Nerves - mine are shattered. Spent hours trying to get our printer installed to Petra´s new notebook. That (beep, expletive deleted) computer uses Windows 7, whereas mine still uses Windows XP, which I feel comfortable with. Installing an external hard disk drive to my notebook was just plug & play, so that´s OK. I have mirrored all my data to it - makes me feel a little safer.
Ken - I hope you can stay with us. that your work situation will improve!
Ran a couple of trains down the line, again, just to keep the dust off the tracks

Still on the backup slow puter here in my art studio. Off to pick up a rescue disc my buddy had dropped off for me in town. This afternoon or evening I'll attempt to work on the usual puter to see if it can be restored after the big crash.

Flo, just a nice tall lemonade for the moment...
Just got home from camp... Spent a couple hours trimming the grass/weeds around tents. Finished up the largest site and well over half of another. The ones on the side of camp I am doing now are the hardest as they get a lot of sun. The grass is very tall around the tent platforms and between the tent platforms where the Ranger can't mow. I have gone out right before camp and trimmed now for several years. It cuts down on the skeeters, ticks, and also keeps moisture away from the tent canvas. Looks better too.
I have to shower, change clothes, and get ready to head out to the Museum tonight for our monthly meeting. Tonight the program is riding on trains....... I think I am scheduled for train crew, so I need to get there a bit early.

Well..we got them ol' t'underin'boomers coming through here...trees down, lines down, neighbours garage blown over, tree on top of it....our back deck that we just put in squashed by big ol' poplar tree fell over...just lovely stuff here...oh...and one 3/4 hour monsoon dumped 4 inches of liquid sunshine on us....

Got back from pensacola a few hours ago. The appointment never happened, they called my cell when I was about 10 miles away and said the doctor was sick. I want to know is why did they wait until 30 minutes before the appointment to tell me that, knowing I live an hour away???
I used the trip to go to a hobby shop, and picked up two decoders to free up some others. I stuck them in one of my F45s and my GP38-2. They both had DH123s but now they have TCS decoders. I'm starting to lean away from digitrax's decoders. I also got my (soon to be some other diner's) Walther's Trainline 8-40B running again. The wheels apparently got REALLY dirty despite sitting in the box for a year and a half. I think the wheels might be copper or brass, they are kind of a dirty brown color and a copperish-brass color where it was cleaned. It runs pretty well now, just a slight whine which may be from sitting for a while. I also dug up that bay window wide vision coupla (BWWV?) caboose and applied some filler. Just a reprimer of the modified areas and some touch up and it'll be done.
Ken, I've been using 540 or 840 ohm (I don't recall which) the whole time on my LEDs and they work fine. I use them because that's what they came with. Radio shack should carry 1K ohm resitors though.
Garry, Are those the newer genesis F3s with the soundtraxx decoders, or the older ones with MRC decoders?

Evening All,
We ordered out tonight and had pizza, but I'm feeling it now. Went to the LHS today since I was having a issue getting my Bachmann GE 44T to run smooth. Jon said to bring it up and he would look at. He got it working better but still not right. He decided to remove the DC board and wire the decoder directly and put in 2 bright LED's for about $10. . I will pick it up next week. The more I deal with Jon the more I like him.
He also had a pre built mine that he had taken in trade that wasn't put together very well for a very cheap price that I picked up. I removed the wood coaling tower (have a concrete one on the engine extension) that I didn't need on the layout and put the mine in after weathering it and fixing the ground cover around it, so I now have a way to fill coal cars. I still need to figure something out that goes from the ground to the building, but that's for another day.
Garry- Thanks. The side numbers are actual numbers that the PRR used on their Sharks as verified by the PRR diesel database.
Jeff & Barry- I think the number one issue is trees. It seems to be here during major storms.

Time for me to call it a night. Eyes were better today though still not up to par. Ran some trains today. A trio of GP9's and a trio of F units got good runs as did a pair of FP7's. A pair of GP7's and the GP35 got run. See y'all tomorrow.

Odd Work Front Day. Way the company is running the AD for the Buy One Get One Free it makes for a slow evening shift. Way they are doing the sale You must have the car to the shop between 7:00 AM and no later than Noon on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday, to get the the Special? I pull up at noon and parking lot was packed! I am think "Great going to make some money today"! While I had a fair day at $2300.00 not what I was hoping for. Pretty much peter out after 5:00 PM and last car came in at 6:00 PM. Walked out of the store at 9:00?
Gary I bought mine at the shack. Pack cost me a buck, I will spend more in gas if I don't find the ones I have in gas. But, it not that far.
Vince's I have some 270 and 470 ohm resistors. Reason I like the 1000 ohm resistors is the LED's last a lot longer. But, I bet I run my trains a lot more than you do.

So it rained yesterday just as they predicted. Yeehaw. Got about 4 hundred fifty…..(one, two,... three)… three, 453 drops in about 45 seconds maybe a minute. Pooey. Big drops. Gettin drier-nuh popcorn fart out there.
What’s that Zoe? Oh, I’m sorry. “drier-nuh” is Midwest Slaughter for “drier than a”.
Ulrich- Tell me about the XP to 7 head scratching. This new corn-pooter has Windows 7 and the old one I've had for years had XP. The day to day use is not bad, but sometimes I need to delve a bit farther in and I’m used to XP so where 7 puts things is anybody’s guess. One thing I liked to do was save Youtube videos. Well not all, but some of the old music videos I liked to save. As well as a video or two of Lancelot Link Secret Chimp classic. InXP I just went to Temporary Internet files and drug the thing to the folder where I keep them. Poof. No have to go back to You tube. Now in 7 I’ll be darned if I can find where they are. Not in temporary Internet files I know that. I heard they “image” or Ghost” or “something like that” the Temp Internet files (though I see the file and its files just not any temp files I want) and you can’t get to them for my safety. I say if the computer can find them they have to be there somewhere and I should see them too but....
Welp, today I must cut on the Black Raspberries. Nope ain’t got to em yet. Little other things pop up and I say “oh, I’ll do that. Of course Friday w**k night so I’ll end up knocking off early to get ready for that. I tell you what, this w**k thing really gets in the way.

Good morning. It's 76° and partly cloudy. The high will be 95°.My vision is much better today, We'll see how long that lasts through the day. I currently have an experiment running concerning N Scale cars and 91% alcohol. They soaked for twelve hours then were taken out and set on a paper towel without rinsing. There they'll sit until 8:00 pm undisturbed and we'll see what happens. The victims are a Bachmann caboose, a Life-Like Proto caboose and just for laughs a Micro Machines Trains passenger car. One immediate result is that as soon as the alcohol on the Bachmann car evaporated it started to peel like a sunburned sunbather.I think today I'll run the H24-66 and the U30EM645. They're my two biggest pullers and are near the limit of my 18" radius curves. Other than that and a little layout cleanup work I won't be doing much today unless something unscheduled crops up.

... Oh. OK, I'm awake.... Zoe, just another cup of dark roast coffee please. Had to get out of bed 2 hours early this morning to get to my Granddaughters little graduation thing from Pre-school. It was a cute little ceremony and was a lot of fun!
I am back home much earlier than I thought I would be, so I will be able to get out to camp a bit sooner as well. They are calling for showers and thunderstorms all afternoon, so the sooner I get our there and get some trimming done the better.
Got home from the museum around 10:30 last night. I was car host in the Erie Caboose which is always fun. We have a few members who insist that they don't have to follow the "Stupid" rules for the line and can anything they please..... One of these days one will get seriously hurt and somehow it will be our fault I bet. I figure if I tell them what is expected and they don't follow it, 'taint my problem!

Plans for today are to run to radio shack to see if I can get a tip for my soldering iron, then pick up some prescriptions. The tips I bought at sears are too small for my Weller, and if I go to radio shack and they have no tips, I can pick up a new iron which should be smaller than my Weller (which is kinda bulky for model work)
I've already been doing more bodywork to the GP5 nose and the coupla for the compound caboose. Once I get the tips or new iron, I'll re-solder the 9-pin plug in my SW1000. Maybe I'll even try those SMDs I got from another diner. I figure I'll give BLI and NCE a call about getting some stuff.

Well, I'm a little sad this morning. It turns out that JimCG will not be visiting today because our schedules were not quite in sync. I have other stuff later today, and it would not be possible for Jim to arrive early enough to have a long enough session at the 3 layouts here in this area. I was busy getting the layout ready yesterday, too. The problems are at my end with too many things going on. We'll reschedule at a later date.
Vincent, the F3's were DC, and I added drop in decoders made by Digitrax, and added the Digitrax Soundbugs. I'm learning as I go along. AT a later date, I can get the correct sound for F3's downloaded. A friend of mine has the stuff needed to connect to a computer for that. Now, however, the sound is fine with me.

Today has been one of these days. The weather turned out to be a lot nicer than the weather guessers had predicted, but ...
Somehow, I was up to nothing, other giving my tracks a dusting, err, run a few trains. I spent a few hours tinkering with Petra´s new computer. Do I love Windows 7 ! The computer itself is quite OK, given the price of it - just like new . I am already feeling the effects of Petra having her own pooter - she spends less time in the kitchen. While this is certainly good for my waistline, my taste buds will suffer!
Tonight´s soccer match sees Germany playing Greece. This is going to be less of a soccer match and more of a political showdown, as the Greek blame Germany for having to cut public spendings - how stupid!
Petra will most likely watch the match, that´s more train time for me!
Morning from SunnyCal. our heat wave has broken, we've got high 70's to mid 80's predicted for the next 4 or 5 days, with one of those rare Alaskan summer cold fronts dipping down. We even have rain predicted for the far north part of the state up around Mt. Shasta. Beats the heck out of the 103 we had last week.
Garry: Couldn't help but chuckle about your Genesis F-3's. I have a sound-equipped A-B set that I really like (Diesels?? ME????) and since I'm DC, I seem to get very random bell and whistle sounds when I'm running them. In fact everything seems to blast off every time the locos go from one block to another. Don't know whether that sets them off, or whether the decoder is just timed to let loose randomly, but it's a hoot. Literally. LOVE that North Coast Limited of yours, BTW!
Curt: I like those Baldwin Sharks. I also REALLY like that 'rust' effect on your track. Did you use one of those felt pens or a brush? Good effect!
Barry: Are you on regular chemo? Reason I ask, is that a good friend of mine had to have a kidney removed because of cancer, and the doctors out here have him on a chemo pill instead of intravenous. The pill is called Votrient, and it's supposed to have much less of the often devastating side effects of regular chemo. Unfortunately, it's an extremely expensive procedure--I think he said that the pills cost about $6000 a month. Luckily, his insurance pays about 85%, but it's still a pretty big out-lay. He'll be on the pill for about 2 years. However the side-effects seem to be minimal.
Darren: Hopefully our weather pattern will slide over into Colorado and bring some cooler weather and moisture to help fighting that devastating fire. It's supposed to move east and south in a few days, at least according to our weatherman. I hope it gets to you.
Going to see one of my ex-student's new movies tonight--Greta Gerwig. Had her at St. Francis when I taught choir there some years ago. She went back to New York, became a kind of "Indie" movie star, then broke out into mainstream--she was in GREENBERG and ARTHUR, and is due out in Woody Allen's newest film later this summer. This new movie of hers is called LOLA VERSUS (?) and is supposed to be very funny. I've got good memories of her from high school, she was very talented, very sweet and VERY witty. She was active in the drama department at St. Francis, and when she was on stage, everyone else just seemed to disappear. That kind of 'star' quality. I'm wishing her luck, she really deserves it, IMO.
Well, that's about it from SunnyCal today, have to get Chester off my lap and go feed the little guy. Uff-Dah is banging at the computer room door, so it's DEFINITELY 'kitty-breakfast' time.

My brother continues to recover from his angioplasty and latest new stent following his 4th heart attack. Must get depressing to go through such episodes. You know he was the First sibling to have trains (Lionel O & HO) and is the reason I am into them today.
My regular puter is still quiet sick and keeps freezing up. However, I was able to verify all the photos are still in there, so should be recoverable. This old backup puters small screen size is hard for my eyes to see. It is also terribly slow, so it will be nice to eventually get the usual puter fixed.

Well, it is Done.

I went and fetched the funeral Urn for Munchie's ashes {with her ashes inside}.
The certificate accompanies it and assures us that deed was done.
MOH couldn't go for balling at the mere sight of it and not being able to drive home {we went on separate errands}.
So It was I who Did the Dirty Deed.
The girls at the vets oohed and aaahed over the urn. It is a bronze kitty curled up in a ball with angel wings {Note: NOT anGEL wings as the box says} on its back. It is engraved with Munchie's name and years. Munchie used to lie on the back Of MOH's chair that way all the time. SO that was why MOH chose it.
SO that is done. She will "live" on the top of the TV/entertainment cabinet for awhile, while MOH figures out if Munchie should be buried in InLaw's back yard next to "nephew Tippy" {FIL's cat}. if so, it won't be for after awhile of having Munchie here.
MOH has been wearing Munchie's collar {on the wrist} with her heart shaped emergency notification on it for the last week in rememberance.
So I did a few other errands but none so important as that one.
I think Time for a nap is in order.

Well my trip to radio shack and the pharmacy was scratched off the list. Apparently when I gave my last check to my mother to deposit for me, because she works at the bank. Turns out she didn't deposit it, but rather cashed it for herself. So now I don't even have enough money for my meds I knew I should have changed banks, and I'm going to have a "chat" with her when she gets home. Maybe next time she sends me to get gas for her car with her card, I'll hit the ATM for some cash for myself.
Still chipping away at the GP5 nose. it seems a few areas just don't want to be smoothed out, no matter how many times I appy filler and sand it smooth... I was working on some other projects, but ran into hitches. So I'm just taking it easy for now.
