Happy New Year to you too, Mike - and to all. Snowing here. Off to the neighbors in a minute with the youngest. The teens finally have things to do. I used the afternoon to cut off the couplers from a K-Line GP9 I've been cannibalizing for years and using various plastic thingies I saved from toy packaging, glued them to the front of Thomas and Percy. Hope it holds.

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 50s.  It made it nice for my dad and I to retrieve the rest of the layout from the museum.  We are getting ready for a New Year's Eve party at our house with some friends.  Lucas and his girlfriend will be here as well as her folks.  Could be an interesting evening.  I want to wish all on the forum a Happy New Year, and I will be posting soon on Chief's new thread.   We had bacon and biscuits on the dining car from "Points East".  I hope everyone has a good day and a good new year.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good evening folks.  Waiting on the New Year.  Took down the outside decos and lifted the trains from under the tree so wifey can take it down while I am gone for work.  Not much going on today.  Shot another vide.  Waiting for Google to process.  Will add it to the Legacy thread when it's done.

I caught up with the post and a thought came to mind."If we eat chinese tonite who will

assemble our trains" I didn't know we could do that.

Last nites snow is gone but the forecast still says 4 to 6 inches tomorrow. I wonder if Murphy is involved with that.

Had a short rest on the couch, a little train running and fussing, ready for tonite. Wife going to church i'll be here and then next door to party. Oh the old days when I would crawl home, I hated when someone would step on my fingers. Not to mention those cars driving on the sidewalk.   Later,,,,Sir James

Ahhh, a glorious light at the end of this long, cold tunnel! Good luck against the Bucks!

Dougie, please don't wave your wand in my direction! Dead [xx(]

Just finished running trains. Thought the scale F3 might need a smoke unit tweak, but it was smoking good with 16 drops. Evidently I've been under feeding it! James pulled three troublesome trucks on the outer loop, the NYC 4-4-2 pulled a 10 car freight on the inner loop. We all had a good time. Polar Express has been put away for another year.

Doug Murphy...Before the year ends,  I have bone to pick with you.  Do you remember your threats about letting your laws out of the bag during my big neighborhood party when we ran the trains?  Shock [:O] Here is a list of what happened:

  1. Switch No. 9 decided to only work in one direction, derailing Amtrak and killing three plastic people.
  2. Amtrak slammed into the Chessie freight when a child bumped the switch lever. Your high def TV was destroyed. Sorry! It is on back order.
  3. Both traction tires on the NYC 5412 Steamer came off, derailing the locomotive when it when through Switch No. Five causing the circuit breakers to pop.
  4. The CAB-1 went on the fritz, sending the NYC 5412 Steamer down the track at full speed until I could hit the emergency off button.
  5. My HOT BOX Reefer Car worked perfectly, but then it would not stop smoking until I turned off the power.
  6. A plastic pig fell off the cliff and on to the tracks in front of the CSX SD80, killing the pig.
  7. When we tried to bury the pig in the cemetery, a power pole fell down killing one of the plastic people digging the grave.
  8. Switch No. 1 shorted out when Amtrak had to back up to miss the plastic pig and the SD80.
  9. The airplane pylon tower hit a neighbor in the head and one of the planes was damaged.
  10. The C&O Mikado would not recognize ALT 5 shutdown sequence from the CAB 1.
  11. One of the neighborhood kids knocked over a glass of red wine.
  12. The cat got caught between the screen door and the glass door and spent the night there until I rescued her at five am. Incidentally, although it rained, the cat was only wet on the side exposed to the screen.

Before the party I had spent four hours checking and rechecking everything, even the cat.  Every locomotive and switch were working perfectly.  Since the party, everything is working perfect and the cat is not trying to escape.

Murphy's Law does exist and the cat is convinced.  Big Smile [:D]

Happy New Year to all hands---from the North Carolina High Country!Smile [:)]

Beautiful sunny day and 36F. Expect very cold temps tomorrow with low of 6F and daily high of 14F. Also 6F Wednesday night. Mountain Weather Station predicting 3" of snow with 6" at higher elevations[5,500' to 6,000'+ altitude]. My place is at 3,500' altitude so hopefully we are on the 3" side. Any way I have nowhere to go, but have to "armchair" railroad since I dismantled my shelf layout[also grand children took Thomas, Percy, etc, home with them after Christmas].

Pepper steak[spouse], pork egg rolls and pork fried rice[me]. Takeout here at home tonight. Maybe even one martini[vodka, not real martini with Bombay Gin].

Driveway cleared, kids bathed, I'm showered, and the Chinese food is ordered for this evening. Can't wait for that! We will be having guests over for dinner and a movie. Chinese food on NYE is a local tradition. Chinese restaurants typically report 4 times the customers on this day every year. I always stash a pair of egg rolls in the fridge as soon as I get home so I can eat them for breakfast the next day! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Morning all.  Last day of vacation and it's off to Seattle.  Hope everyone has a great New Years.  Pretty cold day here.  At least colder than it's been.  Will be in the basement playing with the trains.

Found out my J needs a new cross head.  I gues when it tumbled off the weight bench the piston rod broke off.  Hopefully Lionel might have one in stock.  If not it still works just mssing the visual of the piston. They actually had the crosshead guides when I needed them so maybe I'll get lucky.

We'll be heading out for fried rice, and the Hand's on Museum, and pink ice cream w/ whipped cream.  Looks like I'll be ordering my Christmas present replacement online.
