Hi Guys Just a update:
It happen again today with the shortness of breath and heart racing, not as bad as before but still went to the hospital. They ran a battery of tests and say my heart is fine and my blood pressure is good,it was racing when I went it but went down. They also think it might be stress and want me to follow up with my doc this week. He gave me a few breathing exercises to try if it happens again
Mint tea, please.
FINALLY dropped off the pickup truck for "fixin'". So, when it is running reliably again, I can pick up the lumber for making some new expansion tables for the (HO) layout. Has been a long time since doing anything with it. The New year will bring some positive changes.
Healing thoughts to all of you in need.
Cheers! Rob

Oh man, I found a gold mine of Apple II programs today. I just kinda stumbled on it while I was looking for something else. It has utilities, games, education, home, you name it, it's there. And every thing is in DSK format which is what my SDFloppy ][ uses. I downloaded ten today, half of those are games, the other half are system utility programs. I had tried to copy my two main ProDOS utility disks into DSK format but they wouldn't go. I kept getting errors. Guess what I found on that site! The two very ProDOS utility program disks I need already in DSK format. I have them on an SD card now. The other three utility program disks are two I used to have and one is an updated form of one I already have. They are all on an SD card now AND I copied them onto floppy diskettes in program form so I can use them that way as well. The games aren't anything really stunning by today's standards but they were big in their time. They as well are all on an SD card now. I got 'SKYFOX', 'STAR WARS', 'ZAXXON', CHAMPIONSHIP LODE RUNNER', 'CASTLE WOLFENSTEIN'. Other games I have on SD are 'STARFLEET1', 'LODE RUNNER', 'HELL HOUSE', 'AZTEK', 'PACMAN', 'ZORK I', 'ZORK II', 'ZORK III', 'MOONMIST', 'D-DAY', 'BEE CRUNCH', 'SHARK BAIT' and a whole slew of arcade and adventure games and yes I have 'Native Fury' on SD too even though it isn't finished yet. To say I've been busy today is kind of an understatement. My PC copies the DSK files onto the SD cards at over 2.6 Ghz but my old slow Apple //e processes them into usable form at 1.02 Mhz. That was slow even back in 1982 but that's part of the charm of these old machines in today's world where everyone wants the fastest, newest, glitziest whatever that's out there not because they NEED it in many cases but simply because they WANT it. I know people who get a new cell phone every month simply because their old one is a MONTH OLD or it has a barely visible scratch on it. Jeez! I'm using a Blackberry that I got BEFORE our current president won his FIRST term! And it wasn't even new then! It was refurbished! That thing is older than most peoples cars and it still works fine. I paid nothing for it, the service is free, I get 150 free minutes a month which is more than I need. Now I'm not saying that I enjoy using OLD things, they're just what I have and what I can afford. Sometimes I even use them in self defense. A couple of years ago a young lady half my age was trying to come on to me and I didn't want anything to do with her. I simply told her she's too young. She challenged that and I told her 'Honey, I own a van that's older than you are'. I never saw her again and I don't miss her a bit.Well it's time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Yeah I am also glad that it has nothing to do with my heart that they can see through the tests. The ER doc wants me to follow up with my family doc to see what can be done. He did give me some pills a couple weeks ago that go under your toungue that help calm you down. They take about 15-25 minutes to work. The attack came around 12:15 and I took the pills and they kicked in around 1;00 or so, right when I was sitting in the ER, I figurew I was there I might as well stay as the wait was short ( only a hour ). I am going to give my doc a call and see if I can get in sometime today or tomorrow.
If another attack happens I will take the pills and give them a few minutes more to work and slow my breathing down. I guess thats where the term stop and smell the roses came from? just take some time each day to just breathe.
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, How about a short stack of Buckwheat Pancakies with real NYS Maple Syrup, and side order of bacon, and lots of dark roast coffee for my R&GV RR Mug? Thank you Ma'am!
A few stray little white thingies floating around outside my window this morning... Partly Cloudy I think they call it. We may get a half inch of "partly cloudy" here today. No sun in sight. Still dark, gray, gloomy and this morning cold (18°F) out there. "But since I've no place to go..."
I think I shall tackle several end of the year items still needing to get done today! Catch you all later!
[edit] Oh! I have been waiting almost 2 years for Details West to start making their little code 70 plastic railbars. They told me there was a problem with the mold and it was taking longer to fix it than they liked... Well after postponement after postponement, Walthers finally listed them as "In Stock"! I checked a couple other places that are usually cheaper that I like to do business with and they were still listed as "not in stock" so I ordered 15 packages from Walthers. They will be shipped today. YES! Now I can get the detailing done in the yard in Kanandarque and beyond! I put a couple hundred more ties in place yesterday and hope to fill in the gaps on the windows and doors still left to do on the Blacksmith's Shop!

Hi Fellas,
I have a apoinment for 2:30, hopefully we can get this somewhat figured out. I will report back later. Hopefuuly some layout work later. I also have freight cars coming tomorrow.
Good Afternoon!
It´s been a busy day today. Year end shopping run, cleaning the house, and - the best of it - w*rking on that cardboard mock-up loco, which is nearing completion.
I learned quite a lot during the construction:
A few more details will be added tomorrow - like windshield wipers. Going to be tough to make them out of cardboard
I am surprized how strong that cardboard structures is after receiving a coat of primer and another coat of paint. Still, cardboard is not the right material for "serious" jobs, better to use sstyrene or even brass sheetstock.
JeremyB - stress can cause your heart to ache and race - guess how I know that... Keeping my fingers crossed for your doc appointment.
Continuing prayers for Johnboy!
Make it a great day!
well
ERm, looks like RAY is getting the top twice in a row now! Better he than me!
Went to the Wally WOrld, to the glasses place to get my glasses fixed, to the CU, to the insurance man, to the pharamcy, to the DSS, to my fathers, Then called for a script refill, SO I been Around the Town this morning!
Jeremy- Good that its not the heart, but STress can affect you seriously! DO you know what the stressors are? Can you remove it/them? Oh, you're married to it? SOrry then...lol
Ulrich BOY that is bright yellow! "Neon yellow" in the pic.
Well. I'd best grab a nap before my other half gets home.
later....
SPecial thoughts and prayers for those who need them...
Good afternoon. It's 41° with 88% humidity. The high will be 45° with a small chance of rain. with a Been busy this morning downloading software for my //e. My Starfleet1 game is quite old and has some errors that were causing problems so I got replacement programs. I'll copy my personnel records from the old one later. Other programs I got are:APPLE ACCESS IIAPPLE WRITER IIAPPLE DISK TRANSFERAPPLE DIAGNOSTICS V2.0 and VER2.1DISK REPAIR KITLOCKSMITHRAMDISK EMULATORBURGERTIMEI figure that should keep me busy for a little while at least.I need another SD card for these so I asked my father to get me from from Wal-Mart today. The nice thing is I can have the SD cards serve double duty. I can only store sixteen 5.25 diskettes on each one so they can still be used in my camera and for data storage on my PC.Only other thing going on today is I'm doing a load of laundry. Yeah, I've finally gotten to the point that I can negotiate the steps to the laundry room well enough to get in and out of there. I hope to be able to climb higher steps soon.
galaxyUlrich BOY that is bright yellow! "Neon yellow" in the pic.
... that´s not the yellow I wanted to get, but the only one available - afterall, it´s only a mock-up and not the real thing.
It´ll be completed by tomorrow - a fun project to do.
Extra strong Italian roast coffee, please.
Garry & Jeffrey, enjoyed the terrific layout pics.
Healing thoughts to those in need.
Afternoon folks!
Chloe, a cup of hot chocolate would be nice right now...
Good to see some old faces back here lately!
I have completed the last 3 sides of the Blacksmith's shop today! YES!!!
All 8 sides are now ready to be assembled into the main building.
Later!
Good afternoon.
Inch ... Thanks for commenting. I thought people would see humor in my name choce for the company being picketed. Hope you are OK now.
Todd ... Thanks for the remark. All figures are held in place with clear adhesive called "Goop". I looked up Hostess logos and printed two for a building which had no signs. The building is a background building.
Ulrich ... I'm very impressed with the model locomotive made from cardboard. Amazing work.
Ray .... Your blacksmith shop is outstanding so far.
We're still busy with holiday visits and also lots of birthdays.
Happy model railroading.
HI Guys,
Just thought I would check in. I have to go for bloodwork tomorrow morning. Cant eat after 7pm tonight, no big deal. I will go early for 7am to get it out of the way. Maybe just spend the night flipping through some MR magazines.
Talk to you guys in the morning.
Been busy recoding some programs today. All were set up to run on Apple II computers but some for II's, some for II+'s, some for IIe's. They're all Apple II's so what's the big deal right? Mostly the way the memory is set up. The Apple II and II+ take 16k extra memory from a memory card and bank switch it over their ROM memory so whatever is stored in THAT extra memory can be used as if it's IN ROM and it doesn't detract much from the 48k of main RAM memory which can be used for running software. The IIe on the other hand takes 64k of extra memory from a memory card and bank switches it over it's 64k of main RAM memory giving it 128k RAM. This leaves more space in the main RAM for running software as program data can be stored and executed in the 64k of extra RAM. It only has 16k of ROM memory and nothing from the memory card can be stored or used there. Is everybody confused now? An additional compication but nothing I can't remedy is that some of these programs were made to run from 13-sector diskettes in DOS 3.2. I'll be running them from 16-sector diskettes in DOS 3.3 so unless the were converted at the time the were stored as ROM's I may have to convert some of them. The CP/m programs aren't a problem as my computer has a Z80 co-processor.Hey, I came across some really old programs. Who remembers Wordstar? Anybody? maybe this will jump start your memory:I'll be posting some photos in the near future from some of the software I found. It's gonna be fun transferring this stuff to floppy disks.Been getting in some more walking today and I'm getting much better going up and down steps. However I still have to see where I'm putting the feet so carrying something in front of me is still problematic.
Chamomile tea, please.
***Ray, that is going to be one neat looking building. Looking forward to seeing the completed project.
My internet connection is getting a workout. Remember the site I said had lots of software for my //e? I have a mega download of all the recorded Apple II software they have in progress. No, scratch that. It just completed! Now it have it being copied to another drive just in case. It's in the form of a .ZIP file and it's 197MB in size and contains many hundreds, maybe a couple thousand .DSK files! Almost all of the files are less than 60 kilobytes in size. They consist of applications, compilations, demonstrations, educational content, games and operating systems. I think I got everything they had for the II, II+, IIe and IIc. I don't know. The Wal-Mart and Walgreen's here may run low on SD cards before I run out of software ROM's. Jeez! I didn't realize they had SO much! OK, the copy to the solid state drive is now complete. That alone took about ten minutes.Does anybody know if there's something that can safely store say ten of fifteen SD cards at a time? I mean something that's actually made to do that job. It's now 12:20am Later today my father will be putting the black-eye peas on to cook. To that he'll add ham hocks, cabbage, rice, some bacon or salt pork. Cornbread and collard greens will be provided as side dishes. That's pretty much our traditional New Years day meal.
morning coffee in the diner..
Meaning: The Anglicized version of 'auld lang syne', which means old long-since or old long-ago.
The phrase has been a commonplace in Scots for centuries and isn't far removed from the English 'once upon a time'. Of course, the best-known use of the phrase is Robert Burns' poem Auld lang syne, the words of which are sung in English-speaking countries around the world each New Year's Eve, to a tune that Burns said he transcribed from an old man's singing of it.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and never brought to mind?Should auld acquaintance be forgot, and auld lang syne? Chorus:For auld lang syne, my dear, for auld lang syne,we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,for auld lang syne. And surely ye’ll be your pint-stowp! And surely I’ll be mine! And we’ll tak a cup o’ kindness yet,for auld lang syne. We twa hae run about the braes, and pou’d the gowans fine; But we’ve wander’d mony a weary fit, sin’ auld lang syne. We twa hae paidl’d in the burn, frae morning sun till dine; But seas between us braid hae roar’dsin’ auld lang syne. And there’s a hand, my trusty fiere! And gies a hand o’ thine! And we’ll tak a right gude-willie-waught,for auld lang syne. Burns' version builds on earlier works. Poems and songs with somewhat similar text have been found dating back as far as anonymous ballad in the Bannatyne Manuscript of 1568. Another version, the first that contains a form of the 'auld lang syne' phrase, is attributed to the courtly poet Sir Robert Ayton (1570-1638). Should auld acquaintance be forgot,And never thought upon,The flames of love extinguished,And freely past and gone?Is thy kind heart now grown so coldIn that loving breast of thine,That thou canst never once reflectOn old-long-syne

MAKE IT A GREAT DAY!
Special thoughts and prayers go out to those in need!
Good Morning on this very last day of the year 2013!
I am certainly not unhappy about this year coming to an end. It has been a year of challenges and grief, and too little happiness. I do hope, that 2014 will be a much better year for all of us!
Special thoughts and prayers to all friends in need - and also thoughts and prayers for those on the mile long MIA list!
I´ll be finishing the cardboard mock-up toda. Only a small detail is missing - the windshield wipers. Building the real modell will be my 2014 project - I doubt that I´ll be able to start on a layout next year. There are some health issues I need to take care of.
CU next year and make it a great day!

Ray, The blacksmith shop looks amazing so far, can't wait to see it done!
Ulrich, Wow, the engine looks great, but that yellow!! Anybody seen my sunglasses??
Howdy Gang!Looking at another day, partly cloudy and a high of 42. Not a whole lot going on today, just getting ready for tonight's festivities. SWMBO and I are actually going to be out tonight! Son #2 is hosting a New Year's bash at his house! Since it is about an hour away, so we have reserved a spare bedroom there! It will be us and about a dozen of his friends, who are all a blast to hang out with. And of course, there will be music, libations (for those who surrender their keys upon arrival) and the "old folks" are bringing Cards Against Humanity with them. Its an insanely funny adult card game, that goes for hours with the right group!Train wise, I did remotor my brass Baldwin 4-4-1500 yesterday, and slapped a decoder in it. I used a motor out of a "donor" Walthers FA1 and I'm tempted to go back and replace the trucks too from the FA1. That incessant whining from the gear towers was getting on my nerves last night. Plus I got an eBay lot in the mail yesterday. 3 Mantua shells, a Penn Line Midget diesel shell and an old Hustler. I put bands on the Hustler last night and it took off like a rocket! Not sure if I'm gonna keep it yet. I only bought the lot for the Mantua shells. Everything went into the stripper tank last night(lousy paint jobs) so we'll see. In case I don't get back later,
Happy New Year!!
May the New Year bring health and prosperity to us all!
Karl
NCE über alles!
kbkchoochUlrich, Wow, the engine looks great, Bow but that yellow!! Anybody seen my sunglasses??Cool
Isn´t that yellow something! It helps us to control our energy bill - it glows at night, so we can switch the lights off!
That´s not the yellow the real model will have, I can assure you. It hurts my eyes.
Good morning.. Happy New Years Eve.
Galaxy.... Thanks for psoting about Auld Lang Syne. Are you planning to wear your kilts and sing to us?
Karl .... That's an interesting group of locomotives. It would make a remarkable lash-up!... I suppose a 4-4-1500 would make an interesting wheel arrangemnt, too.
Inch .... It's nice you live where you can do so much train watchimg. Can't do it here, but some of the tow boats have EMD diesel power.
Ulrich.... Careful with the colors on the critter. Some nuts might acuse you of causing global warming.
Today is the birthday for 2 of our kids who will be 37 and 35 today. (Shelley and I, both being finance and accounting tyopes, planned that just in time for a tax break when they were born. )
Cheers
