shot. Hope everyone else likes it too.

....Cannonball:  Sounds like a great service you are into now and probably one you enjoy.  Sounds like your big rig is gone and the incentive can't be there then to go out and do it "some more"....

Sounds like you can handle the idle time and enjoy it too plus whatever you care to be doing...like the pickup run.

Muncie Gear and Borg Warner...{two different businesses}. But this is the last full year for BWA....They tried to re negotiate the contract with the Union force but they wouldn't talk to them and the plant will be closed down in 2009.  It has been in continous operation for 107 years and that will be the end.  It is one of the original four companies that formed BW.  The work will be moved to different places....Not sure on details yet.

The big Chevrolet plant...on 8th street....is physically gone too..!!  Also there is rumor Borg-Warner will raze their building when the work stops.  That structure is 1/2 mile long here on Kilgore ave....!

It's all so sad.  I spent 37 years in the experimental lab there....5 years of it in Pennsylvania doing road test work, plus several years of a program in the Kingman, Az...Yucca flats area doing similar work.  Enjoyed it all for the most part.  Last few years were not so much fun anymore...as the world economy had changed everything so much.

By the way...We've got 37 degrees here in Muncie this morning, with gray skies and it's dry.  No snow.  That's a good thing.

Enjoy that leisure time.

Good Sunday morning!  Hope everyone had a great day/night last night.

Coffee has finished brewing, and I've fixed fresh oj/oj/tangerine, and pineapple juices this morning.  Hot chocolate, hot cider, and hot tea are just about ready.

On the warmer bar:  cinnamon rolls, blueberry, cherry, strawberry  muffins, pancakes and waffles, and plenty of maple syrup.  As usual, everything will be out on the warmer bar, until about 10:30 EST.

Do I have any requests for  our Sunday Dinner menu?  Or  would anyone like to be alternate cook today?

Ahhh life is still good. Watch out for ice under powder snow on the sidewalk .  As you said,it gets easier as time goes by . Rattler is gone now .  We shall see what what we can see. Yay, pizza. Thanks CW. I think I'll have a big slice of anchovie and then get back to work on my essay. I have to write a review of an article on CO2 as a driver of climate change during the Phanerozoic. The article is interesting, but there are so many technical terms I keep getting confused. Why can't professors just ask us to write about trains!

Hope everybody had a good Saturday and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Joe, here you go, tonight's PIZZA MENU:

1.  Anchovie
2.  Cheese
3.  Goetta
4.  Hawaiian
5.  Pepperoni/mushroom
6.  Supreme
7.  Calzones

There are three extra large of all six pizzas, so there should be enough for everyone to have their fill.  And instead of any dessert pizzas tonight, later on, we'll pop popcorn, with your choice of apple cider, hot cider, or soft drinks or fruit punch.

Good morrow all yall. I slept in and missed the breakfast do, so settled for oatmeal here at home. Currently sunny and 60 here in Carolina this afternoon. My girls are lounging outside enjoying the nice weather and soaking in the warmth. I think I will spend the afternoon on the wireless or catnapping, or both. BTW, I just sent in my paperwork for absentee balloting, so I can vote against a specific few this year. Ain't life grand? Ta

Noon already, so I guess I'll have to settle for brunch.

Went out and bought a DeLorme atlas program for the laptop last night.  Ties in very nicely with my GPS.  Put everything in the truck and took it for a spin, with amazing results - the little cursor showed exactly where I was.

The program came with a "certificate" for some free aerial photo overlays - there are spots where the maps and the photos don't exactly match up, but not by much.

Overall, it'll be pretty handy.

Up to 43 already.  Can't complain, as they were forecasting highs in the high 20's for the weekend.  I've even got a comforter hanging out on the clothesline...

....A little surprising to see we're at 30 degrees and down in Lousiville just a few degrees warmer.  Right now, the sun is rising and the sky is mostly clear....so our day will start with some sunshine.  Believe we'll have a chance for some snow flurries or snow showers over the weekend and sometime this coming week but so far no forecast of accumulating snow.  That's a good thing.  If we can keep January moving along as it is now, pretty good.  It's 1/3 behind us now.  Another good thing.

Also today....the sun rises one minute earlier now....so we're starting the down hill run now to more daylight. {In the morning}.

Good Saturday morning.  It's going to be a very cool day around here.  Our current temp is 33,  and we're only supposed to get a high in the upper 40s.  Then, tomorrow, a chance of snow flurries & light snow showers.

Coffee, hot tea, hot chocolate and hot cider are ready.  On the warmer bar:  sausage, scrambled eggs, hot homemade buttermilk biscuits and sausage gravy, and fried taters, country fried ham w/red eye gravy and grits.

Bundle up so you stay warm outside, and have a great day!

I've fried more fish, fries and hushpuppies, made fresh cole slaw for supper tonight.  The fish choices are:  cod, haddock, hallibut, perch, salmon patties and shrimp.  Fresh sides:  corn on the cob, fries, hushpuppies, and cole slaw.   Desserts are same as at lunch:  chocolate cake, the cobblers, and pies.

Our FRIDAY FISH FRY is now under way.  On the menu today in the fish catagory:  cod,  perch, salmon patties, hallibut, haddock, and shrimp.  Side dishes:  corn on the cob, fries and hushpuppies, and cole slaw.

DESSERTS:  chocolate cake, apple, peach blackberry and blueberry cobblers, apple, cherry, peach and pecan pies.

Believe our temp is still holding in the low 40s, but it sure does feel cooler here in the house.  Enjoy your lunch, you all, and have a good afternoon!

...Cannonball:

You should slide into the process better as time moves on....Although I seemed to be into it pretty good the first day after it occurred.

Now in your retirement, you should give a bit of thought swinging back thru Muncie and take a look....If you haven't been here for a while it will probably look quite different.

Heavy manufacturing has just about been eliminated...Something Muncie was famous for many decades in the past.

Seems it is evolving into  a massive size Ball Hospital complex....and ever adding size to the Ball State University complex.  Those two employ thousands and thousands of folks now.

Of course massive building in retailing has expanded much too....Especially along McGalliard road west.  But we've had a great renovation in the "old business district" of downtown Walnut St. too.  A brand new business building is in place now where the former Ball Stores building was there on south Walnut...Downtown is looking much better.

If so ,the park is an interesting place to see and enjoy. Hotels and resturants close at hand.  Maybe we can link up when you are there.  I am 65 mi. from there, but no problem to meet a Diner patron and a conductor to boot.  I just need your schd. eta.

I'll be on-line while I'm there, even if it means hitting hotspots.  I'll get there on the evening of the 30th, leaving early on the 6th.

That is the park to which I am referring.  Last time I was there, there was also a live steam "layout" there, but that was several years ago.

....Jim, it really does take on that sense since retirement occured.  I used to be looking forward to Friday as much as the next person but after the 5 days a week stops....one seems to settle back and it diminishes much in importance.  In the 15th year of it now....

It really is Friday but doesn't seem as important to a retiree as to the 5 day a week worker...But looking at my watch, I can confirm {to myself}, it really is the weekend.

Modelcar, I am envious of your not needing to be a "clock watcher" in your retirement...and I vow to throw my wrist watch away after I retire in about six years (give or take).
