Afternoon, Flo - I'll have a bowl of chili with some grated cheese and a little diced onion bits in it, plus some of those 'oyster crackers' and a RBF, please. Thank you!
Ray, it sounds like you had an.. interesting time at your sister’s with the tree trip and all THAT... Will she expect you to come back to help take it down after 12th Night or so (but hopefully, avoiding being called back to re-position said tree in the meantime)? V8Dennis - I hope you and your dogs have an alternate route for walking (away from the neighbor with the Pit Bull). I’d agree with the others about getting that complaint form filled out. And don’t calculate or put any compensation/vet bill pay from your neighbor into your budget just yet. Galaxy, I’ll try to chime in more often, but my voice just doesn’t carry well inside from the drive-by window... Oh, and you probably don’t want to get me going about those e-devices and their (digital?) idea of ‘spelling auto-correction’ - even though I own a couple of those ‘e-devices’... (Yeah, HA!!) Which gets me thinking - if they’re so smart, what are digital ‘thoughts’ like? Hmm.... (Texting? What’s that? - I am one of only two guys in our men’s group at church who doesn’t get texts from our leader. The other guy’s entry on the group says - under ‘Texts’: NO, NO, and NO again!!) Karl - hope things went well for your SWMBO-birthday & Friday 13th!Todd: loved your comment to Ray ("Do you ever get the urge to ask…just how long is a “few minutes”?"Ulrich - I will keep Reister’s wife on my prayer list (and your health). Cute little seaport layout - Is a switcher light enough to go onto the dock, or will you need several 'spacer' cars in front of it?Ray - I only will say that phrase that (I suspect) is dreaded around your area: “Lake effect warning”....And those of you up in the Northeast (Ray, Galaxy, JR, Mr. Beasley, & others) - don’tcha just LOVE how precise the weatherguessers are when it comes to that fluffy-white stuff? (How about if they gave the forecasts in REAL-world terms, such as): 0) “We’ll probably see a run at the stores on milk and bread...”1) “Might need your sn*w shovel today.”2) “Better park the vehicle on the street” (except in cities where they have no-parking routes in bad weather...)3) “Time to fire up the sn*w blower.”4) “Better bring in the small dogs/cats tonight...”5) “Best get those logs in the house for the fireplace, and stock up the cupboards.”6) “Got enough fuel for your generator?”7) “If you don’t have your plane tickets for Arizona, it’s too late now...”
- And what’s with the naming winter storms? Are they afraid the winter storms/storm gods will have their feelings hurt because the hurricanes get names & they don't? Sheesh! (Somebody at the national weather services must’ve had too much spare time on their hands, I suppose)Oh yeah, just for fun (and because I could afford to not win) last night I got a few tickets for the Mega-milions. Got mega-sqaut... Little ventured, nothing gained. Besides, our pastor (who isn’t that keen on that form on ‘entertainment’ always says that if one of us wins, he expects us to tithe on our winnings. Galaxy - that one explanation for ‘pure’ probably would’ve been better if I hadn’t been reading it just after I had lunch...Jeremy - that light stuff seems to be what gets blown around by the least little breeze, so it may re-arrange itself no matter where you shovel it off to.
Around here, we're above freezing for a fair chunk of today, so I'm hoping that all the sun and warmer temps will melt off the remaining ice-pack in my apartment parking lot (and the one at w**k...).
Hoping that I will actually get the lights on my little tree in the apartment. The tree's been up since the weekend after Thanksgiving, but I haven't taken the time to get the lights and ornaments on it yet. Nor are my stockings put up yet.
May all of you Diners have some MRR'ing time today! And prayers for all those who need 'em (likely most of us and those we know), including for Jeffrey and Johnboy, V8Vega's dog, and others needing healing.
Blessings,
Jim in Cape G.
hello
we have about 5 inches now. Looked like 3, but felt like four, is five i guess, so...awatiing more as we are in NO WAY done with it according to the radar.
I wonder if there will be mail today. They no longer have to deliver if in bad weather, i understand.
The Gr caravan is now home safe, passed safety inspection and apparently doesn't even need the tires we thought it might! excellent news! Even the frame is in good shape {the body another matter they rust out from the inside out according to one body guy}. So my prayers here were answered.
well, I hope all you in the path of the storm are and remain safe! It looks like it has GROWN from last night's satellite!
Those of you who HAD storms dumping snow did NOT have to "Share" with us!
Friday is RAIN AND 40f, makes me wonder of flooding! Thre is ice on the river, and rain will help melt the snow!
they say the global wrming is cooling down now? we are to enter a "new ice age"? Maybe so?
Even Hawaii's temps have apparently cooled down? I know when we were there we were at the Dole Pineaple plantation and it was a miserable 67*F!!! Daytime! IN FEb! SO much for their "average of constant 80F"! It is 76F 24 C there now at about 10:30 AM their time! Nice fair day it says. It is 79F in Honolulu and expected high of 82F. To be fair, the DOLE is at a higher elevation than Waikiki and Honolulu. Oh how my heart longs to be there, someday maybe...
I digreess... Now to deal with some snow fall Back to life, back to reality The plow is coming around again.
have a safe night those in the snow belt!

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
Hi Gang, hope your week-end is going well.
Chloe, a double RBF and some scrambled eggs, that should go down OK.
I tried twice a couple of days ago to post here, once on the forum itself and a second time from a note pad and both times when I hit post they both dissappeared and have not been found. I took this to mean I wasn't to post at that time and in well pronounced pear shape tone I just said SCREW IT.. Hope this works today.
I am very weary from all the tests, scans, biopsies, etc etc. I now am gumming it as my teeth were taken to parts unknown last Monday and I got to use the stomach feeding tube for a couple of days, but now I am back to eating by mouth although some things have to be spun through the blender.
They say that I will want to use the feeding tube after a couple of weeks of radiation. The radiation will be concentrated between my eyes, my throat, the back of my tongue and down the sides of my neck for the lymph nodes. They said yesterday after another biopsy that they thought that the thyroid was clear and I am sure hoping that is the case. I will know when that will begin when I meet with my Doctor Team at the Cancer Clinic next Thursday. They will then fill me in on all the details of my treatment and schedule, right now it is just a vague idea that was passed by us a couple of weeks ago in answer to a question.
I got the Wooden train set up built for my Grandson's Christmas present, I think for right now we will keep it here in the basement not far from Papa's layout. I am eager to see how he reacts over it at Christmas.
Haven't done much with the LM&E lately, too tired after all the running around medical wise. But hope to get into it soon again as I won't be moving much snow or other Honey-Dos for quite a while, so if I feel up to it I can really jusify spending more time there. Lately I've run trains when Solomon comes over( Grandson) and he is fastinated with it.
I really thank Garry and Cape Jim for keeping check on me, and want to thank all other who have been so kind with well wishes, kind thoughts and prayer candles. I think we should take up a collection for Galaxy as he has been burning so many candles he is probably supporting that with his pension money. He might never get to Hawaii at this rate, at least until most of us get back on our feet again. ( Way to go Jeff, stand tall and proud).
Well I have rambled on here, but before I close I want to apologise for any birthdays or anniversaries that I have missed and sincere condolences to those with losses in their families in the past while. And also your Dog, V8 Vega, do file a form on him just in case it happens again to someone. It should be documented.
ULRICH, I have had concerns about you since you entered the political arena.
I know of your dedication but your health was a serious concern. Please take care of it now that you have the time.

We have met the enemy, and he is us............ (Pogo)
Just a quick visit before I hit the hay.
Johnboy - good to see you here. Our prayers for you will continue. I know pretty well what is ahead of you. O have benn through that 32 years ago. The docs must have done a darn good job back then...
Right now I can´t say I am kicking. I am utterly exhausted - way too much has happened this year for me to shoulder it. I knew that one day I´d be paying a price for it but didn´t expect that day to come so soon.
Well, off I am!
Good Night, everybody!
Evenin Folks!
Chloe, could I get a big bowl of cream of mushroom soup, some oyster crakers, and a toasted cheese sandwich with one of those dill pickles too.... Oh, a cup of hot decaf coffe would be great. What? Yes, i am chilled to the bone.... Long interesting day!
This morning bright and early I went outside into the 7°F air to brush the 2" of "Partly Cloudy" we got overnight from something we call "Lake Effect" off the PiP so I could drive 50+ miles from my house to Rochester, NY on the New York State Thruway skating rink to go to a Train Show at RIT... Having cleared all the partly cloudy off the PiP I got into the 7°F interior of the car and pushed the little round "Power" button. The ICE was running before I took my finger off the "Power" button. I thought it was because I didn't turn the Cabin Air System off after I drove it home in 12°F temps last night. Nope everything was off except the ICE. Didn't mind a bit either.
It was nice to have heat in the car and I didn't care if I was burning Fossilized Dinosaur Dung and giving $$$ to the Fossil fuel Industry! When it is 7°F outside (and inside the car) I don't mind at all.... By the time I got home from the show my driveway now has 4" of "Partly Cloudy" from the "Lake Effect". But that they say will change as a plain old Winter storm will take over and dump 7 to 10" of the white stuff in my driveway by the time I need to drive back to Rochester for the second day of the Train Show tomorrow! I expect the ICE to start right up and get me warmer than 7°F as soon as I press "Power" again tomorrow! Of course driving 55 mph on the 65 mph Thruway and only getting 46mpg isn't great either..... There were folks doing faster with them Foe Wheeeeeel Drahves! Yippy!!! Hey, Yall, Watch Theeeis vehicles. There were a bunch of them there things off the road in the ditch, there were. Pip drove great and handled the "Partly Cloudy" with no problems. And... I was going as fast as the Big Rigs were too (they evidently like to drive on the road and not in the ditch also!).
Johnboy! Good to see you in here. Know you will have my prayers for as long as it takes for you to recover from this ordeal...
Jeffrey, hope the leg gets feeling more and more comfortable as you get used to it and they make tweaks to it for you.
I took the Blacksmith's Shop with me to finish a bit of highlighting on the 3 sides awaiting windows and doors. Spread them out on the table for people to see while I worked on the remaining sides. My good friend who did the drawings for me and went and checked measurements and such on the building hadn't seen the walls in person yet. I gave him the front wall with the door to check out. He took one look, just beamed and grinned from ear to ear, looked at me and said, "Ray, that is amazing modeling!" That really made my day! This is one of the truly great modelers in the world, well known author, and MMR. His words made me feel very good about what I have done so far... At some point I will tell you who it is (Maybe several months from now and by then you may already know). Can't say any more right now... One other gentleman who is a local Railroad Historian, author, and historical speaker about RRs in my area, stopped by the table and said hi. He looked at the walls, I said it will be an octogon Blacksmith's Shop... He stopped me and said, "I know that building! That's the one in Alloway, NY, built in 1832, and started tell more history about it... He too said it was an amazing likeness and wants to see it went it is finished. Glad I went to the show...
I have the wood stove lit and the house is warming up! Guess I'll go enjoy the soup and sandwich!
Later!

What a cold snow storm of a day here. Shovled a couple times and thats not including my parenst and garndmas house. The snow is blowing so hard and still snowing decent that its better to just go in the morning. The plows havent ht the road yet. I think there just waiting for it to let up also.
Didnt do any layout work today ( figures the first big storm of the year and I didnt work on the model railroad ) I just watched the two part series that was on last week "Bonnie & Clyde" might do some model work tonight while watching the hockey game.
Good evening ..
JohnBoy ... Glad you can post in the Diner. Prayers continue. Glad we could email. Good you have famnily to look out for you, too.
Ulrich ... Hope your heart is OK. Have you been in contact with your heart doctor lately?
Galaxy .... Your candle lighting is appreciated.
Ray ... I agree with your friend. Your blacksmith shop looks like outstanding modleing so far.
V8 Dennis .... It sounds like that pit bull should be put down. Hope your dog is doing better.
Jeff ... Glad you can walk, and I hope the new leg is adjusted soon so it is comfortable.
JimCG ... Good to see you in the Diner.
Mr. B .... Hope the snow is not too bad there.
Happy Model Railroading, everybody

Johnboy- GOOD to see you! They say "trials and tribulations will make one stronger"..so you must be getting stronger! DO keep us posted! That is a nasty disease you are battling, but as said, if you let it win, it wins every time, so Fight!
Ulrich- With your heart problems {i have a few minor ones myself} you are on the prayer list too!
Actually MOH switched us to a prayer oil lamp..so many candles were a problem, so one lighted lamp, reminiscent of days of old with oil lamps for prayers for all!
Got a call form a real estate agent in Hawaii. He said I had visited his site? Perhaps while perusing and nosing around and the wishful thinking of "retiring there". I told him to send me an email i'd be happy to explain as his cell phone was none to clear..I think the pacific ocean breezes were blowing across his microphone. I sure wish we were there now! CANNOT WAIT TO GET BACK THERE.
Johnboy's comment about the candle costs ring true! The lamp burns a lot of oil, so not much cheaper. what will have to do is switch to votive candles which last longer. A prayer candle is any candle {usaully a long tapered one} that one says the morning prayers over. cheap candles do as cheap candles do.
Well, now that my longing for Hawaii has been rekindled...shoked mOH who kept asking the man's purpose in asking fo me, then finally handed it over to me..I was shocked I think i visited "his site" 2 years ago?
Well, Suze is on in about 45 mins, so I best go and tend to the lamp. Time to take it down for the night.
Prayers and healing thoughts for those who need them and for those who don't think they do!
Just a soimple greeting in the morning, no fancy stuff.

Went to Wal-Mart today to do some grocery shopping and give the leg some 'road time'. It felt good to walk from the car to store and vice versa. While in the store I did the smart thing and got a ride-on cart. No way am I up for that much walking. Boy the store was packed but I was able to get everything I went there for. We came back home and I carried my own groceries for the first time in five months. After all that I took the leg off, wiped out the inside of the socket and applied some Gold Bond body powder to it and stuck it back on. I got the extra strength triple action stuff. It's mostly talc. It also has menthol so I shouldn't have an itch there and it has zinc oxide as a skin Protectant. It feels better now than it did with the corn starch baby powder. I've had the leg on most of the day and it's hardly noticeable. Just when I stand up as the joint passes about 40-45° there's a little pain.

Janie, a refil on the decaf please....
The snow machine has cranked up pretty good at the moment here in the Finger Lakes. It is mostly falling sideways which is not a good thing as that means it will be drifting good and deep in all the wrong spots. The local DPW sent the plow down my street an hour ago to fill in all the driveways in the neighborhood.

Garry... Thank you sir! I am starting to enjoy and look forward to completing the project now. Guess I have gotten to the point where I know I can succeed with it.
Galaxy, you might enjoy this... The other day when I helped my sister get her Christmas Tree, the garden store where she got it had a small display of NYS Grade A Maple Syrup. I found a dark amber bottle, picked it up and read the label expecting it might say produced in South Carolina or sumpin', when what do I see? It says made in Newark Valley, NY! I look at the owner of the store (a student way back when of my sister), hold the bottle up, put on my best Southern Tier hillbilly accent, and say, "Maple Syrup from Newark Valley??? They ain't got no Maple trees down there! Them's all Oaks in that place! Then I told him I once taught in Waverly,NY and one of my Student Teachers ended up teaching Music in Newark Valley. He had no idea where the place was, so I gave him the business... Figuratively and literally.... I bought the bottle.....
Jeffrey, sounds like you are limpin' around pretty well already! Good!
Cars... even the Foe Wheeeeel Drahv, are moving around rather slow at the moment. Probably we will get the snowmobiles, and off road stuff roaring down the street soon....
Stay safe and warm!

Still got the leg on after putting new powder in six hours ago and it's still feeling good. The only time I feel any pain is when I stand up. It's just a little twinge on the left side of my knee.No work on Oliver's adventure today. We've got quite a bit of wind blowing through down here. Sounds like it's gusting about 25mph from the northwest. Forecast says 32° tonight. Did somebody leave the door open up north? Y'all might wanna kick it shut.Time to shut this thing down and head for the bed. See y'all tomorrow.
'Bout midnight here. Being done with work for the year has caused me to revert to what I suspect is my "natural" sleep cycle, staying up until after midnight and sleeping late. Right now, I'm watching the snow come down outside. It looks like we've got 6 inches or so already, with the heaviest still to come. Don't worry about us New England folk, though. We get a couple of these a year, and having it on a weekend makes it one of the no-problem storms. The world will be dug out by Sunday night.
SWMBO stopped in at Whole Paycheck, the hi-falutin' organic market. They had giant crab legs for $9.99 a pound, so that was our dinner. Easy to prepare and yummy, and probably not good for you at all after you dip each bite in melted butter.
Ray, you are one dedicated man, going out in the snow to do a train show.
Johnboy, keep taking an interest in what they're doing to you. Some years ago, I had rotator cuff surgery to repair some damage I did to myself skiing. No fun, I assure you, but I prefer to look on stuff like that as being in a real-world episode of M.A.S.H. It's certainly not comfortable, but damn, it sure is interesting.
Today (or rather, yesterday, since it's not today anymore after midnight) I got a bit of modeling done. I finished up those pesky brick parapets on the tannery, and then started on the tall water tower. It's a nice model, but there are all these struts and braces, and it's hard to keep them aligned during assembly so that everything stands straight. I just finished the last of the plastic pieces, and I'm going to let all the glue set up hard overnight before I start on the wire cross-pieces. SWMBO's list grows every couple of hours, though, so my time may be short.
It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.
morning coffee..
The prayer candles are lighted, one for Johnboy-out-for his mental sanity and physical health; one for Ulrich as his heart to heal; one for Jeffrey {he could use some as he adjusts to his new leg}; one for those who have recently passed; one for those who are not mentioned here but have the need; and one for world peace...
No funny limerick, no wise old sage wisdom imparted, just a good old fashioned "hello"...
...I need to find new material...
Good morning. It's 35° with 92% humidity. The high will be 52° with some clouds.Put my leg on this morning, put my weight on it and instant pain! Something was wrong. Seems my stump has shrunk up a bit more. I put on one of the socks that was provided and that seems to have fixed things for now. Don't know if I'll do any work on Oliver's adventure. That depends on what else happens today. Later I may see if I can get out to the shop and see if I can find any of my tools out there. I brought quite a few of them down here before I went to the hospital. Hopefully they weren't thrown away. That would be a big expense if they were.

Good Morning,
Well Winterpeg is living up to its reputation this morning as it is -35C or -25F if you prefer.
Johnboy, Glad you stopped in as I too was wondering how you were doing with your treatments. I truly hope everything works out well for you.
Yesterday I had a day similar to Todd's. We drove all over the place in -20 weather, in and out of stores, etc. We finally got home about 9 p.m. Driving here in such cold weather is nerve wracking to say the least because the little snow that fell Friday nicely polished the packed snow on the side streets and intersections to ice and I mean that hard, glassy type of ice. Ice is different when it is very cold outside compared to just below freezing. Come visit some January and I'd be happy to show you.
We are staying inside today as it is supposed to snow this afternoon with a high of -20C. A fire and wine are in order I think.
Not much happening on the RR front. I am slowly making progress on my Middlesex Manufacturing building. I'm just about to put the glazing in the windows, about 50 windows and we are talking N scale so they are small indeed. I am trying to just use strips of the clear plastic otherwise I will have to cut each window out seperately from the sheet. I might run some trains.
Keep warm,

Good Afternoon, Janie - I’ll have a BLT with some of those potato skins (with the bacon and cheese, please), and a Rio Grande mug of hot chocolate, and a RBF a bit later for my dessert. Thanks!Jeff, I was wondering about your Wal-Mart trip yesterday when you first mentioned it (“Hmm, I wonder if he'll overdo, and try to walk too much, instead of getting a cart inside WallyWorld?”). Glad that your wiser self prevailed. Sounds like the Gold Bond will be very helpful as you get adjusted to the new leg. I was wondering about that black Apple - was that all as originally built (//e labels, white keyboard, etc.?). I knew about the Bell & Howell Apple IIe (or was it a II?), but never saw photos of the original ones to see if they said Apple or B&H on them. Looks a bit unusual, for sure. And I like your sense of humor about the train sets in those two rooms...Johnboy, great to see you posting in here again! Keep at it, and as many have said, we’re pulling for ya! And for you as well, Ulrich! Get rested up (so you can get by Herr Arztpraxis), please.Ray, I would concur that your blacksmith’s building is coming along great! That ‘stonew**k’ is the kind I’ve thought about making some (more Southwestern-styled) ‘stone’ buildings, but I was thinking of casting the walls with a thin coat of PofP in a plastic jig, and then set stones (W-S talus, mostly) in the plaster while it was still kinda wet. I’ll have to go back and find your posts when you started your blacksmith shop to see what all you did/used...Galaxy, with the weather up your (and Ray’s) direction, I’m sure Hawaii did sound pretty good (even at 67 F)! And shame on you, using the ‘S’ word in the Diner! But hey, every guy has his limits - we can only take so much of that white stuff, right? When I read your morning post today (about 'new material'), I was thinking “He almost sounds like a comedian there...”Garry, hope you didn’t get much of that icy part of the storm that had moved through a few days ago. I’m hoping it will warm up nicely in the next few days so the remaining ice/packed sn*w in our parking lot will be gone soon. Mr. B, you’re down with w**k for this year? I think I’m jealous! I’ve cut the shellfish from my diet (bad effect on my cholesterol level, which I want/need to keep down). But baked/broiled fish (salmon, etc.), THAT is still on my diet (love it!).Todd, are you hoping for the usual thing when somebody buys/gets out a sn*wblower (that that means you won’t have any need for it...)? Sounds like Brenda hasn’t got on board with that idea that you don’t buy much of any presents for yourself when Christmas is coming (for the very reason you mentioned on the Godzilla video pack). If I get anything, I make sure it isn’t something I may have mentioned to my daughter, and/or I only get something that I never have said anything about, and that it is not at all like **anything** on my gift list I gave them this year (or the year before...). At least you figured how to get out of that shopping club place... Hey, are you far enough north to catch some of the winter storms coming across/northeasterly, after they dump the white stuff in the St. Louis area?CN Charlie - I’d say that whichever temp scale you use, that’s just COLD up there!!! Bet you even have to wear your light jacket on days like that, eh? And it might be a little while before I get up there to visit you in January, though...Rob, good to see you again in here. How’s your weather been there? I think you may have missed the white stuff and ice, but figured ya coulda got a good soaking from the storm last week. Critters doing okay? And how is the re-doing of the layout(s) coming along?
Here's a photo of my (decorated) Christmas tree - as I said yesterday when I was in the Diner, I still have my stocking(s) and a few smaller decorations to put up around the apartment.

There's a Christmas concert I'm going to tonight at church (free), so that should be good. And this morning was the annual kids' Christmas program. Typical - funny, various little things (one kid couldn't figure how to turn on the microphone's on/off switch), and the littlest kids were the "cattle" in the manger, with 'cow' caps that had spots and horns painted on them. I was thinking the local Chick-Fil-A manager should've been there!
Welp, my food's here, so I'll be at the RC a bit. Do keep on taking care of yourselves (and loved ones), and best wishes if your shopping isn't done (mine isn't...).
Blessings and prayers,
Good Sunday afternoon, Diners! -6f and clear. Pretty cold.
Had some buddies over for an ops session this morning, my first. Figured it would really shakedown the railroad. I wasn't disappointed. Lots of minor problems to address. I wouldn't have found them without a test ops. We had loads of fun and laughs, though! They've all signed on for the next one after the holidays. That'll give me time to fix stuff.
We only got through about half the schedule over about 3 hours, so an adjustment there is warranted. Granted, they had never run the railroad before so there was a lot of 'splaining at first.None are MRR's.Yet!
Watching the Packers play. Lousily. Really bad so far.
That's all for now.

I take back everything I said about my Green Bay Packers!! What a comeback!
Way to go, Packers!!!!!!! And sorry Dallas fans.

Well I wore the leg for most of the day today. Took it off at 6:45 this evening. No red spots on the stump and knee but a couple spots were somewhat tender. Pain was moderate at worst. From one to ten a three or four. I walked around in the yard a bit this morning and in the house some. This afternoon we went to Subway for dinner and to celebrate my step mothers birthday. I like Subway as long as somebody else is buying. Due to an incident some years ago I'll never buy anything there again. Maybe I'll tell you about it someday.
Evenin' folks!
Janie, just a upc of hot chocolate and a seat by the stove in the back please...
Currently 25°F outside and the snow plow just now came down my street spreading salt.... Roads were pretty good between Geneva and Rochester today. Worst driving was in Rochester as the "Lake Effect" was still doing a number on the city. It was not a bad drive at all on the way home as soon as I got on the thruway...
Today there was to be 6 of us manning the NMRA table at the show. A couple days ago one guy bowed out from coming as he was home trying to pass a kidney stone! The weather coming up from the Southern tier kept 2 other guys from making the trip up today, and right before I left (an hour and a half late) I got an email from an older gent that for several reasons (I bet his wife put her foot down) couldn't come over today. So.... That left just 2 of us and I was late getting there and the other guy had to leave early afternoon to go to a family gathering. S.... The best made plans....
The funny story of the day was that last night I set the alarm to get out of bed at 7:45. I woke up at 7:30, took off the CPAP mask and went to the little room down the hall (where that old guy with a beard keeps staring out of the mirror at me!) and then headed to the computer to check on the weather conditions to see if I was going to even go to the show today. I no sooner had started the computer when both cats (who were on the bed in the bedroom) came running out to where I was and starred up at me. Manét was meowing loudly at me and Blackie was pawing my leg to get my attention. I just looked down at them, scratched thier heads and thought, "what the heck is wrong with them this morning"? they just sat there and kept trying to get my attention... I got up from the computer to go get my coffee going and the cats blocked my pth to the kitchen still trying to get me to do something. Didn't think much more about it un till I walked to the bathroom to wash my hands, and then walked by the bedroom. Now I didn't yet have my hearing aids in my ears, but I head a strange sound like some kind of an alarm or the phone ringing.... Thought for a second and thought, "I bet one of the guys who is supposed to be coming to the show is calling and ran over to the phone. Nothing... Could no longer hear the sound either.... I went back to the hallway and heard it again! have you figured it out yet??? The cats were trying and trying to tell me the alarm clock had gone off in the bedroom! Duh! Tough being deaf sometimes. The alarm clock is one for the deaf that blasts an alrm at about 130 Db and could wake the dead. But I couldn't hear it until I was right near the bedroom.
Jeffrey, sounds like you are adapting well to your new leg! I stopped at Subway here in town and brought my dinner home with me... That is about the only "Fast Food" place I will patronize. And I don't go there very often.
I think I shall go snuggle in near the wood stove and get warm. Manét will likely join me. Later!
Well I did a little work on Oliver's adventure today. I had a set of stack variables that weren't working the way I had intended. Turned out it was one variable causing all the trouble. There are two similar variables, SB1 and SB2. In this instance SB1=1 and SB2=2. When Oliver goes into a seating compartment and starts snooping around SB1=1 and SB2=2. However when he is searching the overhead rack a ten year old boy who was asleep on one of the seats wakes up. Now SB1=0 and SB2=2. The kid runs out of the compartment. SB1=1 and SB2=1. This is where things get hairy. The variables look simple enough and they are. Quick Basic (QBasic) would look at the variables and see them for what they are. SB1 and SB2. It looks at the ENTIRE variable and the assignment (that's the # after the '=' sign). However I'm not using Quick Basic. I'm using Applesoft Basic. It looks at part of the variable. The first two characters (SB) then it looks at the assignment. See the problem? SB1 and SB2 have the SAME first two characters. So the computer is looking at SB1 and SB2 but basic is seeing SB and SB. Guess what happens when SB1=1 and SB2=1. Basic sees SB=1 and SB=1. This causes the stack to crash and I get a stack overflow error. However the fix was simple enough. SB1 is still SB1 but SB2 is now SD2 and the stack is working properly. It involved reformatting seventeen line assignments where SB2 was used, about an hours work. The leg was good to me today. Only some moderate pain but no red spots. Maybe I'll grow some calluses in those areas soon.Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.
Chamomile tea, please.
***Jim, all the critters are doing well presently. No snow or ice here, just an over abundance of rain. The ol' farm is a mud fest. Nothing on the layout until I get the pickup truck properly fixed/reliable. Need that done first so I have a way to pick up the lumber for the RR expansion. Have no way to drop off the truck and get back home except on weekends and the shop is closed then. Eventually!
***Terry, love the lake with dead-fall and reflection. Very nice!
***Ray, interesting your cats were trying to tell you something was up. One would expect that from dogs, not necessarily from cats. 130dBs, must have been piercing for them. I was waiting for you to say one of them had their head stuck in the Cpap mask.LOL One of my two indoor cats is amused with my mask, the other ignores it completely.
Have a good night all.
