Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a bowl of Malt-O-Meal please. Thank you.

Mostly cloudy, with a high near 31.

Jim- Actually I had a small sn*wblower for here. But it was a bit small for Mom’s house out in the country so I bought a bigger “green” one to use out there the winter she passed. Besides it was one of those 2cycle motors that you spend more time trying to get it started  than using it and the pile the village puts at your driveway end was too much for it so I ended up digging that out anyway, plus it had a lot of kick marks on it Whistling. Anyway, I used it (the new one) one day after a 10inch plus sn*w a couple days after I got it. That was Jan 2011. Then in 2012 it didn’t sn*w to speak of so it sat. This year (but last winter) it did sn* to use it once and now I used it Saturday. 3 days in 3 years Good investment eh!?Laugh We probably got 5” Friday night and maybe oh…a skim last night. Not even gonna get the shovel out cause it’s be gone soon. Maybe. As for gifts, I never figured her need to be surprised when it’s always been she tells me what she wants, I get it.Tongue Tied

Ray- I bet the cats ears were ringing for a bit after that!!  Laugh

Today is Church Bookwork day. Then I have to get Brenda’s medicine and then…..well I guess I’ll try to finish the walls in my buddys’ basement. His son comes home from Norway this Saturday and I don’t want to be piddling around with that. Besides, his wife apparently has a “few other things” she wants me to do after this in addition to him wanting his garage rewired. THAT I’m stalling til warmer weather.Wink
Welp, I think I’ll get an early move on to the Church even though the bank ain’t open yet. Might just get done before noon. AH the life of a retired guy. Truly there is plenty to do, but those that request soon must realize, it’s on my time scheduleLaugh.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Goo morning. It's 35.5° (seriously, that's what the display says) with 96% humidity. The high will be 62° and feel like 66°.

The leg is feeling good this morning. I just have to remember to straighten that knee before I put my weight on it. Didn't do that this morning and almost ended up doing the splits. Last time I did that was when we lived in El Paso. Who would believe that it could snow there? I was nine years old then. Landing in the split position on snow and ice was a memorable experience then and it definitely would be now on a marble tile floor forty-four years later.

I plan to get some work done on Oliver's adventure. Maybe I can get him into the baggage car today.

It's my intent to get some walking time in today. I've already done some this morning.

Good Afternoon Folks!

Whistling We are having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave ...

South-westerly winds brought us some warm weather, temperatures were at 10 °C today, making me feel dizzy all day long.

An uneventful day, I am glad it was. I could sleep all day, have hard time to stay awake, only to get some sleep at night.

I spent some time "painting" another layout idea - a large scale layout in a suitcase, inspired by the video I posted the other day.

I should have enough plans to publish a book by now Smile, Wink & Grin

Have a great week!

Hi Gang Cowboy

Flo, nothin for me right now. I started feeling better yesterday,, but I fell like its one step forward, 2 steps back. Ick!

The nose that was running like a faucet for the last 4 days now feels like its full of Elmers Wood Glue, and now my ears are buggin me. So no plans for any activities today.

Galaxy, that VW prbably wont meet Federal Crash guidelines, thats why its Europe only. AT 1700 pounds, its no wonder.  Even the Yugo wieghed more! (about 100 lbs) Wink

Jeffrey,,, Glad to hear you are working out the leg issuesBig Smile

Ulrich With what you can fit into those micro layouts, I shudder to think what you could pull off in a full basement! Wink

Gonna lay down for a bit, Catch ya later

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a short stack of buckwheat pancakes with NYS, Maple Syrup, and a pot of dark roast Seneca Lake Blend coffee this morning.

It is currently 20°F outside here in the Finger Lakes at the moment with a predicted high of 19°F sometime today.  Yup!  That's what the weather people say....Whistling  There is something called sunshine out there at the moment an IO shall head out to begine unburying the solar panels in a bit to see if they will fire up, clear off and produce a bit of electrical current today.  Last 2 days have been nothing, zip, nil, nada...  Well, yesterday it produced .018 of a kWh...  Whoopie!

Rob and Todd...  OK the alarm isn't actually 130dB.  Feels like it when you are right next to it, but not loud enough to cause injury.  When it goes off, the first thing I feel is two cats extiting off the bed for parts unknown though.  These two are very communitive with me and do let me know if something isn't right around the house.  They seem to know that "Daddy" will make it right.

Jeffrey, sounds like you and the leg are becoming friends... Smile, Wink & Grin

I need to get a wash going and get to cleaning off the roof.

Later!

Ulrich With what you can fit into those micro layouts, I shudder to think what you could pull off in a full basement! Wink

Karl - a basement filling layout is much more difficult to plan than a micro layout. These small layouts force you to concentrate on one scene, but big layouts need a plausible arrangement of scenes (or LDE´s = Layout Design Elements).

Here are a few examples of what I did in the past:

1. A layout idea for Cudaken

One of my "early designs" with a lot of elements "borrowed" fromn Pelle Soeborg

2. A layout idea for Robby P.

3. A small narrow gauge Swiss style layout for a friend of mine in Switzerland (he is actually building this one)

4. An idea I developed for myself (lack of money prevented this one from being built)

... and a last one for my MRR pal here in Germany

The most difficult layout type to design, IMHO" ist that classic 4 by 8, or any table type layout. It´s not the track arrangement, it´s to come up with a real looking scenery, which makes it difficult to design, especially when you plan on having a mult-level layout.

This is one I did, just for fun:

French roast coffee in a SUNNY SOUTHERN mug, please.

***Karl, nice layout pic!

***Ray, I never use an alarm clock anymore. My cat Millie jumps back and forth over my head when she wants to go outside (back screened porch) which is usually before sunrise. Storm Cat just scratches at the door and sometimes meows, too. Fortunately, I can reach that door from the bed when I am trying to sleep in. They only come in at night now anyway.

Trying to get a couple RC planes ready to fly this Wed. Will be only the second chance I've had in about two months, due to weather and/or just not having the energy for it. I have more problems with the electronics in those planes. Looking forward to working on the layout, hopefully before to much longer.

Have a good day all. Cowboy Rob

Evenin' folks!

Janie, hot decaf coffee please...  I'll be having a seat in the back near the wood stove to stay warm!

Warm?  Not here in the Finger Lakes tonight!  Currently -1°F outside.  I have the wood stove cranking out heat and will leave the gas space heater on low down cellar in the train room.  One cat is sleeping right by the warm air register here in the dining room, and the other is is sleeping on the bed in the bedroom.

Galaxy, hope your a bit warmer where you are or have the water dripping to keep the pipes from freezing!

Catch you all later!

RAY: it is COLD here, but a tad, just a tad warmer than you guys further North in the "Arctic".

We have been dripping the pipes most every day since mid-NOV, and according to long term forecasts, may have to most of Jan-Mar too!

It will be 38, 40, 36 in a  few days, WITH RAIN. I HOPE that doesn't lead to flooding!

Have a sleepful might..a 2 kitty night!

Didn't get anything done on Oliver's adventure today. I was too busy doing other things. Practicing my walking, wrapping gifts, practicing going up and down a step. I was all right as long as I remembered to step down with my right foot (fake one). If I stepped down first with the left the right leg didn't like it. Going up the step, I could do that leading with the left or right. It was easiest if I stood on the right and stepped up with the left then brought the right up then repeated it. When my right leg gets stronger it should get easier. On my walking, I can do it unassisted but I'm unsteady. More like stagger around like a drunk horse! It's much easier with a cane so that's what I'm using. On the gift wrapping, I'm not good at it so I took my time. I took nearly an hour to wrap two DVD's, a manicure/pedicure station and a 1/25 Nascar Monte Carlo model kit. They actually look pretty good.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

It is a cool -2*F here {or 6*F, or 4*F depending on who you believe}

I'll bet Ray's wood stove is cranking out the heat!

We have the "pipes dripping" to keep from frozen pipes. {I know its the FAUCETS dripping, but "drip the pipes" is how it comes out}

I know it is coldER in other places, but this is the first so low in the season here. You can keep it, thank you!

I'll bet Jeffrey has a cooler spell down his way too.

My old bones are not handling the frigid digits well. Especially my knees.

Oh, Hawaii, my heart longs to be there, BUT thay have had some serious flooding there lately too, so they are NOT exempt form strange weather!  It is currently 65*F at the Dole plantation{11pm}, and a low of 67*F in Honolulu. But tomorrow's high? 82*F with plenty of sunshine! {with a low of 66*F}. I'll TAKE IT!  Speaking of Hawaii, my order finally came from Hawaii. Maybe not next year, but the following year we should be able to go.

But here we have 37*F, 43, 48, 52 COMING! {Thurs-Sat}. Now wiht teh rian to accompany those temps, adn the river ice and the melting snow, watch us have flooding! Can't win for losing!

Have a safe Warm day, y'all!

Good morning. It's 44° with 89% humidity. The high will be 65° and feel like 68°.

No plans set in stone today. I may get some work in on Oliver's adventure. I think he's all the fun he's going to have in the passenger car. Time to move him on to the baggage car. You know even when a train is dead-heading it can be transporting something of value. So far Oliver has been finding keys, killers, thieves and a bunch of surprises. Who knows what may be lurking in the baggage car? Could it be something interesting? Possibly. Could it be something dangerous? Quite likely. Could Oliver be excited about finding it? Don't bet on it.

The disk drive emulator I ordered on 12/08 has made it's way from Bulgaria, landed in New York and is now on it's way cross-country to my location. I estimate it'll arrive on the 20th or maybe a few days later even though the USPS estimate is from the 20th to as late as January 8th.

I've already gotten a little walking practice in this morning. I intend to get some more later.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of hot oatmeal with raisins and brown sugar and a cup of your finest organic dark roast coffee, please.  I'll be in my seat in the back by the wood stove.

"We're havin' a Heat Wave, Tropical Heat Wave...."  21°F outside this morning under very cloudy skies.  Had about an inch of new sn*w last night, and yes Galaxy I have the wood stove going already today...  Still had coals from last night when I got up this morning, so I just opened the vent and added more wood.  Temps will moderate later in the week with several days of above freezing temps and liquid sunshine.  Whooopie!

This Saturday I will be performing my imitation of the patron saint of Mall-Wart out at the museum for the evergreen train event...  Ho, Ho, Ho!  Should be fun even though I am violating some personal ethics.  But....  It will help the museum pay the bills.

Found out we don't have an MLK Committee meeting tonight so I can spend the day doing some other needed items and even pay a visit to the train room and finish up a door or two on the Blacksmith's Shop.

Have a good one!

Hmm

i was doing somethings online and re-upping for computer programs  had to do a charge. I use only one card for online stuff, and so it GOT DECLINED. Nothing wrong with the card that I know of, They wanted another card {i was talking to a guy on the phone too as I worked online helping me } and I SAID NO. He kept pushing, I said NOpe. and I explained why {the card is on deny for possible fraud charges} . EITHER: 1} my card has been compromised or 2} it is denying the charge as an unknown entity!!

I got off the phone with them and called the card company. AS I suspected, they thought it was a compromised  unauthorized purchase attempt. I verified it was me ordering the program, and they restored the charge card to normal status. TG! So I will consider the info carefully and maybe i shall seek out another program! I hate this "digital" "online" stuff.. I like to order a program and install off a disc! Gimme hardware for my software!

Bottom line also we have to take the computer in for a servicing too!

It may leave us without a antivirus protection though!

MOH is supposed to get new tablets for work as soon as MOH has the tablet this computer can go in for servicing, but MOH needs it for work! All data must go in via computer or tablet! {ANOTHER HAZZARD Of the COmputer world!!}

ANd certain people wonder why oh why we don't go do our bill paying and such online!

Oh well, we have 3 days of antivirus protection left. THen I don't know what to do.Thing is I already paid for an update to it. I guess maybe i take off the dunno...

GRR. The tech world is nice, but fraught with problems!

EDIT: Now I am on tippy top AGAIN, with a questionable CC, DAisy, They will have WATER With Lemon ONLY on me, please!

Good afternoon!  Well, maybe not, as SWMBO has me painting the bathroom ceiling, but right now I'm eating lunch and doing computer things.

I use AVG FREE antivirus, and I've never had a problem.  It was recommended by a very knowledgable PC guy at work.  Not only is it free and effective, it's also not terribly intrusive.  Some of this heavy-duty antivirus stuff uses a lot of your computer's resources all the time, as if you just want your computer protected to the max, but don't really plan to use it for anything else.

A few weeks back, I found an older Athearn Baldwin S-12 switcher in Milwaukee colors at a train show.  It's old-school, with the motor mounted to the frame which provides the left side of the power.  This week I've been installing DCC and LEDs in it, along with giving it some weathering.  I got the decoder in yesterday, and gave it some running time.  I was thinking of sound, but it's quite noisy already and I'm not sure sound would have the effect I want.

Same here. I've used it for years. Somebody told me Avast! was better as it didn't take up resources. I tried it. Somebody didn't know what they were talking about. Avast! took up so much of my computers resources it kept crashing. On top of that it kept questioning almost everything I did online. I dropped that rag and went back to AVG.

Good Afternoon,

We had one of Ray's tropical heat waves here yesterday and it got all the way up to -2C! It was short lived though as it is -18C now but it is sunny.

Galaxy, I use Microsoft Security Essentials on my computer on the recommendation of the person who sold me this computer a couple of years ago. It is free and supposedly very good. Just do a search on it and download.

Not much new here. I sure wish MOH would give me a few hints about her Christmas list. I can think of lots of expensive things but we are saving for our next adventure to Africa so it needs to be something relatively low cost. I may just have to put some vouchers in a card. I did get the special cherry chocolates from Bernard Callebaut.

Mr.B, Is Milwaukee the road you model? I am just curious.

WEll,

erm

four people three opinons on antivirrus software alone.

See, now that is a problem.

Being barely computer litterate { I know how turn on/off, find google earth, find MS word starter and get online in either Chrome or AOL, MOH slightly more and usually does the defragging} I don't know an agg for a computer from a peanut butter cup for a computer!

We had Avast as it was installed free by the computer repair company as "the best". It was re-upped for free. Then we have to pay, naturally. Problem IS, that it is on there, and may not allow other programs to install A-V software! We supposedly had no problems until now having to pay for it either, if it had the free version still, we'd be "set"? Maybe not. WHo knows. Doing ANYHTING online is risky these days.

I aslo don't like the windows7 works things either! I want my XP! Oh well, times, they are ah-chang-in'.

ALSO: some "good Sites" sites apparently have "things" attached to them. MOH came home with a Business card form the neice fo a store owner of celtic stuff in the Steamtown MAll in Scranton {next door to Steamtown} and the card's website, is apparently infected with something our software security system did NOT like. I cannot imagine that a good business site has "alterior motives" to put unkown things on computers when customers contact them!!! Hmm Unless a competitor has had thier way with the site!

NUTZ! COOKIES! GUMDROPS! PEANUT BRITTLE!

Grr...

CN Charlie:

SInce you are saving for a trip to Africa{hopefully faster than us saving for our next rip back to HAwaii.}{did I mention we want to go back to HAwaii?}

How about giving YOH a "coupon booklet" for things like a free day of vacuuming done by you, a free day of a bath with scented  candles without you interrupting; a free day of a cooked meal by you; a free day off from something normally you don't do; a free day off from dishes; a free m"assage therapy" with you as the masseur{a little warmed mineral oil and you know the rest-just do your best}; etc. little things like that that take more of your time and energy than $$$.

That way, you can still save for Africa {Or HAWAII, did I mention us and Hawaii??} and yet give YOH something YOH may enjoy!

Have HAppy holidays!

Hi Guys

Had a very scary night last night in fact I dont think I have ever been so scared.

Was lying on the couch after midnight and all of a sudden in a blink I cant breathe,my heart is pounding harder then I have eve felt, my hands and feet were cold sweaty and numb. I went to stand up and my leggs were so wobbly I couldnt stand.

I go to the window to try to breathe some cold winter air and it helped a bit. I had this until about 3am and it went away only to come back at 5:30am. I should have gone to the hosiptal the first time at midsnight but I definatley went this time. I go there and they tell me it would be 8 hours until I would be seen?? I told them I thought I was having a heart attck, or there was something wrong for sure.

I sat there until 9am and then decided to calll family doc and he said come now. I went and saw him and explanied what happen. He said that what I described was very much hear attack syptoms. He sent me for a EKG???? they will get back to me if there is something serious but for the time being there is not much that can be done as the symptoms have gone away a bit. I still have a sore chest ( around heart area ) but dont feel to bad other wise.

As I said I have never been more scared in my life, the not being able to breathe is horryfying. I might stay off the PC for a few days guys and just try to do things that keep me "calm", I will check back on the diner.

Jeremy B:

DO you have a 911 emergency system up there? or at least an AMBULANCE service?

YES, you should have CALLED 911 OR THE AMBULANCE AT the FIRST sign of problems!

3 reasons {at least in the USA}:

1} They can get you in the ER faster IF there is something really wrong

2} Often They CAn start treatment onboard for things serious,

3] THAT IS WHAT THEY ARE THERE FOR.

If not, then YES, you should have gone right away. better to be safe than sorry!

They can often tell things like heart attack via an EKG. AN EKG allerted an ER doc to a problem {actually an anomaly} I have heart wise while i was in the ER for a totally different matter!

When in question, especially when alone, CALL FOR AN AMBULANCE!

I have added you to the prayer list! and lighted a candle for you!

Thanks Galaxy,

I admit I should have called for a ambulance at the first sign. And your right they probably can get me in faster. I never thought I might have a heart attack at age 32 ( again, they arent even sure if it was that ).
