Hey all. Long time no see. I'll take a RBF and probably call it a night after that. Life's been pretty busy for me. The girls are doing well, the house remodel is moving along slowly, w**k has been kicking my tail, but its been lucrative. I've also been enjoying one of my other hobbies that only happens this time of the year, hunting. Overall, that's been kinda up and down, haven't seen any deer out on my property while I'm out there, but I know that they are active becase of the tracks, ect. Well, it was great for me to be stop in, I'm going to do my best to make it in here more often...I've missed the place!

Well Todd, that would be the first assumption of anyone who knows me, but.........
I've been sorta busy lately with life, ya know?
The wife and son are healed up pretty well from their surgeries. My son is doing better. The wife is a little slower going, but you know what they say about youth and healing.
Also, we've had a lady living with us for about a month or so. She was a battered wife (not a pretty scene at all......I helped remove her stitches) and so she left him. He want's nothing to do with her and has filed for divorce (nearly finalized already!.....he wanted OUT!), so reconciliation doesn't look likely. So, my wife and I have been working with her and several organizations to get her a fresh start in life. She's got a new job, is going back to college (Uncle Sam is footing the bill! Finally, our tax dollars at work for a good purpose!), has a new trailer to live in, and my wife and I have donated all new (well, some gently used, some new) furniture and appliances to get her started. It's been a busy month! She moved into the trailer on Monday and school starts in January.
Good morning. It's 31 and partly cloudy. The high will be around the mid 40's and it will continue to be partly cloudy.Yesterday I placed the new RBOX in a consist on the inner loop of my layout. There's nothing on the schedule for today except getting rest and keeping my feet up. I may be on again later. The news on the wound vac is that it should be here in a few days. Turns out that I had no choice on it at all. The doc ordered it so therefore it gets used. We'll see how it goes.

Keith - on Dec. 21st, we have less than 7 hrs. of daylight. The lack of daylight makes me depressive the older I get. I try to fight this by lighting up a lot of candles or, in the past, get the fireplace going. In the new flat, there is no fireplace I am looking for a substitute, but haven´t found one that does not cost any money. Well, let me tell ya.. lol. I actually looked up Nova Scotia.. Jeanne asked this morning.. "Where exactly is it?" I said I didn't know for sure.. but its above New England / Maine area.. its part of Canada.. and I think the only way you can almost get there is by sea/air/ and last choice by land (snow tractor) ... usually not in mid winter. Well, as Chris.. I think put it.. "Thats some Tale of a tale. But there's more to that story. (Happy Story) I have said in previous posts, I used to work as an Emergency Room X-ray tech. But .. well.. even before that.. I had worked as a Trauma X-ray tech for a good 4 1/2 yrs. It wasn't the nicest job.. the pay was good.. and I worked second shift mostly to allow my free time to spend during the day with the wife and two little babies..(21 months apart.. any closer.. and they're callled Irish Twins). But one day.. since I started at 3 P.M. I reported in for the trauma.. (they call the code.. and various teams respond).. is was a 'Near Drownding' as they put it. A child found in the pool. The mother called 911.. but still wanted to revive her son. She actually held the child up-side down.. and was shaking him.. to the point.. she was banging the child's head on the concrete.. and basically revived the child. So the young boy.. came in breathing.. but with head trauma's. lol.. After it was over.. I asked the Trauma Doc.. "So what gives.. what revived the child?".. "Was it the banging on the head?.. Was it the up-side down fashion.. moving the diaphram?" "Thats one way to get the water out..and sort breathe for the patient..".. I'm laughing.. the Doc' just looks at me.. and says.. "G.O.K." "God Only KNows" So, when all else failed on my daughters dog.. remember.. I had looked at Jeanne's eyes.. like.. "Its not working" .. that thing with the near drownding came to mind. The very last wave the dog catches.. he did it so correctly. I'll list a few..
1. The dog.. when first catching the wave.. maintained.. a low profile.(better balance).. as he goes from the top of the wave.. down to the base.
2. Then after clearing it.. and the dog is at the base of wave.. the dog then stands up on the back / hind legs applying weight to the back end of the board keeping the nose of the board up. The dog has learned to stall the board and to stay with the wave.
3. Then the dog moves its back legs forward.. as when this dog.. or anyone moves forward on the board.. the surfboard picks up speed. Yes.. if you want to go faster.. and faster.. you just move forward on the board. Then the dog moves his front paws forward.. speeding up.. then the back legs.. the dog has done.. waggin his tail.. and I think I saw it bark too!

As far my scedule.. its all messed up. Seems the kids in a real College.. are having difficulties.. with the papers due.. and studying for finals. So .. we've been helping them.. as mentors.. via emails. Plus, yesterday I had to take the Husky into the Vet. She's got some brownish stuff around her eyes. The vet said she isn't getting enough zinc ( red Meat) and Huskies can develope this eye thingy. So now..20 milligrams of zinc.. every day. This usually happens when Huskies are young.. or.. OR brought on by stress. WEll , my son going off to college.. she misses him.. and still .. sleeps in his bedroom.. Who'd ever guess?

Actually I believe he's correct. I've seen things on E-bay that look like something I've done and have a price much higher than Robby's. Kinda funny when you see what you get from Robby.
Here's some more pictures of the RBOX I did for Jeff. I kinda got away from "the bay". Just a bunch of stuff going double/triple what its worth. Now a few people are VERY good, and you get quality work from them. I haven't sold a car on eBays website in a few months. Thought about doing it again, but for what........ya know.
I'm just happy that Jeff let me do this for him, and that he's happy.
Robby: I'll probably be getting with you on a couple more in the coming year.
Jeff and Robby, that is a nice car. Wonder if the cost could be knocked down if I supplied the car? I'm not real fond of the newer RTR cars that seem to want to break if looked at wrong.
As for my own weathering, here are the ones I think came out best:
I managed to snag a bunch of cars recently, pics will be up on WPF tommorow. I also found a spray can in wal-mart that I think will make a good color for painting wheelsets.

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
Robby- Oh yes, I didn't mean to imply there weren't some good ones there. Real good. You included. But it's got to be disheartening to see some go for about the same if not a touch more than yours and they do look like a brown spray dust is what they've done. Same at some shows. They see people like you bringing decent money and they feel they should get it to because it's weathered. Which drives the price of the better ones up. That could be good or bad. Just depends. Kudos to you for keeping your prices reasonable when you were selling. Of course there's always the market and people going with the established names and not wanting to spend top dollar on someone new (well not NEW, but you know what I mean), E-bay costs etc.... I see why you sorta dropped it.

The spay paint I bought for wheelsets is really runny and doesn't want to stick to the wheelsets; however the color is good. The paint in question is krylon brown boots. Guess I'll try a rustoleum next time, they stuck better but I don't know if they have a color close to that.

I use a latex paint that I had color matched from Floquils 'Rust' color. It's an Olympic Premium flat latex, base 5. the mix numbers are 105-26, 107-2Y11.5, 115-35.5. I get it mixed a quart at a time at Lowe's. I can thin down as much or as little as I need for use in my airbrush. I sometimes get ridiculed by some out there for using latex paints but I consider them to be weak minds who feel they have to ridicule anything that threatens their little world or is something they completely fail to understand and don't want to take the time to find out about.
Jeff, never actually used latex paints, and i've never heard of them being used in airbrushes. How opaque is it and how well does it adhere to metal wheelsets? Also when used in airbrushes, what do you thin it with and by how much?

It's almost weather like Barry or some of our more northerly Diners would like today - heck, we're back up into the double digits on the wind chill now! Lemme check here - yep, 12 F wind chill! Heck, that's about like a heat wave to our NOTB friends, right? Gonna even hit 32 F today! (And then there's Vincent, rubbing it in with his temps!) Now, tonight it might get a bit cooler, but y'know... So in honor/honour of the heat wave we're having, I have chosen blue for my color du jour.
TMarshJim- Is it normal to think of expanding again, when you haven't even completed the one you're on?
Todd, you have just too much free time on your hands, I can see that - hope you survive all that spare time.
Keith, no problem on getting things figured out some - if you're not careful though, you'll have it all figured out before I even see your scans. I did some figuring on the dimensions for some of my buildings, too - of course, the fun part is, since my software was written by a guy in Germany, the editor (so far) only accepts metric measurements. Luckily, I have a conversion program also, so I punch in the 'English' measurements and calculate what they are in metric before switching over to enter them in the editor. Oh, yeah... Conversions were my least favorite part when we covered metric way back in school. I'd as soon measure in metric as have to do the conversions. About like converting fractional inch measurements into a decimal form. (Yeah, I'm rusty on some of the fractions, like 16ths, 32nds, or 64ths, and some days, even 8ths...)
Galaxy, good to hear your PT went well. Now, take better care of yourself this year. See if you can get (have somebody else pay for, if possible) one of those extended spectrum lights they sell for the seasonal kind of depression? Talk with your doc too, about whether meds need adjusting for the mid-winter season. And Just my , having (for a while in the past) dated a gal who had the seasonal kind. Her mood slipped in October or November and was down until about April. The further north you live, the longer the mid-winter season can last. And staying in touch with friends (including in here) is good, as well.
Alrightee, now - Jeff, that boxcar looks like it's been pulling its weight in hauling freight! As for that vac thing, if it were my place, yeah, the dust should be vaccuumed up, but I didn't think your place looked that dusty from your pics.

PC? Good to hear about your wife and son healing up. Your visiting friend's trailer hopefully has a good heater, with winter about here. Glad you were able to help her find most of what she needed.
Vincent, I kinda prefer solvent-based paints myself, but I do recall hearing that with acrylic/latex paints in an airbrush, the KEY thing to do is IMMEDIATELY after you finish spraying (whatever), wash that airbrush out completely, since acrylic and latex paints dry that much faster... On your spray can, have you tried backing off a bit more from the wheels/trucks to see if that helps? Not quite to the point where the paint dries before hitting them, of course.
Robby, your work (as usual for you) is EXCELLENT. Love my C&O covered hopper. Haven't got around to how to 'repair' the steps, but will be getting to that (maybe over my Christmas vacation?).

Jim: Everyone knows the joys of hanging Christmas lights around their house right? There is one fellow on another forum that has--or rather did have?--a dummy, which is supposed to represent such an one doing the decorating, placed in such a way that it was hanging on to the eavestrough of their house, complete with the ladder fallen over to the side. This apparently(?) had the police laughing but at the same time they were told that they had to take the decoration down because---well---it caused a minor series of accidents as people would rush to help the poor fellow---only to discover the fellow was a fake--
