Morning to All

A fresh pot is on the burner.  Yesterday was an interesting day. So glad I did not have kids r a school to deal with.  It seems taht some pranksters hit three bus lots in our area of the school district and deflated the tires on almost all of the buses.  Buses were running up to two hours late.  Made for a very interesting first day of school. Another Maryland school system had a similar thing in the spring, but they slashed tires and smashed windows.  Our vandals just let the air out.

Car troubles seem to be the norm around here. A few weeks back I had to replace an axle/CV joint ($300+), then two weeks ago we had to replace the hoses on my son's truck along with some other work ($200+).  Friday an idiot light came on in my vehicle.  Turns out it was a ping sensor that advances the timing and keeps the engine from detonating ($350+).  There goes that Flying Yankee I was thinking of ordering out of the new Lionel catalog.  Seems like things always come in threes.  At least that's the third repair so there probably won't be another repair soon.

88- Congrats on the 1688.  Keith will have it right in no time at all.  Just take it easy on the throttle because they will really fly with a modern transformer.  Sounds like you are still having some car issues.  Hope the wheel or cv joint is the real cause. Reading about Susan's tires reminded me that the Mrs. needs new skins on her ride.

LAZ - hope you have a good bunch of kids this year. Countin' the days already...shame on you....

jaabat - Love the NH boxcar. I may have to try to get some of the decal paper to decorate an old tinplate car I reprinted. I bet I can pick up some up at York or the LHS.

Roy - after you buy that lot of trains, I'm sure you'll offer some special deals to your friends in the Coffee Pot. Wink [;)]

Mike C - Sorry to hear about your FIL.

RT - congrats on the job.  Hope it is good for you.

Jim/Sturgeon-Phish - your trip to Glacier sounds wonderful.  I am envious.  Know you will enjoy. Post some photos whenyouget back.

Well, I best get going.

Mitch

It is a sunny 62 degrees. Going up to 90, today with sunshine all day.

Today, I am doing a few thngs around the yard. Need to touch up some trimming and work on garden. Later, this afternoon, I will take a trip to the train room and do some dusting and train running. Hopefully, it will be a nice quiet day.

Great ballgame last night for the Indians. Triple play.

Dining Car is here and it's time for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Good morning all,

And it is a good morning.  I showed my wife and son all the comments you made yesterday and they were very greatly comforted by your thoughts and prayers.  This is truly a great group of people, and you brought a smile to their faces with the conversations about the "terrorist attack on the Piggly Wiggly" :-).  I know they sometimes wonder why I spend time here, but days like yesterday show them why I do.  Thanks to all of you for your help in these times, and my thoughts and prayers go out to all of you who are experiencing troubles as well.

IIABSDISEI with highs in the low 90s.  The humidity will be back later today, but it is supposed to cool off for the weekend.  I did go to the YMCA for weights last night and I got to bed a little earlier as well.  Just the usual fare on the dining car this morning.  I get to see a rare road soccer game tonight as the girls have a bye night and the boys road game is on my way home.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Jim,
Best wishes for your SiL's MiL... that is tough when they have something that is treatable and they give up hope...

Mitch,
Yep still having vibrations... have to call BMW today and see if I can take it in for diagnostics.  What drives me nuts is no one seems to want to figure out what is wrong and fix it!

Ordered some General Exclaims from TireRack for the wife's Bimmer (she wanted a good inexpensive tire), they rated superior in every category except Winter Driving (which she doesn't do with this car) so we will see how they turn out...

Not much else going on... so back to the doldrum they call work...

Good morning to everyone. God has really blessed us with a beautiful day here in TN.  I own an auction house here in my home town and at our auction this past Saturday a lionel train set was auctioned and my wife bought it for $5.  It's from the 50-60 erra I believe. I model in HO and know very little about "O" and standard gages.  My friend here, a southern boy, (see chief , us yankees do have friends in the south) is an advid collector and modeler in Standard and "O" gages.  This is the first train set I've seen at my auction. We deal in mainly Civil War times furniture and antiques.  Maybe I'll put it up for auction here with a fresh pot of coffee some morning.  Have a great day and keep God your focus.

Morning all from beautiful Southern Ohio!  Really nice this morning.  I have some outside grunt work so going to get it knocked out before it gets too hot.

John-I'll check out the semis at Kmart thanks for the tip.

Mitch-Thanks for the well wishes.  I'll take pics and post them.  Less than two weeks till we go.

Jim-I'll keeep your Mil in my prayers-unfortunate when the will to live is not there.  Doctors and medicine alone won't work.

Brent-I've not bought tires from Tirerack, because a local shop will match the final price, but I have used the tire rating guide.  It is a great resource for tire shopping and I have been pleased with the tires I've bought using the guide.

Removed the Franklin and the 24720, 30, and 40 coaches off the layout and put the 650's 651 & 718 on after a quick clean and lube.  Pulling them with the 290 recently refurbed.  Playing with the link couplers as a couple are being finicky.  I've noticed the different year versions don't like each other as much as I would like.  Particularly the early '46 thin shank unweighted links.  I guess that is why they became thick and then weighted.

All take care

May God bless

Wait a minute, there is something new. I bought a beat up old 6464-475 B&M boxcar at the LHS yesterday (before the Walmart incident). It was $10, but I got it for $7. Anyway, it's all scratched, so out of boredom, I started sanding it with fine sandpaper and nail polishing sticks. The scratches I've worked on are gone and the car now shows big promise. I only did one side of the roof, but it looks great!

And Jim, F, sorry to hear about your family troubles. Hang in there!

Jim

P.S. Doug Murphy, the Batman film crew is going to be imploding a (Brachs?) warehouse or factory building in Chicago this week to be used as an explosion in the movie. The difference with this implosion is that gasoline cans will be ignited when the demo occurs, making the building look like it exploded.

Good morning from a sunny and cool Chicago where we have warehouses exploding all the time, so what's the big deal? Batman shooting is supposed to be just about over - last Friday, they were all over LaSalle St by the Board of Trade making it look like winter. I hung with the extras for a while who were dressed in their winter coats and hats - mind you, it was about 85. The things they do to get in film! That NH car looks nifty, Jim A. You sure have a way with restorations.

I sure was tired yesterday - I'm the only one in the family allegeric to something in the air since the big storms of last week. Every mosquito in northeastern Illinois is apparently in our house too - and divebombing on me - it's like camping. I did watch that Saving Grace show on TNT with Holly Hunter as a complete basketcase cop. It's kind of entertaining.

Much trauma at home yesterday though - the dog apparently killed our youngest's brand-new hamster. A boyfriend was conveniently over to clean up things before the 5 yr. old realized what had happened and the bride raced out to find another one with him. The things I miss while I'm at work Smile [:)]

Jim F, sorry to hear about your SiL.

Mitch, messing with school buses is a felony in Illinois. A few years back, we had a lot full of slashed tires on the first day of high school. The pair who did it went to jail. Hope your car trouble is inexpensive. I never did take my 11 year old Hyundai in to the shop last week with the squeaking wheel. I just took it out on a straight road - ran it (legally) up to 55 and jammed on the brakes. Problem solved (for the moment).

I just heard that OGR's editor George Brown is stepping down effective Oct. 1st, and that he will be replaced by Allan Miller.

Could this be the same Allan Miller that we all know and love?

Well done to George, who'll be staying with OGR as an associate editor and I wish both George and Allan all the best!

Wow, that would be great for OGR. I hope it's true. Allan is a class guy and a heck of a editor.

Congradulations to Allan !!!

Surrvived the night with no problem, all will return to normal.  We do have a strong resolve out here.  Doug (notagrump), I think we can stand down.  Anyway as typical of our Southern friends, they have very short term memories.

HOPEFULLY, today will get a call that my switches have come in.  I'm ready and waiting to get back to work on the layout.  This next week could really show a lot of progress.  While I'm waiting going to do detail planning for the wiring.  With the help of Roys comments on the thread I put up.  It should go rather easy.

Interesting situation developed here,  as wifes family is from Northern Wisc., and she has 6 or 7 Aunts and Uncles living there.  Her parents who live here, have decided to drive back for a visit.  (There are some health concerns of a couple of the relatives).  Given that her parents are now in their 80's and do NOT fly, train travel too expensive on a short notice going to drive.

So, since they relations are gettin "on" suggested that Kay, could go with them and help with the driving (80%), and have a chance to see her family.  Who know's if another chance will happen or how long they will be there.  So they are leaving around Sept 20, and will be gone for probably 4 or 5 weeks.    Hmmmmm ...

So off to work, hope everyone has a great day.

Thank you for the nice letter, I don't know how to spell appreciate but there I tried. Sir James.

Locomutt, nice sign in the photo, makes me think of the fish in my pond at feeding time as you would think that they are pirahnas, they snap at the food with a vengence, they are big mouth bass and catfish..

I am waiting for a new Lionel 0-4-0 steamer Reading Lines to arrive from near Fort Meyers FL. Most of my trains are now Reading Lines & Reading Company and Pennsylvania and Santa Fe.  Didn't get much ,ore work done in my train room, looking to scrape some more paint off and repaint at least two of the walls, also want to mount a train track near the ceiling as I am running out of space.

Just hope that you Ohio guys didn't get hit too hard by all the rain lately!  Send some rain down to south Florida as Lake Okeechobee is down a good bit.

Evening all

Boy it was nice today.  Got lots of outside work done.

RT- Get yourself a REAL GOOD pair of boots.  It will make a big difference with your back and knees.

Got the Plasticville House under construction today.  It is really neat.  I'll get some pics of it on the layout.

God bless

RT - is that with overtime?  Ditto on the shoes.  I used to stand on concrete for 12 hours at a time and I've got some varicose veins to prove it.

Thanks for the prayers guys, you are the best.  Picking up a card at Hallmark yesterday.  They have a musical card with some old time locomotive drawing/cartoon on the front that plays Wabash Canonball - great card!

Still working on a new layout design.  I've got a sheet of 1/2 inch plywood and some 2 x 10's that are 8 ft long, can cut down to make supports and legs on my tablesaw.  Actually thinking more and more I'll do a wrap around layout with a branch down one wall.  This is right next to my little workshop, so will need to fit around some tools.  Shouldn't be a problem, though.

No rain.  Watered the lawn.  coworker went out in an ambulance this morning.  Ron Johnston, retired Army.  Heard he got a stent this morning.  Hope he's doing well.  Things go in 3's, so you guys watch yourselves!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Watering.  Have to water at night now.  Raleigh stupid rules.  Some other stupdiity.  Not watering grass.  Watering wife's many pots that come out of the greenhouse in the spring and back in the fall.  Also her shrubs and veges in garden.  That is food.  Actually the rules do not mention soaker hoses.  Says sprinklers.  HUMM, could I get them on a technicality.  Where is my legal advisor [Raleightrainfan]?

Got the Soundstop down in the big room.  Yes, drop down too.  Now to screw track down and rewire.  Then move to back room.

Good evening everyone,

It was a nice weekend. I got another new phone, a Samsung Blackjack. I love this phone. It has the full qwerty keypad so I can type on it like I type on the computer.

I got back from soccer a few hrs. ago, and I just came home from a friends house.

Chief, that is one of the greatest movie's I have ever seen. How did you like the ending?

Mike C., my condolences to you family.

I'm going to watch Mindfreak on A&E and text a few friends.

Buckeye - good catch. Next Chief will be calling you about foundation engineering!

Another quick stop to say Hi all!

Another busy day tomorrow. Cold front supposed to come through - low 90's? Maybe some T-Storms.

Have a great evening all!
