We usually have Prime Rib for Christmas, but this year we are having Ham. Too bad, I picked out some really great wines to go with the prime ribs. We will have the Prim Rib later in the week when the sisters come over, but I cannot serve my best wines to them because they mostly do not care for the dry wines.

SANTA cleaned up my train room last night. The floor is all swept. Actually I was looking for a particular drill bit, which I did not find. I'll have to get another one from the shop.

Back home after a busy day.

Started out at my parents place for a huge breakfast and then on to the wifes moms for another great dinner and a visit to my grandparents for a visit on the way home. Tomorrow we go back to my moms for dinner and that will be it for christmas. I cant believe how fast the day has gone and am sure tomorrow will be the same.

I have to try to get over to the hobby shop this week as I have had a order there since early in the summer that I have keep forgetting about. I want to pick them up. I als have to head over to the other hobby shop I go to to give the fella there my walthers order. Might wait until Friday to do that, its going to be nuts out there with all the boxing day shoppers.

Talk to you guys in the morning. If I can get to the PC, I am so full at the moment, lol. Might go thumb through the new MR and my new Pelle Soeborg book

We went to my Father's, where Santa had left something for MOH and IGift!

Then we went to my FIL's and darned if the Jolly fat old elf didn't leave a present for us there tooGift!

Let's jsut say Santa was very good to us, and gave us just exactly what we needed!

In boht cases, we didn't go empty handed. Took dinner and a few small gifts of warmth to my father.

Took dinner to My FIL. He says "I don't need nuttin'.

Both will have a FEAST I cooked up! A little different form Ulrichs!

Ham,  Smashed taters, candied Sweet taters, veggies! Apple pie for dessert!

Christmas dinner was MUCH easier on my back to cook than TG, though I spent half a day doing it.

Well, Hope you'all got over to my "WHat did SAnta bring you?" Thread and told us all about it!

I enjoyed listening to my new HAwaiian Mele chants CD whilest I cooked!

Well, off soon to bed!

Have a great evening guys!

Just got back from my sisters place a little while ago. My niece loves the manicure/pedicure station I got her and she like to flipped when she saw the nail dryer. My sister is crazy about the Star Trek collectors set of drinking glasses I got her. Her husband likes that I got the DVD 'Red'. He's a Bruce Willis nut! And my nephew likes the Nascar Bobby Labonte Monte Carlo I got him. It's an AMT model and so has the detailed photos on the box showing what decals go where.

I got the SDFloppy II of course. I hooked it up to the drive controller in slot 5 of my //e as drive 2. I quickly located the copy of Oliver's adventure that I saved to it as a test a few days ago and saved an up to date copy to it tonight and checked it. The SDFloppy II is working great. Now if I want to work on the 'Native Fury' game at night I can save it when finished without the loud disk drive chatter.

I also got both of the new alternate reality Star Trek movies, Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness. I already have the first one but mine had a scratch on it that sometimes makes the movie do strange and not so wonderful things. Last but not least I the manuals on the flat screen TV I'm using as a monitor on my //e. My sister hasn't found the remote yet but says it has to be in her room someplace.

Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Well,

Naturally the holiday has its original meaning to me, and to My Other Half, just can't say more than that here!

I did not get the Zscale stuff I had hoped for for Christmas.  We did get a little cash, and I thought about telling MOH we'd each splurge with a little of it {which would get me a few Zscale stuffs}, but we have bills to pay off and things we need to do to the trailer that cost $$ so, I think we should do that instead. There isn't a lot of cash either, just a little.

We Didn't necessarily get what little we wanted for Christmas, but we got a LOT  of what we NEEDED. {Including Underwear, David!}

ANd that Makes the BEST Christmas presents! To get what you need, that is!

So, We are greatful!

All in all, a day spent with my father and with FIL is what is the most important. at 86, we never know when it will be FIL's last Christmas. My father is only 79, and healthy as a horse. Dunno. THis is the first Christmas without MIL.

Don't actually know when it will be our last Christmas either I guess, but chances are we will live long after Father and FIL pass.

HERE'S HOPING YOU ALL GOT WHAT YOU NEEDED FOR CHRISTMAS, TOO!

Merry Happy Day After Christmas!

I will NOT set foot into a store today either!

I can hear it now:

MusicShould auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind....Music

THE END IS NEAR! THE END IS NEAR! {of the year, that is!}

Good Morning!!!

Coffee please. Yes, just coffee thank you.

Peaceful day yesterday. No, no railroad stuff done, nor was any received but that is just as well. I did get a miter saw stand I wanted so now I don’t have to squat down and even worse, get back up ever time I cut a boardYeah. PLUS, no more fighting with a 2X4 to support the end of a longer boardYeah Yeah. Shoulda got one years ago. And a shirt and a pair of jeans. Like I said, the days of showering each other with gifts is long gone and that’s just fine with me. I look around and say what do I do with this. Too much as it is. I’m kinda like Galaxy, what you need, or more like what you can actually use. Not just something or be giving or getting something. Dinner was an hour late but I think she figured it would be and that’s why she said we’d eat at about 4 p.m.. That way, we still ate at 5. Then we loaded up the dog and drove around town and then Sherman looking at Christmas lights. Another “tradition” I could do without but…., peace on earth you know starts with the wife. Besides, the dog seems to like itYes. The amount of people who really go all out on decorating is declining I’ve noticed. Now you see more and more who do a small amount or nothing.

Don’t know what I’ll do today but I’ll soon find out I’m sure.

Ya’ll have a good day, ya hear!!!!

Good morning. It's 49° with 59% humidity. The high will be 56° and feel like 59°.

No plans set in stone today. I'm going to make a copy of the SDFloppy II's SD card then work with the copy to figure out exactly how it works. Once I've done that I'll wipe the files from the copy and copy some floppy disks to it and see what it's storage capacity is.

Other than that I have no plans.

Mornin' everyone!

Happy Boxing day and a happy first day of Kwanzaa.  My family appreciated Boxing Day as my late wife was the personal secretary to an ENT Doctor who was Canadien.  We could always count on visiting one side of the family or the other on the day after Christmas 1  (besides, Christmas is 12 days long and in the church year is a season rather than a day...)  I have many friends here in Geneva who celebrate Kwansaa so I'll wish all of you a great day, no matter what you celebrate today!

Zoe, I'll have a big bowl of hot oatmeal with brown sugar, bacon, and a mug of dark roast coffee please.

The sun just peeked out from behind a cloud!!!!  WOW!  Would be nice if it stuck around for a bit today...  Haven't made any significant electric here in a couple weeks.  I did clean off the panels yesterday.  They had a couple inches of fluffy white stuff on them.

Christmas Dinner yesterday was great as always.  We had Prime Rib and Ham, Potatoes au Graten, carrots, winter squash, rolls, and about 8 different pies and cakes to choose from for dessert....  I won't mention what my blood sugar is this morning.

I started to tell what I got for Chrstmas yesterday when I had to get over to my son's house...  Also got a daily calendar with train trivia on each page (Should be fun.  I may share from time to time.), a few Micro Mark tools, a new bathrobe, and a book titled "How to Tell if Your Cat is Plotting to Kill You!"  But the best gift is just to hang around with my (extended) family and enjoy all the busyness of the day.

I have to make another winter squash dish for dinner tomorrow at my sister's house in Canandaigua.  My DIL finally talked her into celbrating after Christmas Day so we could all relax and not have to be on a tight schedule to get back to my son's house for the next round of family stuff there.  I hope my sister finds it is a lot nicer to do it this way and will "change the Tradition" permanently.

I hope to get some stuff done on tyhe layout today among all the other things I have to do.  I best get doing it!

Well I've been studying copy I made of the SDFloppy II SD card. It has sixteen directories, numbered 0 thru 9 (1-10) and A thru F (11-16). Each directory consists of one (1) .DLL file and one (1) .DSK file and can hold the equivalent of one 5.25" floppy diskette. So one SD card can comfortably hold the contents of sixteen 5.25" diskettes. Disk utility programs that do a sweep of the file table contained in the .DSK file can display a list of the files when the user (me) uses the Applesoft command 'CATALOG' (same as 'DIR' in MS-DOS). However programs that look for track $11 (track 17) specifically can't display a list of the files nor can they copy files to or from the SDFloppy II. Copy 2+ is one of these utilities. The DOS 3.3 programs of the 'SYSTEM MASTER' utilities can work with the files all day long with no problem and can copy to and from the SDFloppy II just as if it's an Apple Disk II disk drive. Copying a diskette to the SDFloppy II is slightly faster as there's no delay waiting for a disk drive to come up to speed and index to the proper physical location of a diskette. I say slightly because the Apple IIe's processor speed is only 1.023 MHz so it can send data through the drive interface only so fast and the speed of the interface is also very limited. It can also INITIALIZE (format) the allocated space in the directory just as if it's a 5.25" diskette. I'm finding it to be a handy little device.

Afternoon All,

Hope everyone had a great Christmas. Our family all met  at my daughter's house for the get together and supper. My 2 grandson's put together a wooden train kit and painted it for me. It is now in a place of honor on my work bench.

John Boy- Hope you are doing well.

Jeremy B- I also hope you continue to do well.

Jeff- I have to admit that when you talk about computers, it goes in one ear and out the other without stopping. I understand almost nothing about computers.Surprise It looks like you are very good with them.

Hope everyone has a good night and prayers for those in need.

I used to be very good at getting into trouble with them. Ask the government. The newer computers I'm not real good with. I can take them apart, fix them and put them back together but that's about it. The old computers from the 80's and 90's are my cup of tea. I trained myself to become a tech and programmer back in the 80's but I didn't keep up with the technology.

Hi Guys

Well Christmas is over for another year for us with dinner at my parents place tonight. We usually go over for dinner on Sundays but the whole family was over tonight and it was great to see the kids open there presents and get excited and just generally have a great time and forget about lifes problems for awhile. Just had a great christmas this year on my side and the wifes side.

But for me I find January and February somewhat depressing. Dark, cold, snowy and just the sudden drop in excitement from Christmas. The travelling and going back and forth at christmas time gets to be a bit too much but I do enjoy spedning time with the family.

Tomorrow the wife goes back to work and after that we are going to two hobby shops to pick up a few items. Just a few freight cars and some atheran parts. Might pick up a jar or two of the mig pigments.

Talk to you guys in the morning.

Evenin' folks!

Nothing except a refill on the decaf for me Janie, I just baked two batches of toll house cookies...  Ah, well yes, I have to eat a few too make sure of quality control you know!

Jeremy

,  I love January and february for the same reason you don't like it.  It means I may actually get some time to work on the layout!!!  Man am I behind with the things I have planned down there.

Tomorrow is the Christmas Dinner and exchange of gifts at my sister's house.  I made another batch of winter squash to take their, and some of the cookies will tsg along to be distributed along with several gifts.  I decided not to give her one of the gifts I bought for her.  It is a plaque that reads, "I haven't been the same since the house fell on my sister."  She will probaly take it wrong....  Maybe not and that would be even worse.... Whistling

She found out that her outdoor kitty, Klim, got locked into a neighbors garage for a month while they were in Flowiduh!  He appears to none the worse for wear, but has been hanging around her house constantly.  he showed up and was meowing nostop even after she went and got him food and water....  He wanted her to hold him and just kept on meowing....  Poor little guy.  He is very friendly to me and a few other people he knows but mostly my sister.  Anyone he doesn't know,  GONE!

Need to feed the woodstove.  Later!

Earlier today I made a template that would enable me to quickly copy sixteen blank directories to an SD card for use with my SDFloppy II disk drive emulator. I copied it to an SD card a little while ago. That took less than two minutes then put the card to the acid test. I copied an entire diskette to directory 0 without a problem then changed to directory 3 where I copied four files and did write protect tests on them, renamed them, locked them then unlocked them then deleted them. All went without a hitch. My template is a complete success! This is like you guys repairing an old favorite loco and having it pass all it's tests with flying colors.

morning coffee in the diner...

GOOD FRIDAY MORNING!

Today is Friday,

December 27th, 2013!!!

The end is coming, the end is coming! {Of the year, that is!}

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY

Today's word:

Gadaboutnoun: One who roams around in search of amusement

Etymology:

From "gad" (to go around from one place to another aimlessly). Earliest documented use: 1817.
Usage:
"The film charted Zelda Kaplan's transformation from homemaker to social gadabout flitting from party to party."
Ruth La Ferla; Zelda Kaplan; The New York Times; Feb 18, 2012.

I forgot:

Special thoughts and prayers with prayer candles for:

Johnboy-out; For Jeremy B., for others who neeed them, and for world peace.

In the spirit of the Atheist thread here on the forum:

You don't have to believe in a Diety {and thusly "prayer" as it might be thought of in the religious nature}  to believe the universe has powerful healing energy{ies} to heal those in need if we direct our energy patterns in the direction of those who need healing thoughts/energy/prayers!

Jeremy B: I hate Jan-March, too, and often thought they should have picked mid-February to celebrate Christmas, so we'd have festivness in the dead of winter. BUT: I look at it this way: February is the SHORTEST month of the year so it is over in a jiffy. Perhaps when the calendar was set up, they knew what they were doing? Being Bi-polar, I am naturally prone to depressions, and must be careful in the dead of winter to NOT be extra-depressed, and hope for a more livelier "manic" episodes-though those can have consequences too...

Make today a GREAT day!

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and breakfast burrito please. Thanks.

Jeffrey- Oh My!! I didn’t realize how small that SD drive thing is. Well, I guess I did, it just didn’t hit me until I saw it next to the 5.25 drives. Thing probably gets lost under your thumb!

Duck Dynasty St Patty’s hats…Hmm..I wonder if there’ll be a Phil one or do their convictions end with a dollar to be made. Could be interesting. Especially since many are calling for a boycott of anything labeled Duck Dynasty as that is an A&E profiting item. They're saying buy Duck Commander instead because that is a 100% Robertson family item of which A&E has no take. Now I am NOT saying do anything of the kind, nor am I saying I do, will or will not. Just saying what I heard and read and am curious as to how it unfolds.

( Comment edited out by me because well.....,   keeps Vinnie from having to possibly step up sometime. Maybe, maybe not. It just makes me feel better for the forum  either way.)

Welp, w*rk again tonight and in the meantime…more cleaning out.

WElp!

I just thought I'd pop in ot see the mornign greetings and my saved link comes up "web page not found"!

I had to come in the "back door" and type in trains.com.

TODD: it is amazing all the atrocities created and carried out in the name of "religion"! I will say no more! IT is supposed to be of love caring and forgiveness, tolerance and getting along peacefully was the basic principles of the man who walked the earth 2000 years ago. Amazing how that often seems not the case in the name of "religion"! That's all I'll say on the subject afore i get a moderator after you and me!

Ducky Dynasty ..pish posh, don't follow it don't care to...

welp, on to laundry and boring mundane thing-a-ma-giggers!

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Mornin' everyone!

A great 3rd. day of Christmas to all of you and second day of Kwanzaa, and the seventh day of the Yule...  There I have most everything covered....

I will be heading out to my sister's house to again celebrate the Season with her (what ever she has decided to do this year Whistling)  I just went down to the local chocolate shop to buy a few more bags of Bark for the folks at the party and found they are closed until Jan. 2nd.  Guess the chocolate chip cookies will have to do instead.

Galaxy

you and I think the same on certain subjects.  As far a Duck DieNasty goes, I think the whole thing started out as an unauthorized publicity stunt and went very bad....  Too bad those that hold very narrow ideas about right and wrong seem to be totally OK with some other Taboos like... (OK I will shut up now before I get into trouble).  Looks like I missed some fun out on the main forum as there appears to be some "missing" threads there.  Hmmmmm......

Just about time for me to pack the PiP and head to Canandaigua.

Hope all of you have a wonderful day filled with Peace and Joy!  Don't forget to be caring, be a friend to all, and forgive all those who have done you harm in any way!

Good Evening GAng!

I finally got around doing some MRRing today! Nothing really fancy, but I started to w*rk on that cardboard mock-up for the lil´ critter I have been pesting you folks with the last couple of weeks. It is far from being finished - there is quite some more detail to be added, but this is a sneak preview of what it looks lie after about 8 hours of blood, sweat and tears:

... and herecompared to that On30 critter:

G scale is quite big, isn´t it?

Ray - that´s a good one! Took me a minute to get it - I must be getting older!

Make it a great day!

TMarsh
Jeffrey- Oh My!! I didn’t realize how small that SD drive thing is. Well, I guess I did, it just didn’t hit me until I saw it next to the 5.25 drives. Thing probably gets lost under your thumb!

Well it's not quite that small. It's an inch high, inch and a half across and about two inces deep. If it drops down out of sight I can reel it in with the big drive cable that's plugged ino it.

Good afternoon. It's 51° with 43% humidity. The high will be 58° and it is cloudy. Looks like maybe a 50% chance of rain Saturday.

I haven't had any computer time today as I've been with my father while he was out running errands. Besides the usual stops at the post office and pharmacy we also went to Burger King for lunch. I tried the 'Angry Whopper' and I like it. From there we went to Wal-Mart to pick up some groceries and I got a new 8Gb SD card which I've already formatted and transferred my SDFloppy II template to it. It's already in the SDFloppy II drive emulator. So far I've copied my System Master diskette onto it so I can access the system utilities directly.

Well it's taken me about an hour to type up this post. I was interrupted by the Home Health nurse who checks up on my general health and looks after my remaining natural foot. She also checked my stump to make sure the prosthesis isn't doing anything bad to it. That all took about forty-five minutes.

Evening/afternoon guys

Cool and cloudy here today. Christmas to me feels like it was already weeks ago, cant believe it has come and gone. Went to the hobby shop today to pick up a couple freight car kits and some atheran parts as welll as a can of dullcote. Might start putting together one of them tonight. There is a train show in a few weeks and I sometimes buy a couple there as well. Other then that not much going on here. Thanks Galaxy for the kind words, Im feeling better now but still have to get some bloodwork done next week sometime.

Talk to you guys later tonight or tomorrow.

I've been sitting down in the layout room doing some serious thinking about just what I'm going to do with the darn thing. The more I work on it the more I see the problems with it like too much hidden track... how will I keep it clean. Grades that are too steep in places and limited operational possibilities.

Some where along the line, I seem to have strayed too far from the original plan and it just doesn't seem to be a good idea to continue.

The other thing that I find is that I just can't seem to get motivated to work on the darned thing given the foregoing. Oh yes, one more thing.... it seems to be overwhelming in size.

All of which tells me to tear it down and build a smaller layout that has some chance of getting finnished. Use a published plan that is a proven winner and just get on with the whole process.

I hate to say it but I really should have taken heed of an article back a few years ago about a fellow who downsized his home and built a new layout in a much more attainable size give his reduced level of income, age etc.

Sooo, I think once we get past all this Christmas/New Year stuff, the wrecking ball will be going into action.

Now to find a track plan that I can live with. Embarrassed

Best of the season to you all.
