Hello ...

Barry ...Happy B'day one day early. Save cake for the diner chow hounds.

Lee ... Your trip to MI is 2 or 3 weeks ahead of ours. ... Perhaps, I can see Duke again though.

Chris ... Nice photos ad good work on the boxcar.

Ulrich .. Hope the Tanzania works out for you. Perhaps, you will be re-united with your Merecdes. It is not likely you have many visitors from Elliots Diner.

Some of you may have noticed Todd's message to me. It was in response to a PM (Conversation) I sent to him. No need to be private, but I was not going to bother everybody with the latest church situation.

Shelley and I have decided to drop out of helping with church group that helps people with problems as we have done for four years.  We got started participating when we were helping Shelley's sister from Florida who we moved here. Her sister died 3 years ago, but we continued because it's good to help needy people. The director's wife died one year ago. Soon afterwards, the host church no longer wanted the program in its building which made me angry. We continued to help the program partly as a favor to the director who has been a good friend. Things have become worse. The director (in his mid 60's like me) decided to help a woman with big problems mostly on his own. The group leaders are clearly required to observe rules about separation of genders. He is no longer in compliance with those rules.  We're not comfortable with the program anymore because of that. Looks like the devil is winning this small battle. We're still deciding about our next church, but have a good idea what it will be. I think the Lord has other plans for us.

No progress on teh layout today, but hope to accomplish some later.

Happy Model Railroading.

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood Afternoon, plate of cheeseburgers with a bucket of Coke please, and thank-you.

Well, I found out WHY the maintenance guy can't change-out a flourescent light tube: it's but one small part of a very large, very comprehensive project. I think I lit-up the City Administrator by asking her THAT question... it seems as of this moment, I've soothed her ruffled feathers. Good thing...she's a drinkin' buddy with THAT. Seemed like (still does, actually) a fair question to me, and I'm sure it's one somebody else would ask. I also found out the contractor is a) provided by Alliant Energy, b) no bid was necessary as it was under the required threshold, and c) a local contractor said the project was "too small." OK...well, THAT will answer the people who will ask "why isn't a local guy doing the w**k?". Now, I just gotta write it up to turn in tomorrow.

ROBBY P: Thanks, yeah...the boxcar is coming along, just taking my time on it. It's one of those projects THAT if I botch it, I can't just grab another one and start over... Robins Rails kits haven't been around in quantity in several years. I think there is one on TheBay currently...a Southern Pacific car. IF it's still there after the next paycheck arrives...I might grab it, strip it, paint it Rock Island maroon, get appropriate Herald King decals, and do another one; replacing another Athearn foobie. This one replaces a MDC/Roundhouse foob. It will likely be stripped, repainted/decaled, and become a CNW 32000 series boxcar. One more for the Quaker Oats pool, or could go into the pool for Jerabek Distributing (beer wholesaler).

Stink bugs 'eh??? You can keep 'em!!!! We're about ready for the invasion of the "Asian Beetles," or "Japanese Beetles." Rust-orange colored Lady Bugs. They smell...like dirt...if you crush 'em. Annoying little things, the Wife HATES them with a passion. A ba-zillion of 'em showed up just in time for our outdoor wedding almost seven years ago...

Maybe THAT was a sign...Whistling

I see some interesting conversations elsewhere on the Kalmbach property...one wondering if this is an "all-male" hobby or not. I resisted the urge to throw-in my half-a-cent of opinionated opinion. I did throw-in some words for a guy tasked with planning his buddy's funeral.

I see we have a new guy wondering what this place is all about (welcome, by the way...sorry I didn't catch your name)...well, it's just a place for guys (and gals) who realize life goes on beyond the RR room walls. Who realize there is more to the hobby than arguing about which DCC system is "the best." Who realize there is more to the hobby than arguing about if Kato is right with 3 rivets on a locomotive piece, or if Athearn is with 4. It's a place for guys (and gals) to sit back, shoot the bull, and enjoy good friends and good conversation; with railroading (model AND prototype) thrown-in as a common interest. So friend, pull up a chair, sit a spell, and welcome!

Back at it... THAT content ain't writing itself...

Think of it as a virtual cafe or diner, where friends meet before or after work and just chat. Any topic is OK, as long as you stay within the rules of this forum.

We do a lot of chatting here, not only on MRR related matters. We care about our friends and their relations. We are also an open bunch - so you are welcome to join in.

Good Morning! Coffee please. Thanks. What’s that smell? Oh, Stink bugs. Well don’t step on them and they won’t stink! What? Barry and Ray were dancing on the ones that fell out of Robby’s pocket? SighKids.

Homecoming Parade was last night and then everyone in the county decided, Bella’s. Bella Trattoria would be a great place to get a pizza. I ended up w**king til close. Needless to say I didn’t get back to Mom’s house. Sooooo today I should go out there, but I need also to go in and se her. Then I w*rk at 5.

Ray- We have two seasons here. Road Construction, and Road Destruction.

G- That’s sad. I will add her family to the prayer list.

Jeff- Out of Dr visits? What if…. But if….You mean you can’t…..?????? You know, you’re right about the “gee that’s gotta hurt. Here’s a shoe” procedure, but they should have an Xray to insure that the bone is at least in a healable position. Ok, just saw your last post about the fused bones. But still…..

Ken- I know your frustration. When I was unexpectedly “retired” 20 years early, of course the bills didn‘t retire as well. Last year went to see about a refinance for the house. Lower interest, less time, lower payment. All looked good. Until….. The (Zip it!) underwriters. Since my income is now 40% of the old, we don‘t make enough to safely qualify for the loan. Now, I make the current payment. Granted not much at all left at the end of the month, don’t really have a hobby budget, just what’s left over after the end of the month whatever I feel can safely spend considering the things needed but not got yet, but we can make the payment without a huge problem other than just tighter than we‘d like. So if I can make the higher payment, why can’t I make a lower one??Tongue Tied?? Makes you just want to reach across the table and slap the fire out of them. So we just watch what we spend and hope the truck don’t break.

DerJohn- There is always 55 gal drums of cuting oil and solvents etc. that need stored. Rolls of metal….and of course, boxes of fish sticksWhistling.

Garry- I understand the separation of genders reasoning. I’m afraid one of these days the Pastor in our Church may not be able to counsel a female on his own. A few have soiled the water and now everyone reacts like it’s a plague. I know what my knee jerk first come to mind answer is but, I don’t know the good solution without alienating or ignoring some.

Ulrich- What did I do to get rid of the sour mood? Woke up. I have no idea what set me in the mood, and why it lasted so long. Usually I get in a mood and it’s gone pretty quick. But when I do have some problems, other than little moment problems, I usually reflect on the fact that it could be worse. I count the blessings I have. Not the things like material things. Things like my kids, grandkids, and of course, my wife. Health? Well There is this little girl who just graduated from High school last year. She is very intelligent. Problem is, she is a quadriplegic. Can’t speak. Just makes noises. But she is totally aware and understands all that is going on. Imagine as a child growing up never being able to do what the kids around you are doing. Playing ball, dances, driving. Nothing. It’s bad enough if you can’t do these things but are mentally underdeveloped and don’t really understand, but she does. She hears what the kids do, their conversations, everything. I can only imagine what she goes through knowing going to Disney World is only a visual treat for her. Nothing more and never will be. When I get kinda down on what I can no longer do, I think of the little Strode girl. At least I have the memories to smile at. She doesn’t. I don’t want to make it sound like I use others disabilities to make me feel better. That isn’t true, but I do see that, you know....., I’m pretty blessed. I won’t go into the little girl down the road with cancer………

Out of Doctor visits… bull……..pucky.

Y’all have a Great Day now ya hear?!!!

Just popped in to catch up on the "local news" before heading out to York, PA.

Ken......  If your foot is making a pooping sound, I'd get to a doctor right away.  Something is definitely wrong with your anatomy.......WhistlingLaugh  Sorry, I just couldn't help myself..........Smile, Wink & GrinLaugh  ROFLMAO!

Good morning.   The high will be around 89 degrees.  I thought it was fall now!!

Well I feel like I'm making progress in the basement.   The show is slowly creeping up.    So that's where I will be again today.

Lee.........I will have to wait and see what detail I have added to the cars, and how much time I put into them as far as price.  I do agree with the eastern car ideas.  I will have to see what I can find next time to get to the LHS.

Vincent.......I haven't tried/heard of that.   All I do is grab them and throw them back outside.

DerJohn.......I forgot to mention.....I like how the fence came out.  Looks good!

Ken.........I know how it feels about the bank.  Our loan just fell apart!!   We would have had the house down to a better loan, taxes paid for, and my wife's credit cards paid off.    That didn't work!!!  Now we are still at 10.99% house rate, had to pay $1,500 in taxes the other day, and the credit cards are still not paid off!!!  All because we couldn't get a letter saying she is in deferment (student loans) for a year!!!!

Chris.......The boxcar is really coming along.

I will tell everybody what my new saying is.........."I prayed to god last night, and the devil answered!!"  That's how it has felt lately Bang Head.

I will pop back in later.

Good Morning,

Jeff
, maybe it’s a sign that you need to slow down just a little?  I hope everything heals up fast.

Der John, a metal fabricator would need sheet metal/tube steel/wire steel so loads of raw steel of one of these would be good as an incoming train loads on flats or gondolas.  The finished product would need to go out maybe in boxcars? Let us not forget the scrap metal gondolas hauling away the refuse.

Road trip tomorrow, heading to Macomb Twp, MI to help my daughter renew her medical card at the ANGB.  I’ve decided not to risk the 1500hrs Detroit Traffic so I’m going to spend the night in Utica.

Ken, those buttons on the Digitrax seems to stick easy.  The rubber buttons somehow get caught on the metal face of the controller.

Galaxy, I’m sorry for your loss of a family friend; that defiantly is an odd chain of events.

Robby, are those the black bugs with the red markings?  Hey look for a New York Central 50 foot box car in Jade Green.  I think the green and the weathering would make a good contrast on that car and I’m sure you could find some good examples (pictures) with a brief search of the internet.  I think Athearn sells them for $14.  I wouldn’t make tags for each car.  I would sell them all at the same price and see what sells, and then you have a better idea what the market wants. Western roads don’t sell well over here, but eastern roads fly off the shelf.  You may find that your particular area has a market for particular railroads as well.

Mourning Flo, I will take a bucket of Coffee with cream and sugar.

My sleep is really starting to get screwed up lately. Feel like going a sleep between 7:00 and 9:00 PM and I am starting to wake up at 4:00 AM. If I was working on a Farm I be in good shape.

Jeffery I am sorry to here about the foot breaking again. I have pretty much stopped walking around barefoot because I would here a pooping sound coming from my left foot.  I sure don't want to wind up I a boot.

 Today's missions.

1 Clean the garage / Train room. Over flow from the Kitchen has got the garage a mess.

2 Costume cut the last few pieces of tile for the kitchen. Should be able to do that before the wife gets up.

3 Start working on the passenger station parking lot and road going to the station. The foam I picked from Micheal's looks like it going to work out real well. All so I picked up some 3 M 72001 White Pinstripe to use for the strip on the road. It is a double line stripe and looks good on a section of road I had ready. Only bad thing is they did not have the 50 foot roll, so I had to buy the 150 foot roll. Boy pinstripe from when I was pin striping at the body shop. It was $19.00 for the roll, 5 years ago I was paying $12.00.

If anyone here could use some road stripping let me know, I will never use 150 foot of it.

Chris Thank you for the kind words on the Hopper and about the stupid bank. Both are a pain in the Caboose.

On the hopper, about the only thing left is to install some grab iron's, and stirrup's. There some other detail parts I cannot figure where they go, so I guess the car does not need them!

 See you all for lunch.

Sir Madog

Jeff - Ouch! I am very sorry that your foot is broken again - I hope, it´ll heal in short order. Petra told me to send you a healing kiss (no, I am not jealous!)

It should heal fairly quickly. Almost all the bones in my right foot are fused together, so they won't be moving independently and that heavy boot won't let it move anyway.

Good Morning,

the last couple of days showed fair autumn weather in this neck of the woods. August and September have been way too wet to feel comfortable, it seems, as if Mother nature attempted to compensate for the hot and dry July.

Flo, I´ll have an hungry man´s breakfast, with all the works, and lots of coffee, please.

Nothing specific planned for the day - just wait and see, what the day will deliver. There is only a short HD list for the day - laundry, my favorite

I did write a nice letter to the folks in Tanzania, and it seems, as if we are still in the boat. They need a little more time to make up their mind. I don´t think there are that many applicants for those jobs. I need to be more patient, but that´s not really within my character.

Jeff - Ouch! I am very sorry that your foot is broken again - I hope, it´ll heal in short order. Petra told me to send you a healing kiss (no, I am not jealous!)

Chris - after 65 years, the remembrance on the time as a POW seems to fade away. Those guys certainly remember the more "funny" incidents, not the hardship and the bad times. I bet there were plenty ... Still we should listen to those stories - there are not that many witnesses of those days around anymore.

Nice pics, btw - keep them rolling...

John - I am always fascunated to see, what you make out of that iNsane scale

Sam - I am glad to hear, that you are getting closer to your dream job - I keep my fingers crossed for the upcoming tests.

Barry - I am sorry, but it is too early to congratulate. You will have to wait until tomorrow. Flo, Barry´s breakfast is on me, whatever he´d like to have.

Ken - I completely fail to understand a bank´s decision on issuing loans nowadays. The bank, that decided that financing my business was too risky and revoked the already signed credit agreement, lost a 2-digit amount of billions $ on the US real estate market. In the same year, their CEO was awarded a bonus, which exceeded the loan I was asking for. Better to step off the now!

Where is Keith?

A good day to all of you!

And.................................we're back! Flo? Could you maybe explain to me what Young Mr. SAWYER meant when he said "BEAST" and "EPIC?" I'm thinking those are good things... I mean, he didn't say "EPIC FAIL," THAT one I know!!!!

Thanks guys for the kind (I think) words on the pics I've been tacking up lately. Maybe I'll whip-out another one here before long.

DER JOHN: Thanks for the advice...actually, I just finished the article. A Don Williams song I've always really liked, "Good 'Ole Boys Like Me," was playing on my iTunes...and a line hit me: "...learned to talk like the man on the six 'o clock news..." Then it hit me, write it up like the TV dudes and dudettes do...with a bunch of "sound-bites" (quotes) THAT relate to each other in some way. Overview, opening remarks, specific stories (in very brief 15-second bites), and wrap-up. I'm liking it...hope THAT does too. But, ultimately, it's the vets who I'm hoping like it the best.

Now, I'm w**king on a battle plan for a story about the City of North Liberty getting "stimulus" grant money to pay half the cost of replacing most if not all of the city's light bulbs and light fixtures. Seems THAT by replacing a 30-something watt flourescent light with a 25-watt version, the City expects to save big, big bucks. The local utility (Alliant Energy) is putting up the other half, to be paid back on each monthly bill. The way THAT works, is the City will pay the same amount it has been, the difference between the savings and the previous bill being the loan repayment. To do the job, the City hired a contractor to come in. I guess the City's maintenance guys couldn't be bothered to swap-out flourescent tubes...so the contractor gets to. I think they could've gotten a local contractor to put in the new fixtures, but really? the janitor/custodian/maintenance guy can't put in a light bulb? Really???

*sigh*

VINCENT: The Robins Rails ladders are...clunky and chunky, THATs why I dug out my stash of Front Range parts (thank you TheBay...)

Plus, I had to chop the end ladders and make/install the long grab across the end.

So THAT eventually, this car will look like it's 1:1 prototype.

I see the next "to go" bucket of coffee is ready, so will grab it and be on my little-bit merrier way...

Hey guys I'm back.

Welp, drove my sister to dance and started having problems with my Ipod. Likes to lock itself out of nowhere, even if I am doing anything. Then it starts getting the shut down screen all the time. I just reset it to factory specs, lets hope I can get this blasted thing fixed. Bang Head

Hey guys

Today was pretty busy. Work all day, then go right to school. Had no time for MRRing or anything else. Fun part, I have to be back to school in 11 hours...

Dunno if I'll drop in tomorrow since i'm gonna be busy packing for my trip to Texas. Might not drop in until monday night (gonna try to make it back for the MNF Packers/Bears game). The main reason for going is the NHRA race in Dallas. While I'm there (staying with a friend in Austin) I plan to visit Austin steam train (they have an RSD-15 doing to work while the Mikado is being rebuilt; it should still smoke though Smile, Wink & Grin) and maybe visit a few hobby shops over there (more likely to be western road stuff there, all I can get over here is CSX/NS or there predecessors)

Chris, nice shot there! I though the Ex-lax bar thing was kind of funny (not that he got captured, but I know what ex-lax does does). It's kind of funny you mentioned the Font range/McKean/accurail thing when you did. I was wondering who got the front range molds (I was thinking Hubert's or Walthers) Now I know who to bug to try to make some 60' or 63' centerbeams By the way, are the ladders from that Robin's Rail the same as they used on their (and later con-cor) 60' boxcars?

Jeff, sorry to hear about the foot

Sawyer, busy eh? I hear you on those plastic shrouds. Duct tape does work. I've used it for that same purpose on the 97 mustang I had.

Robby, have you tried the "can of brake cleaner and a lighter" method on them? I use it on some of the larger venomus spiders that build webs in and around the shed, garage, and carport.

Barry, happy early birthday

Vincent

Chris: Nice shot! Thumbs Up

Jeff: 14 times? Wow. Hope it heals up soon.

Good evening Diners: Well, as a salute to a passing summer, I'll have an ice cream cone please.  Not a bad day for weather here, and was able to get some more outside project stuff seen to.

Jeff:

You must be at least 21 to purchase either and the penalties can be steep if it's found that someone is purchasing for a minor. Wal-Mart is quite strict about it. I've seen instances where people were banned from the store for such practices.
....sounds at first blush Draconian; but I'm for it 'cos it sends a clear message that it's irresponsible behavior.  SoapBox  Sorry to hear about your foot. I guess - and it is just a guess - that the only up side of your situation is that when this happens, you don't have a whole lot of sensation.

Todd (and) Garry:

DerJohn- I like where you are going with the scene.
....thanks, I think it's going to work. What's more difficult is deciding on the storage racks, and what kind of things would be stored.  Everything has to be short enough for a fork lift to lift and turn inside the arch and between the racks.  The industry is supposed to be a metal fabricator. I'd like to have supplies beefy enough to need rail delivery (Steel sheet/coil/rod - that sort of thing.) The gate is limiting, as is the orientation of the building door - forced by the nearness of the mainline. Rail delivery would be on a spur yet to be laid that is primarily for helping service the mill/bakery - somewhere to put cars that are being shuffled on the bakery spur.  I'd like to use flat cars, as I've got a couple, and nowhere for them to go except in trains that just go around the Christmas tree, if you take my meaning.  Thoughts on those supplies and their racks would be appreciated.  I could change the whole purpose of the industry if necessary, but I wanted something "rough" because of the location.

Galaxy: My condolences on the loss of your friend - that is tragic, and all the more difficult being totally unexpected. Angel

BTW, I couldn't use the Forum spell check either, but it works for me now, ever since I switched to Firefox as my browser.Cool

Chris:

Forgot to mention, I liked THAT shot you tacked up of the M&StL Alco on the Boone and Scenic Valley.
....You're welcome, but I just copy and paste from my stash of shots  you guys (or folks who email me train stuff) have already posted. Most of the time I haven't a clue as to what they are, in the kind of detail you just gave, I mean.  BTW, would THAT go for a folksy approach to the POW/MIA type article, like you saying you were talking to a bunch of us about it, and this is what you remember "......."? Nah, didn't think she would, but it was an idea!Clown

I've now got the mesh on the fence, so that part of the project is near done. There is the matter of the state of the road to that industry. Looks like the crew has some work to do!   That will have to wait for now. Things will get busy around here (or away from here as a lot of the busy is trips to Dartmouth and Halifax for appointments and meetings.) so, Barry, here's an early   for you.  Right now though, I'm off to run a train.

Goodnight all, and prayers for those in need of Healing, Comfort, Prosperity and Peace.Angel

Evening all.

Not a whole lot going on around here. However, there has been some recent activity on the model railroading front...

So, today I completely killed my chances of going to that train show. I splurged on an unexpected trip to the LHS. I decided I'd go, mostly to look, and grabbed a few jars of paint. But then on my way to the register, I noticed a Athearn BB GP50 at a really good price, and just couldn't resist. There goes the money I was keeping for the show... Oh well, at least it was worth it!

Oh, and my IMW order came today. The shell is absolutely beautiful, real quality work. Can't wait to get it painted and decaled.

Well, I gotta go. Later!

I duct-taped it in place and we drove back home on the interstate (pics tomorrow). then when we got home we had to turn and burn to go to youth group, and then I ahd to get a shwoer, and now I have time to post. and tomorrow I have soccer reffing,t hen friday ngiht is a home football game.

Chris........I have a car right now in the basement, that was "heading" in the wrong direction.  I was adding graffiti, and it wasn't looking to good.  I added more "tags" and more "tags" on top of each other, and it looks much better.  Now most of the tags will be covered up with rust/grime.   But.............I have a car that ends up like that every once in awhile.

Garry.........I agree...Yuk!!!  They (bugs) even made the front page of the paper.  A lady at the LHS said that her daughter in Baltimore has them all over.   Its a battle I'm not winning!!

Jeffrey, get yourself to the Doctor!!!  What did you do to it this time?

I would if I could. I'm out of dr visits and an office visit is way beyond my financial means. Besides, from past experience all they'll do is strap the orthopedic boot on it and tell me to use the crutches outdoors. I've already been wearing the boot for some time as I can't walk without it. What did I do to it this time? I stepped on a brick this morning and I heard something go pop. Swelling came not long after.

Evenin' folks!

Flo, just a cup of decaf right now for me.

Garry, I'm going to the Large Scale Show in York, PA for a few days.  A friend of mine (Former music teacher - high school band) and I are going to the show.  His wife was supposed to go with him, but at the last minute found she had a mandatory meeting tomorrow afternoon and couldn't go this year.  He has been trying to get me to go to the show with the 2 of them for a couple years, and invited me along as he had already paid for everything.  Should be fun.  He is a G Scaler.  We may hit a couple hobby shops in the area as well, so I may come home with some new toys.  Except for going to Canada for a division meeting later in November, this will be as close to a vacation I will get this year.

Jeffrey, get yourself to the Doctor!!!  What did you do to it this time?

Barry, 39 again???  Happy B-Day a couple days early!!!  Hope it is a great day!

I am taking my laptop with me.  If I can get it to connect to the net, I will try to post some photos of the show.

Have a good one!

Hey Jeff, What kind of A/C compressor do you need? Reason is that I have a Jeep cherokee in the back, I was going to convert the A/C to compressed air, but if you want it, you can have it.

No compressor needed. The car has a new one. The problem seems to be a bad pop-off valve.

Gooooooooooooooooooooooood Evening, if THAT keg of fine German brew is still around, I'll take a draw or two off of it...might help with this week's case of writer's block!BeerBeer

JEFF: Sorry to hear about the foot...you'd best figure on getting it looked at.

GALAXY: Very sorry to hear about your friend...tough situation. Our best wishes to you, for her, and her family.

BARRY: A happy birthday to you...even if it is a bit early.

It's been a fairly busy week in the never ending pursuit of content for THAT Editor... I've got one article finished (volleyball from last night), three to put together, and one assignment to cover tomorrow evening (then put together); all to turn in Friday morning AFTER I cover a "Careers on Wheels" event at one of my elementary schools. Then, I've got another Football Friday Night (homecoming game) and a car show to cover on Saturday. An original Batmobile is slated to be at THAT...can't wait!Cool

I'm currently hung-up on writing about last Friday's POW/MIA Recognition Day event. Several of the same guys from last year were there...telling the same stories they did last year, albeit in a more abbreviated format. Well, except for the guy who spent 20 minutes saying practically nothing. I can't fault the guy though, when he bailed out over Germany, he lost most of his gear due to the high altitude, and landed essentially frozen. Another guy spoke of meeting the German pilot who shot down his bomber...guess he was a real gentleman to the bomber crew, going out of his way to find and meet the men. The guy who gave his Japanese captors chocolate Ex-Lax bars told his tale again...always a crowd pleaser. I don't think the kids (high school) really got it though...do they even still make chocolate Ex-Lax bars??? Or am I showing MY age of 41??? I talked with a Korean War vet who was taken by the Chinese, and managed to walk away during an artillery barrage. A Vietnam vet came (first timer) who was/is the longest-held from Iowa. Somehow, it's easier to describe the event to you guys than it is to write as a "news story." Bang HeadBang Head

I managed to take a few "sanity breaks" this week...mustering up the courage to perform surgery on a "vintage" Robins Rails boxcar kit. It's a PS-1 50-footer decorated for The Rock. By hacking up/filing down a Front Range/McKean/AccuRail plug door to fit, and replacing the Robins Rails ladders with Front Range parts, I am slowly assembling what will be the first CORRECT ex-Rock plug door for my fleet. For years, I've used the Athearn blue box Rock Island plugdoor and lived with the wrong door style. Finally... after 24 years, I've got ONE THAT is "right." Of course now, I'll have to find more of these kits...

Which reminds me, CUDA KEN: THAT Intermountain hopper of yours, looks like you're winning the battle! Thumbs UpI "think" they're supposed to be "higher end" kits since they have so many itty-bitty little parts THAT would make a preacher say bad words. But, they still have "foobies," and they still miss not-so-small things like making the data on a CNW hopper white when it oughta be yellow. Herald King Decals got it right, why couldn't Intermountain?? I had a heckuva time knocking one together a few years ago, started getting pre-builts when I could after THAT. Now, I've got two undecorated hoppers to build/paint/decal so as to replace two Athearn foobies. They 'taint too high on the priority list... At some point, I "need" to get at least a few of the round hoppers like yours, to round-out my CNW grain hopper fleet. I guess the preferred cliche' is "to add diversity" to my fleet.

ROBBY P: Nice job on the PRR boxcar, a rather subtle effect...probably right on target for THAT kinda thing. I was about to ask you for advice/help this weekend. I knocked together a Walthers BN grain hopper and the weathering job took a sudden turn toward CRAP. Then, it...magically, unexpectedly turned around and came out just fine! Don't know how, don't know why...it just did. The car was in grave danger of a dip into the brake fluid for a complete strip/repaint... and then it just... shaped up! You ever have THAT happen??? Nice shot of the CSX SD 50 or SD 60 you tacked up the other day too, by the way. I miss those old "Super Series" EMDs...

DER JOHN: Forgot to mention, I liked THAT shot you tacked up of the M&StL Alco on the Boone and Scenic Valley. Thumbs Up Also, kudos to you on the dust vent cyclone thing...Thumbs UpThumbs Up

Gotta get back at it... I'll grab a to-go bucket of coffee and be on my not-so-merry way...

Chris

Welb, I's be having an early birthday tomorrow--as it is actually on Friday--same day I go back on-call. So Audrey and I are heading out tomorrow to catch a movie and do dinner out. As well, I be having some work to do tomorrow on my layout--if I get the chance to do such.

Chloe, I'll have a coffee and a burger platter as well---I'll be at the window booth for now
