 Morning Folks.

 Flo, Coffee pleases.

Rough night last nigh and I have no idea why. Finally feel asleep around 2:30 AM. Had a pretty good Lightning storm last night, guess the grass will start growing again.

Well Sue made me breakfast so I got to go eat. Happy Father's Day.

Afternoon Tea ..June 2012
Posted by galaxy on Sunday, June 17, 2012 11:32 AM

Afternoon time for lunch and tea.

I have attacked a mountain of laundry. Haven't done it in a while so...

I have attacked the dishes. I really should do them all after dinner but my back is not up for standing there doing them all so some get left. I get some done, but we also add to them as the night progresses and we want snacks!

MOH is over to the inlaws telling MIL about Munchie. It will be a sad ocassion. MOH needed to shop for a coffee maker first, and I opted not to go. I do all the other shopping, so I am "shopped out". SO for now we have tea...

Cuddles is still his aloofful self.

HAppy Father's day again to those who are... and to those who,  like me, who are only fathers to foster, step or to "furry children".

Wanted a whole passel of kids when I was a budding teen, but by age 20 decided NOT. I am personally glad the only "children" I have had are the furry variety. Not everyone wants to be a parent, and I am one. I often DO get some jealousy when others talk about kids or grandkids {I could have those now}, but am happy I didn't have to raise kids. MOH says "no need to bring a child into htis corrupt  and messy world" I don't know if I agree with that reasoning for NOT having kids. I decided long ago that if I didn't have kids by age 40, I'd never have kids....and I passed 40 some time ago. I dind't wnat to be 60-65 and deciding how to get teh kid thorugh college!!!

beautious day out there though hot. Inside withthe A/c is where i need to be.

I hope MOH found a coffee maker. Is picky about coffee..me I am happy to have a cup whne I want it, adn don't even object to instant, but MOH says yes to instant ONLY when the power is out and we have the camp stove to heat water on and no way to grind coffee beans!

Well, Off I go to the laundry again.

later

Jeff: How do you remember all that detail stuff on loco type differences?

I just read up on it and the info is trapped forever. I have what some call a photographic memory. Or at least it was. My memory isn't as good as it used to be which in ways is a good thing. There are things in my past that I don't want to remember but I never had a choice as it was all retained with crystal clarity. Due to an accident within the last ten years I can't remember past events that well anymore though I can still recall information with about seventy percent accuracy which is still better than most. Many details on locos that I study can still be recalled with good clarity but I keep files on it as well which as time progresses are becoming more important. Much of my time the past few weeks has been spent typing up all this info and storing it away on SD cards and CDR's. So that's the way I remember such things.

Closing in on 10 pm and I shall be calling it a day soon. Petra is watching the soccer match, Germany playing Denmark. I am not much of a soccer fan, so I am running the evening local on my layout instead.

Happy father's day

Work was kind of busy. Everyone was running around because we were 2 people short all day. My father wants to grill steaks for dinner today, but I though we'd be eating out to to it also being his 24th anniversery.

I tried to take a nap when I got home, but Delilah keeps jumping up on the couch and licking or rolling on my face. I think she's a cat in a dogs body because she's sleeping on the couch now that I got up.

IDK if I'll work on trains today. I'm really tired for some reason.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Evening, everyone!

This afternoon, I got a call from my job, expecting the worst: my boss asking me to come in and work on my day off. Turns out that it wasn't nearly that bad. It was my coworkers calling to wish me a happy birthday! Fortunately, my boss wasn't mad that I took off today only because I didn't feel like working Laugh

Oh, and cake for everyone, on me! Dinner

I'll catch up on posts later.

Happy Father's Day!!!

 Afternoon Folks

Flo, wake up, I want a Beer My Dear.

Well, today still not go as hoped but I have got a few things done.

Called Mon and Dad and had a pleasant chat. Dad lost his big toe 30 years ago. His foot was ran over my a 10,000 pound crane. In the long run he did suffer any ill effect from his lose.

Infected Toe Front Again while it looks nasty it is looking better yet today. Open sore is all most closed! Yes My main worry is I am down to 2 of the pills I am taking. Should have been a 10 day supply, that should have lasted me till Tuesday? So either I took to many (I know I did one day) or I got shorted?

Father's Day Presents Sharyon got me 3 pairs of Diabetic Socks and I am glad to get them! Pretty sad comment if you think about it. She all so got me a new Track Phone with a Camera! ( A track phone is where you buy minutes and time and not have a contract ) She all so got me some razor's, not sure where that idea came from? Hum, maybe she's been taking with Dave?

Cleaning Up The Desk / Work Bench. Boy it had turned into a rats nest! I had junk stacked up so high I could not see the on button for the Preamp! Found a bunch of stuff from Train Project's I have forgot about. There are 3 Athearn's motors marked as good so they have been tested buried under the mound of junk.

Anyone need some C Liners? Found a small stock pile of PK 1000's engines at K-10. I put 3 PRR C Liners on hold thinking Curt might need them. Well he all ready has some so if anyone would like them let me know! They are $49.99 each plus a modest Cuda Ken handling and packing fee. Whistling

Vince's You are getting PK 1000's F3 UP shells. While I was buying your Stewart's I stumbled across the PK 1 stock pile!  He had 12 sets of powered PK F 3's so I bought a set. If you want some new PK 1000's let me know. They did not have your road name or I would have snagged them. These are the older PK 1's so they have to be hardwired.

Time to finishes cleaning the desk! Dulled Belch! Laugh

Went to KFC today with my parents. Three all-u-can-eat buffets, three senior discounts, take home snacks for the dogs.

The noisy FP7 isn't so noisy now. After I returned from KFC I made sure to get the bottle of disc brake caliper lube out of my van. It's plastic safe as it's made for use on rubber seals and plastic rings. I used it on the plastic parts of the vans wiper transmission rods last year and they're doing great. So I popped the truck side frames off and put a little on three of the gears in each of the trucks then put the side frames back on. They pop on and off similar to the ones on Bachmann locos. I've had the loco running for about twenty minutes now and while it still hums a bit it's a lot quieter and it isn't running as hot as it was. The shell still gets warm but not hot like it was.

Good afternoon, er-uh, let's make THAT good evening!

Darndest thing happened here a little bit ago. RERUN took the Loving Wife's bug to Tipton (Iowa, not Indiana) and bought me a bacon cheeseburger, bacon-cheddar fries and a chocolate malt. Allegedly for Father's Day. I'm not sure how the fuzzy little guy pulled THAT off...Confused I'm gonna try to save him a bite of the burger, as a token of appreciation. I'm sure he got his two plain cheeseburgers, but ya know, him thinking to do this...deserves a little something extra.

I've been in recovery mode all day from shooting a fire dept. waterball fight yesterday afternoon over in Ely. We cover Ely through the Solon paper, and it was preferable to a freak show going through Iowa City yesterday.... Anyhow, three hours in the hot sun later, I had the all-important "trophy shot" of three gals representing Solon in the ladies' fights, and the one Ely guy who survived (for 4th place) in mens' competition. Two of the three ladies are the Solon Fire Chief's daughters. 'Ol Chief Smith sure does know how to grow 'em! Stick out tongueWinkSmile

Anyhow, I've been recovering from yesterday's heat and humidity, taking it easy and more or less hiding in my air-conditioned office.

Cedar cRapids will be "foamer central" this week as the National Railway Historical Society is in-town. A special excursion train from Chicago to CR supposedly went through this afternoon, I never heard it. UP 1995 (CNW heritage unit) leading some weird-looking Amtrak thing and a bunch of restored, vintage passenger cars. The Millwaukee Road observation car "Cedar Rapids" appropriately enough on the rear. I would've gone the two-three blocks to see it, maybe shoot a pic or two, but too danged hot/humid. 20 years ago, I'da camped-out all day to see it. A guy in the Ames Railfans group on Yahoo got video as it was pulling out of Chicago. Thomas Quinby is his name, here's what he saw: http://www. youtube.com/watch?v=3J-28alvDOs. Another gent posted a link to an article with lots of neat photos THAT the Cedar cRapids Gazette did in honor of the week of rail-related festivities. Gazette photog Cliff Jette got to ride along with the Iowa Northern on a Waterloo to Cedar cRapids run. He gets all the neat stuff.... The most I can hope for from this, is maybe being assigned to shoot a run from CR to Iowa City down the CRANDIC line through North Liberty sometime Friday morning. Bill Kuba, longtime CR train buff narrates a slide show of vintage pics. He keeps talking about "Burlington" trains in it, which kinda loses me...unless the Burlington and the Rock Island had some agreement...trackage rights maybe? The Rock Island in CR was chartered as the Burlington, Cedar Rapids and Northern, maybe THAT's where the Rock/Burlington connection is from? Don't know.

Here's the Gazette page: http://thegazette.com/2012/06/17/iowas-past-future-converge-with-railroads/

Gotta go thank RERUN for his thoughtfullness, so a Happy Father's Day to the Dad's in here; and best wishes continue for all in need regardless of the need.

Chris

Evening guys

Dinner went well. I had 2 steaks with 2 RBFs as a chaser. I was napping until it was time to eat.

Been on the evil auction site again. There were some nicely done BN cabooses on the bay. But the bidding went way too high on them, especially considering they were Athearn WV cabooses instead of the atlas ones (athearn's are too short). Probably for the best as I have 4 cabooses (3 ex-Q NE12s, and a SSW WV caboose) I still have yet to paint, and I just bagged 2 intermountain 60' boxcars for 20 bucks for the pair.

Here's some more progress shots of the GP5 from last night:

I still have some final sanding on the nose, and a very small bit on the cab. I'll be using my spot putty (very fine and can be spread unlike the squadron stuff) for the final bits.

Ken, I'd still be getting the DRGW F9 shells then, right? Is the UP unit an F3A or F3B? I ask because my road didn't have very many F3s. There was 1 F3B, and an F7 that was stuck in an F3's body (which I'm already making a model of). I still might be able to swap the UP shell to a friend (models a combination of the ATSF, SP, and UP) if I can't use it.

Chris, Sounds like rerun is quire the dog. Would the fireman's daugthers be about my age? (22) Laugh

Evenin',

Hiya BILL.

VINCENT: THAT GP-5 nose is looking goodThumbs Up A smidge more putty and I think you'll have her knocked-out. Refresh my memory, THAT's a Proto 2000 geep right? I just picked one up cheap off of the evil auction site, they claim they already replaced the gears so I've got THAT goin' for me.

As for the Chief's lovely ladies, the one in the black helmet is apparently 30 (I didn't realize she was THAT old), her sister is probably in her 20s. But alas, the older one has a daughter and a husband (no ring though...). I'm not sure what the status is of the younger one, but I doubt she's headed for Florida anytime soon. Both will be doing womens' waterfights, more formally called "Water Application Drills" at the Iowa Firefighters' Association Convention in September...

Ken, Seem to be liking the music, but IDK what a Triplex running light has to do with ball room blitz.... As for the package, it's the ATSF F9AB, the UP F3AB, and a dummy stewart chassis; right? I was really hoping I'd get those DRGW units, but I suppose a UP F3AB would be tradeable to the friend.

Chris, The GP5 is indeed a P2K, although it's pieced together from 2 locos. I used the nose I did because I could cut the damaged portion out. As far as the axle gear, if it does break, the gear from an athearn unit will work.

Well I put the brake caliper lube stuff in the gear boxes of both FP7's and they've been running just over two hours. The older unit still runs flawlessly and quiet. The newer unit, the one I've been having problems with is running much better but the gears still hum a little. The motor is running much cooler. Hey, I think I've found my new lube for loco gears. This stuff is expensive, like $12 a bottle but with the little bit required for a loco that eight ounce bottle will last for years.

Evenin' Everyone!

I see ken's got the music cranked up a mite......

Janie, just a cup of decaf for me right now.

Chris, those, ah, young ladies would appear to be able to, ah....  Put out a fire very quickly, I think.......  Makes me wish i was about 40 years younger.....  I bet there some times you must really enjoy your w*rk.....! WinkWink    WinkWink

Had a great Father's day today out at the museum.  It was Railroad Day and they had done some good advertising.  Today we were packed!  I would say between 400 and 500 people rode the line.  They brought out old LV #211 to do the honors today.  First time she has been out for a days w*rk in a couple of years.  she was purring right along and that EMD 567B was sounding good!  I was in the Erie Caboose #254 for the day.  had a good time, I did!  My son is a chip off the old block as he insisted on doing what he likes best today and went fishing......  Took his two daughters down to Seneca Lake and spent all morning fishing.  The little one caught the first fish, followed by Livy a few minutes later.

Talked to both son's this evening via telephone for a bit.  So it was a good day all around.

I am now ready to just relax for a while.....

Later!

Tipton Bill, excuse my ignorance, but what was that in those glasses? Tongue Tied

Jeff:

I made sure to get the bottle of disc brake caliper lube out of my van. It's plastic safe as it's made for use on rubber seals and plastic rings. I used it on the plastic parts of the vans wiper transmission rods last year and they're doing great. So I popped the truck side frames off and put a little on three of the gears in each of the trucks then put the side frames back on.
...I'm wondering if that would may be quite down my two identically noisy Atlas N GP15s. Thanks for the tip.

Fathers day lunch turned out to be a BBQ on the restaurant's deck. I had chicken, Kris the regular hamburger. There were steamed mussels in a wine sauce, and salads. Since it was their 3rd birthday, there was also cake - but we went for the blueberry bread pudding with whipped cream - which was to die for!

Finished nearly all of the construction phase of the 1:700 Destroyer this evening. Just have to apply an aerial to the masthead, make a flagstaff and form the white ensign decal. Then it's the G 95 on the hull both sides, and we're done!(except cutting wood for a base, pouring a plaster sea around a thin sheet of plaster the same shape as the hull at  the waterline which will be black. The plaster pour will be wavy, and painted for the ocean. Then I've to cut and finish perspex for the case. The base block will have to be thick enough to take a screw up from beneath the shelf the model will sit on in the museum. Don't want THIS puppy to walk!

Looking for those .gifs has turned up my stash of ones. They weren't on my computer when I went looking for them today, but were saved on Photobucket Yeah

This is what you want to look for: Permatex Uitra Disk Brake Caliper Lube, synthetic lubricant, item #24110
