Good morning.
Public service announcement
In case you did nit see the news, there has been a major identity theft. If you used your credit card or debit card in a Traget Store from November 27th through December 15th, your data has been stolen. If so, you should contact the card company to replace your card.
We avoid using our credit cards and I'm glad we do. Shelley and her friends were shopping at Target a fews days ago. Shelley paid cash for her stuff, but all of her friends used credit cards.
Regarding model railroading, my friend Gus will be here later this morning, and we will be debugging assorted DCC problems.
Ulrich ... Good to see you.
Jeremy ... Glad you are feeling OK, and I hope the doctors can solve the problem. Now you can somewhat empathize with the older guys who have heart issues.
Galaxy .... I have had too many people who improtune in my life.
Happy Model Railroading

Can you not buy a disposable credit card at Walmart or someplace. Or do German laws not permit this.

Lion - we don´t have that type of card here in Germany. My credit rating with the banks is in such a good shape that none of them would ever issue a credit card, not even a debit card. I am a cash-only person...
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, just a refil of my dark roast coffee, please....
Took Blackie to the vet. Mixed news. His sugar is still higher than it should be, but better thajn it was, and in the absence of anything symptomatic, the vet is keeping on the pills. He can't have any kittie treats anymore... He will not be happy! I will hand feed his brother treats when he wants them. She said he could have just a bit of the canned food as a treat (the stuff they both were throwing up when they first were on the diabetic diet), or I can freeze some of the dry food as some cats like it that way as a treat for some reason. Go figure. I will see what I can do for the little guy. I want to avoid having to check his blood sugar daily and giving him insulin.
I guess I just read another good reason to avoid the "Big Box" stores. I check my CU accounts daily including my Credit Card. My info may have been compromized in the mess with Adobe a month or so ago. I will be signing up for the credit check through the company they are using to help their customers. Galaxy, there are some good reasons to just use cash, I don't like to carry a whole lot of Pictures of dead presidents on my person though....
The big yellow thing has been peeking out from behind some clouds most the day so far. The roof panels are finally cleared, so I may just make a couple kWh of electricity today. First time in over a week....
Later!

I got to the clinic this morning and showed the doc exactly what was going on with the prosthesis and he took it into the back room and did some grinding on it. He brought it back and showed me what he'd done. The piece he filed down is very small and I didn't think it would make much of a difference. Boy was I wrong! It's like a new prosthesis! I can walk around with some ease now and it doesn't feel like the thing is trying to dig a hole in my knee. I also asked him about the possibility of making it waterproof for the shower. He says nada, nix, nein, no way! The best thing is to put a waterproof cast and wound protector on it. So we stopped at Walgreen's and got one. It looks like it's made of the same stuff we used for vinyl lined swimming pool patches.
Good afternoon - temperatures in the 30s with some sun, but not enough to do much melting.
I use cash only at my LHS. It's one of the few places I do that. Remember, the merchants pay for the service, so by using cash I save my LHS a bit of money. For a chain restaurant or big-box store, I don't really care about saving them money, but an LHS can use it and it costs me no more. I use cash at the local watering hole, too. If some of those tips don't get reported to the IRS, well, it's not my problem.
My daughter wanted a credit card now that she's out of college and working. (Yes, working! Imagine that!) She has a card on our account for emegencies, but she wanted one of her own, and she's always been responsible. She worried that she had no credit history and wouldn't get one, but I pointed out that she's had a checking/savings account at the bank, and the card they offered was pretty good. They were happy to give her a card.
Still not skiing. SWMBO came down with a bad cold Tuesday night. One of her "folk remedies" is to make a garlic tea and drink it. Unfortunately, the boiling garlic stinks up the whole house. I keep the train room and office doors closed so I don't have to inhale it. It gives me a headache and I get what seems like sinus pressure behind my eyes. Strangely, she was talking to the doctor on the phone this morning, and those were the same symptoms she described. Hmmmmmm.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
Evening All,
Hope everyone is doing well. Hard to believe Christmas is less than a week away, seems like it should still be March.
I spent around 3-4 hours working on layout frame work today. My son helped me at the end and now I feel stiff after all the bending I have done today. Next week I plan on painting it.
Dennis- Very nice work on the cabin car.
Jeremy- I am glad you are doing better. As a EMS provider I would much rather deal with a issue as it is starting as compared to as it becomes life threatning. Don't be afraid or embarresed to call. What I can't believe is that the hospital kept you waiting. Around here, saying you have CP gets you a immediate EKG. Take care of yourself.
Jeff- Glad you and your leg are doing better.
John Boy- Praying that you are doing well.
Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

Hey Gang!
Flo, I think I'll have a banana split, no nuts, extra cherries please!
It's finally above freezing up here, and the constant sound of water trickling down the rainspouts from the melting was a welcome sound! Yesterday I even managed to traipse through the back yard to dump the woodstoves ash buckets out behind the shed. Thats where I found the branch. During the storm the snow must have been to much for one of the pine trees behind the shed. There I found a large pine bough, about 20 ft long, and 8 inches around laying on top of the cart that I pull behind the tractor for "lawn chores". Luckily there was no real damage to the cart or the shed. (or the new tractor inside the shed) Once all the mud & slop has a chance to dry a bit, I'll dispatch it with the chain saw & the wood chipper. The weather is supposed to be great for a few days. 50's tomorrow and Saturday, and 60's Sunday!!
So todays plan WAS to install a lockable switch on the furnace at SWMBO's work, then I was going to come home , get a few tubs of firewood inside, and do some modeling. But, the part I needed was across town, then SWMBO's car wouldnt start this morning. (crank, no start) So I had to drive to the Grainger store across town to get what I needed. I had to take SWMBO with me. This was good & bad. Good because she bought breakfast on the way, and bad because I had to get her to work, which meant I couldn't sneak a visit to M.B.Klein (modeltrainstuff.com) right down the street from Grainger! Got SWMBO to work, fixed the furnace, got a copy of the cars electrical system from a buddy, went home diagnosed the fault, went & got a new ignition switch, installed it, went and picked up SWMBO, then grocery store, then home. Whew! 106 miles of driving today. Oh, and I have to be in downtown B-more for an interview tomorrow morning. I can't wait till they perfect transporter beams!!
Johnboy, Jeremy, Ulrich, continued prayers for your health.
Ray, I understand the kitties feeding issue. Midnight is diabetic with his "special food", Tink has "special food" for urinary tract issues. When our backs are turned, they eat each others food. Short of locking one upstairs and one in the basement, we can't win. So we concentrate on Midnights sugar levels and adjust the med to suit, and leave it at that otherwise we're

NCE über alles!
Karl, glad to hear there wasn't much damage from the pine branch falling.
Well it's been a good day. We went to the clinic in DeRidder this morning and got the problem with the prosthesis corrected. It's much more comfortable now and I can walk around with some ease instead of having to struggle with it. I've been getting in some short bits of walking. Things like when I had to go relieve myself I'd park my chair in my room and walk the twenty-some-odd feet to the bathroom then walk back after I finished. The longest bit I got was walking the length of three aisles at Walgreen's. My poor knee was so tired the muscles around the knee cap were so tight they ached. I also got some more practice going up and down some small steps. This afternoon my father went over to my place and started construction a small wood porch to take the place of the dangerous crude concrete block steps I have there. Those blocks plus some others will be supporting the porch. He says it'll be a five inch step up from the ground to the porch then another five inch step up into the doorway of my trailer. He asked me when I think I'll be ready to move back over there. I told him It'll be within a couple of months for sure but not until I feel I'm ready.Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Karl: I live not to far away from wholesaletrains.com {Lantz hobby shop} so I KNOW what a pleasure it is to get near a LHS like THAT! I would LOVE to get a chance to see MBKlien,.
Wholesaletrains.com' s brick adn mortar store has less inventory "in stock" now than it did, oh, about 2 years ago. I wonder if it is the same at MBKlien?

Morning guys
Haven't been in in a while as my defualt browser (Internet Exlporer) keeps saying it can't find this site. So I'm using Google chrome now.
Been pretty busy on the MR front. I put together a few more kits, and helped set up and maintain the MR club's modular layout that's being part of a christmas display. I still think one of my SD40-2s has a bent frame as the front pilot sits really high. I'm gonna swap the frames with my spare after work today or tomorrow morning.
I'll be catching up in the corner

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....
2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
PackerHaven't been in in a while as my defualt browser (Internet Exlporer) keeps saying it can't find this site. So I'm using Google chrome now.
Dump the cashe (history) on the IE browser and it will work just fine.
Good morning. It's 68° with 98% humidity. The high will be 75°. with Not much going on this morning. Just watching it get darker as the clouds build up. There are sparrows all over the back yard snapping up anything they can find. I'd sure hate to be a bug out there.Put my leg on this morning and stood up to test the fit. Ouch. Too tight. had to take it loose and take off a sock (had two on) and try it again. Much better. If it isn't too wet outside later I'll go out and practice going up and down some five inch high steps in front of the house. Going up isn't too much of a problem. It's coming down that can be hair raising. The guy who told me I'd have to learn to walk all over again wasn't kidding.I don't have any plans to work on Oliver's adventure but if I do he'll be starting to explore the baggage car. I've been toying with the idea of throwing in a caged pterodactyl. Yes I know they're extinct but anything can happen in a computer game.
Mornin'..... er... ahem! Afternoon folks!
Zoe, I see you're still on duty. Is it too late to get breakfast? 24 hours a day? Great! I'll have the #2 special, over easy eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of sour dough toast.
I've been out shopping for wrapping paper, bows, and the obligatory flavoring for the egg nog... Myers Dark! Also got some Comforting Southern stuff to sip from time to time..... the 100 proof old style variety!!! Now I have to get doing all the wrapping and imbibing I guess!
Hope to do more on the door of the Blacksmith's Shop today also.
hope I can do this I haven't talked in here and wanted to thank jeffery for getting me back into the forms. So if it works THANK YOU JEFFERY

We went to Wal-Mart today. My father had to get some things for the house and I needed to get a bottle of Tums antacid tablets. I have GERD and they help relieve it. Couldn't find a ride-on cart this trip so I had to walk. Fortunately the section with the antacids isn't far from the checkout and doors. My leg is a bit sore after that workout.
Somewhat of a busy day today. I wrapped a few gifts that hadn't been done. Later the 'FloppySD' that my niece and I had ordered as a gift for me came in today. I took it out of the box long enough to test it and see that it worked properly then I put it back in the box, wrapped it up and put a gift tag on it to myself from my niece, my sister and their respective husbands. They all chipped in for it so they should be recognized. The last gift I wrapped is from my father to his grandson (my nephew). It's a 12-pack of Bud-Lite and two strap-on holsters. Each one holds a 10-ounce beer can. One holster is for him and the other is for a guy he works with. They do almost everything together. I have got to see the look on his face when he opens it. Same for my sister. I got her a collectors set of Star Trek drinking glasses. Kirk, Spock, Uhura and Nero. The two husbands are getting DVD's they said they wanted. I got my nephew a 1/25 Scale Nascar model, a Bobby Labonte 'Interstate Batteries' Monte Carlo. My niece will about flip when she sees the manicure/pedicure station I got her. It has everything the usual kits do and a lot more they don't. It set me back a bit.No progress on Oliver's adventure except that I saved a copy of it on the 'FloppySD' as a test. The dryer broke down today. My step mother and I both were hoping it had gone toes up after thirty-four years (bought new in January 1979)and it would be time for a new one. No dice. The belt had come off. My father put it back on in about thirty minutes. But there's still hope! He looked all over town today and can't find the proper belt for that dinosaur. The model and serial numbers don't even come up on the computers at the places he went to. Also the drying time is taking longer and longer. the timed cycles are meaningless as it often needs to be run a couple of times to dry a medium load and this is a heavy-duty dryer. My father thinks it's the thermostat but I'm betting on the heating coils. A faulty thermostat would usually result in the drying temp being too high. It's happened before with this dryer. It actually set fire to a load of clothes once.Looks like a good chance of rain tonight and tomorrow.Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Evenin' folks!
Janie, how about a cup of hot chocolate? Thanks!
Been a busy day around here too, Jeffrey. Ran a couple errands downtown, then started wrapping presents. Got quite a few done after I finally found all the tape and bows and stuff... I then had to take a bunch of checks from the MLK Scholarship appeal to Canandaigua to get them deposited in our account. The office here in town is basically closed... I saved about half the EV power in the car for when I got there for driving in town and then was going to use the remaining whatever to offset some gas on the way home. Of course, true to form, Main Street Canandaigua was busy as can be today with no open parking places anywhere near the front door of the bank. I trtied to see if I could find a parking space out behind the mansion and fianlly did manage to find the back door (servant class I guess) entrance but again, no parking spaces open. So I did a drive around the block for half an hour with little luck using up both my available EV and my temper. Finally I found an open space a couple blocks away from the bank and walked. I needed the excercise anyway.
Inside the marble mansion (very rich old bank back in the day... still is!) I see a sign stating that the bank would not be open on December 25 to celebrate Christmas.... I mentioned that to the lady who waited on me and asked her when Scrooge sold the place? She laughed... Evidently thought I was kidding or something.... I'll stop there except to say I really don't like this bank and wouldn't ever do personal business with the place. Still owned by a very, very (If you know what I mean) local family that is far above the rest on the social ladder.....
Got home and tonight got delivery of two of three packages I have been waiting for. Do hope the other one gets here tomorrow or Monday. It is for Granddaughter #2!
Never made it down to the trains today and tomorrow I will be going out to the museum for the Evergreen Train event where I get to do my imitation of the patron saint of Mal Wart.... They are predicting up to 3/4" of ice tomorrow night so I hope that stays to the West of the museum or the salt trucks are out in force on my way home!!!
Prayers for all in need!
Good evening ..
We have a full schedule for Christmas Time ..... Late tonight, one of our daughers arrives with her family from Michigan for a few days. Next, we go to Alabama for Christmas.... We return home right after Christmas for Ohio son and his family to be here. ..........
It will be a busy time
Cheers !
Golly gee, its 48F out there!
Happy First day of winter!
