Afternoon All,

Back from Wally World. I like going early because you usually don't stand in long checkout lines. Not the case today. They only had 2 registers openGrumpy. It took longer in line than the grocery shopping part did.

When I weathered theTT pit I forgot the bridge so I did that today.

There is a Thunderstorm coming in so talk to you later.

Ulrich, so you live trackside? I live 30 miles from the nearest tracks

Vincent - how does 50 yards sound to you?

Took the router to Wal-Mart and turned it in for a refund. Used the money to fill a hole in the cupboard. Now the grocery supply looks a bit better.

More thunderstorms rumbling to the north-east and south-west. Looks like we're about to get slammed again.

Afternoon guys.

My father and I went and tried to get my car to idle right. We were partially succesful; it only idles with the A/C off. Normal idle is about 650 rpms, but when it was at 1100 and the AC flipped on it dropped to 600. It's weird that it looses 500 rpms by turning the A/C on. He says exhaust leak, and the computer program shows lean on the passenger side and rich on the drivers side. Luckily I have tomorrow off to monkey with the header and H-pipe...

I did work on the trains a little bit. I shimmed the nose up on the GP5 and it looks to be at the right height now. I just need to add some filler to the joints and sand it smooth. As of now the GP5 looks kind of like one of jeff's units. It's black with a grey cab, but it has a gray long hood. Weird the early P2Ks were molded in black plastic and the later ones in grey. At least they stipped easily, unlike those stewarts. Still wish I had that gun brush, since it worked really well, but my brother or father took it back for it's original purpose.

My mother is being weirder than normal today (yes, flo, I know to respect my mother, I'm just saying). She doesn't want to eat out on her birthday, even though the tax place called last night and said she had a $6500 refund. If I was her, I'd celebrate the extra money, and the birthday at once. Unless of course she doesn't like the thing about turning 47...

Ulrich, 50 feet sounds better than 30 miles

Jeff, looking at the eastern most part of the radar it looks like that system in florida will just miss me.

Good Evening Diners

A sunny , but very windy day here in Windypeg.

I haven't been in much lately as gardening has been in full swing. Last night we didn't finish up until after 9 p.m. but most of the flowers are now planted. Despite a very early spring, we are late getting everything in as it has been very wet here.

Last weekend we were in Thief River Falls visiting our friends and I picked up that Intermountain FP7 I ordered in April. I am still amazed that I got it for $98 from Kleins including QSI sound. It is in CP maroon and gray livery with really nice detail. I think it might have been some new/old stock as they only had one of each for a few different roads. All were gone within a day or so.

I have a question for those of you south of the border. I was discussing the amount of paid vacation time offered by companies with our friends in TRF who told us the typical time in the US was 2 weeks, maybe 3 at most. Here the normal is 3 weeks after 5 years, 4 after 10 and 5 after 20. I get 6 weeks as I have been at the same place for over 25 years. What is typical for a medium sized company in the US or in the government? Just curious.

Well have to take Robbie to the vets in a few minutes for his annual check.

Hope everyone is doing well, especially Barry.

Evening All,

Had chicken for supper. Flo can I get a cup of Decaf please.

CNCharlie- Where I work we get 40 hours for years1-5. After 5 years we get 80 hours and after 15 years we get 120 hours. We can also do time trades with co-workers not on our shift any time we want.

I see the surgeon tomorrow morning to hopefully get cleared to go back to work. I have been out 3 weeks now, and since I have not had a good time I am ready to go back. If I get cleared I have to see the Dept doc Sunday on duty and I am supposed to give blood and get a chest x-ray for my annual physical. My blood work should be interesting since in the last 2 weeks I have had Dilaudid, Morphine, Percocet, and Versed. The good stuffSmile

Everyone take care  and prayers for those in need.

Vincent: I'm running a loco this evening that I think is one of your old veterans, an SD24 which became my SD27J. It got beat up when my display rack broke a while back and the frames bent a little but it still runs like a bat out of - well you know. it's being led around by a Bachmann GP38-2 that just can keep up with it, and that was after cutting the SD's speed down some.

Thunderstorms earlier today were a bit more severe than yesterdays but still tame compared to some I've seen. Some thunder, lightning, wind and rain but we're still here. Borrowed my mother's car for the trip to Wal-Mart earlier so I got to have some fun with a quick little sports car. A V6 is too big for a G6. And I went by a gas station and had it filled up so she wouldn't have to do it.

Evening guys

Well we convinced my mother to go out on her 49th birthday (I though she was 47).

In the meantime I tried using some #80 drills I had bought to drill the holes for the details in some of the stewart Fs. I got 50 for about 12 bucks, but wound up breaking close to 30 of them on just 2 units. These ones are carbide, and I'm thinking they are meant to be used with a drill press. They break very easily, and tend to do it when trying to pull out. I might try my home-made drill (VCR can motor with a double-ended pin vise for using drills; but from now on I'm buying steel bits as they bend instead of break.

Jeff, yup, that's one of the ones you got from me, along with the U30C-thingy.

Exactly why I avoid carbide bits like the plague. I've been using the regular steel bits for years. The so-called 'hardened' bits break if you look at them sideways.

Evening Modelers...

FIRE NEWS:  The monster is now over 52,000 acres and at least 118 structures lost.  The crews were able to get a 15-20% containment but the fire crowned over the top of HWY 14 and the Poudre River so tonight the evacuation of 80 more homes had to be order  as the fire tonight is racing up a gulch towards the Glacier View Meadows neighborhood..  This is on the northern front.  There are now 1,300 Fire Fights on the lines.

 Evening Folks!

 Flo, Beer Pleases.

Shaddy says Woof Woof In fact she is saying that a lot. Her barking when I come home all-wise puts a Big Smile on my faces. Seems the money I spent at the Vet was a good investment. If you like a Wolfhound barking at you that is! Smile, Wink & Grin

Work / Foot Front Feet fared much better today, after 9 hours I was still walking normal. Over all work was pretty much uneventful. Well, did have one guy get mad at me when I told him his tires mileage was voided due to him having bad front end parts.

Infected Toe Front I am off Friday and guessing I will spend most of the day at the VA Clinic trying to get my benefits reinstated. Toe still looks nasty and a little red, but way better than how it looked Saturday. I am looking forward to having the massive callus cut off the left side of it. By it self the callus is around 33% of the sizes of the toe!

 See you all later.

Galaxy Front? Galaxy did we happen to make you mad?

OK Fellow Dinners, I just checked to see who was on line on 06-15 at 12:11 Central. Seems Galaxy is on the site?

So we either made him mad, or he really has nothing to say. If he has nothing to say, I can understand that. I think I was out of the dinner for around 7 days a few months ago. But I still dropped in. When I saw folks asking about where I was, I started chatting again.

So he is alive and computer is still working! Just hope he drop's by and says Hi.

Good Morning - June 2012
Posted by galaxy on Friday, June 15, 2012 12:54 AM

GOOD MORNING!!!

Today is Friday, June 15th, 2012!!!

Enjoy your day!!!

It is I.

Yes, It is I, Galaxy.

It has been over a half a month since I last posted.

I dropped in about twice as a lurker but that is about all.

I took a break from the forums for several reasons. One reason was I grew tired of Bil trying to beat-out or sabatoge my posts. I, {at least} got called on the carpert for that. There is no reason why more than one person can not "greet the day" and "greet the forum" in the ealry morning hours. But apparently Not as far as he is concerned. A long time ago someone asked if I would put the date in there for those who wanted to know what the date was...especially in regards to approaching WPF postings. So I complied...it was  a public asking here in the diner so anyone could have seen it, but only I complied with that request, and so have kept it up. But I grew tired of that game he plays on me. I wish he would leave me well enough alone. There is room for all of us on in the diner without trodding on other's postings.

In the same vein, I read that there apparently was some forum ky-boshing and hootin' hollerin' and whirly gig goings-on. I missed it and didn't see it in the diner, so I assumed the other parts of the forum. I have not bothered to read any of those other threads. So, I don't know what they are talking about...the diner seemed "tame" to me. Maybe I missed somehting? at least I wasn't involved or called on the carpet for that!!

I also got tired of the same old posting of my daily routine and chores and which ones I got done. SInce I am limited mobility at times quite severe, I get done what I get done, but posting about the same old same old was boring to me, and I am sure to you who actually read my posts.

SInce I have taken down my regular layout to tracks only to be pulled up and taken {originally to expand it}, I just have to get into the room, I really don't feel like trains at the moment. At leat Ulrich stilll has his he can run..I could run but would need to clean track again and no fun on plywood prairie of foam. So I grew bored with that {not having one}.

We also have a small 42" x 42" {or is itr 44" by 44"???} under table top tree layout aht is collecting some stuff {mostly papers on top it so I can't find it either. MOH is the "ruler" of THAT kindom, but is hoping I will complete the work on it i think. Need to find a few trains under the papers too! SO I am bored with that {waiting for MOH to decide what to do besides say "it's a winter scene".

Although i am the Prayer Candle guy, All it takes is a candle with prayer said for the party/parties/general populace to complete the job. Just DOn't leave the candle burning unattended, or if you go off somewhere!!! Others can say prayers too. I don;t have a handle on that job either.

I have been to steamtown many many times, but any pics I have are about he same as RAY is posting. I just dont know where that disc is right now. I can find Strasburg RR adn RR Museum of PA, but NOT steamtown. We may visit there soon if MOH ever has a day off when they are running steam!

WE are hoping to go to Connecticut to the steam train/steam boat ride and dinner train for our anniversary. Depends on how many hours my Other half gets between now and then! {JUly w/o 16th-22nd}. One can also pay to operate a train, but we will save that for another time. {besides we havet o do that early in the day when I am fresh and in relatively little pain and before real serious need for my cane to stand/walk is needed... I may have to pass on it all together}. WHere the money will come form,l don't know. Here is the link to where we are trying to go to:

Essex Steam Train - Your Hand on the Throttle

We Kinda need special thoughts and prayers ourselves. MOH came with a 5 year old and a 2 year old cats. The 5 y/o is now 17 and is in kidney failure. SHe always was a skinny little runt, but she recently started loosing weight {hard to tell on her skinny-ness} and I noticed she was at the food dish every hour 2 weeks ago eating like pig. SHe also was getting bold at taking food from u s off our plates, so to speak [she likes when we have chicken, turkey, fish, tuna fish or baloney/hot dogs as we tend to share with her and they are her favorites}. MOH scolded her often for that, but in reality she was starving we just didn't know it. SO now, she is there at the vets awaiting more blood work after IVs and subcutaneous Fluids given and high protein diet ffood. today {friday} will determine if she can come home and have another comfy 5-6 months wiht subcutaneous injections and high protein dietr, or if we should put her to sleep. MOH doesn't handle death well, and this is a killer. MOH wanted her to just die peacefully in her sleep, not be put to sleep. We asked if we were too late when we discovered it and if we should have known before 2 weeks ago, and were told no, that it was more an aging thing, she was just getting old- at 17 that makes sense. I have been able to enjoy her for 12 years myself-thats a long time too... I must be storng for MOH. I can be, though I miss her around hte houose already and our 14 y/o male cat knows somehting is up. We brought out the cat carriers adn hte 17 year old "went away" so he is leery of us an stays out of reach. We tried to get him to take him to vet too as he is behind on his shots. Both are/have been house cats ONLY all their lives.

-> we also had a body found just down the street. Apparently a 19 y/o has been arrested in the death of a 16 y/o. The body was found inthe wee hours of the morning yesterday. No news was available until late last night/over night. Let us say prayers for the victim and for the one who caused her death...

Here is the news report from YNN Your News Now at Ynn.com:

VESTAL, N.Y. -- Vestal Police have arrested a man they say is responsible for a suspicious death on Thursday.

Police were called to Westland Road around 4:30 a.m. Thursday after receiving calls about an unresponsive female.

Officials arrested Steven Lipka, 19, for the murder of Shelby Jenkins, 16. Police say the two did know each other and had a relationship.

Lipka has been charged with murder in the second degree and is being held at the Broome County Jail pending further action.

Anyone with information in regards to the case is asked to call the Vestal Police Detective Division at (607) 754-2477.

Well. I have bored you to tears enough I think. Thaks ot all those who were  wondering/concerened/worried abut me. I didn't get the two conversations I had as I wasn't looking for them and not often on the site either. I may only post infrequently now anyway.

HAve a great day, Maybe I will stop in later.

*YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWN*

Good morning... Janie? Flo? Whoever...a shot of night medicine please and thank-you. Long day on Thursday, almost wrapped-up enough to call Thursday done, get some shut-eye and officially start Friday in...a few hours.

GALAXY: Very much glad you're still with us, pessimist I be, I was trying to write your obit figuring you'd checked out on us permanently. Sorry to hear about the cat, Loving Wife lost one about eight years ago...it was rough. I really don't know what else to tell you on THAT, it's amazing the effect those fur-covered bags of bones can have on us.

CURT: Thanks!  I've actually been chipping away at the RR room for about 7 years: painting, new lights, bits of framework here and there. This is just one more step, but it's a big one. Lowe's sliced the 4x8's to the 30" I need for ease of transport and lack of sawing capabilities here at home. I've got some pics, trying to find one THAT doesn't suck. I don't really have a wide-enough angle lens to capture what I want to show. We'll see what we can do yet this weekend on THAT front.

BARRY: THAT "conveyor" is actually two pipelines. One took oat hulls from Quaker Oats to Iowa Electric Light and Power Company's (now Alliant Energy) 6th St. Power Station. IE blended the hulls with coal apparently, or otherwise burned them to make 'lectricity. The other pipe is a steam line from the power station to Quaker. The historic flood of 2008 doomed the power plant. It is to be torn down in the near future. A steam line from it along Cedar Lake (and the CNW North Yard) put up in the early 1990s is abandoned and will also be coming down with it. I 'spose this "landmark" will too since it's abandoned. Pics of the area from the 1940s show it, so the area will really lose something when it's scrapped.

JIM: Thanks, and yup yup, flats will be about the only way to really do much of anything with the Quaker Oats complex. I've got some ideas. Since drawing them out hasn't done me much good...I think it's time to hack up some cardboard and try mock-ups of various dreams and schemes. I can then draw from THAT any detailed plans I'll need...or just w**k from the templates, tape lines, etc.

BRASS BRASS BRASS BRASS BRASS BRASS BRASS BRASS BRASS BRASS BRASS BRASS

TODD: You're right Big Hoss, I'm not gonna argue with you about what's right or not when it comes to these plastic and metal trains we play with. Never have, never will. Oh, and you'll have to talk to Rerun about the bag 'o burgers... He might let you have one, next time we get a bag, to take to Missy since he's kinda sweet on her and all.

ULRICH: Thanks! I don't know, 40-something, 50-something, 30-something... not sure if biological age makes any real difference anymore. Some days I feel like I'm 43 going on 13, other days I'd swear I'm 43 going on 70. Then again, I've met some 70-somethings THAT could kick my patootiee and probably not break much of a sweat.

VINCENT: Prime, detail and prime again? Interesting. Since the crazy glue is (hopefully) going in the holes, and most likely being applied from the un-painted side, I don't think there would be a problem with parts not sticking due to the paint. If something has to be glued onto a painted surface, I think it's been long-recommended to scrape off the paint where the glue has to go so you get plastic to plastic or plastic to metal, etc., etc., etc. rather than whatever to paint.

My hang-up is getting glue on the paint and mucking it up.  I've read articles where guys have done pretty much all of the painting and then put in the grab irons and what-not, especially if they're a different color from the body. Makes sense, and whatever works for them is cool by me. Likewise, however you do your F's or THAT GP-5, if it works for you...as the classic rock song did say: "Rock on with your bad self!" The Good Lord knows I sure don't have any hard and fast rules for how I do stuff. I've tried to do a better job of scribbling-out a one page "technical notes" on stuff I want to build multiples of, like the GP-15s or ex-Rock Island plug door boxcars, so I know what parts I used, what paint I slapped on it, THAT sort of thing.

#80 drill bits...Bang Head I got some sold by BLMA, those w**ked pretty well, lasting a lot longer than whatever it was I had been getting through Walthers. I've managed to bust the dozen or so bits I had, most on my GP-50 rebuild. Seems I forgot Uncle Irv put a steel weight in under the dynamic brake part, so while trying to drill for lift rings, I'd hit THAT...and snap! For some reason, I'm suddenly having issues drilling out the end grabs. I thought going back to blue box Athearn, after battling the Walthers GP15 shells, would be easy peezy lemon squeezy.....

Nope.

Bedtime.

Since I missed Flag Day (and the birthday of the United States Army) I'll tack this up belatedly:

Here's a shot of the aforementioned 6th St. Power Station:

and a 1970s postcard of the overall downtown Cedar Rapids area showing how Quaker Oats, Cargill soybean plant, the power station and the various rail yards (clockwise from upper left: Rock Island, ICG, Milwaukee Road) fit. The CNW came through on the bridge next to Quaker and curved around the plant heading south toward a spot called Otis.:

Finally, the CNW track chart for 1988 of the area in and around Quaker:

Have a good, SAFE Friday everybody,

Chris

Huh, I was too tired to write a Tiffin City Council meeting article, or the captions and game summary from Thursday night's high school baseball game I covered...but I was able to ramble on this much? Oy..........

Vincent

Regarding the breaking of drill bits, there was a suggestion on the forums recently to chuck the bit so that only enough projects from the chuck to get through your material. In other words, if you are drilling through .030 stock then the bit should project barely more than .030 from the chuck. That goes against everything I was taught about how to use drill bits but I tried it and it seems to work. I guess it eliminates the chance for the bit to flex, and having the bit flex is what leads to breakage.

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Good Morning Gang!

Good to see that Galaxy is safe & sound!

June seems to be one of those months, sigh! At the end of the money, there is an awful lot of month left. Planned to buy  a few supplies need to continue on those two modules, but have to postpone that. I am not taking big money, just 10 $ worth, but I don´t have that. August is going to be much worse - car taxes are due that month, and the car will have to see the bi-annual technical approval inspection. That´ll be $ 300 for both, which we simply don´t have. Still no news on the job front, other than a number of those letters "Thank you for your application, but ..."

My eyes are hurting from trying to see that silver lining on the horizon.

Have a good one!

It is Now Official.

It was on the News.

The suspicious death  3 blocks from my home has been upgraded.

It is now a homicide, cause of death determined to be asphixiation by strangulation.

The suspect remains in custody.

Let us pray for the victim.

Good Morning!!!

Sunny, with a high near 91. Really only one chance of rain for a week and that’s Sunday with a 40%. We could use some. Wonder if Jeff would mind if I sat down his way with a couple buckets.

Gotta fix my Chainsaw. Brenda called yesterday morn and asked if I’d bring the chainsaw up to the elevator so’s the guys could get this tree away from the shed so the bin painters can paint it. Called back about 3 and said to come up the thing is making a strange noise. Yup. Broke. Actually just the starter pawl I guess you’d call it. Probably a 50 cent piece that'll cost $10 cause it says Stihl. Anyway, not surprised really. I kid you not guys and dolls, everytime she asks if someone can borrow something of mine, it either comes back broken, or damaged. Everytime. If they ask me, it rarely happens, but if she does…..EV-ry COT-ton PICKIN Time. I won’t even mention the panic that goes through me when she says she’s gonna use the truck to haul something on times when I’m not available. It ranges from the sunvisor clip broken which I don't even use those and can't really figure out why she did when it was at night Tongue Tied to "um...the trucks making a funny noise." I won’t tell you about the last time. Too painfulSigh. Usually this involves me having to repair or replace the item as I grumble because the word I get was they’d like to know how long it will take because they weren’t though and want to borrow it again once it’s fixed or replaced.Super Angry You belive that??!! (I'll do it again twice) Super Angry Super Angry At least if the chainsaw was due to something othern normal wear, which it appears so far it wasn't, the elevator would take it to Big R and have it fixed on their account. They still have another tree to trim up.....I wonder Hmm

Jeff- I have a router, I won’t say the brand name because I don’t want to unfairly give a good or bad name to Linksys, but the things program always says unable to find router and wants to diagnosis the system for which it finds the router is not connected when the blame thing works fine with both of the hard wired computers, and the wireless stuff. (Her laptop, her printer, the TV and the iphones). And ya, from time to time I have to unplug it andplug it back in. Not often though anymore. It kinda goes in spurts.

GALAXY!!! Thank goodness you’re ok. You know with all the health issues you have it kinda makes one worry when you drop out like that. I understand your issues with what you have to say. I often feel that way sometimes about my own lack of MRR talk. BUT as you can tell by this postWhistling, I just keep on truckin til someone says shut up. We ain’t said shut up to you yet and I doubt if we ever will. Just glad you’re as well as can be expected. Sorry about the cat. I know a lifelong pet isn’t just a pet. It’s part of the family and can hit almost as hard.

Ok,here comes that horse….unfortunately I’m tall enough it makes him not too high for me. (inhales deeply) I’m all for a well rounded education. And, though I’m a staunch readin, rightin, rithmatic, or as my Mother always called it, “the three R’s”, person, I think the arts are important as well. History too of course, but not this hang up with dates. THAT to me was the downfall of my grades. I was all interested in the history of these here United States. You know Lewis and Clark, Pilgrims coming over on the Mayberry ( so famous a town was named after it), Pocohontas (always have been a sucker for black haired girls in pigtailsStick out tongue), Civil War, Revolutionary War, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Boston Tea Party. All that was interesting. It was the onslaught of needing to know the exact year, month and day it happened that turned me off. Never could understand why that was so important. Not that they shouldn’t say, but is it really THAT impotant what day we made tea in Boston Harbor? Or knowing why we did it without sugar. I know all about my Constitution and it’s amendments, or used to, but is it reeeeally THAT important that I know the number of the Amendment that gives me the right to wear women’s clothing and cut down trees and the date it was added, or just know that I have the right of free speech, what that means AND that Presidents can only serve two drinks again since the prohibition ended. Personally I think get rid of the emphasis on the specific dates and focus on the knowledge and more kids would know a lot more. Well except like the 4th of July and The War of 1812. But then again, they have the dates in the name. Now that's thinking ahead. Just my two cents. I think sports are important as well, but it seems the school puts too much emphasis on that as well. My gosh the way they treat sports is insane. Academics is second to this sports push. I tell you what, there’s way more chance for most kids to go on and be successful and never touch a ball cept in gym class than there is 10 kids getting a scholarship let alone a pro career in sports…Indifferent… Sorry. Stepping down.

How’d all that get started?

Gonna do some laundry first thing. Then I’ll find out what I’m to do when Brenda rises. Ooops, there she is.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Good morning and a happy Friday, particularly for those for whom Friday still means the end of the work week.

Galaxy, welcome back.  We worry.  I think it's the nature of the Diner's customers to do that.  We're here to connect about more than just trains, so we're glad you're back with us.

CN Charlie, I can't leave a question unanswered.  I work for a typical big company.  We start with 3 weeks, and work up to 5 after 15 years.  However, we do not get sick time, so if we need a day off to deal with a cold or something more exciting like a colonoscopy, we have to use vacation time.  Of course, that means a lot of people come to work with colds, because they don't want to burn a vacation day.  In case anyone's wondering, there are provisions for "short term disability" which will cover you if you have an extended illness requiring 6 or more consecutive work days off, or if you have periodic treatments like chemo.

Jeff, I've got a Netgear wireless router.  I bought it to replace a Zyxel router, an off-brand that had a software bug and required recycling power on every computer every month or so.  The Netgear works flawlessly for us - two wired desktops, now two laptops, and a wireless printer.  I also had a wired printer on it before this one.  I call my home network choochooman.  I've got my home wireless password-protected, and so do most of my neighbors, but there's still one neighbor out there who leaves his wide open, even in this day and age with all the threats around.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Good morning, Chloe.  I will have a large black coffee.

Galaxy,  Glad to have you back.  It is so quiet when you aren't here.  At least we know that you are lurking.  Some days I have to admit that all I feel like is lurking.  I had a cat in her late 20's.  She was a scrapper that wouldn't let anyone hold her.  When she needed care, I had to do the handling.  I spent a week climbing in Yosemite.  Upon return, she was seriously dehydrated and near kidney failure.  I made 3 trips a day for 2 weeks to the vet to hold her while fluids were administered.  We nursed her back to health. Two days after returning home, a neighbor dog pounced on her and broke her back.  She was gone in minutes.  It was a sad day.  I hope you cats live long lives.

MrB,  Glad to see you hanging out here.

Galaxy: It's great to see you again. Sorry to hear of the cats health woes. Usually when they get to that stage the end isn't far off.

Good morning. It's 72° and mostly. The high will be 90°. There's a fair chance of showers and thunderstorms.

No plans for today except to stay cool and dry and do some more cleanup work on the layout. Tools need to be put away and project debris sorted into what to keep and what to toss out.

Morning guys

Well today my plans are to check the passenger side header-to-head and header-to-H-pipe bolts to see if I can get the possible exhaust leak ironed out. Mabe after that start getting my father's  car ready to pull the engine out. I'm geting the block and pistons out of it, which are an upgrade ofver the stock ones.

If I work on the trains, it'd be filling in the nose on the GP5 and some other body filler. I'm thinking I should finish that first since all I'd really need to buy on it are coupler cut levers and air hoses. I have lift rings and MU hoses. All that's left to do aside from installing all the detail parts is to cut the skirts down.

Galaxy, good to see you back in here. Sorry to hear about the cat's health issues.

Dave, I've heard that one before too, but it doesn't work with these bits because they are attached to a 1/8th inch shaft. However I noticed most break near the shaft, sio I may be able to use just the end pieces as bits.

Chris, So you like the BLMA bits? The ones I have are carbide, and apparently that's a bad idea. I've generally had good luck with the bits I get off of ebay, but the last group didn't have points. I found a set of hardened tool steel ones on amazon and I think those ones ought to be pretty durable.

Ken, check PMs

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

More Morning Coffee - June 2012

Good morning, Chloe.  I will have a large black coffee.

Galaxy,  Glad to have you back.  It is so quiet when you aren't here.  At least we know that you are lurking.  Some days I have to admit that all I feel like is lurking.

Sue

Yes, Bill a refill of morning coffee.

Sue, I wasn't  lurking.. I only did a time or two. I just didn't want anything to do with the forum, the diner or other threads or anything either that involved this site, even if I had the most bestest answer to a problem of all!

We will find out later today if we can keep her hydrated and comfy or put her to sleep. Only MOH will have to make that decision, as she is really MOH's cat...I can only *suggest*. I personally see no reason to keep a pet alive just so a human can avoid the decision to put ot sleep or just so a human can "have" the pet longer- even though the pet is uncomfortable or in agony.

In our case she is dehydrated as you mention and is starving too [hence te aggressivness at getting food}, and the vet thinks nauseus all the time too {hence cacking up nothing at times in dry heaves}. MOH doesn't want to have to make that decision. Was hoping the cat would pass peacefully in sleep.

Well, we will know more later.

I will post more later.Maybe.

Angel for those in need a special prayer candle is lit for our cat and a special one for the murdered girl down the block, and a special one  for others who need it.
