Finally got wife to go with me to see the Bourne Ultimatum.  ITS A MUST.  You need to see the other two, if you haven't, before you go.  Wife just saw the first two on TV this month.  She said it was one of the best movies she has ever seen.  You will definitely not go back for popcorn refills [our super tubs come with refills] nor will you go "pee".  If you do, you will miss a lot.  From the minute the movie starts to the end.  James Bond and Indiana Jones can not compete. They say this is the last one.  Wife says, "No."

Hot!!  Thunder in the distance.  Black clouds in the horizion.  Please rain!!!!!!!!

Went to the train shop with the wife yesterday. Was pretty nice family outing. Nothing really jumped out and yelled "must have" so went home empty handed.

Finaly go to take the old Harley out. Finished putting it back together last week but with all the rain could'nt take it out for test runs. It ran beutiful except for the typical things. Had to stop a couple of times to tighting things up that came loose due to the vibration. Was cloudy all day so I stayed close to home cause it looked like rain. But it didn't and when  I took it back to the shop the sun came out (no surprise).

Afternoon All !

What a morning here. Got up early as usual, 5:30, so I can sit on the patio and enjoy my first cup of coffee. The only difference this morning was the very slight rumble of thunder in the distance. I figured that it would be the usual stuff, a mountain t'storm drifted into the valley and would soon poop out. Boy was I ever wrong ! We had a thunder storm, the likes of which is an extreme rarity around here, more like the ones that Florida is known for. Flash flood warnings, the whole nine yards. I thought for sure the gutters and downspouts wouldn't handle the rain since it had been so long since rain and dry as a popcorn f**t, but no problems. My grandson, 2yo, spent the night with us last nite and it didn't seem to bother him at first. We were going thru the family room to the patio door to watch the rain when there was a hellacious lightining bolt and similtainious thunder clap. I thought he was going to climb up my legs like a little spider monkey it scared him so much. We ended up running the trains in an effort to kinda offset the continuing thunder. We had fun anyway, think I just mite have a "Certified Train Nut" in the family. Me, I'm just plain "Nuts" and really like trains. I just had to throw that in because if I didn't one of you guys would. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Good afternoon from a beautiful Crystal Lake where I have been loafing all day after working at church. Have I mentioned it was a beautiful Sunny day?

Jim F., Happy Anniversary - I keep trying to steer moisture to St. Louis by mental telepathy but it isn't working.

Buckeye, LOL - we videorecorded the funeral for the family. One of my buddies has actually recorded his own obituary or rather eulogy. That would be weird.

Jim A, first baseball game is quite a milestone - I took our youngest this past April when the White Sox still had hope and we all nearly froze to death!

Here is a great quote from a William D. Middleton (IMHO the dean of all writers on traction) article in the premiere issue of Trains 'Classic' from 1999 that shows why I love trolleys and interubans.... Isn't this just great writing: "The pungent odor of grinding brakeshoes. The unique smell of ozone from the traction motors, the characteristic whining of traction-motor gearing, changing in pitch as speed increased. The 'lung-a-lung-alung-alunga' of the air compressor under the floor. The occasional 'crack' of circuit breaker. The wailing air horns as the cars flew through the countryside."

I agree a complete word video with sound!!!

Here I sit at the computer show at the LA County Fairgrounds. Using Wi-Fi, very boring show!! 1 hour to go, will start packing up early!

AGAIN - Want to thank you guys for the information I get from here it is really beneficial. Soundboard from the Chief, Wiring guidelines from Roy, Pwr Supply help from John. Bridge reminders from Doug. And a heck of a lot of encourgement. This is really great therapy. Sure hope I can help or do something as benefical to help someone else sometime. (Even appreciate Buckeye, the humor is great)

This will be the last show for awhile. Need to get the trains running!!! Some isolated reports of rain, and micro-bursts goin on. That will be great for the traffic going home. Think I will go check out ebay

Have great evening all.

Beautiful day in rural Ohio. I finished the mowing and trimming. Got some time to sit under the big shade tree and relax. Just enjoyed the weather.

Dougdagrump...I'm up at 6 a.m. every day. I go out on the back deck for the first cup of coffee. Nice to know someone else likes to do that too.

OK, I am going to try posting one more time here.  I have been trying for the last 10 minutes and it keeps acting up.

Chief, you are right on about the Bourne movie.  It was great.

Had a great day at church.  Two great messages and then the book on the last movie was released today.  Gets a lot of publicity, but we do have to keep things in thier proper perspective.

How about Warner Robins Georgia, Little League World Champs!  This is the second in a row for a Georgia team.  Must be something to those Grits!

Hope everyone has a blessed week.

Dougsnotagrump, we had a thunderstorm too.  A rarity here too. Black Eye [B)]  Got .0125 inches.  Others got flooded again.  Big red on the radar until about 5 miles from Roseyville, then it just melted and only light rain.  This is getting ridiculous!!!!! Sad [:(]  Glad all of our Ohizoians are OK after storms.  Town atty. and I have a big meeting tomorrow afternoon with Div of Water Quality.  Hope that comes out in Roseyville's favor.  If so, Raleigh will put water in waterline that was argued about months ago.  Hope all have a great and safe week.  Later.

Sir James, glad the insurance company is working on getting your house back in order, with most of the work by you and your contractors.  Hope things continue to go smoothly.  One thought, our electrical EMC offers a whole house surge protection, you may want to see if your electrical company does too.

To everyone out there weathering storms, prayers go out to you.  We don't watch much TV these days, so I am mostly oblivious to current storms, etc.  We seem to have had storms every night these past few days.  Took a few trees out and I have to break out the chainsaw when I get off call to take care of them.  Have plenty of yard work to do, but at least the temps have dropped into the high two digits instead of the 100+ of the past few weeks.

Everyone be safe.

Evening All (Morning?)

On night shift and on break.

Hope all are doing OK with the storms and all.  Luckly no fires.  I was in Heath Ohio when the tornado sirens went off. Several folks at the retreat center I was at were unaware of what the sirens were for so I herded them to the tornado shelter.  Weather was ugly for a bit.  Lots of rain real fast.  Southern Ohio was spared the storms.

Not much training this weekend.  Hopefully get to do some on my days off Monday through Thursday this week.  Going to take the Franklin off and put the new to me 290 pulling a my 650 passenger cars I think, love the 718 mail car.

Going to Glacier National Park in a few weeks, looking forward to just a vacation.  Any suggestions on things to see?

Well need to check on a few things, check back in later.

God bless

Jim

Good morning all.

Fifey was right. Thing 1 was more interested in the vendors at the ball game, and had an 8th inning meltdown because I wouldn't buy him an ice cream. He and his brother did enjoy their peanuts, sodas, waters, pretzels, and foam fingers though...

Not much else going on here. So happy to be back at work. And I'm not kidding!!!

Time for some tea.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a beautiful 60 degrees. Sunny skies and clear. Going up to 84, today with sunshine all day.

Today is a typical Monday. I have a few errands to run and things to do around the house. I plan on enjoying the nice weather, later. Got all the yard work done. Not much time for trains today. It's hard to believe that this is the last week of August, already. This summer has gone by fast. It has been a hot one.

Good Morning....Jim. Glad to be back at work, huh ?

Well, Dining Car has rolled in and is well stocked. Breakfast.

Y'all have a great Monday.

Yes I am glad to be at work, Chuck. I just don't much enjoy the never ending whining and bickering, and mayhem that 3 kids under 7 years of age bring to the table. Here it's nice and quiet. I can have my breakfast in peace, and not hear the crashing, tinkling noises that I rely on to track the where abouts of Thing 1 and Thing 2, as well as there nefarious older sister.

On a lighter note, check out the following link to an eBay auction. These trains are over 55 years old, have never been run, and look like they were just made yesterday. Isn't it hard to believe that this type of stuff even exists after all these years?!  I'll bid as high as $4,000. It could get hairy, but I'd like to trade up!

'Morning boys & girls

Starting out to be another hot & humid one today.  Rained off & on all weekend to add to the misery and no appreciable accumilation to be had.

Got my dining car for my PE. I need the baggage combo and the main PE set for my Christmas layout.  It was an interesting day at the LHS.  Got a first hand application on the ZW and the bricks.  I think I'll stick to the PW ZW & KW.  I'm starting to like that TMCC though.  Next Saturday I'll be learning to make rocks...should be interesting.

Had my cup o joe today, now off to the races.  Hopeful that the Ohizoinans & Michiagans r ok.

Be Safe

Jim, Glacier National Park is breathtaking.  The Going to the Sun Highway is awesome.  Hiking to one of the overnight huts is something I still would like to do.  Spend some time in East Glacier watching the trains at the station.  The East Glacier Lodge is something to see.  Go inside and see "Rocky".  In fact, all the lodges are really great architecture.  Wished I was going with you.  Watch out for the bears.  They do have grizzlies that roam the woods and they like berries.

Jimmy A, those F3s are new!!!!  BTW, he has Western Pacifics for sale, too.  Looking at the underside it obvious that the center rail rollers are farther apart than today's rollers.

Good morning all,

It is cool this morning, but it is supposed to warm up this afternoon in SE Indiana.  I was going to post yesterday, but we got a call yesterday telling us my wife's father had passed away.  He had been in the Philippines the last six years with her brother, and he had been in declining health the past few years.  He had a stroke in the last month and he had been in the hospital undergoing therapy.  I guess his body was tired and he needed a rest.  My wife is sad that he is gone, but relieved that he no longer has to endure what he was going thru anymore.  Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Hey Doug, I had my daughter check with the Milan High school about your 1957 reunion and they have nothing on it.  My grand kids go there also. Sorry, no help here.  Everybody have a great day and try to be kind to the "Chief".  I think he's going through the "CHANGE" and is becoming bitter toward the world.  He needs our prayers.

Mornin' Fellas...

Keith, got your email and just read your post, so  no need to responde to my stupid question! LOL!

As for Chief - He's having more fun with us fellas up North... gives the old chap something to do with all his free time... BTW Chief - why don't you go visit your Grandson?  He seems to come visit you... Wink [;)]

Got more of the shed roof done yesterday... now have 2/3 finished and ran out of shingles... stopped by Home Despot and picked up two more square and spackle for the spare room Susan is removing wall paper in.  The old owners did not size the walls and now the paper is removing the paperface from the drywall!  What a mess.

Friend of mine stopped by yesterday to take the problem child for a test drive.  It started acting up for him and he said it feels like an Rear Inner CV Joint.  Definitely NOT engine, tranny, or AWD related, and it certainly is not a tire.  So have to call the other mechanic today, this is so much fun!

Morning all!

Gonna be another warm one here today. Maybe 99?

Kids are off to first day of school. Daughter drove herself - what a concept!

Mike C. - Sorry for your loss. I am glad your wife is handling it well.

Jim A & Buckeye - that auction is not a good one for me. I would want to run it if I won!

Chief - redcaboose seems to think you have changed...Confused [%-)]

Gotta run - have a great day all!

Roy, did you read my reply about the decals?

I'd like to buy those minty trains on Ebay, then take them to York and smash them with a sledge hammer! How many heart attacks do you think that would induce?!!  Wink [;)]  Give me a scratched up runner any day!

Just my hand (where I tried to put a knife through it last weekend) and now my wallet.  Just ordered new tires for the wife's Bimmer... $350.00 from TireRack (not bad really just have other things I would rather spend $350.00 on)!

If you did that to those engines at York I don't think you would make it out alive! Probably be lynched before the hammer fell a second time, then they would string you up from the Grand Stand to make an example of you! LOL!

Good morning from a sunny and pleasant Chicago where I am set to enjoy one of the slowest weeks of our year. Classes start Sept. 5, everyone wants to elongate their Labor Day weekend, I think I'm the only one here - but like Jim A, as much as I love the kids, I don't mind the break - even if it includes work. Have to remember to give the bride one occasionally... Not started with the matches yet, RT, waiting for a frost to get started.

Mike C, I'm sorry about your loss. Hope your bride is doing well.
