Good Evening Guys! Dropping to 19 tonight.

Johns-son had his first day on the job. He liked it. He responded to a medical emergency and a minor motor vehicle accident. His Captain pulled him on the side and told him that he knows that he just got out of the academy, but don't call him Sir again!

Dennis: They check the pollution in Jersey also.

Enjoy the Evening!

Evening all!

News said this January so far is 11th coldest on record. Go figure. Running low on firewood and I bought twice as much as last year. Hard to get more this late in the season.

Mike C - good day, nice!

Ray - sorry it did not work. I struggled to try and explain it so it probably does not make sense.

Hudson John - hope all your son's days go smoothly! Congrats to him!

Dennis - Texas also requires all pollution gear to be in place and operational. We get a tailpipe check. You have to make sure you have the  vehicle warmed up before you go in or you might fail due to catalytic converter not fully working. They tried to implement a chassis dynamometer test but that got rejected as the inspection stations could not afford the gear unless fees raised significantly and state would not do that. Then the state tried building their own inspection centers and that got canned by all the inspection shops saying it would pull business from them. Thats how it works in Texcess.

Busy afternoon working on the layout support system for the show this weekend. I was not able to finish it the last time so  half the legs were not stained and missing some trim. Got the trim and staining completed followed by a coat of tung oil. Layout sits on a frame supported by 8 legs (4 x 4's made from boxed poplar 1 x 4's with 5 1/2 in bases and some 45 degree trim). Legs, support stringers, and layout facia all from poplar stained with teak stain and coated with tung oil. Makes a nice presentation and one can easily crawl under the layout plus store our train boxes.

Have a great evening all!

Regards, Roy

Good evening,

It was about 10 degrees when I went for a quick 2-mile run this morning.  My wife thinks I'm nuts, but I enjoy it.  Although it has been cold the past week or so, the sun does shine most of the time.  Either way, I enjoy it and just need Chuck to fire some more snow this way.  The workday was filled with paperwork, but it did go by quickly.  We had a church event tonight and now it is time for bed.

Roy - The layout does sound like a nice setup.  Hopefully you will share some photos.

Good Morning,

May crack the freezing mark today on the North Bluff that will be a first in a long string of cold.
8N and Roy, good to see you guys are working the hobby. Was starting to think I was the only one here doing anything with trains of late.
Going to site in the SIL’s shotgun later. Tomorrow starts the last weekend of deer season.

Good morning all,

Went out to eat last night with social group called "The Prime Club" which I refer to as the over the hill gang.  There is some kind of physical problem with all of us but we keep going.  Had a great Mexican dinner at a place new to me.

Wife had some issues yesterday with her dementia but she seems OK today.  She still has not been diagnosed yet but they have ruled out just about any physical cause.  They tell me at caregiver meetings that we have to live in their world because they can no longer live in ours.  Hard for me to accept but keep going one day at a time.

On a brighter note, our weather is getting more spring like this week.  I feel more like walking now.

Roy, I think you explained posting quotes well enough.  Must be something I'm doing/not doing.  Anyway,l I figured out another way of doing it for now.

later,

Ray

Good evening all,

Good day personally, but not a good day overall.   Talked to people at CTT and there are possibilities for some articles.   Had a good walk and went my usual distance for the first time in a while.  Weather was sunny and work was busy and quiet.  Made reservations so we can spend the night in Terre Haute after seeing Lucas on Sunday.

Now for the not good part.  One of my coworkers has been there almost as long as I have.   She went to the same school as one of my daughters and did almost the same things there.  When comparing notes one time, she made the suggestion that she could be the daughter I did not know about.  It started off as sort of a joke, but over the years we have become quite close.  Her real dad was never in the picture, and she was an only child.  Last night, her mom was home when 2 men tried to burglarize the place.  She was not hurt and in fact, chased them off.  She was able to identify them to the police, who caught both of them shortly afterward.   About an hour after that incident, police were called to the place again.  Her mom passed away from a heart attack, evidently brought on by the exertions that occurred during the burglary.   Her mom and her were very close.   I have not spoken to her yet, but I will be there for the visitation.   This is a terrible, terrible shock for all concerned.   Not a good day.   Please keep my coworker and "daughter" in your thoughts and prayers.

Keep on training,

Good evening from the shores of frozen Lake Erie! Could not see open water.   I have been in Jeepland today for a couple of meetings and then tomorrow a breakfast in Westlake, OH, then back to Jeepland.

Toledo is a great place to see trains.  I saw some really beat up NS locomotives near the river and a couple shiny CSX locomotives near the refineries.

This weekend is the train show at the State Fair grounds in Cbus.  Will be looking for some LED lights for my wrecker and squad vehicles.

Good evening,

No running this morning as I had to be at the firing range early.  The rest of the workday was not as fun, but that's the way it goes sometimes.  I made a yellow chicken curry for dinner that came out great.  Not much else going on here.

Mike C. - I'm sorry to hear about your "daughter's" loss.  That is a tragic event.  I hope you can provide her some comfort during this hard time.  I will pray for her and you.

Laz - The Coal Cracker 10K will be in June.  I plan to make the trip out to run it.  What about you?

Good night,

Joe

Hi GUYZ,

Warm one here at 32 not bad.  Gonna do a nice 5 mile walk on the mountain today with my MINNIE DOG.  Gonna run some trains tonite after making deer steak casadillas.

MIKE C. sorry for your loss.  Prayers for you.

SPMAN, Prayers for you and your WIFE too.  Hope she has better days.

JOEY D. I don't think I'll be running the Coal Cracker.  But ya never know?  I run now just for fun and health, not for time.  When I was a lot younger all I worried about was how fast I can push myself.  Now just for the pleasure of seeing things around me.  I used to run those races all over, spent lots o money and time going from one race to another.  Maybe go up to the region and meet up with you?  Stay tuned.

SIRJAMES, got my pitcher taken and didn't break the camera.  Do I get an extra scoop of binella?

CHUCK & BUCKEYE, TGIF!!!!!!

Mike - wow that is really sad. Hope they charge those two with 2nd Degree Murder. Prayers will definitely be raised. Glad you are recovering and are in better spirits.

Looking forward to the weekend. Dropping my BMW off to get new rubbers tonight. Mom and Dad are coming into town - they were coming so my Dad and I could go pickup our new kitchen table, chairs, and island chairs. Well the new items haven't shown up, but they are still coming so they can take the old table and chairs back to Pittsburgh for my little sister. Kiddos are looking forward to Mammy and Pappy (they call my Dad 'Happy' which is a bit of an inside joke) visiting.

Every day I find myself in amazement at just how special my wife is.

Aloha. Sunny and milder. Just back from grocery shopping now sorting the things I got, the things I forgot to buy, and the things I bought for the bride to take to her school for the kiddos. 8n, there are some neat things I have seen that you can do with a stock yard - the stock cars all needed water and certain stock needed exercise every X number of miles or hours. I'll look forward to hearing what you come up with. We have pollution inspections here in IL - I always make sure the car is gassed up, with the gas cap on tight and warmed up. We used to be far enough out from the city not to have to do it but we're not so rural anymore. MikeC, my condolences for your co-worker's loss. I am glad you are able to stand with her in this time of mourning. Kev, I like what you did with the Menards set-up. Did you see the ammunition boxcar?

Good afternoon,

Warm and melting outside today. I have been watching Lexi while her dad sat in the tree stand and saw nothing. Made a snowman and they just headed home.

Off to the store for some meds then not much.

We don't do smog out here in the flat farm land but we did when we were in Plainfield. I don't miss it at all.

Doug, for some reason the only cars I saw at Menards in Morris was the flat cars. I don't know if they were sold out or they never got them? Now there are flower pots where the trains were.

Mike C, sorry to hear of your co workers loss.  Terrible tradgedy brouht on by a couple of idiots.  Hope justice is done to them.

Only  thing on the agenda today is physical therapy for my wife this afternoon.  Might try to get out to the train layout later if I get the chance.

My drummer friend is off tomorrow on a seven day Carribian cruise playing with a traditional jazz band.  Tough work but somebody has to do it.  He says they don't have to perform a lot each day so get plenty of free time for fun.

As for me, I'm lucky to make it to a train meet once in a while about 15 miles away because of health issues.

Beautiful day here.

Ray

Good evening,

It's almost midnight and I'm about to go to bed.  It warmed up a bit today; the high was in the low-40s.  It was around 35 when I went for my morning run.  I stayed busy at work all day and I am looking forward to the 3-day weekend.

Laz - I know you don't run for time anymore, but the Coal Cracker is a fun run.  Plus, it's in my hometown.  I'll keep you posted.

Chuck and Buckeye - Are either of you going to the train show in Columbus this weekend?

Joe.....I will be attending on Saturday morning.

Chuck.....I got your order request for the show.  Just send me a check for $2315.00 and I will pick it up at the show.  How is the oil business these days?Laugh

Mike C.....Was that another case of needing money for meth?  So much crime in the rural areas seem to be connected to the production of meth.  They have blown a few house up in southern Ohio.

Doesn't this photo just scream "COLD"?

Good morning,

The 4-year-old woke me up about 30 minutes ago.  It looks like it will be another sunny day with the high in upper-30s or low-40s.  I hope to make it to the train show today, but I know some other chores are on the agenda.

Fife, regarding the Ukulele, I have already applied for membership as a Kazoo player.  Don't think they need either one of us.  Incidentally,my friend sat in with a polka band recently and met Molly Bee who is seen on TV with the Molly Bee Polka party.  She is a very talented person who plays five or six instruments.

Good Evening Guys!

Spent the day splitting firewood. Nothing new on the train front.

Mike C: Prayers for your Co-Worker "Daughter". A very tragic death.

Ray: Prayers for you and your wife.

Laz: Thanks for the compliment on Johns-son. Yes, you can have an extra scoop of banilla! lol

Brent: Hope the your parents visit was a fun one. I say the same about my wife.

Buckeye: That photo made me put 3 more logs on the fire!

Joe: Hope you enjoyed the train show.

Fife: Johns-son has been seeing some action, including a bar room fight! He has a good training officer that he is riding with.

Enjoy the Day!

Good evening all,

Buckeye, the incident took place in suburban Indy, fairly close to where one of my real daughters live.   It was just a couple of kids, one 18 and one 15, and I think they were surprised the homeowner was home.   It was a busy day as I swept the house and picked up the major sticks in the yard.   Also watched 2 EPL matches and getting ready to watch a Mexican league in a few.   Took down the Christmas train as well.   Talked to Lucas today and we will just be seeing him tomorrow, which is fine with us.   Weather may be dicey early in the morning but should be good the rest of the day.  It was nice and sunny today with temps near 50.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good evening,

We never made it to the show.  After grocery shopping and some other errands I ran out of time.  The remainder of the day was relaxing.  The wife made tomoato-basil soup for dinner.  I just finished watching an old SNL with Eddie Murphy as the host and I laughed quite a bit.  It's time for bed now.

Mornin' boys.  Overcast and 30 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Hopefully it will rain early then clear out.  Need to get onto yatchet and pop in a new fuse.

SPMan - Idea Perhaps we can start our own band.  We got Chief on the fiddle, jonadel on the horn, and Blueberry on vocals.

Hudson - A good FTO is a must.  I remember mine didn't like me.

fife.....As ideas go, this is definitely one of your worst. Laugh

Attended the Train Show in Cbus yesterday.  Purchased a new MTH Chessie work crane for $35.00.  MSRP @ $50.00.  One problem with this type of crane is the cab's smoke stack has clearence problems at low tunnels or bridges even with the boom down on a tender.

For the Grandsons, we found ten brand new in the package hot wheels cars for $5.00.  We always find new hot wheels for fifty cents, especially at the Dalton Show in Wayne County, Ohio.

Dissapointed in the amount of O Gauge at the show, but S Gauge was unbelievable.  There was even a vendor selling S Gauge parts.  Several nice layouts.  The MVMRR layout was very impressive.
