Man, CUDAKEN does like the rock 'n roll.... Rock on dude, rock on.Thumbs Up

DER JOHN: Good to see you! Neat little ship. What was the scale? 1:700? Zoiks!  'Ats probably no sweat for you, just another day at the office right?Smile, Wink & Grin

VINCENT: I haven't popped the cover off the trucks, but I think THAT's what they did (drop-in Athearn for time bomb P2K gears). The loco wasn't listed as having DCC and sound, but papers THAT came with it say it has all THAT. Well (getting low, toads are begging for rain), I'm going to be running old-school DC in a few years when I get THAT far. Stripping the Toledo, Peoria & Western paint will come later this year. Then it will replace a blue box Athearn done up as CNW 4132. For now, she sits on the shelf with other projects awaiting parts, time and funds.

RAY: Yes Sir, somedays I DO really, really enjoy my job. Especially hanging out with the ladies at various times during lulls in the event. The host department had a little cutie first-up in the ladies' event, a nice contrast to some of the other entrants in THAT field of competitors...Whistling Yeah, they handled the hose line just fine, and worked the nozzle well. Although, rather than visions of them putting out fires, I had "Light My Fire" playing in my head for some reason....

*CLANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG!*

Sorry Flo, I'll behave myself.Black Eye

Well (down so low, the toads now want parachutes before jumping down into it, and a ladder to get back up), I noodled-around a bit in the RR room, just slapping some scrap track sections around. Here's one thought as to how the Chicago Central yard might be rendered. The most crucial thing will be where and how the "mainline," the CNW, will meet with and branch off to the CC. Where THAT track meets the wall (at left) will determine where a hole will be cut for the trek into my office and the staging yard.

The real connection would be the curve to the left, after the track passes where the Milwaukee Road roundhouse used to sit. I'm thinking of having it come in off the right. Beyond the wall on the left is a short hallway leading to an attic space. I'll need a lift-out section in there. Beyond THAT is my office and the staging yard. I don't want a lot of  trackage on the lift-out, so THAT left-curving track may be a dummy, more or less.

If'n I was to go totally prototype layout on this, everything to the right would be the "City Yard" and the CNW (ex-RI) North Yard. I've toyed with the idea, even letting myself live with the thought of the straight yard curving around three walls. A possible peninsula addition would allow me to include either Rousch Products (bakery stuff) and/or the Iowa Electric Light and Power Company pole yard to some degree. North Yard would be compressed and significantly shortened, but I think I could get enough of it to have people who know the area say "oh yeah, THAT's North Yard."

Operations would be yard switching, yard switching, more yard switching, transfers to and from the CC, running trains to staging to simulate the switch jobs going to Quaker Oats, Cargill and places along the way like Jerabek Distributing (cheap beers), Loftus Distributing (lumber products) Iowa Steel and Iron Works (foundry) and RESCAR (rail car repair shop). Runs into and out of staging would also represent the "drag" running from Beverly Yard to the North Yard, exchanging cars and returning; as well as the North Yard to Beverly drag (third shift).

The CRANDIC would still be able to appear, coming in from staging (representing coming from across town and up the 4th St. corridor) into the CC yard, and returning to staging. The Iowa Northern can also run through the North Yard to staging (representing a run to the CRANDIC) before coming back to tie-up for the night before departing for Waterloo (north of Cedar cRapids).

Geech! I'm seriously starting to talk myself into this!!!!!

I'd also be able to build a big chunk of Quaker Oats, as a series of flats. Hmmmmmm.

In other words, there's still a lot of w**k to be done even if it is all "yard."

Quaker Oats "Elevator G" grain dump and remains of the former "grain yard."

Iowa Northern laying-over at the North Yard

I think I may have had an epiphiny...epipiffany...epipheny... a good and sudden realization of an idea!Idea

To the yard diagrams Batman!

Goood Morning America1

Today´s June 18th, 2012 - which happens to be Paul McCartney´s 70th (!) birthday!

Got up way too early this morning, continuing sleeping issues!

Zoe, strong coffee and a cinnamon roll, please.

Germany beat Denmark 2:1 in yesterday´s soccer match. From what Petra told me, it was a thrilling match. I was busy running the evening local down my line, so I missed it - dang!

Nothing really planned for the day. I may make a list of supplies I need to continue to work on my layout. There is room for another 3 modules on my shelf, two being the little passing station I have already layed the track, and, of course, the still missing temple module. The structures I´d need for that are out of stock in Japan, I am waiting for the restocking email (since beginning of this year). Not that I have the money to buy them, but it´ll be good to know they are available again. Most of the upcoming work will be adding more detail to the modules. I am also looking into super-detailing that little tank engine I have. Compared to the other steamers, it looks a little bland. I will install MicroTrains couplers, as I am unhappy with the looks of those Arnold big bulkies. Coupler release levers, grab irons, a snow plow and a smoke stack cap will have to follow,. This should certainly enhance the look of it quite a bit.

Chris - nice fire department, where do I have to go to to join?

Bang, clonk - ouch!

Have a good one!

Good Morning...June 18th, 2012
Posted by galaxy on Monday, June 18, 2012 2:21 AM

GOOD MORNING!!!

Today is June 18th, 2012!!!

Enjoy your day!!!

Oh, and since I didn't post the begining of the month, Here is the meaning:

June -- Juno's month

Middle English jun(e)
Old French juin
Old English junius
Latin Junius "of Juno"
Latin Junius mensis "month of Juno"

Junius had 30 days, until Numa when it had 29 days, until Julius when it became 30 days long.

Juno is the principle goddess of the Roman Pantheon. She is the goddess of marriage and the well-being of women. She is the wife and sister of Jupiter. She is identified with the Greek goddess Hera.

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a Denver omelet with extra cheese please, thanks

Dog got me up at 4:00. That’s ZERO 4. Turns out she just wanted my spot in bedGrumpy. Brenda’s response? “You’ll get up in an hour anyway. Take an hour nap this afternoon. Now be quiet” Can you believe THAT!!??  Can YOU be-LIEVE that!!?? You just wait. Next time she wants her feet rubbed I’m not doing it! And as for Brenda….WELL!!..Hmm... I don’t know. Kinda scared of her.

Boy I tell you what. I sure enjoy those pictures that Jon Grant posts of his layouts. I think he does outstanding work. Just awesome.

DerJon- So glad you stopped in. I see you’re still working on getting a good case of eye strain. Great job as usual by the way.

Joe- Happy Birthday yesterday!!

As opposed to a photgraphic memory, my mind is like a very effective drain tube.

I did go down to the trainroom yesterday to shake my head at the mess and kinda reacquaint myself with were I wasYeah. I still realize my problem with compression and making effective use of the space I have when it comes to scenery. Something “we” can work on when I get back in there AND…it may not be that long before I won’t feel too guilty spending some time in there cleaning up and making room for me. (double)Yeah

Rest of June will be kinda hectic as we prepare for the visit of her cousin for a few days over the 4th of July holiday. Of course Williamsville is having there’s on the 1st and we are as usual, heavily involved in that so guess when they’re coming up? Yup, the 30th.Confused

I’m not real good with house guests and keeping them “entertained” if you will. Especially when I barely know them. Brenda has to w**k so that leaves me to…do….something......with them. Maybe I’ll suggest they go visiting relatives they just saw.Sad Gonna be a long 4 or 5 days.

I am NOT gonna ask what those two locos are doing. Looks like the age requirement for the diner this month just went up to 18.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Good morning.  Hope you all had a happy Fathers' Day.  We finished off our weekend with a lobster dinner, corn and homemade clam chowder, with tiramasu and assorted pastries for dessert.  Mmmmm.

The Firefighters Race at Sunday River is a popular annual event.  Yes, they ski down a marked slalom coarse in full gear, all carrying a fire hose.

Later, everyone meets at the lodge for a Chili Cookoff, and something to put the fire out.

Good morning, Chloe.  I will have a large coffee, please.

Thanks, Jeffrey, for the photo.  I was impressed that you had one to photograph.Thumbs Up

MrB,  Looks like you have a long ski season.  We still have snow out here, but things are winding down.  Many of the areas are closed now.

Sue, ski season is long gone, but I thought the photos went with the ones on the previous page.

I actually got out for a bicycle ride yesterday.  I used to ride a lot more, and I'm hoping to do more this season.  I've put on too much weight since I stopped my regular riding, and it would be nice to leave some of that out on the road.

Hi Fellas, getting warm out already.

I have a question for you guys?

I am doing my resume up now ( lost my job in the fall and severance is almost up ) I am trying to spiff it up a bit but how do you spiff up a resume when you have only worked two jobs in your life? I am 30 years old now and I started my first job when I was 15 years old until I was 21 and my second job I started the day after I left the first and worked there until I was 30.

Alot of people tell me that that's actual good thing, is this true? My resume isn't all that big as I have only worked for two companies, lol but have held different positions within them all.

Any tips would be great from you guys, I know there are alot of fellas here that can offer some help.

Jeremy

On the railroad front I plan on doing some more weathering on some gondolas today as it will be too warm out to do much.

Mornin'

Well already got the day's laundry finished/in process/nearly done. Dishes half done.

Our male cat has been coming out to the LR more and did this morning for morning routine. He has been avoiding/guarded around us. I guess he is getting more relaxed now. I am sure he misses Munchie.

Tonight is garbage out night..if my back holds up there are a lot of things I'd like to get tossed, too.

MOH found the exact duplicate coffee maker to the one we had. Maybe it will last as long? {about 3 years}. THE only difference is this one is stainless covered. I didn't ask the price since we can't afford whatever it was anyway. CC time. I'll know whent the bill comes.

JOE- Happy B-Day from Yesterday!

Have a great day!

Jeremy, resume-writing has become a game.  With so many people looking for work, companies get hundreds of resumes for every job opening.  So, they turn to "modern technologies" and have software evaluate resumes for them.  So, that means that you need to pump your resume up with buzzwords, just to get it by the computer program and into the hands of someone who will read it.  Yes, it's a terrible system.

If you're looking for a job with a smaller company, you'll have a better chance of getting your resume read.  When I look at a resume, I look for evidence of career growth and increasing assumption of more responsibility.  A continuous record of employment like you've had is also a plus - no one wants a "job hopper."  Where you feel that your experience doesn't exactly match the job description, you can spin that positively by saying you're interested in a new direction in a growing industry,

Good Morning Railfans!

I got the chance to attend Goose Fest 2012 this year as part of the VIP package and WOW, it's was worth every penny!  I have Day #1 <Click Here> of the three days I attended now posted on my travel blog.  On Sunday we broke the record high (97F) so I was sure glad I got in nearly everything I wanted to see / do by Saturday.

Right now it's 72F heading for another record high of 99F today which is way above normal and the RED FLAG warnings are out for most of the state.  The SMOKE today is heavy in the city so stepping outside is like being next to a camp fire and right now Colorado is 100% on a NO BURN situation.

FIRE NEWS:

We have several fires going now but the big one is still nasty.  At this point, it's over 56,000 acres, 181 homes destroyed, 1 dead, and 45% contained.  There are now 1,700 Fire Fighters on the ground and hopefully we can get all the Air Support going again but the winds have been keeping the helicopters ground.

The Springer fire the broke out near Lake George, CO is now at 400 acres and 200 people have already fled from that one

Fears of more fires breaking out today are high with the high temperatures and winds...

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have the Eggs Benedict and a mug of dark roast coffee in my favorite mug....  Ah, yes the R&GV RR one.....

Rob, my prayers go out for your Brother and the whole family!

I've been seeing large dump trucks going up and down my street this morning, so the paving has commenced at the other end of the street complex where I live.  My street ultimately ends in a circle so they started with it.  Makes sense so they won't be driving back over freshly laid asphalt......

I will have to be loading the sound equipment I still have laying around the property on Wednesday to provide a system for our churches Strawberry Festival that night.  I'm hoping they won't be paving right in front of my house by that time, thereby not allowing me to get down to the church..... I may have to move it tomorrow and find someplace at the church to store it overnight.  Fun and games!

Catch you all later!

Good morning. It's 80° and partly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms. The high will be 88°.

The two Atlas FP7's are still running. They've now have five hours on them since the disc brake caliper lube was put in. The unit that was giving me a problem is no longer a problem. It's now running as good as the other unit though the gears still hum a little. I'd have to say it's performance level has doubled and the shell hardly gets warm now. The motor used to get so hot you could cook bacon and eggs on it.

I was thinking about mowing my parents yard today but I thing I'll hold off until tomorrow. There's a fair chance of rain today and Murphy's law would dictate that a concentrated cloudburst will gather right above me and cut loose. The chance for rain tomorrow is minimal so I'll do it then.

I still have some cleanup work to do on the layout. I can see a lot more of the layout now.

Morning all from SunnyCal:

Well, yesterday was 103 here in the Valley, worst air quality I've experienced yet this year, so it was DEFINITELY an 'indoor' day.  No Father's Day celebrations, Son Tom lives in Vancouver, and that's about 600 miles to the north, so we just wished each other a great day by phone.   He's decided that he's too old to be called "Tommy" anymore, so in order not to get us confused by the rest of the relatives, he's going to go by "Thomas" instead.  Hey, fine by me, LOL!

Wanted to work on the MR, but it was  way too hot in the garage, so I did a 'kitchen table' project on my little PFM Rio Grande 4-6-0.  It's a little cutie, but it's geared like a racehorse--only brass loco I have that has a direct motor/shaft/worm/gear combination like one of the old Mantua or Penn Line steamers.  And those gear teeth are BIG--makes the little girl race around the layout like a slot-car if I'm not careful.  And replacing the open-frame motor with a lower-torque can is out of the question because of the worm PERMANENTLY attached to the motor shaft.  So I decided to replace the open-frame motor magnet with some of the Rare Earth types I've been using on my older articulateds, just to see if it would slow the little girl down a little.  It did, very nicely, but I got the magnets installed in the wrong polarity and she ran happily in reverse until it dawned on me.   Straightened everything out.  She's now got much better slow-speed control.  Of course I had help from Spooky and Uff-Dah.  At least Spooky didn't try and take off with the locomotive superstructure (she doesn't like the taste of painted brass).

I take Chester back to the vets in a couple of weeks to have him re-tested for FIV and see if the first test was a 'false' positive.  Sure hope it was, I'd really like to introduce him to the general kitty population and let him have the run of the house (well, as much as Spooky will allow, LOL).  Right now, there are two places in the computer room he hangs out, one of them being my lap.  I've been reading up on FIV in cats, and it only seems to be passed from cat to cat by direct saliva to blood transmission (ie: biting).  And since Chester is a 'carrier', rather than actually INFECTED with the disease, I'm hoping that everything will iron itself out.

Darren:  I hope they can get that fire contained--I'd heard that it might be weeks before containment.  What a horrible disaster.

Rob:  My prayers for your older brother.

Well, the temperature has dropped about 10 degrees so far, today, a nice cool Delta breeze, and a predicted high of just 88 or so.  Maybe I can get into the garage today--MAYBE--Stick out tongue   One thing about the weather around here, if you don't like it, just wait about five minutes, LOL!

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Tom

Well, I am not sure, but I think it is to verify that I am to be brought along to a next dentist appt. so I get work done too. I hope.

I can't have a prayer candle burning in this little cracker box I'm in but I do have a LED flickering flame that works quite nicely for the purpose. Angel for all who need them.

We have storms moving in from the south and it's looking nasty outside. I told my father this morning that we'd be having storms today. He waved it off and said it never gets bad below 50%. Problem is it's not a 40% chance anymore. It's gone up to 60% and I'm now seeing rain and hearing lots of thunder. I may have to shut down in a little while.

Stay safe Jeff, Like I was saying the other day do storms bother you at all? I assume no seeing as you been through hurricanes before.  The weather here is hot and sultry so you never know when one might pop up here.

I've survived hurricanes, floods, tornadoes and other natural disasters so no, a thunderstorm doesn't bother me much. I chased tornadoes for close to ten years and have seen firsthand the devastation they can bring about. I've seen oil field blowouts that would curl your hair. One near here shattered windows for miles around and sent a D8 bulldozer and other heavy equipment rolling like dice. A fire like that creates it's own weather system and local weather goes nuts as a result. So do storms bother me? Not much. Do they scare me? Only a fool isn't scared and I'm no fool.

Afternoon guys

Work went okay, kinda slow at first but picked up a bit around lunch. After that went to an appointment.

Ken, It's not all bad with those F3s, it's just the DRGW F9s would have simplified things. That being I could strip and repaint them and they'd be accurate. The same guy who wants those ATSF F9s would probably be intrested in the UP F3s too, and I'm pretty sure he has a full ABBA set of undecorated stewart F7s which I might be able to barter from him. So if could work out, but if he doesn't want them I could always sell them on the bay or trade on some other forums to get what I want. If you sent them out already, did you get a tracking number?

Joe, Happy belated Bday to you.

Rob, My thoughts go out to your older brother.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
