Good morning all:

Jim, 2 guys from the train club: Jeff and Jimmy; dropped off a bunch of materials and asked me to build a layout for Jeff’s Grandson.  I think the expectations are set just a little higher than a folded dog bone and I think that South Jersey & Delaware Railway track plan will provide a little shock and awe when delivered.

Chris, you hit the nail on the head about CPR.  This is going to sound really horrible but: I get the impression it’s not about what’s best for the patient but more of someone new being in charge of the program that wants to leave an impression on the program.  Something on the order of getting a new supervisor that makes a policy changing what color stethoscope you can carry or what pocket will have 4x4’s and what pocket you’ll carry medical tape in.

So far just wind and rain. Curt lives in Winter Garden, about 45 minutes south of me. News reports tornado or mini burst , trees down, power out. Hope he has been spared any damage. Vincent is also in danger from this storm. Sporadic heavy rain and high winds, possible tornados all day a possibility. Have to get folks to dialysis in this mess. Wheelchair folks gonna get a bit wet. I'll get poked with an umbrella more than once. Hope thats the worst.   My Debbie can be a WARRIOR. When her IRISH/INDIAN temper gets raised, stand back. This Debby is a pest[the storm].  Vincent-stay aware. Curt-when able check in.

They just showed trees and power lines down in Curts town              Prayers for ALL

Lunchtime!

Zoe, burger & fries, please. Add an RBF for me.

Thank goodness I found some sleep last night. The pain died down at about midnight, so I could find some relaxation. Any pain in a facial area hurts twice as much ...

Jim - I was dressed properly for the type of weather we had an Saturday, but I should have worn a wool mask, like bank robbers do Smile, Wink & Grin The pain is some kind of neuralgia, which I usually have in winter time.

Flip - we are "enjoying" the same type of weather over here - lots of ra*n, quite windy, summing it up as "Schiet-Wetter", as the folks in my area call it descriptively.. Just leave out the "c" and the "e" in the first word, add an "a" behind the "e" in the second word, and trade the second "T" for an "h"... Smile, Wink & Grin

Those folks in the windy zone - please stay safe!

Time to run the midday train!

Have a good one!

Just popping in for a bite. Never noticed this place before. Well I suppose you get that when your new in the area.

Went down to check the post box and found a surprise.

A couple of cement hoppers have found there way down to me.

Better scoff this pie down, the wife has some rice pudding brewing at home. She will kill me if I ruin my apatite.

Good night all.

Cheers...

Gidday JimRCGMO, Thanks for your welcome, and as I presume that Diners in the US are "dry" Big Smile I'll have a green tea thanks, coffee plays havoc with me at this hour of night, won't be able to sleep.

As I said earlier I've cruised past the Diner on occasion, another good spot for photos etc. Have run across OzJim before on the forum, there appears to be a few members from across the "Ditch.

I model  freelanced HO based on the North Eastern Roads. First North American model railroad magazine I was given was the RMC which contained an article on W.Allen McClellands V&O, got me hooked, then got interested in the Clinchfield back when the MR, and the late Gordon Odegard built the N gauge layout.

I am now back at the local club, posted a couple of photos in this Weekends Photo Fun on demolishing a Layout. Sigh, hope things get to being positive, I don't have much patience with committees and club politics, though with the right atmosphere it can certainly get the creative juices flowing.

Had to "Goggle" Cape Girardeau, was a long time ago that I studied American geography at school, the MO threw me, sort of thought that it was short for Missouri but was wondering where in the heck did Missouri have an ocean coastline? Confused I guess the Mississippi is a substantial piece of water in its own right, after all its length is about 2.5x longer than New Zealand. Serves me right for jumping to conclusions especially when I should know better. Embarrassed

I see Galaxy has posted his early bird post and now as it's actually 0009 hours on the 26th and currently 39 F, its off to bed for me.

Goodnight to all / have a good day. Big Smile

Cheers,the Bear.

Welcome to Ausie Chris and NZ Bear. It's great to have some international diners, and I hope you decide to be here often. One of you mentioned the V&O. I was able to see it in person, and it was a great layout. I live in Western Kentucky, and have previously lived in several other locations in the middle of the USA.My layout is a fictional division of the old CB&Q or Burlington Route.

We arrived in Cincinnati, OH yesterday afternoon. (Actually we are about 25 miles northeast of the city). Grand-kids here are doing well.

Thanks again for the comments about the Friday emergency. I see there have been several more. I am still dealing with what would be the case if I failed to clear the food from Shelley's throat. She told me she had just placed a bite of meat in her mouth, and before chewing she started to laugh at a joke. Then she inhaled the bite of meat. Some of you said first aid techniques have been revised over the years, and I can see why. The back blows made it worse and not better. She was starting to black out by then. (Later she said, she lost he vision at that time)   I reached around her as well as the back of the chair she was in, and squeezed.  I think it was the fourth squeeze that finally cleared her throat, and it was when I use all my strength to do it. By then I nearly passed out myself. She is doing fine now.

Rob. The rail trip with cab ride sounds like a good one. Thanks for sharing photos.

JimCG .... Hope we can get things scheduled soon.

Chris in Iowa .... That GP7 would be a good prototype for those who like to weather their locomotives.

Have a good one as Jerry would say.

Morning All,

Still here in Sunny I mean Rainy Florida. Yesterday it was a sequence of put on rain gear, go to call, sweat in rain gear, get wet in rain gear, try to dry off, repeat to ad nauseum. More of same today and tomorrow. Thats OK Florida needs the rain, I will keep telling myself that.

Phil- Be safe on the road this week.

Vince- Try to stay dry.

Lee- Hope you continue to do well.

Ken- Did you ever get seen and your toe fixed up?

Got to go. Everyone take care and prayers for those in need.

 Morning!

 Flo, Coffee pleases.

Not sure how today is going to go, did not sleep great last night. Had to turn on the A/C all ready in the Train/Snake room but I still feel hot. A nap is starting to sound pretty good to me.

Good Morning!!!

Ooo. French Toast sounds good. Haven’t had that in a while. It does have some vanilla, and a touch of cinnamon in the batter doesn’t it? Oh yah! And will be dusted with powdered sugar? Great. I’ll have that and a cup of Coffee please. What? Oh, no I see Ray left his jar of syrup out. I’ll use it. Thanks.

Gotta touch of rain yesterday morn after I left here. It did actually rain for a bit but very light and not enough to measure in the gage, but it did enough to moisten the flowers in her pots. Sounds like Ray got the same kind of rain we’ve been getting. Enough to stop you from what you’re doing, but not enough to keep you from it once it quits. Cloudy and looks like rain out there now, but I’m not checkin the weather. Bad luck.

Great. Just when I thought I’d hear of them all, now a Calcium Attack.

Jim- I never have gone paperless billing and won’t until they stop it themselves. Reason being if my cornputer crashes, I have no way of paying the bill without calling them on the phone and I don’t personally want to start that practice. Besides, like you, the statement is a reminder in case I get….sidetracked and lose track of time. Hey. Happens. As for PF’s being common sayings, I guess so. Um….not many say it anymore though, just us older folk. And yup, Brenda is/was fully aware of me and Annie. Laugh In fact she used to be my partner at times during the refresher courses in the military. I won't say how many times I suggested practicing on herWink because at that time, we weren't seeing each other at first. I guess it didn't bother her as we started seeing each other later. UnofficiallyWhistling Whistling

Hey a big Welcome to OZChris and Bear. Looks like the down under folks are gangin up.Yes

No visit to trainroom yesterday and today don't look much better.

Ya’ll have a good day!!!!

And prayers are going out to all those facing Debbie. Be safe and careful.

Welcome OzChris and Bear.

Good morning. It's 81° and partly cloudy. The high will be 100° and it'll be mostly sunny.

Had a train running while I was typing this but the click-clack of wheels on the rail joints was getting annoying, so I put it in neutral and let it coast to a stop. I'll restart it after I've finished here.

The temp is due to hit the century mark today. I think it may be a good time to clean the a/c filter or replace it whichever the case may be. I use fiberglass mat filters that I cut to size to fit the unit. It's cheaper than the thin piece of crap screen filter the unit came with and works 500% better. All the screen filter does now is keep the fiberglass out of the coils.

Layout front: General cleanup that wasn't done yesterday. Maybe it'll get done today. I've still got the Y6B on my display shelf waiting to be packed for a trade for some items. I don't mind steamers but they're a bit out of my general era. Besides, I already have several that do nothing but hold the display track down.

Outside work: What? Are you kidding? I'm not going out there unless I have to.

It's Monday again Modelers...

It's been 100+ now for a few days with more coming which is 15+ above normal.  Water levels are so low that commercial rafting in the Yampa River is shutdown.  We now have 12 major fires burning here in Colorado causing historical damage; ~300 homes lost so far

Mornin' everyone! A tip of the engineers hat to the new guys from Oz!  Good to have you aboard.

Zoe, I'll have a bowl of organic flax seed granola with some fresh blueberries please.  Oh, and a cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug as well.

Jeffrey, hope the AC keeps plugging away for you.  I can't help but remember the first home my wife and I had right after we were married, an old 8' x 36' trailer.  It sat on a lot across the road from my fathers house on the farm.  It was unbearably hat in there, so we saved every cent we could for a month or two and finally managed to buy a small AC unit for one of the windows.  Spent all day on Saturday installing it.  Had the place nice and cool before we went to bed that night.  Turned it back on the next morning before I headed out to the church i was working at.  By the time I got home from church I noticed my wife had the AC off and all the windows open.  She was not happy!  Said it was like putting an ice cube in an oven....  She turned it off and opened the windows when it got over 90° in the trailer....

Currently at the high for the day here in the Finger Lakes Region.  Up to 67°F outside.  I will be heading out to camp to do some serious trimming in campsites early this afternoon.  We may get some showers late afternoon.

I have run into a snag on the water tower......  Any ideas on what would look the best to fabricate the steel hoops that are on the outside of the old wooden water towers to hold the staves together?  Tried a few ideas last night and none are going to work well and look right.  I can't do anything more with the roof until I get the hoops on the outside.

Best get moving.  Catch you all later!

Sounds like the unit was running wide open and she didn't know how to cut it back. Mine will put condensation on everything within ten feet of it if I let it run away on high. The layout is right in front of it so I can't let that happen. I keep it on low and on energy saver so it shuts down when it's not needed. It only froze up on me once. Yep, you guessed it, I was depending on the cheap nylon screen filter that came with it. Darn thing isn't worth 10¢ as a filter. Dirt goes right through it. That's when I started buying the big fiberglass filters. They're cheap and I cut two filter mats out of each one. Just put the nylon screen in the put the fiberglass in on top of it so the fiberglass is pinched between the nylon screen and the front grill. Works like a charm. Dirt and dust gets caught and the coils don't get dirty. My trailer is a bit smaller than yours was. It's an 8x25. The a/c unit is 12,000 Btu. Well you can see the data in the photo below.

Nope, it was cranking out lots of cold air........  Just was in an oven trailer THAT had very little insulation and sat out in the open in the sun.....  I built an add on bedroom (10' x 14') the following summer and put the AC out there.  It could freeze us out.... and keep the babies room cool, but couldn't begin to handle the whole trailer....  It cost us more than twice as much to heat the little 8 x 36' one than it did to heat our 12' x 70' 4 bedroom mobile home we bought a few years later...

Heading out to camp....  Later!

Aha! Little insulation will sure do it. I made sure to put plenty in my trailer when I rebuilt it in 94. I used fiberglass insulation, not the foam board so I was able to get it into every nook and cranny. Having an over roof on it helps a lot too as it keeps the sunlight off the roof. The heater I use in the winter looks big but that's mostly cabinet. The heater itself is smaller than a shoebox and heats the whole trailer. The temp stays between 65° and 76° year round.

Ray,

Do you have to use flat hoops? I have seen photos of wooden water tanks with cable used instead of hoops. That might be a lot easier.

Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood afternoon, plate of cheeseburgers please with a bucket of Coke to wash 'em down. Thank you.

LEE: I figure the Heart ASSociation just wants to keep themselves in business by issuing changes so often. With all of the "healthcare providers" THAT have to shift to the new "guidelines," THAT's a lot of training materials to sell. I also suspected they were in cahoots with the drug makers, leading to changes in meds for Advanced Cardiac Life Support algorithims. Take a proven med used for 30+ years, and knock it down for a touchy, expensive drug (Amiodarone in place of lidocaine) as an example. Amiodarone has a neat ability to turn to useless foam if it's shaken up...like from banging around in a drug box bouncing around in a compartment on a rescue truck running "hot" down a rural Iowa gravel road... In other words, not a "field friendly" drug!

But, its not my problem anymore. I gave up my Iowa Paramedic Specialist card in '08 and don't really miss it. I do get some "guilt pangs" when the local ambulance crew is desperately seeking a paramedic...but overall, I'm glad to be out of healthcare.

I still have the late 1990's algorithims for cardiac emergencies burned into my head, never quite got the "guidelines 2000" cemented-in as well. "Every Little Boy Masticates Smile, Wink & GrinPrivately"

GARRY: I would've gone right to abdominal thrusts, but THAT's what I was taught every two years from '93 on. You went right to back blows because THAT's what you were taught. The key thing is, you realized it wasn't working and tried something else...you got the hunk of meat out, and she's alive and well. Uh, you gonna start cutting her meat up for her now???MischiefSmile, Wink & Grin

ROB: Bucks well spent I'd say. The fanciest ride we've ever paid for was for a caboose on the Boone & Scenic Valley. $25 each got us seats in a Rock Island wide-vision caboose.

Greetings and salutations to JA BEAR and OZ CHRISWelcome. Hmmmmm, a LION and a BEAR. Any Tigers on the horizon?

CURT: Stay safe Pal... I don't miss rolling out in severe weather. It sounds like your call volume is going to sky rocket.

TODD: Propositioning a lady in a CPR class? Thumbs UpThumbs Up Then again, I met a major mistake in my paramedic class....practicing patient assessment had it's benefits, but overall I shoulda just left her alone! Broken HeartWilted FlowerBang HeadDunceDrinksDrinksDrinksDrinksDead

Have a good, SAFE day people! I'm kinda "on vacation" this week. I w**ked too many hours last week, thus giving BIG BOSS a major case of .....something un-printable. Sooooooooooooo will be taking it easy this week other than a major moving job for my parents. After 40 years in one house, they've decided to downsize and get a condo. Guess who's the lead mule on THAT project?

A Big Fat Furrry Welcome to the new diners!!!

Welm...we were without power this AM. THe Power Company required the Park to change out the power leads and meter boxes and ginormous fuses of hte old power transfer system. SO they did tha from 8:15- 11:45 I think...All I knwo was we had no power when i stepped into the shower {city water no need for power} and when I stepped out...voila it was on! I think they have by passed the meter heads temporarily as they are hanging there by an attached wire and we DO have power...expect the Power CO. will come and connect those later today or tomorrow.

Went to see my Dr. HAd to get some new scripts and we discontinued some older ones. We have added a new muscle relaxer as I react to the one he gave me to replace the newly controlled substance one that my insurance won't cover. Now we have some that now require pre-authorization as I mentioned before...ARGH! I guess whne they get teh new computerized system up and running in Oct, the Dr. will have a popup that will tell you if the insurance you have won't cover a script..so he/she can figure what to give you that will be covered! THEn all scripts will go electronically to the pharmacy..so no one can pass of a script to another person. WOn't necessarily stop shysters from selling off their pills once filled by electronic means...but it will cut down...and they can better monitor who is abusing narcotic meds. I have a NEED for my pills thank you very much. no giving/selling/ lending or anything from me, buster!

WEll, I need to update my computerized printout of my medical history. Speaking of which..have you all heard of the "Yellow Dot" Automobile program??? They give you a yellow dot to put on the window of your car and a yellow envelope to put in the glove compartment with a sheet filed out for medications and medical conditions you have...provided by the Sheriff's Dept.??? Then IF you are in an accident they can know what allergies to meds you have, adn what medical conditions {like Diabetes, heart disease} you have... Put your name on the envelope and inside you attach a picture of yourself with the info. MOH copied out Diver's license pic only and attached to the medical history sheets and wrote "yellow DOt" onthe envelopes adn put in teh glove compartment. Put one of each one of us in each vehicle. Good Idea...you can get the Yellow DOt stuff at participating Sheriff's Dept...OR JUSt stick a sheet with med history and copied photo in a marked evelope into the glove compartment!

That {above paragraph} is your life savings tip of the day. Costs practically nothing and could SAVE YOUR LIFE.

Hot in here without teh A/c running. I turned it back off when I went to teh Dr.s in case the Power company came to install the meter heads. Now going, but have an ear out for the trucks.

Welm, I guess that all for now...subs for din-din tonight...didn't know when/if power back on so we decided MOH would pick up subs on way home from Subway.

Again, a big fat Furry Welcome to teh newbies!!!!!!!

Afternoon guys

So far not a whole lot from Debby. Just some wind and rain, but nothing worse than a mild thunderstorm...

Just out of curiosity, does anyone in the diner have a derilect or modfied (new cab or trucks) P2K SD7 or SD9? I'm trying to hunt down the glazing and sideframes from one.

Well my saturday and thursday are gonna be super busy... We'll see how the rest of this week plays out.

Anyways, I have to go to another appointment. Be back later tonight.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

 Hi Again!

Flo, another Beer and around for the new folks from Down Under. Welcome Mates Beer

Well, I guess it was a good day.

Fix the mail box for now. Going to have to build a new post.

Dumped the trash and went to the bank to cover last pay-period medical bills. (Infected and rotting toe)  I am all so official broke again.

Cut the rear yard, was really not that bad because of our lack of rain. Which is fine with me! Big Smile Had not cut it for 5 weeks.

Trim the Irish Wolfhound toe nails. Cut one rear one a little short and Shaddy started bleeding, but she was a good girl. My wife on the other hand just about lost it! Bang Head You think I cut Shaddy's toe off! God help me if I stroke out! I stand a better chances of the Wolfhound calling 911 than Sue! Whistling

Train Front Yes, I even got some train time in!

Lost the sound again on the RSD 15 Blue Line, have no idea why. This time I was able to get the sound going on the mainline by us Op's mode. Surprise Only problem is I will have to hook up my PR 3 so I can set the CV's for the sound and motor decoder. At this point I am just happy to have sound again!

Moved the Frankenstein Dash 9 over to the B line and it likes it there!  On the A line there was one turn where it slowed down every time and it was getting on my nerves.

I was whining about not buying a new engine in 2 years! Two week ago when I picked up Vincent's engines I bought a pair of PK1000 F 3's. (great little engines if you can find them) Finally hardwired there decoders today! Stick out tongue Still need to tape up the solder points on the A unit, B is ready to go. Gave them a short test run and they are OK. Going to lube them and open the trucks and pick out any jelled lube. Next is speed matching then find them a good long train!

OK, now I am worried. Trains just shut down and the DB 150 did not chirp? All the decoders seem to be fine, time for the quarter test.

 Latter, Ken
