One heck of a day here!!   Hey who turned the pot off ?????

Sure a good thing I like cold coffee!  Had a false alarm this morning, a a company I have been used managing a retirement plan had a key executive leave.  Abruptly last week, a number of account in a state of chaos, finally resolved it that ours was not involved.  WHEW!!!!

The switches I ordered came in, so went to pick them up.  Late start and got caught in east bound afternoon traffic.  Over 2 hours to get to the "LHS", but made it and he had everything correct.  So if I planned it right, have all the track and switches necessary.  Got the "carpeting" that I'm using on order, it will be here possibly Fri., NLT Tue.  So we're about ready to go.

Going to do a dry run and lay all the track  out and fit the pieces in the next day or so.

Roy sounds like me your working too hard!

Obviously, the Chief just doesn't understand the way of things here in the west.  When there is a full moon things are extremely stable.  So I'm off for a good nights rest.

Great day all.

(I left some in the pot incase anyway is up all night worrying about revenue and stuff.)

The Depated was a great movie, watched it twice since it's been on cable, the end was the best part. Made you feel good when he got it. Rumor on the web is a sequel is coming out. Based on a Japanese movie "Internal Affiars"

Well I decided I'm ripping down the layout and building a new one. Current one got small real quick. Might start next month. Have to make room in the spot where it's gonna go. Decided it's gonna by 6ft by 6ft. Trying to decide on what part of the country I want to base it on diffenitly east coast. Might use the eastern part of Pa. I like the coal field look. Dark and dirty looking.

Brent,

Never buy a car made by the master race, here in UK they (BMW-Mercedes) are not very reliable, treat the customer as if they are idiots, charge through the roof, do a crap job, make you wait, tell you nothing and are generally unhelpful. Honda and Lexus have scored tops in driver satisfaction surveys for many years. Soon be needing new boots for my little bus, a real pain comparing prices, suppose I'll get them just before I find a set 10% less, Ho-Hum!Sigh [sigh]

Finally got rid of all my analogue audio/visual stuff and am now fully digitaised. Hope this was a wise move?Question [?]

Re-arranged the furniture in the lounge and now have a 6ftx4ft area available, so here goes; Ashlar & Spen Valley RR is going to rise as soon as I get the electrical gizmos, am ordering today.Whistling [:-^]

I came close to death a few years ago and was praying for release from the pain. Then I thought "If I die? It'll please those Jerks that don't like me", so I determined (with the help of a brilliant surgeon) to recover. Just to annoy them!  don't know wether this will help?

Good morning everyone. Back to riding to work in darkness...The summer is coming to an end.

On the way to work this morning, I saw a trainboard by the curb with someone's trash. It had mountains and roads, etc. HO scale though. I thought about getting it for the kids, but it's more fun to build your own.

Who here reads the Crankshaft comic strip? I do, but sometimes feel like the character Kiesterman. He's the one who is always having to replace his mailboxes. My A-hole neighbor has been hitting my mail box for years and never once offered to replace it. I've gotten so I don't even buy new poles any more. I just fix the broken one with 1x4s. Last night I replaced yet another mailbox with the able help of my three young assistants. So we now have a new, white mailbox. Let's see how long this one lasts! There mailbox post is granite. I wonder why!

Speaking of mail - we have a new mailman. He's taken to leaving packages in front of my garage door. Not the best place to leave a package! Yesterday I politely asked him to stop doing that because sooner or later, I'm not going to see one and run it over.

Did I mention that I picked up a post war 6464-475 B&M car the other day? It was pretty scratched up, and some of the lettering was gone. I've been polishing out the scratches and filled in the missing letters and numbers with a pen. It's looking much better!

Next up is to Dremel off the rust from the wheels. Not a bad car for $7!

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a foggy 62 degrees, Sun is trying to come thru. Going up to 88 today, with sunshine all day.

Today is a busy day. I have to drive up to Cambridge for the weekly grocery shopping. Dropping wife off at Doctor's office. Her Niece has an appointment, and wants Wife's company. Seems there may be a problem with Niece's latest physical. Hope not.

Coffee was good this morning. Thanks,  Doug.

No time for trains today. I wish there was. Need some relaxing time.

Dining Car has rolled in and it's time for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 90s again.  I watched the boys' soccer team sweat out (literally!) a 1-1 tie last night.  The field was so dry it was like playing on concrete.  It was also smaller than usual as their corner kicks went past the far post instead of landing in front of the goal.  I also visited my old boss at the factory.  Strange that it has only been four years since the decision was made to close the place.  Ironically, the entrances to it are now closed due to road work construction for the new Honda plant.  I had a big cinnamon roll and cereal on the dining car this morning as it arrived from "Points East".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

'morning!

Jimmy:  Brick up that mailbox.  He'll only hit it once!

Brent:  Bummer on the Bimmer.

Went to the zoo yesterday with my girls!  Tigers in new exhibit.  One sat 5-feet in front of us, and the other one stalked the first, and POUNCE!  They both reared up and had a bit of a tussle, with some roaring!  Right in front of us!  Very cool.  First time we were ther and everyone wasn't sleeping.

Getting ready for vacation next week.  Busy, Busy, Busy....

Roy, I'm good, but I'm not that good.  When you build your house in the middle of a swamp, sometimes known as North Carolina, floating on old 55 gallon drums seems to be the best solution.

Good morning from Roger's Corners, Ohio.  As I peek out from under the bridge, it looks like we have partly cloudy skies, but no rain in sight. YEA!!! Going to mow the yard today.

If Grzyboski bought all those trains at approximately 60 cents on the dollar, I see some real deals for you guys going to York.

Locomutt, if you are going fishing in the Chief's pond, bring a rifle.  That, and dynamite is all he uses down at the pond.

Watched Casino Royal last night.  Good movie with an actual story line, unlike past James Bond movies.

HEY you must live nearer to me than you admit!  We have lived in the new house for less than 2 months and I've already had to replace my mailbox and post twice!  Next time it gets replaced with brick... next door neighbor's kid likes to back out of the driveway and hasn't figured out that we live on a CUL-D-SAC and he can back straight out and then turn around... or just turn around in our shared 600ft long driveway, his father even added on to their side by putting in a connector from their pad to the driveway (about 60 ft long 'half-moon'). Banged Head [banghead] I spoke with his Dad and told him I was going to put in a brick mailbox next... he turned white and said he would speak with his son... has been 3 weeks since the last mishap so maybe it has worked...

AND you must have the SAME mailman... I have a covered porch and the *** can't walk 50 feet to my front door and put my packages on the porch... Angry [:(!]Banged Head [banghead] He left my K-Line Napa Valley Wine Train set on my walkway while I was out-of-town three weekends ago... sat there for over 24 hours with a 60% chance of rain.  The post-master wasn't too happy when I called that Monday and complained... he said he would speak with our mailman... so the other day I find a box jammed into my mailbox! Banged Head [banghead]

----
I think I have solved the Bimmer mystery... I'll let you know how things go tonight at the tire shop...

----
Started painting the shed last night... I am putting some sealer/primmer on the bottom 18 inches to help with water control... have 1/2 of it done.  Then I'll hang the trim and use the sprayer to paint the walls (have to remember to put paper over the windows first and tape off the hinges)...

----
CSXT - if you send me the dimensions, what you are looking for, accessories, etc I can see if I can come up with something in RR-Track... would also need to know the track system and minimum/maximum curve radii.

----
Chief - that is why I like wells.  I have two of them.  1 for the outside faucets, and 1 for the house.  The outside faucets well was too slow for the whole house so the old owners had the new well installed.  Works great!  Our water bill = $0.00/month, no chemicals in our water, no flourine (bad for you), no chlorine (bad for you), etc.  Water is like drinking pure mountain stream water!  The house is twice the size of our old house and the electric bill is about the same, house is 3 times the size of my rental property in Pittsburgh and our electric bill is 2/3 their electric bill!

Speaking of electric... I have often wondered why large buildings do not have solar panels installed on their roofs.  The solar panels absorb the Sun's rays and keep the building cooler while also generating electricity.  Also have wondered why most parking lots do not have solar panels on their light standards or why large covered areas aren't covered with solar panels... it seems to me that if they were to do this the cost of solar panels would drop and the use of fossil fuels to generate electricity would drop as well... and therefore the price of electricity would go down... But hey, who am I?  In PA they want to cut down trees in the State Parks to build wind turbines... but there is all that prime roof-top space in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Erie, State College, Washington, Scranton-Wilksbarre, Allentown, York, Lancaster, et al the other towns that could have solar panels on their roofs... Sigh [sigh]

Good morning all,

Bright sun heading to hi 80s,sct./t.showers later.

Brent, solar panals would help all of us save, but you know  we would never get any of the money saved.big shots need their bonus's.

Nothing going on at the train store, no big shipment list, maybe lots of  stuff will arrive all at once. electrician is coming today, I hope he can find and repair the damage.

One of the big shipping companies did exactly that, Brent. Either FedEx or UPS installed thousands of solar panels on their roof and those panels generate so much electricity, that the shipper actually sells some of it to the power grid in that area. I'm very much in favor of solar power.

I got to thinking about this during a fire drill a few weeks ago.  The SSA has a HUGE complex here in Balitmore with very large surface parking lot.  If they were to install solar panels on the roofs, and just over the concrete islands in the parking lots, they would generate an immense amount of power... think of the savings to us taxpayers!

Good morning from a sunny and mild Chicago where it seems everyone is on vacation. I'll start another pot...

Brent, the Gryzbowski (sp) purchase is mentioned in another thread - long-time CTT advertiser paid something like $680K for three semi-trailers full of trains.  BTW, I'm told the capital outlay for solar panels like are being discussed vs. the recapture of costs is still pretty unbalanced.

Don, how can the LHS be 2 hours away - wow, that's some traffic!

Go, John Baker, go! Build that new layout. The best thing I ever did when I had no space was make a portable layout that I could fold up and slide behind the couch. It was a pain to set-up and tear-down but it was a layout!

...Speaking of mailboxes, a few years back I won a small victory against 'bashers' by replacing mine with a solid steel pole based in 3 ft of concrete. It looked like a upside-down capital L.  One morning, I found a pristine mailbox admist a broken baseball bat and a ton of automobile glass. I can imagine it hitting the immovable object and smacking back into the car. Bwahahahaha!

Just finished writing a review of a wargame covering WW1 in the Middle East - not bad design.

Doug... I saw that after I posted (long winded post) to Buckeye! LOL!  The government really doesn't care how much they spend on anything, but the benefit to the tax payers would come in the form of lower cost solar panels due to the higher demand and thus lower production costs.  It wouldn't be overnight, but after a few years the cost would drop by at least 50% (BP Solar is here in MD and I've been in contact with them and some local representatives)... I suggested to the reps that they institute a rebate, or low interest financing, for those that install solar panels (since the money would go to BP Solar and then they would need to higher more workers, etc)... the one rep was quite impressed with how much research and thought analysis I had done... he actually said I should run for office!  LOL!  YEAH RIGHT!

But really... to reap the benefits of solar/wind you have to really greenerize your house.  You need to install instant hot water heaters, go all electric (no natural gas), wood burning stove/insert/fireplace, make sure you have uptodate furnance and appliances, and use those flouresant bulbs.  If you buy your house, greenerize it, and live in it for more than 20 years you will actually save more than you spent on the whole greenerization...

Good points, Brent. We've had those little curly flourescents (sp) for years now. Makes quite a difference. Now if I only had rechargable-battery-powered trains...

Hey, our solar-powered coffee urn isn't hot enough!

Nice shot, John. It works.

cnw please don't mention rechargeable batteries, my "M" engines drive me crazy. I am using BCRs when the batt's stop working but it's still a pain kind of low down.   I like the curly bulbs but they won't fit everywhere.I'm using 10 of them around the house.

Locomutt, better be careful as folks might slip and fall in. Wink [;)]

Got dropdown tracks down and pushed cars over it with it up.  Works great so far. Approve [^]

Now for some coffee and then wiring.

Later.

I'll be sure to wear my cleats and hope nobody pushes me.

Be careful with the wiring, it could be an "electrifying experience"! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Well that job was short lived they have a policey if you don't work a scheduled shift your terminated. well I got sick and had to go home but was informed you know if you leave your job is terminated don't you. Don't matter if your sick or what.  I felt like I was about to colasped and sick to my stomach when I told them there was no way I could finish the day.  Oh well Back to manpower see what else they have. I'm sure it won't be the long hours so no overtime and I'm sure it won't be as much and that wasn't much to start with . My life is worth more than the little they wanted me to work and hold a threat. Theres more jobs to be found.

supose to call back to the staffing firm this afternoon.

I heard that if you break one of those mercury bulbs in the house, you have to call Hazmat to do a cleanup ! Could cost thousands of dollars, that's if I got the story right !!  Big Smile [:D]

Thanks, John

That is a bit of a problem with the compact flourescent bulbs. It always seems somewhat dis-engenious on the part of the greenies when concerns are voiced about this issue. Out here the gas & electric companies are subsidizing the sales and one of my museum running mates asked an individual hawking these at one of the big-box homestores about this issue he was told to shop elsewhere. Kinda warm and muggy here today, good thing I'm inside to work on the cars for my halloween train. Wink [;)] And no it's never to early, I'm scratchbuiling a couple of depressed center flats, 3/8 baltic birch leftovers, for a couple of newly acquired halloween items. Evil [}:)]
