Italian roast coffee in a SOGGY & SOUTHERN mug, please.

***Ulrich, your friend does some superb work.

***Darren, that fire looks like a monster. Hope they start making progress on slowing the beast down. YIKES!

***Jeffrey, sorry to hear about the young rabble keeping you up. That is about as inconsiderate on their part as it gets. BTW, that is some scene with the convict swinging the pickax. Looks like a job for a large crew, or maybe one of your track-hoes with a chisel-thingie on the end of it.

***Tom, sounds like you actually know what you are doing there.Thumbs Up

Have a great day all.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Just got back from lunch and the air has the smell and taste of fire and I'm a good 75+ miles from this beast so that might give folks an idea how much this thing is blowing.  Hard to believe from the fire map I posted earlier and this one how much it has spread in a day.  They say now over 100 structures have been damaged and 400+ Fire Fighters are now the ground along with air support.  They say the fire is expanding at 20-40 feet per minute right now.  There is hope for another 100 fire fighters to join in later today.  My thoughts are out to all those in harms way...  Afternoon Folks

Sigh Not a happy camper right now!

Last week my check was short 11 hours. I reported it to Dave and he called payroll last week. He was trying to get them to credit my pay card. Checked today, no more funds. Called Dave and he told me "Payroll would not credit your pay card, you have to wait till next week". Asked Dave why and he was told "the amount they owe you is not worth setting up the transfer". There words not his. Just great, here I am broke and the amount is to small to for me to miss? Yea, it is only $100.00. Sigh

 See you all later.

Evening guys

I spent this afternoon helping my father clean up another engine block.

I got that 2nd cylindrical hopper converted to athearn trucks, so they both track and roll well. Just need some kadees, metal wheels and some weathering and they'll be good to go. I got a box of cars in the mail today. I got a BN and a UP FGE box (walthers), a DRGW FMC hopper (roundhouse), and a D&H waffle box (MDC). The D&H box was tacked on because it was from the same guy, IDK what a D&H box would be doing way out on the BN.

Flip, Well I mapped from my city to Leesburg and came up with almost 400 miles difference. Winter Garden (Curt) is about another 40 or so:
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-ContextMenu&rlz=1I7ADBR_en&q=Leesburg,+florida&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&biw=1229&bih=809&wrapid=tlif133945485413410&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl

Tom, Good to see you back in here. I think I've been gone almost as long as you have.

Ken, That sucks, but it sounds like you'll get it back on next weeks check. Oh, and the payment for those F9s is on it's way.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

 Evening Fellow Dinners

Flo, beer pleases. No Flo, nothing for the snake. Have not seen him for awhile.

Doctor Visit Well I was PO ed not a Single Train Magazine in the waiting room! Grumpy By the way I am not kidding, Laura and her husband are into trains (All so the Dr for Ken owner of K-10).

She looked at my toe and said "Ken make sure drink plenty of Beer and stay off your feet Tuesday and run your train layout a lot"! Big Smile

OK, I wish. She told me diabetic for some reasons get these kind of sores. Reason there is a hole in the bottom of the toe is because Bactria (hope I spelled that right) has eaten away the flesh but at this point it really is not that bad. (hum, sounds bad to me) The med's I am on will not heal the infection but should hold it at bay.  Reason I need to see a Surgeon is not to cut the toe off (at this point) but to remove dead tissue so the toe can heal.

She check the pules (spell check again) and said I have good blood flow in both feet. Standing and sitting is bad for blood flow in the feet but walking is good. Asked her about riding a bike and she said that would be a real good idea. So I guess I will be inflating the tires and oiling the chain up on the mountain bike. Also soaking my feet in dulled belch will help.

Need to get in touch with the local VA Hospital. Noway I can afford a Surgeon with no health insurances. I guess so so care is better than no care. If you research John Cochran VA Hospital you will understand why I am not in a hurry to go there. I think they are batting 50 / 50, good if you play baseball, not so good if you are a Hospital.

Vince's Glad to hear the check is on the way I will start packing stuff up.

Well time to follow Doctors orders, Flo another beer and fire up the DB 150 power supply!

T White, this one is for you, a Big Brass One! Yes

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf, please.

Had a nice post written and I thought sent earlier and it must be still out floating on one of those clouds they have these days....  never got here!

The biggest thing I was going to share was this video...

Here is a video of the first start-up of one of our antique Locomotives this last Tuesday.  She is the queen of our fleet and has worked during her lifetime for the PRR, the PennCentral, Lehigh Valley, Conrail, Rochester & Southern RR, and is now with us at the R&GV RR.  She has survived two times on the scrap line, three retirements from service, and two bankruptcies.

She started life as an Alco RS3, but was made over into an Mongrel RS3m when Conrail put an EMD 567B Prime mover in her back in 1979.  She also has dynamic brakes and a steam generator so she could be used in back up service for passenger trains. They were nicknamed DeWitt Geeps.  I believe there were 9 units configured this way.  She may be the only survivor. I know Jeffrey will like this...  It is a real life Frankenloco!

Enjoy!  And turn your speakers up! (grin)  (Having heard her 567B in real life is one major reason I just can't get into toy sound...)

Just to contrast here is an Alco that is still an Alco.......  This is Eastman Kodak #9.  She is started up several times a year, but seldom sees service out on the line.  This was her first start up in 2011.

I believe she still has her original prime mover in her.

Evening, Chloe - no critters or slitherees in here, are there? Good! Then I'll have a nice strip sirloin, medium, with a baked potato (and sour cream and butter on that), nice garden salad with a side plate of some asparagus, and a glass of your best Finger Lakes wine, please 'n' thank you. Dinner

Ray, and Ulrich, I don't think I saw all the schtuff out in the main forum, but from what everyone's been saying, it might take two of those rotary plows to wade through it. Surprise Then a good washdown of the plows with some disinfectant would likely be in order...Whistling Maybe some dynamite might help with the 'cleanup'?

Ulrich, on your catenaries (not to be confused with those felines who like the yellow birds...) you might get a very believeable setup with a fourth to a third less often on the wires (and save you from some of the eye strain, if yours is like mine about closeup stuff). Start out, and every so often, ask Petra (I'm guessing she hasn't seen as much of the Japanese railways as you have) if it looks like you have enough (But do not show her the photographs...). Best wishes on it, and remember that Mr. Murphy does visit when we solder, too! Oops

And I will second Rob's comment - your friend does some good stuff! I could see the two figures on the bench in that one photo, being him and his wife, all tuckered out from all the effort that he/they have put into the layout. [whew!]

Todd, on your plane crash 'survivor' theory, I wouldn't be surprised if someone (not too smart) did that and then tried to get a lawyer to file a sillysuit against the airline, the airplane manufacturer, and everybody else they could think of. But then again, we see enough foolishness like that as it is. Outside at 4:30-oh-my-gosh-it's-early in the morning? Missy have to go do the job in the yard?

Lee, isn't that company/the weight scale the one that MR featured in their Virginian layout articles? Sounds like it, anyway.

Darren, keep yourself (and your wife) safe out there! One Diner missing is too many - we don't want you to be missing, also. Surprise Shame to see so many beautiful trees & scenery going up in flames.

BridgeTom! Good to see you back in the Diner again! And good to see some of your big steamers - How're your 'little' kitties? Want to hire them out to Ken to hunt down a snake? I bet Uff-Dah (Viking warrior that he thinks he is...) would like to take after it, eh?

And Jeff, I like Ray's suggestion about what you could do with your noisy neighbors (less likely to get you a ticket, perhaps). Thumbs Up

Ken, that's (let's see, what word can I use that won't get ***'ed out?) NOT good about the pay shortage. I wonder how the person in payroll would feel if their paycheck was short 'only' $100.00? Probably wouldn't see 'not worth the while' then, I'd bet! Grumpy Do take care of yourself, and stay off of that foot with the bum toe. AngelAngel

We got a bunch of rain about mid-day today - so much for the 'isolated showers' they were talking about this morning! Will see what the night news says our total rain amounted to, when I get home. Off w**k today, but had to go in to finish up paperw**k on one that came in around half-hour before the building closed on Friday (and was to come in to be seen by the daytime folks today). Then over to the library to use their WiFi (fastest in town) and to listen to the rain come down for part of that time. Nope, that listening wasn't on the schedule. Wink

Got in some scenery stuff at the post office. They ran a little longer than I'd expected, and the online-HS owner kicked in some more W-S scenery stuff (but it was the pine trees with the plastic trunks, unfortunately - oh, well, can use them for background trees). No trips to Wal-Mart, so I can't vouch for out weirdies being there or not...

Tonight I've been having a lot of trouble with the WiFi here - getting redirected to OpenDNS when I try to go to my CU's online banking page (and am told that it now is a 'phishing site'??), the WiFi support number guy tells me that to get the blacklist of my CU's site takes someone above his paygrade, and now when I tried to follow Ray's link to the loco, I get sent to Bing, which tells me there is no such page -???! Bang HeadBang Head I will try the WiFi at my laundromat on my (roundabout) way home, since I did NOT have trouble like this over at the library earlier in the day. Guess my weirdies are running the WiFi at Panera's...

Still no word from Galaxy. Hmmm.... Prayers for healing, comfort, a good night's sleep (without noisy neighbors), and for more missing Diners to return to these parts. AngelAngel

Think I will head on my way home now.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

This is about how I feel today:

Good morning.  Another nice day here in New England.  This much pleasant weather strung together for several days is almost unheard of here, so I'm enjoying it while it lasts.

Ken, it's up to you to populate that doctor's office with train magazines.  I like to save my MRs and MRCs, but I pick up the Walthers monthly flyers at my LHS, and when they expire I sometimes leave them at dcotors' offices.  It's my version of guerilla warfare against People Magazine and old Newsweeks from the Truman administration.

A few years back, there was a large forest fire up near Montreal.  I live outside of Boston, MA, about 250 miles away, but we could smell the smoke when the wind was right.

Good Morning All,

The Marines have landed; downtown is filled with one of everything the Marines own on display so you can crawl around it, wear it, or hold it.  There is a FATS machine set up so you can fire anything under 60mm at a target screen.  I might walk down to the park and see the SP Howitzers.  The small 155mm gun they brought has more computing power than everything in my house combined and can toss a small 9 pound projectile 2 miles and have it land within 5 feet of the intended target.

Jim: yes it’s the same one

Darren, where are you on that map?

Dennis, I feel your pains.  After my Aunt passed away we had to rent out her house and after 5 years the tenants moved out.  They painted the lower and upper halls avocado green and the breakfast nook burnt orange and destroyed the new carpeting and linoleum floors.  Before they moved in my cousin and I put (all my cousins money and my free labor) $30,000.00 in improvements and it seems we have to drop another $7,000 to get it rented again.  It’s a great house in a good blue collar neighborhood but we can’t sell it, the will requires the estate to maintain and rent out the house until the youngest grand child is 25.  I can’t help out with removing all the junk furniture they left behind due to temporary medical condition I can’t lift over 25 pounds.  So now my cousin has to hire some guys to help with the repairs.

 Morning Folks!

Flo, Diet Dew for me pleases.

Not sure on how I feel yet today. Sort of feel good and yet a little yucky at the same time.

Took apart the 2-10-2 last night that came from the Sundown Shop's to lube it up so it would stop squeaking. Well, it stop squeaking! It all so stopped moving as well! Bang HeadAll I did was pull off the bottom cover off and lubed the drive wheels and center gear? Engine now free wheels like a dummy. Sure it will be something simple.

Infected toe is bothering me just a little today, feel pressure when I walk from the toe nail.

 See you all later.

Good Morning!!!

I’ll have the same thing I had yesterday please. Thanks.

Rain yesterday wasn’t worth much but it rained a bit.

TOM! Er….Bridge Tom!!! Glad you stopped back in. Missed ya. Glad you’re doin better. Nice video by the way.

Ulrich- Thanks for sharing your friends layout. Me likey.Yes

I’m kinda afraid to ask Ken what “dulled belch “ isHmm. I’ve got an idea, but I don’t see how you could soak your feet in it.Ick!

Jim- Laugh No, I meant the train yard. Wander around the forum. Something I don’t do that often since I haven’t been in the trainrroom for a good long while other than to pile something there.Sigh

Rental properties. Hate em. Mom had three at one time. She eventually sold them off over a couple years but each time the repairs and cleaning offset any income she would make. Or at least make you say “why don’t you just sell them” She eventually did and I’m so glad she did before she passed or I’d a had to do it. Sounds selfish, but true.

Welp, best get the new outdoor furniture out of the truck before I go in for first shift at w**k today.  Don’t ask how THAT happened. New patio furniture that is. If you are or ever have been married….., you knowGrumpy. If you haven’t….I’ll let you find out on your own.

I wonder if that loco Tom’s working on is……..brass.Surprise Did I say that out loud?Mischief

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Morning All,

Sitting here drinking a coffee before heading out to do errands. Sleep was so so last night. I just don't get it. Six months ago I slept  like a log every night, now that is the exception.Sigh. I may get my ears lowered today in preparation to going back to work Sunday.

Jeff- Sorry you are feeling bad, and hope that improves sooner rather than later.

Ken- Sorry your big toe continues  to hurt you and hope that starts to improve.

I love technology. I wanted to print out my next week work schedule but the  printer says there is jammed paper. I see no jammed paper. I tried unplugging it but it continues to have that errorBang Head.

Good Afternoon!

Wet, wet, wet - it is all wet outside (and inside my car ...) Spent an hour to fix it, but now it stays dry - just a blocked pipe, so water could not flow away.

Folks, no one commented on the model of the U-Boat above the lighthouse. It is a fully functional model which can dive up to two meters deep and has working torpedos - without the explosives, though. The beast is 6 ft. long and looks like a Swiss watch inside. My friend is really gifted... Some years ago, we took it to a pond and chased the ducks, that was fun Mischief

This is a nothing to do day, so I will fire up my layout and run a couple trains!

Have a good one!

Ken: If I remember correctly there's a small adjusting screw either on the bottom or top of the loco that adjusts the tension on the drive gear. tightening it should get it running again.

Good Morning Modelers!

It's 58F and clear heading up to the low 80's.

FIRE NEWS:  Sadly this thing is still growing; now over 41,000 acres and sadly 1 death is now reported - Linda Steadman, 62, died in the blaze / She lived at 9123 Old Flowers Road.  I have not seen the updated map get posted yet but I have heard from folks at CSU say they can see the flames now from within Ft. Collins itself now so it's closing in on the western edge of the city.  I believe this is now officially the the 3rd largest fire in Colorado history...

Here is a different map from yesterday that shows how close it is getting to Ft. Collins now

Ulrich, I noticed that U-boat.  I didn't know that it was a fully functional one, though.  Back when I was a teenager, I had a model hydropane I used to run at the "boat basin" at the park.  It was really an absurd toy, powered by one of those .049 gas engines with about a 5-inch propeller.  It was the kind of thing nobody would think of manufacturing today - way too dangerous.  Anyway, I was running this thing, which had a plastic hull, and it hit the stone wall and bounced off, careening across the pond.  It had split the hull, and started taking on water.  To my astonishment, a submarine surfaced, hooked the now stalled hydroplane with its tether, and towed it back to shore.

Those were the days, ah, yes, those were the days.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Darren, where are you on that map?

Thankfully Lisa and I live about 70 miles south of this fire but it is so intense the smoke is covering most of the state and into WY, KS, NB, OK, and TX.  Depending on wind direction the smoke from NM big fire is also pushing up to us.  So, one minute you might have blue skies and see the mountains and the next it's all gone in a smoky haze...

Good morning. It's 79° and thunder is rumbling. The high will be 92°. There's a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms, some of which may be severe.

The wind is coming up, trees are bowing over and debris is hitting my little trailer. I can hear the thunder getting closer. Not a drop of rain yet. All indications point to this being sleeping weather. I'm not feeling well today so I may get some sleep in later. Thunder is getting closer. Time to go.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of the Organic Pumpkin seed Flax Granola with a pile of fresh blueberries on top this morning and a few cups of dark roast coffee to wake me up.

Darren, that is quite a bonfire you folks have going out there!  Stay safe!  My prayers go out to all the people who are in harms way with the monster.  What you folks need is some Finger Lakes weather to help put it out.

Currently 67°F outside and raining.  We have gotten .8" of liquid sunshine over the last 24 hours (and it was sunny yesterday) with another half inch forecast for today.  A very nice day to do some yard work (on the layout, that is).

Todd..... ROFLMAO!  I saw the typo myself, but was trying to be nice.....  Ken's typos do add, ah, interest here at the forum don't they....  Ken, don't worry, we still like having you around, my friend!  I was after all, almost double certified in Music and English way back when... so I tend to see those things.  If music positions got eliminated I wanted to be able to be a "real" teacher (as some airheads I worked with used to call it).  I have actually gone back and corrected some of my posts a day or so later after looking at some of my bad typing.

Speaking of Ken...  Praying for your toe to heal up and that you get feeling better very soon!

Ulrich, I didn't see a GE U25B in your posting???  Huh?  Oh......  THAT kind of UBoat........ Ah yes, there it is!

If it is too hot for you, maybe there is some ice left in the Ice House in Tobyhanna?  It is quite close by to where the Steamtown excursions go.

Later!

Howdy ...

Quick stop. Coffee to go please.

Storms late yesterday afternoon cut our power for 10 hours. It re-arranged our deck furniture.

Big causality was the big tree that had the bald eagle perch. The bald eagles sat there. I posted a photo of one here a few months ago. No more photos of that tree. This picture was taken a few months ago.

Darren.... I'd love to send some rain to Ft Collins to put out the fire.

Everybody there are some great photos being posted.

Ulrich ... Your friend has a nice layout and I like the model tug boat.

Flip ... thanks for trying to contact Galaxy. Hope he returns soon.

We are leaving in a few minutes for Nashville where I have medical appointments.
