All is nice and dry outside..got all the windows open and the cat(s) are now perched on various windowsills here..
Spent my afternoon at the hospital doing the chemo thing..

Evening All,
Done with supper and a cup of coffee. For dessert we had a ice cream sandwich. We had a down pour today for about 45 minutes and if I could I would send it to Colorado.
I really enjoyed myself today running trains. I ran a empty coal drag to the mine and left the hoppers there for filling and then moved 7 or 8 locomotives around in the engine servicing facility via the TT.
Rob- Glad your brother is doing well
Ken- Is your toe still healing well?
Tom- The weathered rails is "Rust" latex paint applied with cheapie sponge brushes. I bought it at Lowes and Jeff gave me the idea.

Work was busy and boring today. I was scheduled to get off at 7:00 and left at 8:00.
Toe Front While it looks better I am not happy with the way it looks. At the rate the VA is moving, when I see a Doctor they will be taking the foot off! So I am breaking down and going the the Hell Hole called John Cochran Hospital ER on Sunday. They have giving some Vet's hepatitis and some other stuff. I think there was a story where they cut of the wrong parts from the wrong people! Well, I guess with all the bad press they got, there been some reform, well I hope! But at this point I feel like I am out of options.

I never glued the roof on because I intended to add floors, and lights. That was 4 to 5 years ago? Mine was a after thought (another name for a mistake) and was not in the original plain. If it was in the plain, I would have made it on a siding where the empty cars came in from one end and out the other. Oh well, there is next time right?
Have to be at work Saturday at 10:00 AM, so I better go look at a rerun of Ziva and see what she is up to!

Heartland Division CB&Q Hello friends in the diner. It was near tragedy this evening. Shelley and I attended a birthday celebration for Shelley's very good friend here. It included going out to eat with a bunch of friends. Shelley and I each ordered a steak. While eating, I suddenly felt Shelley pounding on my arm. She was choking and could not breath. Instantly, I recalled first aid I learned in Boy Scouts long ago. Back blows failed to dislodge food from her windpipe. I got behind and reached around her, and pulled under her ribcage. The third or fourth squeeze cleared the food, and she could breath again. As that happened a lady arrived at the table saying she was a nurse. I let her take over, but Shelley was already breathing. Shelley said she had already started blacking out, and so I was just in time. She was done eating after that. Glad to say Shelley is okay now. Scary stuff. Hope each of you has had a better evening.

Good morning. It's 73° and partly cloudy. Forecast says mostly cloudy by late afternoon. The high will be 95°. Looks like the high through the 28th will be 98°.Well on my experiment on the effects of 91% alcohol on N Scale rolling stock I can report either success or failure depending on what you think it did. I put two N Scale cabooses (Bachmann SF and Life-Like P2K L&N) and an old Micro Machines passenger car in to soak for twelve hours at the end of which I pulled them out and set them on a paper towel to dry without rinsing. They've sat out in the open air for around twenty hours now and show absolutely no sign of deformity. Even the handrails were not effected. The paint was effectively stripped with no damage to the models. In that it was a success. The intent was to see if the plastic would deformed and in that it was a failure as it's not deformed in any way. Nor is it brittle. I've seen many reports from modelers stating that soaking in alcohol dissolved their model but it should be noted that they had already tried other methods and the result they got could have been due to a chain reaction of chemicals. I'm now performing the same experiment on a Bachmann boxcar. Note that it went into the alcohol at 7:10 am. Therefore 7:10 pm this evening will be twelve hours.
Now as to why I'm late posting the results it couldn't be helped. Natural causes as my nephew would say. At 4:30 pm yesterday the cable went out and remained out until about 5:00 this morning. Seems Suddenlink is back in their habit of providing 'good' service that at best is total crap. So I had no internet, no home phone service with the exception of a free cell phone I got for emergency use only. More to the point my mother had no TV, no internet, no phone. What if she had to call someone regarding a medical emergency? I've had it up to the tops of my ears with this company and their lame excuses about their service. When it works it works albeit barely in many cases. Often times I have just enough upload speed to enable my VOIP phone service to work (minimum 128 kbps required) and I'm on broadband cable. There's no excuse for that!
I went to the grocery store already and spent $32 and got another $0.30 off a gallon of gas, giving me a total of $0.70 off a gallon up to 20 gallons for my next trip to the gas station.
Even though gas prices are falling, it is nice to get multiple cents off when you are going to buy the grocery products required and the gas anyway. I may even accrue more cents off before I go to get gas! Nice when you can shave a whole $1 or more off!
Now onto some laundry.
MOH went and got some foliage and flowers and made a wreath to go around the base of the funeral urn. Looks good.
AMybe a nap before laundry..I took both a pain pill and a muscle relaxer..tends to make me sleepy.
If MOH had today off, we would have gone to Steamtown....but alas not so.

Oh Garry! I’m so glad you didn’t panic and remained calm. That’d been a bit scary for me. I have been trained in that kind of stuff, but when it’s someone I really care for, love, my emotions take over and I draw blanks because of my feelings for that person. It’s happened twice with two diffrent people. I’ve had a few chances, not many but a few to apply life saving skills to people I know and don’t know and I had no problems. Good show man!
I’ve only had to give CPR once othern-tuh Annie. She was kinda cute in an odd way. WHOA!!! I did NOT just say that!!! Forget I said that. Luckily it was to my Mom. I’ve always said if you needed CPR and I don’t know you or what you just ate, I don’t know it. Turns out when it was time, I didn't. I couldn't remember which of the 47,000 new ways I've been taught over the years was the newest "right way". I suppose any way would have been ok. But the 911 lady remembered. I think. At least she sounded like she new. I might have missed the eeny meeny miney moe part.

Finished breakfast and drinking some coffee now. I go back to w**k tomorrow. We have around a 70% chance of rain thru Wednesday then it drops to 50% the rest of the week. I will probably go to the club for a bit today.
Ken- Because of how well put together the mine was I had to modify it a little, also I had to adapt it to existing laid track. I put the simulated coal covering on it maily to hide all the glue spots that were on it.
Garry- Great job with Brenda. I am glad she is doing well. Todd is right, even those of us that do this for a living, when we are dealing with family and friends it changes everything.
Jeff- Interesting experiment.

Garry....... All those things are good to know as you never can tell when the info can be useful. My oldest son saved me years ago... I was in the kitchen starting to prepare supper for the family. We were having left over roast beef. I had a small chuck of it that I popped in my mouth get lodged in the throat. He was outside in our back yard, thankfully. When I found myself in trouble, I had the common sense to get outside onto the small porch and banged on the wood to get his attention. He somehow got his arms around me and gave a good squeeze and it popped out. He had learned it only a month or two before in his First Aid MB training in his Troop! I think he was all of 12 at the time.

Today will be another busy one.... An old friend from college and his wife will be meeting me out at the R&GV RR this afternoon. After they get the full tour (and possibly a loco ride) we will head out to the Red Lobster for dinner. He is a big fan of railroads (both model and 1/1 scale) although he doesn't have a model railroad himself. They are back in area for the wedding of the daughter of one of their friends from back when he taught music in the area. They have a few hours free today, so we made plans to meet at the museum. We manage to get together about once a decade, so this should be a fun day! This fall I just may take a week and get out to see my youngest son in Chicago and since they live just outside of Chicago I can spend a day with them also.
Looks like it should be a pleasant day around these parts today. Currently a nice 72°F with a high mid afternoon of 76°F with partially cloudy skies and a nice breeze to boot.

Morning from SunnyCal. Yesterday peaked out at 77, today's supposed to be even cooler. We got rain just north of Sacramento--not much, but enough to lower the fire danger in the northern mountains. Evidently this Alaskan low we've got is supposed to spin around off the coast for the next few days, then move east. I sincerely hope it moves in over Colorado, for the sake of the firefighters there.
Not much new on the MR front--I did buy some Radio Shack speakers for my under-table MaxxTraxx system, which I just got back from repair (it's been quiet out in the garage lately, LOL!). Hooked them up yesterday under the layout. VERY good bass response, had to lower the volume almost to a whisper, and even then I got a really good, deep bass response on the chuffing. My Yellowstones really THUMP, now. Okay, it's not tender-mounted and I have to use the Doppler button to get the impression of the sound traveling with the lokie, but hey, it's fun.
I was working on the layout in the garage and a couple of young Mormon Missionaries came by on their bycicles. They got so involved investigating the layout that they forgot to do their little 'sales-pitch' until about twenty minutes after they arrived. It got pretty interesting when they saw the Franciscan cross around my neck. I told them I was an HRC (Happy Roman Catholic) and we kind of let it go at that. Actually, I think they were having more fun following one of my trains around the layout than trying any 'conversion.' Nice kids. I wished them well. They were from Salt Lake City and they kind of grinned a lot when I told them that I was a big fan of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Utah Symphony.
Curt: I really like your modified coal mine. That Walther's kit is really versatile, isn't it? I modified mine to a western gold mine (the building complex is very similar to the old Empire Mine up in my neck of the woods). But that's a REALLY nice job!
Well, that's about it from here. Have to go out and tinker with some track this morning, then do a little practicing for this evening's Vesper Mass. I thought I'd retired, then last week I got a call to fill in for the regular Music Minister tonight. Baptisms. I sure hope they remember to put the Script in the piano bench--Baptismal Masses can get really tricky.

I just looked in on the Bachmann boxcar I have soaking in the alcohol. So far no apparent harm to the car nor to the paint. That was some pretty tough stuff I was using around twenty-five years ago. Krylon gray primer I think.

That pic was probably taken in the 1920s or earlier. It is of the interurban UNION TRACTION CO. OF INDIANA where it crossed the LE&W/NKP IMC line about five miles south of Tipton IN. The railroad still exists (now operated by the Indiana Transportation Museum) and is used for excursions. The photo was one of many of locations on the line that the interurban had done for their own records.

Well, our part of the yard sale did pretty good...$900 ..a few others had about the same but most were in the $200-300 area. So my rap bit must have done the trick....even if I look like a bedraggled little muffinhead....

Work was a long day. 8 to 5, with no break. Best part is I go in from 6-2 the next two days. When I got home I had the package from Ken, and another package. The other package had the custom-painted and detailed SD7 I had bought off of ebay.
This is the picture used in the listing:
The good: It has a DSR15 decoder, the beacon has a 1.5v bulb (not controlled by the decoder yet), and the paint work is really good (will look better after a glosscoat to hide the decal film)
The bad: It was missing a door, missing windows, air tanks were floating around in the box, runs really noisy, mechanism is dirty
I fixed the missing door by using a door from my busted up BN GP18. The seperation line on the GP18 door and the SD7 line up perfectly, and the colors are almost spot on. I just had to glue it shut. The airtanks were re-attached by drilling out the hole for it in the frame, and then CAing it. As for the glazing, I tried the ones from P2K GP9s and atlas SD24s and they both were too large.So I'm looking for some windows from p2K SD7/9s, I haven't checked AMB to see if they have glazing for it. That and a speed recoder would finish the thing off.
As for the stuff from Ken, I'm going to use most of it on swaps with a friend. I probably won't get that ironed out for a week or two.

Time for me to call it a night. I popped the two cabooses back into the alcohol (new and clean) to dissolve what's left of the paint. They look a bit tacky with bits of paint sticking off at all angles. It's been my experience that Bachmann models can take a long time to be stripped. I've had to leave some HO models in to soak for forty-eight hours or more with no harm to the plastic. See y'all tomorrow.

Spent most of today out at the R&GV RR Museum giving and old College friend of mine and his wife the grande tour. It was fun to see them again. This gentleman was a guitarist in the first crew of the group, "The Young Americans" way back in the 1960's. They just had this spring a huge Reunion Concert of all the different crews from the group. He was wearing his Tee shirt from the reunion today..... I promised them I would take a week and drive out to Chicago this fall to see my Son and them.... He has promised a day trip to a few museums out there.......
We then headed to Red Lobster for dinner.... Then headed back home. I am taking tomorrow off from family, museum, and other stuff to just get some needed things done around here...... Like Laundry, Lawn, Printing out the NMRA Division Newsletter and other such things.
