Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buttermilk pancakes with pure NYS Maple Syrup, bacon, and lots and lots of dark roast coffee tol wash it down with.
"It's a lovely day today.... And whatever you've got to do...." Weather people are calling for all kinds of Doom and Gloom today! We may get a couple inches of rain and about a half inch of ice as well before tomorrow morning. What doesn't seem to be agreed upon is the timing of what comes when... Of course, tonight is the Evergreen Special out at the museum. The train (80 tonner and a couple cabooses) will bring the little kiddies from Industry Station up the line to Midway Station where they will be greeted by Santa Clause (yours truely). After a hearty Santa like greeting, Santa will pose for photos with the little ones out in the pouring rain by the locomotive as possible. Then they head back down the line back to Industry, get some hot chocolate or cider, and go home! I will be in the little Midway Station trying to dry off and get warm while waiting for the next trip.... Sounds like a lot of fun doesn't it! Not sure at what time it will be cancelled if the weather turns really nasty.... Will check my email and the local online news before I head out to the museum.
I nead to make sure my cell phone has a full charge before I leave, put the emergency inverter back in the car and pack an emergency travel kit... Best way to not get into any problems is to be prepared for them!
Need to get going. Lots to do!

Good Evening Gang!
Already time to call it a day here at the computer and retire to the sofa for some dumb movie in the idiot box. I spend most of the day doing some more research for my planned layout, which gave me the idea to develop my own loco for it. I was looking for a more modern critter - just for the ease of construction, as these are fairly square jobs.
I found this as a suitable prototype:
I still have a HO chassis with motor and flywheels which I could use for it, so it will be a somewhat loose interpretation of the prototype. The drawing for it is starting to take shape:
I will finish it tomorrow.
Have a good weekend and an enjoyable 4th Sunday od Advent!
Prayers for Johnboy and all others in need!
Good afternoon. It's 76° with lots of rain. Humidity 82% if you can believe that. The high will be 77°.The cable (therefore internet) has been out all day thus far and is still out. I'm typing this up in Notepad so I can copy and paste it later. I don't have any plans for working on Oliver's adventure today. The power is just too iffy. It's been out for short periods several times already today. Right now I'm entertaining myself watching some old World War II movies. At the moment I'm listening to a historian give her take on 'The Longest Day'. It's pretty interesting.Well it's happened. The dryer went toes up this morning. It still turns and heats but the amount of heat is very very low and it has to be on the highest settings to get that. So my father has admitted defeat and called my niece this morning and told her. Since it's her house that makes the washer and dryer hers too. She says they're both going. She has her eyes on a matching front-loader washer-dryer set. That's all for now.

Hi Guys,
Feeling better. Have some blood work to go to on Monday and a docotors apointment on Tuesday. But I am feeling better. There calling for a ice storm overnight and into Sunday so we will have to wait and see. I have been doing some work on the railroad today.
We just had a line of bad storms whip through here. Lots of wind and rain but only one close lightning strike. We were having dinner at the time. The dog (under the table) tried running for cover and ran into one of the table legs. These are big heavy wood legs so she hit it with quite a wallop. The cat was sitting on the coffee table and jumped about three feet straight up. My father and my step mother bother both jumped but I didn't for some reason. I'm so used to close strikes at my trailer that it really doesn't bother me very much. Now next door my nieces dogs were going bananas. You ever seen a fully grown Great Dane fit under an average sized couch? Hers can. The pit bull just curls up into a tight ball like he's trying to disappear.
JeremyB, glad to hear you are feeling better. I have an appointment Monday too, as long as this ice storm doesn't do what they are forecasting and cut off to the doc's office power. A couple of hours ago Burlington was 27 and Middlebury (about 40 mi south) was 51. We're still at 40, light rain. Just said Burlington has 0.3" of ice, not good.
I've done my best to prevent power failure, have the generator hitched to the tractor, ready to go. All I have to do is start the tractor, put PTO in gear, crank it up, throw the switch. Don't need the mother-in-law getting cold and coming over from her trailer. Hopefully the insurance move will work, if not we're ready.
Good luck to everyone.
Richard
Well
Todya through Monday 7 am, we are under flood warning!
So, IF it floods here { and I PRAY it does not}, that means our electric substation will be under water and flooded, and so, NO ELECTRICITY.
SO, Iff'en y'all don't hear from me, that will be why!
Of course after the floods we have had recently, we all may just sue the electric compan{ies} responsibe too! There will be a large class action as it is not just us in the trailer park.
It is bad to be afraid of flooding now as the power goes out for 5 days automatically because the power company won't move a substation in the flood plain! It willl freeze the trailer and may burst pipes even the PEX ones we have. Because of freezing temps are coming behind the flooding.
Oh well
Have a safe, good night all, especially those in Icy climes now!

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
HO! HO! HO! Merry Christmas!!!
Ahem... Still in Santa mode I guess. Had a ball out at the museum playing the patron Saint of Mal Wart for the evening. We were sold out for both runs. Had all the usual crew out there working. I got to give each "Good little Girl and Boy" a candy cane as a reminder I would be there on Christmas Eve to bring them all toys! I also looked around the crowed and told them my elves were right I wouldn't need the bag of coal as all these were nice children!!!
It was a clod steady rain though so we made the formalities short and got them back aboard the train to ride back to Industry Station from the North Pole... (Midway Station about a mile North on the line.) The evening was fraught with some problems, but nothing the guests really knew about. They had our 45 tonner BeeBee Station (1941) all fired up and ready to do duty when I got there, but one of the Prime Movers quit. Seems she was out of coolant. We are hoping she just has a leak somewhere and not a victim of some vandalism. So she was taken out of service using the other prime mover and replaced with our old standby the 80 Tonner 1654. Then on the first trip we heard a bunch of radio conversations that one of the brakes on the old Erie Caboose was stuck on and they couldn't move the train... Everyone was on board waiting for there ride to the North Pole at the time... Took about 10 minutes to fix the problem and they headed North. I was glad when we were finished and I headed out for home. No ice here yet but they are saying there could be 3/4" on the trees by morning.
Galaxy, if I could, I'd come down there and power your home with the PiP. I have 1000w pure sine wave inverter (2000w peak) in it. If the pwer goes out here it will provide me with enough power to run the sump, refrigerator, and a few other things. Good luck, I'll keep you folks in my prayers!
I have to go out and plug in the plug in, just in case there is still power in the morning and I go to church. My granddaughters are in the Christmas Pagaent being done in the 10:30 service tomorrow. Don't want to miss that!
Have a safe and warm night... Prayers for all in need!
Well it's been a very wet and uneventful day. The power went down a couple of times but only for very short periods. The cable went out in the wee hours of the morning and was off until a bit after noon. Several storms swept through during the day. As a result I only had three or four hours of internet time. No progress on Oliver's adventure today. I did get in some practice at going up and down steps when I was checking out the dryer this morning. I did finally get it to work but everything has to set at maximum and even then each load has to be run through two or three times. Some of the dial settings are no longer working. It's very definitely dying. My niece has already picked out a matching front loader washer/dryer set and they are big. Not the biggest home units you can get but they're close.Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Good Morning Folks!
I woke up way too early this morning, as my heart attempted to win the Capetown Races. It´s down to its usual beat now, but I will sure have this checked up tomorrow, first thing in the morning.
It´s Sunday, the 4th Sunday of Advent, so we will light up the 4th candle this afternoon.
Made use of the extra time I gained and finished the drawing of that critter. Gn15 locos always look a little out of proportion, but as long as it looks as a "could-have-been", it´s OK with me.
Here is the drawing:
Tt´s really a fair and square job to built this one, the only parts I need to turn on my improvised lathe are the air intake cap and the exhaust pipe. All other parts can be made from 1mm styrene sheet. The mechanism will be borrowed from that tram model I still have.
This is the way it´ll look when painted:
... and "integrated" into my layout plan:
Gives you a feeling for the size of that beast.
Time for breakfast! Janie, I´ll go for my big Sunday breakfast, but be easy with the coffee, please!
Make it a great day!
still here and not raining now, but more coming! May just give us the break we need!
Morning guys.
That ice storm came through last night. The trees, power lines and roads are all covered in it. The car looks like a ice block. Its suppose to wamr up later on and melt which will be good. I have to go have blood taken tomorrow, if its nasty out might put it off until the new year. See how things are in the morinng, and if I feel like going over, lol
A little more picture painting done:
Cutle lil´ critter!
Good morning. It's 55° with 100% humidity. Isolated showers continue this morning. The high will be 65° with isolated showers this morning then partial clearing later. This morning with . This afternoon No plans set in stone today. I need to get in more practice going up and down steps. This leg has a flexible ankle and that tends to throw me off a little if I'm not careful. I can get up and down steps now if I pay close attention to where ad how I place my feet and I don't dare do it while carrying something. That'll have to wait until I have more experience.I may be able to do some work on Oliver's adventure. I've decided that one of the things he'll encounter in the Kings Port and Western baggage car is a caged pterodactyl. A living exhibit from The Land of the Lost.

I'm a small town boy. A product of two people from even smaller towns. I don’t talk on topic….. I just talk.
That ice storm has made quite a mess around here. There are trees limbs down all over and alot of peoples bushes are flat to the ground, im sure they will perk up once the ice melts we usually get bushes flatten by snow. My rose of sharon is kind of flat so am hoping it pops back up after the ice melts. We only have a few small trees in the backyard but the neighbor has some that hang over into our yard.
Good Evening!
Will be calling it a day soon. I spend nearly all day long drawing a set of construction drawings for that critter. Got some info on the prototype from folks in a German forum, which I incorporated into the final drawing.
Here is the colored version of it:
There are a number of open questions on actually building it, but I am positive I´ll find the right answers. In any case, this one will have sound (2-cyl. Diesel), flashing beacons and a siren (just to tax Petra´s nerves when I am running it
Tomorrow I will have to work down a mile long HD list Petra just now told me. Getting the household ready for Christmas. We will spend Christmas Eve at my son´s place and are not expecting anybody to pay us a visit on Christmas Day or the day after, but anyhoo, it´s Christmas and the home has to be ready for it ...
Special prayers for Johnboy!
Afternoon folks!
Chloe, I'll have a Roast Beef Club Sandwich and a cup of decaf for lunch today.
Church today was the annual Pagaent put on by the Sunday School. Granddaughters were: #1 was thee Star! #2 was the cutest little sheep who spent her time looking at the Baby in the manger. They both did their roles perfectly (well Grandpa thought so!) and both seemed to be enjoying thgemselves up there. Found out after church that DIL and some others in the family are sick with something going around so dinner will not be at their house tonight. I'll use the time for some hobby stuff!!!
Today is cloudy and gray but otherwise pleasent here in the Finger Lakes. We didn't get any of the freezing stuff that they got in Rochester and to the west to Lake Erie. Having an emergency power source seems to prevent ice storms I think... Creeks and streams are overflowing their banks in a few places, but nothing causing much problem. Batavia, NY has some flooding with some streets closed this morning, and I know of some other problems from the rain, but nothing we can't handle easily. I need to check out the sump and make sure I don't water in the basement.... Hmmmm!
Later!
erm
GOOD TO see Ulrich in here!
we are still here! No flooding power outage YET.
I see Ray is fine, too. 'cept maybe H20 in his basment!
It is 62F here in late December!
The storm seems to have passed us so it is less of a worry, but the flooding as runoff continues will be a 'nother story.
The sn*W is all gone. GOod riddance.
Helping MOH "self assert" in working situation today. Has MOH all in an uproar, who has been sick the past 2 days. Maybe a bug, may be the situation.Maybe what RAY'S DIL had. Maybe NOT. "WHAT we have here, Captain, is what we call a 'Situation'..." "Yes, I see, Number One"...
I am recovering from a weather-related migraine from yesterday.
Dinner will be dead pig roasted, french style greened beans, and tom-Pesto/basil-mozz-noodle salad! YUM! At 4:45pm SHARP!
Well, see yous all in the mornin'.
Gd' Day Gang,
Thought I should stop by and give you an update on the medical goings on with this old Phart.
Chloe, when you get a moment, I'll have a Double Denver with the crusts cut off, and an RBF for a late lunch.
Well, I have two more appointments after about the two dozen I have had so far, and they will be tomorrow and Tuesday. I will see the radiation Doctor on Monday as well as another blood test. That will be four of them. and on Tues. I will be fitted fot a radiation mask to protect the parts of my head that they don't want to hit with the force. That will mainly be my eyes as they want to get the throat, back of my tongue and the lymph nodes on the sides of my neck. They say it is the second most aggresive cancer that there is, so I say lets get at it, it has taken too long to get to this point. Really hoping and praying I don't lose my tongue and vocal chords. I don't want to even think about that. Am I scared ? You bet I am.... But I am trying to stay focused positively and will try to keep my eye on that wee small light at the end of this tunnel that hopefully I will emerge from in three to four months.
On a lighter note, I started to build the highway that is along the front edge of the north section of the LM&E. This will be somewhat like Terry's in Wisconcin where the road isn't always the full width but narrows in several places. I didn't want it level either so I built it up with some foam pieces then to make the transitions I used a piece of this wall panelling and by screwing it down at both ends it took on the transition really good and made it solid enough to support the road surface. This I made out of a strip of rolled roofing I had left over from roofing a shed two years ago. Putting it on upside down, the back side of it really made a good looking asphalt surface. Behind this is two ground level tracks, then the Feather River, then up into the mountains and the two Honey Moon tunnels that are raised about 6 inches on the main line. At the west end of the road it curves to the left as it would be going over to another section of the layout. At the curve there will be a little gravel road access to a campground that has been sitting there with trailers but no ground cover for far too long. For asphalt I do recommend trying the back side of shingles or rolled roofing though. I quite like it. Looks great.
I probably won't be back in before Christmas so I want to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you a very Merry and Joyeous Christmas. I hope you get to spend some of it with your loved ones and do tell them how much you love and care for them. I have become very aware lately how easy it is for us to take them for granted. I will not let that happen again. But I do know that you all know the reason for the Season and that sits well with me. NO DRINKING AND DRIVING THOUGH...... OK ?
You all have been very gracious in your thoughts and prayers for me (Candles too ) and I do so appreciate that and need all I can get to battle this curse.
Ulrich, I love the Lil critter and the scene you have developed. I want to see that come to life soon. Take Care of yourself good Buddy.

Well the new washer and dryer came today. Watching my sister and my niece unload them was better than watching the Marx Brothers at the circus! I even applauded once they had both units on the ground. They were being real careful getting them into the house. With a price tag of around two grand they certainly didn't want to damage them. Now that the new units were cluttering up the living room it was time to move the old units out which only took fifteen minutes. Then came time to start hooking up the new ones. When they took out the old washer they took out all the hoses and connectors with it. I told them they were gonna need the 'Y' connector that allowed one wall tap to connect to both the cold and hot water connections on the washer. "No we don't, there's two faucets on the wall". Turn the hot one on I said. My sister turns it on. Nothing! Surprise, surprise. "Oh well, we can connect one hose to the cold water connector and just leave the hot one as it is (unblocked)". I told them to have a bucket ready when they test the washer. "No water will come out. It's blocked from the inside. Water can go in but it can't come out". Uh-huh, you go on thinking that. My niece was behind the machine when my sister turned it on and almost instantly I hear these screams of "turn it off, turn it off!". She was soaked from the waist down. All I said was I told you so.Got a little work done on Oliver's adventure. He's inside the baggage car at least. Hasn't seen anything yet though. Also found another spot in the socket of my leg that's giving me a bit of discomfort. Remember the little bump that was filed off? Well the ridge that bump was on was the culprit this time time around. I put a sanding drum on the Dremel and carefully ground the ridge until it was smooth then put the leg back on. Much better! But man, carbon fiber and Kevlar makes a dusty mess!Got in a lot of walking practice and going up and down low steps.
Howdy ...
Wow! .. That is a really big storm affecting lots of people!
Kinda busy with family visiting. Last night was an adventure. We lost power at about 6:00 pm. One of our neighbors had a "black out party" because they had a power generator. We walked in very heavy rain in a tornado watch to their house. Other neighbors were there too. Regular power came back on and we all went home.
I took grandkids to Gus's house and just got back. He ran trains for the grandkids, and this was a near disaster. He has a gate with track going across the top for the main line. He has an electrical circuit to kill power while the gate is open. He installed that after an E9 ran off the layout and onto the floor at that location a couple of years ago. ...... For the first time the circuit failed to stop a train this afternoon while we were there. He had a gate open, and a train did not stop. It was a passenger train with three E-units pulling it. .... Fortunately I saw it happening and was close enough to leap over to the open gate. The first E-unit (an E7A) was already off the layout, and I caught it in mid air. The second unit (an E7B) was running off the layout next, and I caught it with my other hand. I placed the B-unit under the arm with A unit in hand, and was able to catch the third unit (an E8B) ... Close call. No damage. .... Gus is now repairing his circuit. ... I may join the circus and juggle E-units to entertain people.
JohnBoy ... Thanks for the update. Prayers continue. ....

EVERYWHERE LOST; WE HUSTLE OUR CABOOSE FOR YOU
John-Boy, good to hear from you. You're right, it's no joke, but the doctors are getting better at this all the time. A friend of mine had "shaped" radiation treatment for prostate cancer. He kept up his good spirits despite the treatment, and even reported on it at lunchtime when he returned to work.
Well, our ski trip turned out to be less than perfect. Easy trip up, and a nice dinner at the Korean-Japanese place in town. Hot Stone Bibimbop is a dish I must have every ski season. I got out first, as the ladies slept in. We had a free pass for daughter Annie, who is no longer a college student eligible for that huge discount. But, she forgot and left the passes home. But, I asked "Do they have numbers on them?" and she got her roommate to take a picture and send it in. The ticket office was happy with this wonder of technology, so she got out on the mountain before lunch, along with wife Penny. We skied a few runs, and then I went in for lunch, being the only one on a normal schedule. I went out afterwards to light rain, but skied until the end of the day. Sunday was a total bust, with miserable freezing rain, and all but one low-down lift shut down. Fortunately, the drive back was nowhere near as bad as predicted.
Right now, though, it looks like my cable TV box has died. Bah.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Good luck, John Boy! My prayers are with you.

Terry: Hello. I have not seen you in quite a while.
Johnboy: I hope you are doing better. Keep thinking positive.
Jeff: I laughed hard at the story about the ladies connecting the new washer! I would have paid admission to see Morgan get soaked. That had to be a screamer!
Galaxy: I hope you do not get flooded out up there.
Ulrich: I hope you are doing better. Critter drawings look good.
Mr B: I am happy that you are having some fun. So many peeps today work and work and work, myself included, until they do not know what fun is anymore and have to go to Wallyworld to buy themselves a personallity.
Healing thoughts and prayers to those that need them.

The new washer and dryer were successfully installed and have handled three loads of laundry so far. The laundry room floor is still dry at this time. It's 36° now, humidity 94%, it's supposed to get down to 32° by morning. At least it's not raining.Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
