Good Afternoon Folks!
The day before Christmas Eve (which is the BIG day here in Germany)! Worked down my HD list, went to my doc appointment and now we are all set for Christmas to come. I have to wait for the results until after Christmas, so Friday will bring truth or consequences...
What have I started? I published the drawing of my little critter in a german forum specialized on light railways. The feedback was tremendous. There is a fair chance we can team up and organize the production of a small series of this loco. I must have hit the nail with this design
So, here is the final version of it:
Johnboy - good to see you here! The prayer candle remains lit!
Make it a great day!
MisterBeasleyJeff, if you keep that up, you will be the replacement for Duck Dynasty. Power Tools in the Swamp!

There is no Icon for cold,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.,.
Morning all,
Just a short stop as some have been asking how cold it is up here,
Well we are just getting ready to go to the hospital and the outside temp here is -33 C and with the wind chill it is -49 C
and those temps that low are very similar to Farenheit. God bless us all. Not sure why we stay here except at this time of year we
have no problems with flys or mosquitos.
Have a great day all.

Good morning. It's 34° with 91% humidity. The high will be 48°.Nothing in particular planned for today. I'll probably just watch some movies. I'm giving my back and right thigh a break as their aching from the workout they got yesterday.
Well
Cooler today so far adn erm "drizzly" there is still some rain hainging around.
Looking at "tiny houses" from Tumbleweed. the Whidbey with 2 brs and a loft all in a mere 557sqft model. If you can stand a "great room" with a dining table in it of 15'x9' it'll do. I'd expand the one BR to 8 feet out at least. I'd epand the great room to at least another 4 foot wide to make it 15x13. I'd take out the loft over the Gr Room. {just over bath/kit nad over front BR is enough}. The front room I'd have the E windows and the W windows by the door walled out so only fornt windows remain, the front door moved to just 4" of trim away from the exterior BR wall to put in a full closet where they have shelves next to the open front door. They say the materials SHOULD cost about $41,500 in nearly any reagion. Ahem. The labor is where they get you. And on a concrete slab.
Here is the plans page {don't count on the link to work}:
http://www.tumbleweedhouses.com/products/whidbey/#ad-image-12
So I don't know. If we get a small in-town lot {ther are a few cheapies now} it may work. also a NICE out of town lot too for a mere $7,900 might work IF we have the extra money to build the nifty little thing. I'd want a foundation at least under the main house. That'll cost more of course! full foundation? yeah about $8-10K more. Lvel lot and some digging/backfil..maybe we could get it for $8K.
SO don't know. Cute little "cottage" I'd go for the enclosed KIT model as MOH doesn't like the "open kitchen" and "mess that goes with the kit while cooking" to be "seen" by the guests or visitors {like we have a lot}.
we will see, maybe in 2-3 years? More like 5-10!
interesting.
have a great mid-day early-afternoon!

last mountain & eastern hogger. . .the outside temp here is -33 C and with the wind chill it is -49 C and those temps that low are very similar to Farenheit. . .
Wow, that is cold. The Google metric conversion app says -27F with a wind chill of -56F. It is hard (impossible) for this Arizonan to even imagine how cold that is. Stay warm, and more importantly, get/stay healthy.

Galaxy - that´s a cute little house! I certainly can picture myself living in something like it! All I need in addition would be some place to put up a little workshop, - my layout will adorn a wall, just like a picture!
Hi Guys.
Was suppose to go for bloodwork today but had to wait for the docotrs office to fax it over. I tried calling and calling but it looks like that ice storm may have knocked out power to them also. I will call again tomorrow and just reschedule the work. Alot of damage last night by falling trees. Some people may not have power back before christmas in some parts around here.
I have been working on the layout today and am doing some coal loads at the moment. When the wife gets home we have some cookies that we need to get going on.
Mornin'..... er.... uh.... Ahem! Afternoon folks!
Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buckwheat pancakes, NYS Maple Syrup, bacon, and lots of dark rost coffee in my R&GV RR Mug please.
I went out early this morning and got my hair cut. Actually I had them all cut. A member of my church who is an insurance guy stopped by the barber shop (in the same plaza) with some paperwork for the barber, and told me he was wondering when I was going to get it cut and that I was looking a bit ragged at church yesterday. I told him I didn't get it cut until after I did my imitation of the Patron Saint of Mal Wart... Then I stopped at the Vets on the way home (right across the street) to pick up more pill pockets and the Rx food for the kitties. I will be going to the grocery store and a couple other places this afternoon to finish up last minute shopping for Christmas after lunch.
Jeremy, looks like you guys North of Lake Ontario got nailed real good by the storm! Hope you and yours stay safe and they can clean up and get things working up there ASAP. I'll keep all our frinds up in that area in my prayers for now!
Forget who it was but actually -30+° (F or C) is kindof fun to be out in as long as the wind is not kicking up hard. I have been out camping in that sort of cold. You know when it is that cold by the "Crunch" when walking on the snow!
Catch you all later.

Sir Madog Galaxy - that´s a cute little house! I certainly can picture myself living in something like it! All I need in addition would be some place to put up a little workshop, - my layout will adorn a wall, just like a picture!
Well, YOU could have the whole rear BR for your trains! When your son visits he can go up the loft to the air mattress bed to sleep! You'd have the front BR for you and Petra.
If you look at the right side margin, 4th "block" down, is more plans, but the bigger they are, the more they cost and MOH and I really don't want a 2 story. The "Harbinger" is about the same as the one I showed you!
http://www.tumbleweedhouses.com/products/b53/#ad-image-8
would be my next favorite! BUT it is a 2-story and a loss for us. we ahve been spoiled with only 3 steps to get into our "house" and all on one level We'd like a basement of course, {for trains}, but I think a small Z scale layout would do me fine in an under-bed container. ANd the single story concept of the Whidbey is great!
When we build it, Ulrich, you and Pertra can be our first guests!!!
Good Afternoon...and Merry Christmas everyone!!!!
Yes. It be me here. Better hide the pies again...the Chow Hound is baaaaaacck!!!!
The band and our debut album projects have been keeping me really busy here. But. I'll be popping in a lot more often than I have been!
Johnboy: hope things get better. Stuff like that needs to die!! Not you!!!
Welb...better get going again....got those ol' late Christmas things to buy blues again.....

Afternoon folks..... Hey! Is THAT Barry??? Howdy Barry! Merry Christmas to yah! I had begun to think you didn't like us anymore or sumpin'. Good to hear you are doing well with album.
Just thought I would share a couple of RR photos from last Saturday. The "North Pole" where "you know who" lives:
Old Santa greets the "Boys and Girls" in the rain who traveled all the way to the "North Pole" to see him:
He gives every Girl and Boy a candy cane and a promise to visit on Christmas Eve!
I can tell you the "Jolly Old Elf" enjoyed it even though it was raining and cold!

Later!
I went to HD today to buy the lumber for my benchwork experiment--a small tabletop layout (2'4"x4') with short, little legs. My goal is to learn how build up benchwork on something small before going full-scale. (Kind of like on Mythbusters.) The last time I did anything that even resembled carpentry was in ninth-grade shop class, and that was a long, long time ago. My goal is to complete the benchwork during the holidays. Wish me luck.
Good Evening Everyone,
First off, I want to wish Johnboy the best of luck with the treatments and I sure hope it is successful. Please keep us posted on your progress.
As Johnboy said it was another cold day here. Not quite as cold as he had it but still much below normal for this time of year. We went out anyway as we had lunch with a friend of my wife and her husband who were in town from Edmonton visiting family. I then got my wife to go to a jewellery store and I got her something for Christmas. Nothing like shiny things!
Well soon we are going to watch one of our favouite movies, Little Shop Around the Corner. We sure are going through a lot of Keurig coffee especially the Butterscotch flavoured one.
On the RR front I finally finished the Middlesex Manufacturing Building and have been doing some running on the N scale. I want to be sure everything is running fine before I start ballasting.
Keep warm,
CN Charlie
Egg Nog, please. Heavy on the nog! ... CLice of mince pie, too, please.
Merry Christmas everybody. I may not be on the computer for a while. Michigan family is leaving here in Kentucky for their home in the morning, and we leave in the morning to see family in Alabama. Should see more family in Tennessee on our way back. It'll be a short trip because Ohio family will be here over the weekend.
Barry ... Great to see you! ... Please do not stay away. Hope your music is going well.... Hey ! Where is the mince pie?
Ray .... I like the Jolly Old Elf photos. Where are Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, and Blitzen ?
JohnBoy ... Praying you will be cured and have a full recovery.
Ulrich ... It will be neat if that little engine becomes a production model.
Cheers !

Had a somewhat busy day. No progress on Oliver's adventure. Didn't even turn the //e on. We had lunch in town today at Domino's pizza. I had a small pizza. Put a large ham in the oven a little before noon. It was ready about 5:30-6. That's going to be the sandwich meat supply for a while. We went into town tonight to look at the Christmas light displays people have set up. It's pretty sparse this year. That's it for tonight. See y'all tomorrow.
Good Morning!
December 24th, 2013 - this days marks 50 years of being into model railroading! What started out as a toy train to play with, has turned into a life-long hobby, if not a craze
We will be driving to my son´s place in a handful of hours. All the gifts are wrapped and packed. It´ll be the firts time in 30 years we are not at home to celebrate the Holy Night. I hope we make it to Hannover - we are under a storm warning.
Barry - good to see you again. We missed you quite a lot, y´ know.
Galaxy - Looking at the floor plan and the pictures of that house has re-kindled an old dream of mine. I am a little sad I can´t realize this, at least not in this life. There was a time when I could have bought a house like this just out of petty cash - well, tempi passati. If n´ when I win a couple of million $$$, I´ll have one built for you and YOH, and Jeff!
Special thoughts and prayers for Johnboy on this day!
morning coffee in the diner...
Santa Claus is coming to town...
He sees you when you're modeling,
He knows if you've been true to scale,
He knows if your trains are running bad or good,
so, be modeling, good for goodness sake!
And laying his finger aside of his nose....
Up the chimney he rose!

ULRICH: do NOT be sad, for I don't know IF MOH and I will ever be able to build such a cute little place {with a few modifications} or not. We'd like to retire to Hawaii, but don't know if that dream will ever come true or not. Heck, we'd settle to own a small little Cape Cod style house instead of the mobile home we are in! MOH is your age, so can be as difficult here for MOH as for you there job wise!...MOH is lucky to have gotten the job now..though it IS still part time at 30 hours and that is not coming up as 30 hours YET..hopefully it will lead to full time...
There are lots of things in life we'd all dream of that may be unattainable, but one can still dream. Maybe if we win the lottery!
Dreams can still drive life and vitality you know!
Petty cash would never have been my abilities, so I know only the dream of which you speak there!
Have A GLORIOUS CHRISTMAS With your son!
Have a SAFE trip!
Well late on Christmas Eve here downunder, so I'll take the opportunity to wish eveyone a Happy and Safe Christmas, before Santa catches me out of bed.
Cheers, the Bear.

Galaxy - After 4 years, I am still chewing hard on my fall from riches to rags - in fairy tales, it is usually the other way around, so what´s my story, then?
I will use the quiet holiday season to build a cardboard mock-up of that critter. With some builds from friends in that German forum, I have now drawn up the final version:
Good Morning all!
Coffee please Flo, got an urn sized mug??
Barry, put the pie down and back away slowly!
Sunny, going for a high of 42° today!
Morning laugh, SWMBO started her car, came back inside to get that last sip of coffee, her purse and a kiss goodbye. I went down to my computer then heard her fussing about the kitchen.I asked "What's wrong honey?"She replied, "I can't find my keys!" "Um, could they be in the running car?" I shouted? She replied " Oh crap, they might be!" Thank goodness she only works til noon today, I think a full day would kill her right about now!
Got some last minute Honey Dooooo stuff this morning. Then candlelight services tonight at 11
Prayers going out for Johnboy, Jeremy, Ulrich and anyone else who is in need

Good Tuesday morning, Diners. -18f and clouds. They're saying 4-6" MORE sn*w today. We've got close to 20" already up here in Wisconsin. Sheesh.
Day off today so I'll be downstairs.
Nice to see Barry back in.

Happy Christmas eve everyone
We got a little snow last night, the light fluffy kind. Have been up since 6 doing housework and shoveling. Just sitting down now with a cup of coffee and a book I just got off amazon. Its one by Pelle Soeborg called "Detailing projects for freight cars and locomotives". Later on this afternoon we go over to my parents for christmas eve dinner ( lasgana ) and then back over in the morning for christmas with them before going over to the wifes moms for dinner. Dont know if I will get any modelling time in today or not. Well, I should go give the wife a hand with the Oatmeal cookies she is making.
Talk to you guys later tonight
Good morning. It's 31° with wind chill of 27°. Humidity: 99%. The high will be 52° and feel like 56°.We had a heavy frost last night and now nearly everything is white. That's about the closest we get to a white Christmas here.No plans for today that I know of. There's no telling what my father might have planned. My back and right thigh got quite the workout yesterday and are letting me know all about it this morning. Taking a day-long break would probably be a good idea. All my Christmas presents for the family are wrapped and tagged. Being a poor man I save money wherever I can. The wrapping paper is recycled and I made the bows by pulling strips of paper over a scissors blade then looped them in different patterns and taped them in place. Something I learned to do back in 1965.And a short video.

Jeffrey- The scissors and ribbon bow thing must have been popular back then, cause I rememeber as a kid doin the same thing ata about the same time. Ok, mabe a couple years later as I doubt my Mother woulda let me have the scissors at 3 (she was a beautician so our scissors were old hair scissors. long, sharp and pointy. Very pointy), but around '70 she sure would.
Okay...does the diner sell booze? Because I am ready for a double of Napoleon brandy in my coffee.

Time to get back to playing with the trains.
