Gooooooooooood morning.  Its a nice sunny day, and will be about 45deg today.

Well no snow for me, but a lot of rain.  I thought I might have to build a small "noahs ark".   It rained from 8:00pm, to about 6:30am.   If that was snow, man it would have been a mess.

Not to much planned today.  See what I can do to the layout.

Hope everybody has a good morning.

Edit............Seems like I have the top.  Let me get my check book out.

Good (Windy) Morning, Zoe - I'll have a chocolate donut and a Santa Fe mug ('tis the season for Santa, right? Wink) of coffee, please. Thanks!

howmus

Interesting......  The Weather Chanel map for Geneva says it has been snowing for the last hour......  According to the "look outside the window" method of telling what is going on, not even a flake has appeared.........

Hmmmmmmmm?????

Ray, I don't know about in your area, but Cape's airport (and 'official' weather reporting station that isn't with a TV station) is actually located about 10-12 miles south of most of the city. If your airport or other official weather station (that Weather Channel likely gets its info from) is at the other side of town (or of the county...), that might be part of it. Or not...Whistling

Rob, hope things stabilize soon with the in-laws' situation and you and your wife can get to your doctors.

Ulrich - yeah, that was one big drawback I had about that coffee table layout, too. I think the one I saw was that 30-year-ago one. Probably missed the more recent one. You're about as tall as my 'big brother' Mike (I'm *only* 6'3" myself). I'd say on Petra, it might be worthwhile just to (subtly) butter her up (but not as much as to arouse her suspicion) over the next several weeks/months as you try to set back funds for benchwork and other needed MRR supplies. Wink

Currently, lots o'wind here (22 mph to gusts of 40 mph), which turns the air temp of 32 F (yeah, you metric folks know what that is...) into a wind chill of 19 F (-7 C). No precip. coming down, and I'll just be thankful for that much, after seeing silly Dave in Minnesota this morning on the TV. Our temp is gonna slide downhill to about 20 F tonight. Yep, winter is knockin' on the door... Wink

Barry(and others)'s comment is about right - stay inside as much as possible, and stay warm today.

Jeff, did you get any big cooling off from this system down there yet?

[Edit] Good Morning, Bill T. - nice photo of that tower there (and good to see you in the Diner again)! Thumbs Up

I'll grab a seat at the window booth and check out the morning local for a while.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Mornin' Bill!

Mornin' everyone else that has ventured out into the wilds just to get a good cup of coffee.....

The white stuff just stayed up in the sky last night.  Until I went to bed, that is.  We have about 3" of partly cloudy on the lawn and driveway this morning.  Local DPW has been out in full force pushing it out of the road and into our driveways.  Weather guessers say it will be all melted by mid afternoon just in time to make everything very slippery when the backside of the storms swings back around with some very cold temps. and some freezing rain and snow flurries......  Sounds like a good evening to pack boxes for my church's shutin's and have a party.............Sigh

Lee sometimes windows works better.....   OMG!  I don't believe I just said that..... (being a Mac user!)  OK, start over.  Sometimes oldfashioned windows w**k better than the Micr$oft Windoz......  Yep!  Thats better. Whistling

"We're Havin' a Heatwave........."

Barry, wind and dull can be nice, comparatively speaking. Whistling

Ah, my coffee is here.  I'll be in the back by the stove.

Good morning. Today I'm reminded of Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day. We did not however receive any snow for which I'm thankful. Today: A chance of snow showers before noon, then a chance for flurries. Cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 17 by 5pm. Wind chill values between -1 and 9. Windy, with a west wind between 25 and 32 mph, with gusts as high as 50 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%.Tonight: Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 7. Wind chill values between -2 and -11. Breezy, with a west wind between 16 and 24 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph.

Resting up for a busy night tonight. The owner has overbooked the restaurant for 2 parties 1 hour apart. Got rained out on the tractor yesterday, made only 4 passes then striped the tires, so done there. Spent the next hour with a bar trying to get the gooey sticky mud from between the duals. Got a call about Mom, she fell and is in the hospital with a gash on the back of here head and a broken Clavicle. They say she had something that sounded like Erratic Arythmia (sp)Question that caused her to pass out for a split second just long enough to start to fall but too long to be able to catch herself. She claims she didn't pass out because she remembers everything. She says for some reason she just fell down. They've got her heart regulated now and are keeping her to do some more tests. With me having to pick up the days for the kid at the restaurant this week, the trying to scramble and get the fields tilled, the normal stuff to do and now Mom. Whew! Gonna be hectic at the drop of a hat around hear. Not complaining, of course, we've all been there or will be.

Keith- As a dog lover I'm thinking right about now you're a hero. And I'm sure you are to your daughter especially. Thanks for not treating your little four legged family member who has a more efficient way to walk......,like a dog.

Ulrich- LaughSome things are the same no matter what country you live inLaugh. Petra probably already knows your planEvil and is just waiting for the right "price", shall we, say for this valuable piece of Real Estate!Laugh

Jeff- sounds like you may be packing a vacuum cleaner around for awhile. But if it works, it'll be worth it. Is the wound opening on the bottom of your foot? If so from what I've read, and that isn't much at all, that could keep you off your feet for quite a while. No?

Jim- Is it normal to think of expanding again, when you haven't even completed the one you're on? Whistling

Boy is it windy!!!!

Say guys and gals. Let me give a shameless plug to these companies like Lifeline or Life Alert or others whatever they may be called. That is the greatest thing going for an elderly or disabled, or even someone with health problems who may not be an elderly person who is frequently alone for lengths of time. As long as they are conscious, help is only a button punch away. My Mother has used the thing many times and the results are fantastic. Quick service and they even notify family or friends, whoever you put on the notify list. If you know someone who could benefit from this, please don't hesitate to talk about it. It saved my Mother from laying on the floor for who knows how long several times. She never walks acroos the room without it on her neck. She loves it. Says she doesn't feel alone.

Have a Great Day!!!

The wounds on the bottom are healed. Only one left is on the side.

It's 52 here this morning. The expected high is 55 and it'll be partly cloudy.

"Hi~ Chloe.. coffee please."  "In fact I'll have the 'Jim Special'  Coffee and a donut .. thanks"

Now if that pic doesn't make you want to go and get a cup..and a donut.. nothing will.    Now getting back to the soldering gun/too/iron... I got one.  Yep, a Weller..  Hand held.. battery operatated.. LED light and low wattage.. but with two tempature settings.  It says goes up to 950 degrees.  And .. and under 19 dollars. Pic? oh yeah.. I got that~100_0539.jpg picture by Blazzin55

Weller.. hand held... batteries included .. LED 8-11 watts.  goes up 950 degrees and heats up in 15 secs.  The solder is a 60/40 ratio.. which is called by the way.. Electrical solder .. as oppose to the plummer's solder.  I got my extra screws.. to finish the final 'Re-inforcing' of the vertical spares.. that Phillip mentioned.  In truth.. I've been avoiding that part .. but I'm almost done.. and I do like to do it right. Oh.. and I picked up some Rosin.. to help the solder flow into the joints.. I also get the idea.. you'll see that stuff bubble up first before you the solder melts.  And last but hardly from least.. some guy at Home Depot was going around with a cart.. with all kinds of stuff in it.. and says.. "You need some batteries?"   "Ten Bucks for 60 AA"  I said.. "Sure.. give me a dozen.. lol" great buy.. and I was looking for batteries.  I keep waiting for Home Depot bells and whistles to go off.. saying .. "Congraduations sir.. You've spent 10,o00 bucks here.. apply for your HD credit card and save more~!"  So concerning the 'On going .. Continuing Saga Of"  Soldering.. that all I have to report.

Now on a different note, Jim.. lol.. I want you to know.. 'I'm working on it'.. and to bother you.. is like using up magic wishes.  I wish to make the most of them... but I think I'll have something for you later on.. perhaps late night tonight.  No, I'm not doing soldering.. but actual mapping of the buildings.. and exactly how much space is available.  I'm at that point, where I am taping down the ties with painters tape .. to hold everything in place.. for the 'proposed' buildings.. as well as the main lines running through the terminal.  I can tell you this much,  I have taken on very large projects .. very large .. but this Model RR'ing is more than what I thought it would be.

Jeff, my friend .. at times.. it may seem like a long road to recovery.. but in the end .. it is recovery.. and you will recover from all this.  I sometimes go on.. about how common diabetes is.  At age 40.. its a 1 in 11 people will develope it..  at age 50 its 1 in 7.  How does that compare with other illnesses.  Chron's.. 1 in 50,000.. appendicitus.. 1 in like 13 thousand.  Something common ?   Congentinal gentinal birth defect?  1 in 200.  A baby getting baby shot.. getting Autism.. well that number is dropping.. 1 in 150.. and getting closer to 100.. no wonder new mothers are concerned with 'baby shots'.  But I am getting at.. Diabetes is very common.. doctors are well informed on it.. and you will recover.. that road may seem long at times.. but you will recover.  We're all with you on this.  Now.. on a different note.. Jeanne went out and sent you your Christmas present.. lol.. yeah .. you others out don't rate that high I guess. .. lol.  She sent it 'priority mail' .. so it might get there in 3 days.  We both agree.. open it up.. but the one in the center.. wrapped in X mas paper .. is a 'Don't open til Christmas'  Take care all of you.. Keith and Jeanne.

Oh, on the next Diner Move.. maybe we can post of pic of us.. wishing one another Happy Holidays.  So I plan on posting some Holiday Greetings from Keith and Jeanne.  yup.. you'll see a pic.. of the 'Amazing.. incredible, radiant Jeanne!.. on the Next move of the diner.  Now where's my coffee and donut.. its only a few  minutes past 8 am.

Good Morning All,

Todd - gotcha weadah roight hea pal ! What was predicted as a light dusting turned into 4" of s..w and has now turned to rain. Caught the highway depts off guard as well so driving to the shop was entertaining this morning through the piled up slush covering pack ice.

Spent the last evening fitting and curving the resin stone walls to the station we made for the O gage layout at the museum. Need to spend some time this evenign with the band saw an belt sander doing final fitment and the paint. If I ever remember my camera, I'll take some shots though it's all pretty toylike as you'd expect with 3 rail O.

Jeff - I think patience might be the better course in your case. Hoovering up your foot sounds like a low percentage deal.

Ulrich - they said to practice using the computer, they didn't say what you had to do.Big Smile. Love it when the curiculum has you "learning" what you already have mastered.

Shop is up and running now so I'd best get after it. Not sure how many of the guys will show today and I have my two flyins arriving as well. Catch y'all later, J.R.

Snow Alert:

Wisconsin got 15” so far today and is under a state of emergency. The SOO is getting pummeled as well but holding their own.  Everything is heading towards Barry and I.  Hopefully between the two of us we can funnel it to the Finger Lakes and get it out of here.

Hey ya'll. Donut and hot cocoa for me.

Well our cold spell is over and it's back in the 70s around here. I'm just sitting in class waiting for the clock to hit 11:45 (I finished all the work for this class; 4 weeks ago). After this I have to run down to napa to pick up my new clutch cable (Carquest ordered a Speedometer cable, Orielly's had one that was crimped wrong so it wouldn't work).

I was looking around hor metal wheelsets for my fleet and found out MB Klien has the best prices. Only issue is, I don't know wheter I should get Bachmann or P2K wheelsets, MB kilen has 12-packs of both for $6 each which was the best deall I could find. I have P2Ks in lots of my cars, but it looks like Bachmanns has a metal axle which may be better. Only thing is I have 1 car with bachmanns, and I have never tried it in Athearn or MDC (most of my rolling stock is the older kits) trucks.

Jim and Barry: Or move to Florida. It's in the 70s here, after a few weeks of being in the 30s and 40s

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good afternoon guys!

A salad with honeymustard dressing please... need to drop some pounds.

Well, we got our 3-5 " of s sn sno snow {It's hard to say 4 letter words} alright. Has to be 3" inches afore they bring out the plows around here, and they brought them out. Heavy wet stuff. My other half shoveled out half the drivewway and the car to go to work, leaving "my half" of the driveway and van. It was suggested I call and cancel PT in light of the snow, but I said now is the time to go....after shovelling snow. TG we have a small short driveway! I shoveled by the "shovel 6 shovel fulls, then take a break and sit for a few mins, rinse and repeat" method.

I hope the MMR sapce with the house convering it we buy has a short driveway too. ANd a snow blower.

PT for my back was great loosened it up for awhile. Since I shoveled snow this am, they didn't amke me do the machines. Standing line a KMArt with Xmas presents though...straining on the back- due to waiting lol.

Now is the begins the time of year taht my seasonal deep depression starts to hit. If it werent for food and Drs. visits I wouldnt even go out of the house. Haven't put up the tree yet {it always gets left to me to do} and don't know if I will. Part of the depression. Last year at this time I was just getting out of the Psychiatric ward of the hospital having my meds adjusted cuz I went on a drinking binge {vodka is dangerous to me} and decided to take all my pills that were controlled substances at once. Mix up a little cocktail of barbiturates, codeine, sleeping pills and a few other things etc., yep I did. Bad scene until I told my other half "you better take me in". I went in voluntarily, but they commited me anyway, considering me a danger to myself as I was obviously suicidal with attempt. Did i just bore you with all that? A stroll down amnesia lane.

JEFF take care of that leg, you want ot be able to get around for  awhile.

Well guys, take care. have a great evening!

*grumble grumble grumble* Good afternoon everybody... Chloe? A bucket of coffee please, extra-strong...maybe toss in a second boot.

Well, we got our s sn sno snow...hey GALAXY, you're right, THAT is a hard word to say. Now we're waiting for the blow. 21 counties in western Iowa have closed roads due to IDOT pulling the plows off. The wind hasn't been bad here in greater metropolitan Clarence (population 800), but Hwy. 30 is still "travel not advised." Good thing the wife gets a snow day when the community college she works at closes. Good thing I've got the job I've got. In the past, with other jobs, I've called-in to say "I can't get there" only to get a lot of hemming and hawwing... I guess I valued my life, limbs, and property more than they did. Screw 'em. If it ain't safe, I ain't going. HMMMPH! And THAT is THAT!!!Pirate

GALAXY: Man, for whatever it's worth (and my opinion is valued at about a half-cent), I understand completely where you're coming from. My mood has been going into the toilet deeper and deeper the more the s sn sno snnooooooooow snow piles up. I've been darn close to where you were, so see all too well just how easy it is. That's why you need to hang out here as often as possible. This group IS "group therapy," regardless of the "ill," and cheaper than any pill. Hey, THAT rhymes... by gosh and by golly. Maybe I'm a writer after-all...or perhaps it is all folly. Drat! I've done it again!!!

Banged HeadBanged HeadBanged Head

JEFF: Neato RailBox you got there...

I've got major writer's block on the stuff I need to finish for THAT. Part of it is...I just don't wanna. Part of it is...I'm just not sure how to present it. I suspect our roads will still be treacherous tomorrow, so haven't lined-up any interviews. THAT won't be happy about THAT...but she's still getting four articles on Friday. THAT kinda ticked me off the other day. Apparently, the Iowa Newspaper Association judges have finished judging the contest entries, and sent-out award letters. I had two photos THAT won something...won't know if they took first, second, or third place until the award show in February. I'm not even sure what photos won. Confused THAT was very congratulatory about THAT...then went on a tirade about how we didn't win in some other catagories. She felt slighted. I guess her ego needs THAT pat on the back from her peers. I didn't think what we sent in was all THAT good to begin with...so I wasn't surprised it didn't win. I wanted to only send in my absolute best...she wanted and took a shotgun or "carpet bombing" approach. Somedays, I just wanna slap THAT....but THAT would be detrimental to my career.

*sigh*

Think I'll step out the back door of the Diner for a "puff puff" then settle in at the RC with this fine, hot bucket of boot coffee...

*grumble grumble grumble*

Evening all. Zoe, I'll take some hot chocolate and a cheesesteak, thanks.

Got my chem lab done today, even though it's not due till Monday. Takes some stress off the weekend. And just got back in from shoveling the driveway. It's wet, and that means its heavy.
Practice for tonight is cancelled, so that makes it a little easier.

Hello--

Galaxy:-AngelAngel

We got the winds blowing now---we also got away with no snow or rain or----we just got the wind---a window in our kitchen just gets into moanin' minnie' mode when the wind blows from the west----

"and that wind sure blows cold way out there---"

I also got the Xmas tree up and started to get the decorations on the tree to do---that after fighting with the lights------neighbour down the street put up the lights on his house---in the wind---but he did it a little differently----he has a neighbour beside him who has a MAJOR LIGHT SHOW on his house---so what does this guy do?---

His house features a string of blue LEDs----with the word "DITTO" and an arrow pointing towards the neighbour's MAJOR LIGHTSHOW----Big Smile

Chloe, I'll just have a coffee for now please----I'll be at the fireplace warming up--

Hang in there, and wind up the semester, Sawyer! Yeah!!

The real kicker is the semester doesn't end until Jan. 12, but they give us the exams before Christmas so we don't have to worry abt. them over the break.

Nother day of school today. 2 days left until the weekend. SAMS club is meeting on Friday though, so should have a great Friday, lol.

Evenin' folks!

Just a cup of decafe, Zoe, I will be going to our annual Deacons Party after the meeting tonight.  I have spent the entire day on w**k for the board of Deacons as there will be elections tonight.  One of our members who has been treasurer wasn't listed on the current listing of the board.  I went to look it up and the last time his name was listed was with the class of 2008 (term is up as of the 1st of each year).  I have made all kinds of phone calls to the pastors and the secretary and to the person trying to sort out the whole situation.  I was planning on him staying in the position of treasurer for one more year (I thought both he and I were class of 2011...)  He decided to use next year as his year off the board, and i will push nominations to get him back on the board the following year.  Ah, the fun of being the moderator..........  (aka: chairman).

No modeling done again today.  Haven't even put away the equipment from the Meet last Saturday.

May have a bit of "Lake Effect" sn*w tonight.  Could have as much as 2 to 4" of it overnight.  Lucky it isn't expected to kick in until the wee hours.

Have a good evening, and stay warm!

Barry: We always get our tree this upcoming Saturday, which is also the same day as the Tri-State Railway Historical Society (absolutely no connection to the TSRy) Santa Train. And this year, they're also doing a Toys For Tots train.
And that's great about the blue LED message! lol

Sawyer: The semester ends for us something like the last week in January, which is also the same week as exams. And teachers usually give us our research papers before break, so that's what we do...
And I had a snow day today! So only 2 more days Big Smile

Ray: We're done with the snow, I think (at least till next week!).

So glad we didn't have practice tonight. If we did, I'd just be getting off the ice now!

Latah...

Big Smile
I have the rest of this week, all of next week, two full days, and then 11:30 dismissal.
Exams are the week of January 18. Monday is reading day (optional, extra help), Tue-Thu are exams (2 per day), and Friday is make-ups (only if you need them; if not, it's a day off).

And then the week after exams is Catholic Schools Week... Great...
Actually, it's not that bad, since we don't really do much for it. Back in the days before HS, there were all kinds of dumb "celebrations"...

Good evening folks: A hot chocolate and a whole grain blueberry muffin heated, with butter please and thank you, Cloe. As you'll se this has been building for a few days now...so here goes:

Ulrich:  How are your parents doing? 9 weeks of classes of questionable value; that seems a huge waste of every-ones time - except the instructors of course - keeps them off the streets! Clown

Keith - on Dec. 21st, we have less than 7 hrs. of daylight. The lack of daylight makes me depressive the older I get. I try to fight this by lighting up a lot of candles or, in the past, get the fireplace going. In the new flat, there is no fireplace  I am looking for a substitute, but haven´t found one that does not cost any money.
...Just after you posted that, our flyers came...and in one hardware store offering were these. I'm wondering if you have anything like that in your area; or maybe on eBay?
I am still in the needs for good arguments to get Petra´s approval ...
...one thought on that. How good would you be at making the finish on the layout shelf (and the other stored sections perhaps) "furniture quality"?  If the permanent part of the layout looks like it's part of the décor; no wiring showing beneath the layout, etc., much kudos may be gained. My 2 cents

Todd:

Not for sound or all that stuff but for ease of having several trains on the tracks but only one running without figuring how to get one from point A to point B without another loco starting up.
...that's why I'm in DCC! Also, it is good to be able to run more than one train at a time (max for me so far is three) without having to be dashing everywhere throwing toggle switches! I also like to see locos just waiting , but with their lights on.Thumbs Up

Keith:

But it's like Linda said.."Listen .. if you really love your dog.. you'll get down there and do what you have to~ "
...not to get too theological about it, but that's pretty much the Christmas story isn't it?Smile,Wink, & Grin

JR:

Ulrich - they said to practice using the computer, they didn't say what you had to do. . Love it when the curiculum has you "learning" what you already have mastered.
...yup, BTDT...I tend nowadays to ask a question that shows I know a) that I know what I'm talking about, and b) that I don't need the *&^%$#@! class. Pirate

Rob:

Have a great day, all. And if anyone has some new layout pics to post, I would enjoy seeing them.
...well, the yard tracks came away in one piece, as I had hoped. I used a spare length of refrigerator box from the Hysterical Society Santa Parade float as a "backboard".Laugh.  Then I laid out the double sided tapebetween the inked markings where the tracks had been,   and slid the tracks back onto the layout. Tweezers were the weapon of choice to grab the tape backing paper away from under the tracks, starting at the throat, and working along the back of the yard, and coming forward. How "sweet it was" when the first cut of cars reversed  through the most complex part of the ladder with not a hiccup or gremlin! YES! Now to get the feeders replaced, and new ones provided for the extra tracks.

Galaxy: On the seasonal depression thing (and thanks for telling us about your close call last year - I'm not ignoring it, just not dwelling on it either Smile) I'd say bite the bullet and put the tree up although you don't feel like it. I find when I'm depressed and have some task or other that I'm completely blah about, "just doing it" generally gets my mind off the depression; and the more complicated I can make the operation, the more effective that is!My 2 cents

On those Rail Inspection Car photos, they are in a Photobucket album that subbed to a Private one. Now, I can't find how to change the Private to Public setting.Dunce Any help with that by those who know would be appreciated, thanks.

An early start this morning, and a planned campaign through the stores (even a quick once over of the second-best LHS, but no used N built-ups to be seenSad) saw us on the road back home at an unprecedented 2:50 p.m.  So we were back well before the storm (not the one under discussion today, we get that later!) hit. Snow on my walk after dinner, and a "fair breeze of wind, my son" to accompany it. Coming in to the wood stove's warmth sure was good!  It's turned, as forecast, to rain now; and we hope the roads over the mountain (hills really, the remains of mountains of which the Appalachians are the southerly extension) will be clear by the time we head for New Glasgow tomorrow after lunch. (another no mrr dayBanged Head) Now it's bedtime again, so Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers continuing for all in need of healing, comfort, prosperity and peace.Angel

Well, with wind chill it's going to feel like well below zero by morning.

Time to get the motorcycle out for a ride!

Now, where's my shorts?

Philip!!!

Good to see you!  Man after my own heart.  Wanna go camping somewhere out in the southern tier of NY in Mid January???   You can probably get all your gear on the bike, but I'll have to use the Yaris I guess.

Got home from the Deacons Party after filling bags with goodies for those members who are in in Nursing Homes or just can't get out to church anymore, along with several other people in the community who could use a Howdy we're thinking about you from the church.  Lots of tasty (think high calorie) stuff to consume and some good chat.  I got railroaded again.......  We had our election of officers for next year.  As I started that part of the meeting I looked around the room to see almost all the faces were staring at me and looking a bit nervous.  I announced with their blessing I would be willing to stay as Moderator (committee chair, Presbyterian version) for one more year (I have to take a year off the board at that time).  There was an audible "Whew!" throughout the room.  Either they are glad I am staying in the position or they were terrified they might have to take it.....Whistling  We elected a new Treasurer tonight ending the saga of my day.  The person we elected wasn't there.  That'll teach her!  I need to send her an email before I turn in for the night.

Hope you all have a great evening!
