Evenin' folks....

Chloe, just a cup ofr hot chocolate to tide me over 'til I head over to me son's house for the New Years Eve get together.  Notice I didn't say party.  We are all getting too old to really do much "Partying" I guess.  They will open a bottle of champagna right before Dick Clark mumbles something like "Why am I here?  Is something going on?"  And the big Ball falls out of the sky and evertybody dances around acting like mental migets on the cold streets of New Yolk.... Then I will put my coat on and head back home unless I still feel like a few more hands of Euchre, then I'l head home...

Got a bit more done on the project today, I did!  Walls going up:

Walls in place:

I will reinforce the backs of the Octagon after it has dried.  Then I will need to clean up the joints a bit before proceding to the roof and base.

A Very Happy Moo... uh, Gnu...  Hmmm, Oh! Happy New Year to all!

Thoughts and prayers Johnboy

Not much going on here. The wife has a bad cold so will probably be in bed early, I wont be far behind as I was up early to get blood work done. Got a letter in the mail from the goverment saying they something along the lines of "woops we made a mistake on you taxes from last year and yadyaya you owe is  $70. Nice little gift from them Id say. I will have my aunt who does our taxes look at it tomorrow after new years dinner but Im sure I will end up having to pay it. I guess its not that bad.

Might do a little railroad work if thw wife goes to bed early, what I dont know. I was suppose to have some freight car kits coming today but that doesn look like it will be until Thursday now. I usually get a dozen or so kits right after christmas and that will be my freight car addition for the year. I have a backlog at the moment of close to 200 that need weathering. I only have about 100 weathered.

If Im not in tonight. Have a good new years guys and leats hope 2014 will be good for all os us both financially and health wise. See you next year ( tomorrow )

Rub it in, why don'tcha, V8Vega Dennis!

WE probably will do for New Years eve what we have done the past several ones. GO to bed, set the alarm for 11:30, get up watch the ball fall, toast teh new year, then go back to bed next year.

Nothing serious at our house anymore. Our partying till 2 am days are well over.

WIll call the Drs. office to see if my script is ready and go get it if it is. Hope so before they close, if they haven't already! Nope, htey closed. you get a hangup noise when they have. grumble grumble grumble. They lie, I called it in yesterday and it always says "your script will be ready by the close of the next business day" and it is not true. They call you when it is ready. I have t o tell them they need to change that!

WEll, a dull night here..

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO THOSE who ALREADY have it!

Good morning. It's 39° with 89% humidity. The high will be 48° and feel like 52°.

I guess I'll be taking a break today. Most of the left side of my body feels like it's still asleep. This is nothing new, I've had tingling on my left side for a few years. It's usually not quite this intense though. I have been pulling some really late nighters though and that could be part of the problem.

Morning Charlie,  and the rest of the Gang,

I never got your PM Charlie,  last one showing is from Galaxy on Dec. 14th.

Keep your chin up Buddy, it is starting to warm up.. It is only -25c in the Queen City this morning.

A couple of more tests to go, one after lunch today and I am told the treatments will start on the 13th.

I am feeling worse by the day,  hope they haven't waited to long to get started.

Have to have faith that they know what they are doing.  The Good Lord willing, I'll make it.

A Very Happy New Year to all the Diners and expect that Vinnie will keep it open until the wee small hours of the 1st.

Good Morining,

Well Winterpeg is really living up to its namesake this morning. At 10 a. m. it is -34F with a windchill of -54, yes you read that correctly. I certainly won't be going outside today! Mind you it is sunny and dry.

With the cold we haven't being doing very much of anything. Far too much time in front of the telie watching the videos we took on our trip to Botswana and South Africa last April. The TV is in the basement room but we have a gas fireplace there so it gets rather warm after a while.

We have no plans for tonight. At one time we used to go out for dinner on New Years Eve but haven't done that for probably 10 years.

Ray, that blacksmith shop is looking absolutely amazing. You are a real craftsman.

My RR progress has been slight. I did put a diesel sound decoder under the N scale layout and will just put that decoder into a consist with the engine running, or at least that is the plan. I will set it for an Alco 244 as most of my diesels are Alcos. I might get another decoder sometime and set it for a GMD but I only have 2 GMD's, a GP9 and F7.

Garry, any news from Johnboy? I sent him a PM but didn't hear back.

Galaxy.... Thanks for psoting about Auld Lang Syne. Are you planning to wear your kilts and sing to us?Music

Well, I'd hike up me kilt and belt out a few lines...oh, HECK, NO! Y'all DON'T WANT TO HEAR ME SING! I mean it!

I recently went to the ENT Dr. to find out why my voice so raspy, he said "the false vocal chords were doing the work" and that "we don't take out the false chords because they cover and protect the real chords". He suggested Speach therapy if I wanted to TRY to improve my voice, but offered NO GUARANTEE with that either. I asked about singin lessons, he thought speach therapy more like it.

SO, NO, I'll spare your ears!

Mornin' everyone! A happy last day of the year to all of you!

Zoe. I'll have the #2 special today.  Over easy eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of the wonderful sour dough toast you have.  Oh yes, need lots and lots of Seneca Lake Blend Dark roast coffee to keep my R&GV RR mug filled.

I went to replace the little tiny screens in my hearing aids last night.  My left one wasn't working at all, thought it might be a dead battery, replaced that and nope...  Looked at the screen and it was completely plugged.  Got out the new screen with it's little tool used to take out the old screen and then out the new one in place and the old screen didn't want to come out!  Grrrr...  So I wiggled it some more and twisted and yep it came out, but with the entire sleeve that it goes into along with it!  I put the hearing aid back in my ear wigthout the screen assembly and gee, now I can hear!  Just tried to call the hearing center and they are closed for the holiday...  I'll call first thing on Thursday to get it repaired.  In the meantime I can hear the best I have in a long time in my Laft ear.....

I see Ulrich has the big yellow thing at his house!  That may be why it doesn't shine much around here. Whistling  Looks great sir!

...Galaxy, I don't mind Auld Lang Syne at all...  Great old Celtic Song!  But please don't turn on the Guy Lumbago version!!!  I can't take the horrible vibrato. Bang Head

Thanks for the comments on the Blacksmith Shop guys!  I can't wait to see how it comes out myself... Whistling

I will be going over to my son's house to ring in the new year....  By midnight we will be into a few hands of euchre or I will be Zzz.  Hope the weather holds good for the day!

Have a great day where ever you are and stay safe my friends!

Isn´t that yellow something! It helps us to control our energy bill - it glows at night, so we can switch the lights off!

That´s not the yellow the real model will have, I can assure you. It hurts my eyes.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a couple blueberry Pop-Tarts please. Thanks.

Cold.

Busy day today. Groceries delivered today and I have an errand to run this morning and some housecleaning, then Brenda’s gonna have her eye squirters opened up and dialated (sp?). Her appointment’s at 2pm and I w*rk at 5 so there won’t be much time between probably. You know how doctors appointments are. Last time she went right in at appointment time, but they didn’t do anything then, and I didn’t have to w*rk either. This time they’ll probably take their sweet lonesome time.

Sounds like the restaurant has a bunch of reservations so I should be pretty busy tonight as well. Then, probably just spend the rest of the year there. We don’t go out on the “drunk nights” anymore. We used too, but we’d go out and be back by say 9pm, about the time others are starting to wind up, then we’d stop at the restaurant and “wind down” even farther. I kinda like it when New Years Eve falls on a day I w*rk, that way we can stay out of town and out of the mess. Guess I’m just getting old.

Ya’ll have a good day, and a safe and Happy New Years Eve.  ya hear!!!!

Flo, Coffee and cake this morning please!!

Ray, The blacksmith shop looks amazing so far, can't wait to see it done!

Ulrich, Wow, the engine looks great, Bow but that yellow!! Anybody seen my sunglasses??Cool

Howdy Gang!

Looking at another day, partly cloudy and a high of 42.Indifferent  Not a whole lot going on today, just getting ready for tonight's festivities. SWMBO and I are actually going to be out tonight! Son #2 is hosting a New Year's bash at his house! DrinksLaugh Since it is about an hour away, so we have reserved a spare bedroom there! It will be us and about a dozen of his friends, who are all a blast to hang out with. And of course, there will be music, libations (for those who surrender their keys upon arrival) and the "old folks" are bringing Cards Against Humanity with them. Its an insanely funny adult card game, that goes for hours with the right group!Laugh

Train wise, I did remotor my brass Baldwin 4-4-1500 yesterday, and slapped a decoder in it. I used a motor out of a "donor" Walthers FA1 and I'm tempted to go back and replace the trucks too from the FA1. That incessant whining from the gear towers was getting on my nerves last night. Plus I got an eBay lot in the mail yesterday. 3 Mantua shells, a Penn Line Midget diesel shell and an old Hustler. I put bands on the Hustler last night and it took off like a rocket! Not sure if I'm gonna keep it yet. I only bought the lot for the Mantua shells. Everything went into the stripper tank last night(lousy paint jobs) so we'll see.

In case I don't get back later,

Happy New Year!! Smile

May the New Year bring health and prosperity to us all! Angel

Good Morning on this very last day of the year 2013!

I am certainly not unhappy about this year coming to an end. It has been a  year of challenges and grief, and too little happiness. I do hope, that 2014 will be a much better year for all of us!

Special thoughts and prayers to all friends in need - and also thoughts and prayers for those on the mile long MIA list!

I´ll be finishing the cardboard mock-up toda. Only a small detail is missing - the windshield wipers. Building the real modell will be my 2014 project - I doubt that I´ll be able to start on a layout next year. There are some health issues I need to take care of.

CU next year and make it a great day!

morning coffee in the diner..

GOOD TUESDAY MORNING!

Today is

December 31, 2013!

It is the 365th day of 2013!

The end is nigh!

Ever wonder about that old ditty "Auld Lang Syne"?:

Meaning: The Anglicized version of 'auld lang syne', which means old long-since or old long-ago.

Origin:

The phrase has been a commonplace in Scots for centuries and isn't far removed from the English 'once upon a time'. Of course, the best-known use of the phrase is Robert Burns' poem Auld lang syne, the words of which are sung in English-speaking countries around the world each New Year's Eve, to a tune that Burns said he transcribed from an old man's singing of it.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne?

Chorus:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And surely ye’ll be your pint-stowp!

And surely I’ll be mine!
And we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

We twa hae run about the braes,
and pou’d the gowans fine;
But we’ve wander’d mony a weary fit,
sin’ auld lang syne.

We twa hae paidl’d in the burn,
frae morning sun till dine;
But seas between us braid hae roar’d
sin’ auld lang syne.

And there’s a hand, my trusty fiere!
And gies a hand o’ thine!
And we’ll tak a right gude-willie-waught,
for auld lang syne.

Burns' version builds on earlier works. Poems and songs with somewhat similar text have been found dating back as far as anonymous ballad in the Bannatyne Manuscript of 1568. Another version, the first that contains a form of the 'auld lang syne' phrase, is attributed to the courtly poet Sir Robert Ayton (1570-1638).

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never thought upon,
The flames of love extinguished,
And freely past and gone?
Is thy kind heart now grown so cold
In that loving breast of thine,
That thou canst never once reflect
On old-long-syne

 MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!

Special thoughts and prayers go out to those in need!

My internet connection is getting a workout. Remember the site I said had lots of software for my //e? I have a mega download of all the recorded Apple II software they have in progress. No, scratch that. It just completed! Now it have it being copied to another drive just in case. It's in the form of a .ZIP file and it's 197MB in size and contains many hundreds, maybe a couple thousand .DSK files! Almost all of the files are less than 60 kilobytes in size. They consist of applications, compilations, demonstrations, educational content, games and operating systems. I think I got everything they had for the II, II+, IIe and IIc. I don't know. The Wal-Mart and Walgreen's here may run low on SD cards before I run out of software ROM's. Jeez! I didn't realize they had SO much! OK, the copy to the solid state drive is now complete. That alone took about ten minutes.

Does anybody know if there's something that can safely store say ten of fifteen SD cards at a time? I mean something that's actually made to do that job.

It's now 12:20am Later today my father will be putting the black-eye peas on to cook. To that he'll add ham hocks, cabbage, rice, some bacon or salt pork. Cornbread and collard greens will be provided as side dishes. That's pretty much our traditional New Years day meal.

Been busy recoding some programs today. All were set up to run on Apple II computers but some for II's, some for II+'s, some for IIe's. They're all Apple II's so what's the big deal right? Mostly the way the memory is set up. The Apple II and II+ take 16k extra memory from a memory card and bank switch it over their ROM memory so whatever is stored in THAT extra memory can be used as if it's IN ROM and it doesn't detract much from the 48k of main RAM memory which can be used for running software. The IIe on the other hand takes 64k of extra memory from a memory card and bank switches it over it's 64k of main RAM memory giving it 128k RAM. This leaves more space in the main RAM for running software as program data can be stored and executed in the 64k of extra RAM. It only has 16k of ROM memory and nothing from the memory card can be stored or used there. Is everybody confused now? An additional compication but nothing I can't remedy is that some of these programs were made to run from 13-sector diskettes in DOS 3.2. I'll be running them from 16-sector diskettes in DOS 3.3 so unless the were converted at the time the were stored as ROM's I may have to convert some of them. The CP/m programs aren't a problem as my computer has a Z80 co-processor.

Hey, I came across some really old programs. Who remembers Wordstar? Anybody? maybe this will jump start your memory:

I'll be posting some photos in the near future from some of the software I found. It's gonna be fun transferring this stuff to floppy disks.

Been getting in some more walking today and I'm getting much better going up and down steps. However I still have to see where I'm putting the feet so carrying something in front of me is still problematic.

HI Guys,

Just thought I would check in. I have to go for bloodwork tomorrow morning. Cant eat after 7pm tonight, no big deal. I will go early for 7am to get it out of the way. Maybe just spend the night flipping through some MR magazines.

Talk to you guys in the morning.

Good afternoon.

Inch ... Thanks for commenting. I thought people would see humor in my name choce for the company being picketed. Hope you are OK now.

Todd ... Thanks for the remark. All figures are held in place with clear adhesive called "Goop". I looked up Hostess logos and printed two for a building which had no signs. The building is a background building.

Ulrich ... I'm very impressed with the model locomotive made from cardboard. Amazing work.

Ray .... Your blacksmith shop is outstanding so far.

We're still busy with holiday visits and also lots of birthdays.

Happy model railroading.
