Pshaw!  Try 12' in one storm! (Redfield NY, last winter)

Syracuse is one of the snowiest non-mountain areas in the country - 110-120" is a normal winter.  In fact, people get disappointed if they don't beat last year....

Mookie:

There is always North Carolina where snow is maybe twice a year occurance and most folks don't really pay much attention to the speedlimits anyhow.

.....Yes, that was a crisis amount of snow....The area is western Pennsylvania {Somerset Co.}, and some of the lake effect snow does reach down into the area at times.  Elevation is 2,000'.  That helps.

I really don't know now just what the seasonal avg. is for the area {just don't remember}, but it does get a lot of snow in a normal Winter.

I remember to open some roads, outside contractors used bulldozers to open some drifts, pushing perpendicular to the line of the road, knocking down fences, etc...

And of course all the big "blowers" were in use to cut thru massive drifts and even power shovels were put into action to dig out some places that had special amount of drifts.  It was quite an experience.

We average between 97" and 108" yearly.  You must of lived in one of those snow belts, no?  Thats over 15 feet of snow.  Not bad.

Doghouse - does that pertain to your status at times or the cab over trucks that had doghouses...?  Shy [8)]

Anyway - we used to have a lot more snow than we do now - and I don't miss it one bit.  But our ice has never lessened and in the summer the humidity flattens you.

I would move in a heartbeat, but can't find anything that stays about 70-75.... 24/7/365 - and San Diego is getting waaaaay to crowded!

...For comparison....we here in central Indiana have had:  14.5" , Somewhat above average and we're to see it go as low as zero or 2 below this weekend.

Many years ago...{1958}, in my home area of Pennsylvania we had a total season amount of 188" of snow.

Mook, you would'nt want to live where I do.  So far this year we've had close to 60" of snow.  That terrible white stuff just keeps falling.   This weekend lows between -7 amd -13.  That would explain why people up here move to Florida in the winter.Sleepy [|)]

Batten the hatches, put up the umbrella, get out the snowshoes.  Guess what it is doing here - and more to come as day and nite progress.  AAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH  I hate this!

Been out for a walk this morning, and got back a little while ago.  Unfortunately, didn't hear or see any trains while I was out.

Dan, good to see you in here!!  Mookie, we haven't seen much snow, but I know how you feel:  not too fond of it myself any more!!  And we're supposed to be getting some of it beginning sometime tonight. (big ole frown)

Got some things put out on the warmer bar for lunch:  Italian spaghetti w/garlic bread, oven roasted potatoes, sweet green peas w/carrots; roast w/taters, carrots and onion; and other sides are cole slaw and garden salad.

Desserts:  chocolate cake w/chocolate icing; yellow cake with caramel icing; Dutch apple pie and cherry pie w/whipped cream available to put on top of the pies.

If things this afternoon go as slow as they've been in here, lunch menu will probably be supper menu, as well.

Good morning all. 27 deg and clear in Carolina this morning with a chance of snow  this evening in western SC! CW, are those Vidalia onions? I like those but the tearjerkers are more prevalent it seems. Mookie, I agree with you about the snow, but do like to see a couple of inches from time to time. In 1973, we had 22 inches in one night but that was an oddity. This part of the state hardly sees snow when everywhere else is white. It even snowed in The Bahamas once and nary a flake here! All yall stay safe and warm. Take care of the dogs and cats and whoever lives with you.

Thought I'd pop in.  We're supposed to get 4-8" + tonight.  Yay (not).  Then it's going to get cold.  Just in time for time off.  Banged Head [banghead]  I think I'll sit in the truck trackside and lounge while CN puts on a 'Snow Parade'.  Back later!

Blah....ok - Good Morning, Blah!

More snow this afternoon and overnite - 5-6 inches before we are done.  MC - I don't like the Colorado weather you are sending us.  Going to raid CW's veggie patch and draw you a nice hot bath!

I hate snow!  We still have lots of it on the north side of the house where the "sun don't shine!"

Cannonball:  This was our second time back at Produce since before Christmas; and so far, the food seemed to be in a better condition (at least, as far as I could tell).  All I got was some onions yesterday.  And they were big, fat onions!  They also brought 10# bags of potatoes, greens, and some more very soft yellow peppers.  Glad to hear life's getting better!

Mudchicken, which do you prefer in your job:  being out in the field, or being in the classroom, teaching?  Or a little bit of both?

Coffee, hot tea, hot chocolate and hot cider are all ready, so everyone help yourselves.  And for breakfast:  steaming hot oatmeal, boiled rice, toast, bacon, sausage, hot homemade buttermilk biscuits, gravy and cinnamon rolls.

Abusing the copy machines in the off hours here. Get to teach in TinShoes backyard (Ames) on Friday and then work my way back home starting Saturday. I'm sure Mooks will be looking for somebody on the wrong side of the asparagus barrier.

50 degrees this afternoon and looking at 3-6 inches of snow this morning by daylight and a high just barely into double digits? Mother Nature is off on another of her patented mean streaks.

CW : has the produce quality improved any since Dec. ?? Cold storage time at the chain stores has been shortened because new produce is coming in from the wholesale houses. It would be helpfull if the stores moved the stuff out sooner to the food banks . Our produce will arrive wed. a.m. , One other volenteer and myself have been asked to accept or reject the good or bad . A good thing, the produce comes to Phx. by BNSF from Calif.( hello Ms. Mookie )  Life gets better , just like a fine wine. Respectfully, Cannonball

Joe, you're welcome!  We didn't have any snow flurries today, just the cold.

Our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta is now on the warmer bar.  Tacos, burritos (beef & bean, beef enchilada style), enchiladas, fajitas, Spanish rice, shredded lettuce and tomatoes, and cheesy beef nachos, along with tortilla chips and salsa and con queso sauce.

You all have a good evening, and take care of yourselves.

Good Tuesday afternoon, to one and all.  Decided to take the morning off, and concentrated on the Tuesday Produce.  Really bundled up this morning, too!!  Felt like the temp was in the low teens, and when I left for Produce, our outdoor thermometer was reading 20 degrees.  My toes are just now beginning to thaw.

The weather predictors are saying we could get some snow over the weekend, and some really cooooolllld air.

Joe, thanks for getting things going in here this morning!  The pancakes are really good!!

For lunch, there's warmed up beef stew, and some chili left.  Think I'll work this afternoon on Mexican Fiesta for tonight, unless you all would prefer something else.  Just let me know, o.k?

....Believe the snow and a bit of wind we had yesterday was from a Low system working across the mid west and on towards Larry's area.  It produced real fine snow that upon looking out several times last evening I could not even see it snowing, but the ground did get white.  Less than a half inch.  But the cold stuff is working down here on the back side of the Low.

This morning we have 19 degrees and now a bit before noon it is really bright and the sun is actually breaking thru.

At week's end, we'll have it a bit colder here.  And the cold north wind will run way down to the deep south {Jet stream sagging}, for a few days.  Then, there is a weather system out {on the plains}....uh oh....I better watch that....and it will effect some snow fall here later in the week.  Not sure yet just how much and where in our state.

But light it is now...Really bright with the light snow on the ground and sun just about breaking thru...but a bit of wind and the 19 degrees make it not comfortable outside.  But the toy's...{Xtreme's}, heater really puts out so not to worry heading out to run a few errands and partake of lunch.

Joe - we saw another one of those 60's with a new number - the first two were painted over.

And we saw a B unit this last weekend - I didn't get a good look at it - was busy writing down info.  But the Driver caught it.

Tree - I am just glad I "heard" about it a week before - still waiting details and bet those will come on the day of.......

Snowed here almost all day yesterday and overnight, but it's a very light snow (dare I say "mist"?) and has only collected about an inch.  I think it's from a coastal storm - haven't been tracking the weather very closely.

All's quiet otherwise on the northeastern front...

Bearclaw and tea.  I'll be in my usual seat.

Yep, cold here too in NC, 19° F. here this morning. Heard we might get some flurries tomorrow.........but you know the weather guessers have been predicting rain all week and we only got .02" of rain all week.

Still fighting this head cold, but feeling a bit better this morning.

Hot tea and toast for me this morning! Thanks!

^.....

More cold coming later this week.  I haven't warmed up from December!  Where is Willy - need to have a talk with that young man.

Busy, busy - must take off 2 days next week for in-town conferences.  You know you have arrived when they make you a team leader and then don't tell you but let you read it in the meeting overview.  Guess history is my claim to fame.

Hmmph....

SilverSpike, you're welcome!

Got another round of beef stew, cornbread and chili on the warmer bar for supper tonight.

Still having little bits of flurries around here, believe we're supposed to have more, probably around or after midnight.  Going to make a very cold morning for me doing Produce tomorrow.
