 Evening Folks!

 Flo, Beer Pleases! Beer

V A Front. Well I am in the system! I think that is good new's? Whistling Seems my first appointment is July 9th, that is for blood work only. I will see a Doctor July 16th. But, no med's till I see a Doctor? My first round of Antibiotic ran out, so I bought the second round today, 10 day supply at $273.00. So I will be out by the 28th! Bang Head Where my tin snipes, time to cut that sucker off!

Speaking of Quack's! OK, we have mice, we have snake's and frog's. Guess what we have now? A Duck in the backyard! Shaddy the Wolfhound saw it and took off like a bolt of lighting and my wife all most had a stroke. Luckily it got away and hided behind the storage shed where Shaddy could not get to it. Well I think? Now all I need is a phone call from the wife at work telling me Shaddy jumped in the pool after the Duck! Bang Head Just what I need, a duck and a wolfhound in the back yard, what's next? Deer!

Rob Best wishes for your brother and keep us up dated.

  Ken

Evening, Chloe - I'll have the roast beef special, side salad with oil & vinegar dressing, asparagus, peach half, and a  Rio Grande  mug, please. Thank you!

Todd, the Ponderosa restaurant that we had closed about the same way - no advance warning at all. Wow Of course, it had been a while since I'd been there for Dinner, so maybe that had something to do with it, do ya think? Oh, and what do you take for those (sudden-onset) headaches like you got? Smile, Wink & Grin

Ray, with your 'sound board' that you used to teach your kids rhythms, what if you'd have had a kid with really quick (think bongo) hands, who could hit in 1/32nd notes?...Whistling

Jeff, looks like the L&A is keeping busy and shipping the freight lately! Thumbs Up

Barry, I don't if it really has, but seems like with all the other things (including HD listies...) it's been a little while since you spent some quality time with the MRR stuff, eh? Good to hear you remember your way back there. Yeah Sorry to hear about you having to have two more treatments (hope that after the first one, they find that the second one isn't needed after all...). As for that music sticking in your head:... "Mah Na' Mah Na'...Whistling"

Lee, on your friend building the 4X8 layout for the grandson, did you see the Virginian RR layout they are running in MR lately? Coal, couple of mines, a weighing scale and yard. Maybe that could fit his needs.

Ulrich, congratulations to Petra on her own 'puter (and to both of you for the ease of being able to go look up something - or just browse away - without wondering if the other is in the middle of something)! And (belated) Happy Father's Day to you (you and Petra must've done well if Christian thought of that gift idea on his own), too!

DerJohn - that destroyer you built looks great! (But hey, you are used to w**king in those tiNy scales, right?)Wink Great job, I'd say. Thumbs Up

NS Joe, good to have your birthday off from w**k. Yeah Glad it was for a good reason that you got called from w**k.

Ken, KEN, KEN!!!! Headphones (He takes off the headphones and turns down the amp...) Careful there on the music volume, or you'll be needing those hearing helpers, too! Oops Guess you were having some fun on Sunday, eh? A duck, huh? Is Rob sending you his spare critters? Maybe the duck will decide that it isn't worth trying to get past Miss Shaddy to get in a swim. Hey, you can hope! Good to hear that you have an appointment with the VA doc, at least. Yeah

And Chris is watching those young ladies hosing it down - was that like a wet T-shirt contest (so to speak...)? (Hope Kris had a good tight hand on his leash..)Whistling Looks like you've done well with Rerun, if ya have him fetching you such a Father's Day bite to eat. Thumbs Up Good to see you have the gears in your head goin' for the layout - as for 'just yard', you realize you have to have somewhere for those cars to go get filled or emptied, as the case may be, right? Smile, Wink & Grin

Vincent, I'll agree with Chris, it's looking like you about have that GP-5 ready for painting & decals. Bow Good body w**k there!

Hey, Mr. Beasley's fire department has their fun in the wintertime! Cooool...! Thumbs Up

Hmm, seem to be a lot of clanging noises coming from in here lately. Wonder what's up with that?...

It is good to hear all the various Diners who are getting back to their train rooms/layouts/plans. (Hmmm,... except that means I might have to do likewise, or else I won't have any photos to show my progress on my layout...)Hmm

Jeremy, you could highlight all the skills you used/developed in each job, plus, highlight that you have stuck with your employers (and aren't one who just leaves a week after you start w**k). Not as many people nowadays stay with jobs for long - really quick to jump ship if things aren't as they want things. You can offer more depth of experience, instead of a lot of jumping around. Yeah (So [ditto] what Mr. Beasley wrote...)

Rob, sorry to hear about your brother going into the hospital. AngelAngel for the entire family (as Ray said).

Darren - awesome eggstravaganza there at the 'Fest! Whistling Would've been astounding if that included a ride on one of those Geese - did it? Stay safe, with that fire STILL going.

Not much on the MRR front for me today. Had to go in to w**k and get my paperw**k from Thursday and Friday caught up. Tonight I'm on-call again, and then off until next Monday (YAAYYY!!). Hoping to get over to Garry's on Friday and visit with him and another MRR friend who he said is coming then. Will take some pics of Garry's layout and all the neat new stuff he's done (for some inspiration for moi...).

Today I did get in a small order of some detail sets (metal castings) for office, depot, warehouse and a mine. They should look good (once trimmed up, painted and such). I'm thinking that I will take the extra wood I have leaned up in my apartment to the storage unit, except for enough for one add-on section (in hopes of being able to do some switching, once I get the wiring in and connected up).

Hot here today, also - about 93 or 94 F today, but we did have some fairly strong breezes blowing around, which helped it not feel as bad. S'posed to be in the 90's until about Thursday, I think.

Well (as was said, the frogs have gone north to find another well with real water in it instead of dust), about time for me to head on home (until the pager/phone says otherwise). Prayers for those in need of healing, comfort, or a good rain to help out the firefighters in the West. Keep the wheels on the track and a'turning. Thumbs Up

Blessings,

Jim in Cape G.

 Flo, beer pleases.

Started to hard wire the decoder in the new PK1000 F3. But I could not find my 1000 ohm resistor's for the LED.

Curt do you have my 1000 ohm resistor's? I know Jeffery does not have them, he doesn't do LED's.

Being the Wild And Crazy Guy that I am, I turned around my NYC F3's and running them around the B line backwards! A thrill every minute here at Cuda Ken's house! Talk about wasting 4 days off in a row!

Back to the grind stone Tuesday.

How can you say that? I put a golden glow LED in one of FP7's today. I use LED's rated for 12v or lower voltage LED's with the resistor built in. I don't get them from any one place, just pick them up here and there.

I just don't use LED's as a matter of course, just for special projects and if I have one laying around. I don't like messing around with resistors and the like.

Time for me to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf for me please.

Ken and Jeff...  Will you two make up your mind! WhistlingLaugh

Been a more or less productive day here...  Got the wash done, went grocery shopping so I would have some food in the house for supper...., Set up a time for the folks from the Solar Company to come and get the final plans made for the installation, and drove up the street to check and see how much the road crew got done today.  If I am correct, they will be repaving the street right in front of my house at exactly the time the guys from the Solar Company should be showing up on Wednesday and will probably be blocking the street completely when I need to pull the trailer out with sound equipment for the Strawberry Festival at church right after they leave!

I'm still waiting to hear from the guy at Homabed to find out where exactly my order is I placed almost 3 moths ago!  Can't do anything more on the track for the layout until I get some roadbed...  Since cork is no longer being made, the only choice is Homasote I think.  I did start the roof rafters for the water tank on the roof of the powerhouse today.  THAT goes slowly as I wait for the glue to dry....

Time to turn in for the day (into what, I don't know).  Prayers for all in need!

Nope. If I make up my mind too many people would be happy. I like it in the mess it's in.

Jeremy

Without wishing to offend, my first impression of your job history is that you are apologizing for being a steady, stable, promotable employee! Two jobs says "dedicated employee"! "different positions" means adaptable and flexible! Steadily employed since you were 15 years old says "reliable" and "good work ethic"!

You have a ton of material to work with if you put it in the right terms!

I used to have a job where I helped others to write their resumes and do application letters etc. That was a long time ago and what worked then mostly doesn't apply now. However there is one suggestion that still applies - get professional help with your resume! If you are a normal person you are inclined to not promote your skills and experience in the most effective way. That is because we are usually too polite for our own good. Another person can help you objectively identify your strong points and the things that make you attractive to an employer.

The first place I suggest you start is on the internet. Here is one time when the internet is definitely your friend. There is a lot of good free advice to be had if you haven't already looked there.

If you can't work on your own with the internet advice then perhaps investing a few dollars in a professional resume writer is worth considering. Yes, it costs money, but if you look at it as an investment in your future the returns are pretty good. Say you spend $300 on a resume consultation (I have no clue as to what they actually cost nowadays) and you get a job paying $30,000 per year. Pardon my limited math skills but that looks like a 10,000% return in one year. Granted, nothing is guaranteed.

Good luck!

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

Good Morning Y´all!

After yesterday´s BP issues, I am feeling a little better today. Must have been the weather, but I will have to see a doc about it. Maybe I need to change my BP medication.

Janie. a mug of coffee, please.

We are without water at the moment. The water was cut the moment Petra started to do her hair, you know, all that coloring stuff ladies use. When she wanted to rinse it off - poof, no water. The words she used would make a sailer blush Embarrassed I had to race to the supermarket to buy bottled water, but could not help chuckling.

Got this for it: Black Eye

Spend a lot of time on the ´puter to get some input for detailing my little Kato tank engine. I found a few pictures I can use as food for thought:

Hard to believe that this is N scale! The picture is slightly larger than the actual model.

Lunchtime is coming up, but without water we will have to settle with pizza!

Have a good one!

P.S. Joe - I missed your birthday - a very belated Happy B-Day to you!

Good Morning!!!

Coffee and a piece of Rhubarb PIE please. Thanks.

Sunny, with a high near 93. Breezy, with a south southwest wind between 13 and 21 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Well that’s a couple degrees cooler than they said it would be, and that wind will help take some of the heat away. Or at least feel like it.

Jeremy- Yes a long time at a job is a good thing. It shows loyalty and the ability and willingness to stay with a company through the long haul. It also shows that you must have been a good employee for them to have kept you. I would somehow  weasel that into your resume. Say something about how you feel loyal to your employer or, maybe not. How about you are looking for a long time career and aren’t interested in jumping from job to job. Something like that. Clean it up a bit. Also you can show your willingness to learn all aspects and do anything for the good of the company AND further your knowledge by taking these  other positions. Something like that. Just ideas, you’ll have to clean them up. Oh and check out Dave’s first sentence. He’s right. Come across as proud to have stayed with one company. Not as some detriment or reason for lack of something. Remember you are writing something that someone will read and you will not be there for them to question you through the first round of cuts. Their first impression they get based on your wording is what is gonna make or break it for you. Make sure it always sounds positive towards you.

Rob- Prayers for your brother.

I’m with Jeff. Well, not literally. When it comes to storms I’m not really thrilled, but they don’t really bother me. No, they bother me too I guess. Gotta shut down and un plug everything that can go “pop!”.Power goes out sometimes so you have to sweat the sump pump.... course this year it hasn’t kicked off once. Often wonder what ever happened to those gentle summer thunderstorms we used to have when I was a kid. Now they all seem to be severe.  Wait, I take that back. This year we have had two gentle thunderstorms. I remember mentioning it to Brenda. Not much rain involved though.  Now tornadies, that’s another story. I seen what a 3 does coming through town that had been disrupted after the Church sacrificed itself to save people, so I can only imagine what a more powerful one would do. Scared of Tornadoes, yup. Call me what you will, but I’m headin to the basement.

Jim- What do I take for those sudden headaches? Well usually I take a big dose of shut up. Sometimes a dose of zip it works as well. Sorry honey doesn’t work as well for me as others as it seems to aggravate the problem, but if that’s all I have I’ll give it a try. Like I said, she has no sense of humor unless she says/does it, so why she’s with me I have no clue. I’m as about a sarcastic/ say anything and not mean it to anyone kinda guy as you’ll ever meet. Not as much anymore though. DeadHead hurts too much.

After these few years I take NOTHING Jeff says for granted or definite when it comes to I don’t or I won’t. If he has it laying around and that’s what he thinks will work, even though he may have said I won’t do this or I don’t do that before, that’s what he’ll use to get the job done. The sundown shops are well known for the phrase……“Nyah, let’s give it a shot”

Ulrich- I would have laughed too. But the brightside is, you went out and with the distraction …made it just fine. Maybe Petra needs to put on one of those face cream things next time with no water to take it off. Think of her stuck with that stuff all over her face you could drive around all day and never realize you were out!!!Laugh

WElp, this is my full day of w**k so to speak so I best get a nap in before I get started.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

Good morning, all.  I'm afraid the run of nice weather here in New England is about over, and summer with all its brutal heat is about to arrive.  Yesterday peaked at just about 70, but they're saying it could hit 100 tomorrow.  I sure hope that old AC works.  I pulled it out of the wall because it was clanking up  a storm.  There's a metal shroud around the fan that rusted out at the base, and shifted so it was hitting the fan.  I pulled the shroud off.  The unit's efficiency will suffer, but hopefully it will still cool.  It's in the bedroom, and I only use it at night.  Unfortunately, it's an odd-sized through-the-wall model, and they don't make that size anymore, so replacing it would entail some carpentry.

Ken, we haven't got ducks, but we have turkeys.  We get groups of 5 or 6 wandering through the neighborhood.  They're stupid, annoying birds.  They won't move out of the way when I come in the driveway.  Fortunately, they're the only "gang activity" we have in our town.  We've got deer, too, but they usually run away when people show up.  We love seeing the fox, because he controls the other annoying critters that attack the garden.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Good morning. It's 74° and partly cloudy. There's a small chance of rain this morning increasing a bit in the afternoon. The high will be 88°.

This morning I'll be busy mowing my parents yard. Afterward I'll spend some time cleaning up my work area on the layout. I also have a UP boxcar that's serious need of some weight and a pair of couplers.

Morning Coffee ...June 2012
Posted by galaxy on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 8:32 AM

Good morning

I got a PM conversation asking what "MOH" meant. Although I DO ocassionally spell it out, I thought if others are confused, I'd print it out for all who need to know what "MOH" means.

It is simple: MOH means:  My Other Half. I am not the only one who uses this term to refer to their dear one. Obviously then, YOH means Your Other HAlf, and OH means Other HAlf.

Notice: NEVER is "MBH" ever used. {My Better Half}. I am not sure who the "better Half" is. If both of us use "My Better Half, something in that mathematical equation doesn't compute correctly. We cannot agreee who is "Better".

So, now that that is cleared up for now, other things are on the burner.

I have scheduled a Drs appt for next MOnday, was hoping for this week but he DR is on vacation. How dare he! It is nto urgent, adn the appt Monday is for the afternoon. I had hoped to go earlier with a starving bloodwork in mind so I don't have to return for that. Oh well. Just need to see him for:

Warning: Rant follows!    SoapBox

This is the ONLY possible "political statement" I will make here: It seems that with this trend towards Obamacare and NY State complications, many of my medications are "advanced approval required" before filling even a bloody refill!!! AND many of the heavier-duty pain killers are now in short supply as even Gov. Cuomo is signing legislation making it MORE difficult to get  the narcotic pain killers that many of us with serious pain get. WHY? to "prevent abuse" they say. That is the ONLY possible  "political statement" I will make here.

If they approve a med once, then all the refills on one script {5 refils for 6 months total} should be covered. If they DON'T approve it, you and your Dr are stuck trying to find a lesser quality and lower costing drug to replace to good working stronger meds!

Some of the lesser quality and lower costs scripts WON'T work for me!!! {or others}.

The only "abuse" I make is to take them as needed daily as prescribed and never use all a month's supply in exactly 30 days. I do not take them if not feeling serious pain! They usually last me about 40 days.

Now that the Dr. is on vacation, I will have to s t r e t c h what I got more  till next week!  doing this:  Bang Head would feel better than not having any!

ANd no, ibuprofen, tylenol, aleve, etc DO NOT WORK, or else I'd be taking them! So please do not suggest them.

GRRRR

Rant OverSoapBox

GRRR.

Whew.

Ok.

I know what you mean. When I go to the pharmacy to get refills on my meds one of them that requires 'advance approval' is Avodart of all things. It's used to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia. You think they could find something more dangerous to pick on.

Mornin' folks!

Zoe, is that a Strawberry Rhubarb Pie over on the counter?  It is?  Sue brought in the rhubarb early this morning and the pie is still warm right out of the oven?  I'm in Heaven!  Dark roast coffee and a large slice of the Strawberry Rhubarb Pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

Currently 71°F outside with a predicted high of 89°F this afternoon.  Calling for thunderboomers after lunch time.  I was planning on going out to camp to get some of the trimming done, but I will have to see how the day goes weather wise.

Looks like they will be closing my street for the road work soon.  They dropped off a set of the work barracades on my lawn at the corner.

Jeff, have fun mowing....

Ulrich, Petra using words like THAT???  I can't believe such a nice, well brought up girl would do such a thing...  In front of you, I mean!Laugh

Later!

Morning All,

I go into w**k at 3 PM today so I am sitting  here watching the RFD channel Trains & Locomotives about St. Louis, probably the best one I have seen so far. It's been pretty busy at work but not stupid busy. I think it's supposed to be 89 F today with no rain. I think rain chances go up starting tomorrow.

Joe- Sorry I'm late but I hope you had a great birthdayCake

Rob- Sorry to hear about your brother and I am saying prayers for him.

Barry- Sorry you need more treatments, I will continue prayers for you.

Ken- Sorry I don't have your electrical parts and pieces.Smile, Wink & Grin

Ulrich- I hope you get your BP issues  under control quickly.

Sue- Yummy-Rhubarb. My favorite way to eat it is just cooked  down and  eating it in a bowl. I really like the sweet and tart taste of it.

Galaxy- I hope you get relief from your  pain very soon and I am including you in my prayers.

Everyone take care and prayers for those in need.

 galaxy:

If they approve a med once, then all the refills on one script {5 refils for 6 months total} should be covered. If they DON'T approve it, you and your Dr are stuck trying to find a lesser quality and lower costing drug to replace to good working stronger meds!

I know what you mean. When I go to the pharmacy to get refills on my meds one of them that requires 'advance approval' is Avodart of all things. It's used to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia. You think they could find something more dangerous to pick on.

I haven't had that problem with Avodart YET. Doesn't mean I could, I guess. I think they are looking at the cost of such meds {no I don't know the cost of Avodart, but I think it is up there- I could look it up for you if you'd like} as well as type of med.

I used to have a good muscle relaxer. My legs cramp up at night severely. I also found out the muscle relaxer was benefitting my back problems too. THen they STOPPED covering it! SO my Doctor gave me Flexeril, which is like only $10 for a months supply of 90 tabs for 1 3 tmes a day as needed. It gives me constipation something fierce, and doesn't work nearly as good as the more expensive one that just went to a controlled substance! SO I can't take the flexeril! I can pay for the expensive one at the rate of $53.00/month, and I may have to self pay and just limit my use of them!  Now WHERE will I get the $53???   SoapBox

More and more of my meds are going "pre approval" or turning "controlled substance" which automatically means "pre approval required". Bang Head

I have difference Insurance than you do Jeffrey..I have Medicare and then Medicaid. WHat Medicare doesn't cover, Medicaid is supposed to. NOW, both are balking at paying for anything over $10 a month for a script some are in the hundreds of dollars..

I have another med...for ocassional nausea {which in my case can lead to vomiting}  that WAS covered..now requires "pre authorization". Darn it. It works when I need it. AND I fill it about once in 4 months.

ALmost all my meds are going to "pre-autorization"...even per each refill!!!  That is what burns my rubber tree plant...is they authorized it once..why not for the refills on the whole deal? i can understand for each new script...but for refills?????

Sorry to hear you have emphasema. Will the operation help at all? or is it a stop gap measure?

I quit smoking years ago to avoid that issue, but I am still chronically asthmatic. SO I know difficulties breathing brings.

I will add you to the prayer list for the prayer candle.Angel

Hey guys

Been working on the GP5 some more. I primered the whole thing to find any spots that need work. The sill, long hood, and cab is finished, it's just the nose is giving me some issues. There's a seam along the whole thing where the splice occured, and some spots still need some final filler before being sanded smooth. The most annoying thing to me is that there is a seam along the splice. One can see it, but I can feel it. I've already hit the area with putty and sanded it twice and it's still there... There is a similar seem on the prototype, but it's a bit lower. Maybe I should just leave it.

Jeff, So would you rather have LEDs or bulbs in lighting your locos? I agree the polarity thing does get me and times, and I do have a few that are wired backwards (blue isn't on the common) but I perfer the LEDs to bulbs. I haven't monkeyed with my athearns and their mini-bulbs yet, mostly because the boards drop the voltage too low for LEDs. I just happen to detest soldering...

Guess I'll try my spot putty again after the primer dries. This time I'll wet sand it after roughing it in.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Hello everybody,

Haven't posted here in awhile, but I've been checking in (lurking) everyday. You gotta admit, this is a busy crowd. Our very best wishes to all those having health issues. The wife and I are doing pretty good. She had a cast made last Wednesday of her foot, ankle and lower leg. They will use the casting to make a custom fit brace. The surgeon believes this will be of great help in making the ankle more stable. Right now, a lot of bones are just kind of floating around in there. Then this coming Friday, we have an appointment at the Lymphedema Clinic where they will begin an evaluation to determine the cause of the swelling in her ankle, and the appropriate action to take care of it.

We have been a little busy with trains too. Last Thursday we drove up to railfan at Cresson, Casandra and the Gallitzin Tunnel. It was a beautiful day in the low 70's with a nice breeze and a fair amount of traffic. It's a 2 hour drive each way, but well worth it.

Then we went to our usual spot in Leetsdale this past Sunday morning. Spent about 3 hours, again with a good amount of traffic.

A good week for the little stuff too. I won an auction on E-Bay this past week. It's a Broadway Limited A & B set of Southern E6's in that fancy green and white paint scheme. Has sound and a Mars Light. It doesn't fit into my HO collection, but I like the looks of it. I have been looking for a set at train shows for some time, and the ones that come up as "buy it now" have been just a little too pricey. I spent about an hour running it on my little oval test track to break it in. No problems going forward, but it sure doesn't play nice in reverse.

Took the wife to the hair dressers this morning, then got a couple loads of laundry done. Now that lunch is over, I've got a couple of more loads to do. Don't mind though, the cellar is the coolest place in the house, and it's downright nasty outside with the humidy and temperature today. I'm glad the grass and hedges don't need attention. Everybody have a good one...      Tom
