Good morning all,

This is day number 5 now with sore throat, runney nose, and cough.  Called doctor this AM.  Waiting for call back with either medicine or appointment to come in.  Wife is doing a lot better.

My oldest son and his family took the younger son out for his birthday last night but we stayed home and gave our gift when he got home.  We did our birthday dinner with him on August 1st so he really got two dinners.

Got my umpteenth call this morning from "energy program" scam guy.  Played along for a while then told him that I did not want anything to do with it.  He said why and I hung up.

A little cooler today but it still feels hot to me.

later,

Ray

Good Afternoon Fellow TrainNerds !

Friday went well at the museum, no pileups. Thumbs Up

Saturday was my veg-out day, the weather for it was great. Kinda rainy, a few minor downpours, but nice and cool so we had the doors and windows wide open. Thumbs UpThumbs Up However the heat with really high humidity was back again on Sunday, just know the electric company wil be extremely happy. $$$$$

Missed out on a couple of items at Stout Auctions last Friday, didn't think my bids would hold-up but I set my limit and no more.

Ray, AngelAngel for you and the Mrs.

Fife, Pictures ?????

Roy, That CAB-1L is fantastic, so much better than it's predecessor. At least you didn't have to dodge any road apples on your commute. Whistling

Going in Wednesday for a CT scan, they can't figure out what is going on with the sinus thing.

Later all.

Good Afternoon,

Thought I should "drop In", everything OK here.  Kay had 1st Kemo treatment last week, and she did pretty well.  No real strong or negative side affects yet.  But, we know they are coming.  Dr. gave her a prescription for a "Cranial Prosthesis", (wig).  Lots and lots of Dr appointments going on.  I dont think that is necessarily a good sign IMO.  I was suppose to have an appt with the leg Dr today, but it was rescheduled to Wednesday, due to an emergency procedure he had to perform.  (I'm OK with that.)  Will be glad to see the Dr. I have a couple of concerns that I need to discuss with him.  So hoping for the best.

Sat out on the patio a couple of days electrifying some G scale buildings with lights.  All in all came out rather well.  Want to do the same to a couple of other yard decorations, then see about locating them and getting them hooked up.

A friend of mine asked me to check out an engine he had, that was cutting off on his layout.  It is a MTH PS2, so checked it on my layout and it ran fine.  Actually ran it for a good hour with no problem.  Then stopped it on a switch and it would not restart, moved it to an active portion of the track, still no start.  Then re-added the engine, and it was fine.  So appears to be a battery issue.  As it turns out the engine has a BCR installed in it, removed the BCR and put in a 9v battery, and the problem went away.  Engine restart with no problem after power had been removed for an extended period of time.  So discussed with the friend and he agreed that would replace the BCR with a MTH rechargeable battery.  Done so, and everything is good.  I decided I wanted to check the documentation on MTH's website.  (Engine is a SW1500 Switcher Cab No. 6713.  Spent at least 2-3 hours trying to find anything on their website, couldn't.  It became a real challenge.  Then I noticed that the chassis appeared to have been signs of being repainted.  So I checked the number boards.  Sure enough they were different.  So this is a really rare engine or a repaint.  Funny, when I checked the number board ID, it came right up.  (#1113).

Got my umpteenth call this morning from "energy program" scam guy.  Played along for a while then told him that I did not want anything to do with it.  He said why and I hung up.

Ray

Ray,

We too are swamped with these calls! I am beyond being frustrated, so I've begun to "play" with them.  Some of the things I've done;

- Ask them to hold a minute, take the phone into the bathroom, flush the toilet.  Then wait a bit and enthusiastically answer again.

- Make other sound affects with the line open, like yelling as in a domestic fight, or go back to the call then ask if they can hold a little more.

- Then the contractors, tell them my son is a General Contractor, and they usually reply they will make a note and remove me from the list.

- My favorite is the foreign computer guys that call saying my computer is causing a problem and they need to help me fix it.  I'll have those guys on the phone for a 1/2 hour, while I'm sounding devastated over the problem.  On and on, they finally give up.

This is what happens when you have too much time on your hands.  (Just had one call for termite inspection, they are from the city.  Asked if they had a business license, "no", then told them I had a brick house.)

Well got to get busy, think I'm going to go and sort out the screws, nuts, and nails in the hardware cabinet, while I wait for some phone calls.

Take Care ALL and Stay Healthy!!!!!

Good evening all,

RT, that gives me an idea.  I have my soccer bell that I ring when the teams score (sadly that is not used very often).  A couple of chimes with that should do the trick.  How to describe the weekend?  The weather was wonderful.  We found a great antique store near Cincinatti, traffic and road construction was not bad, and the food places where we ate was great.   The race did not go well.  Ganassi won with Dixon going from last to first, Sato ran out of gas and Newgarden had a bad pit stop that cost him a possible win.  Next year I am wearing a different shirt.  I had to laugh at a sports headline on the Fox sports web site, talking about the next possible Danica in NASCAR.  Clearly some one did not do their homework as the lady in question is Milka Duno.  Nothing against Milka as she is a classy lady, but a close examination of her career is not what it seems to be.  I do wish her well, and I would laugh maniacally if she would get a win before Princess Sparkle Pony.   Time will tell.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good morning.  Slept late.  Was a long tiring day and evening.  Town Board lasted until 10:30.  Some folks getting free sidewalk in front of their property didn't want it. Confused Sigh  After that we had closed session to discuss buying more property downtown.

Good to see my old "buddy" Buckeye posting again.  We felt sorry for him as his great bandleader was fired for bad things.  So, we let him out on compassionate release.  He was fed real good while in captivity.  Lots of grits and sweet ice tea.

Chores at home and mow [rains make grass grow].  New upstairs A/C unit starting to be installed tomorrow.  Parker's Pond work rest of week too.

Afternoon all

Good to 'see' Buckeye is alive and well

Didn't make it to the trainshow this past weekend, too busy celebrating Christina's birthday and getting stuff done around the house.

Ordered new windows for the kitchen and picked up the wood to build a shelf beside the kitchen wall cabinet that is falling down... hope this 'fix' will last at least 2 years, then will look into a new kitchen (home ownership really has its drawbacks at times, especially when people do things on the cheep and you don't realize it till it is too late).

TheQ is out-of-town tonight, so it is just me and the kiddos. BTW - Banks Grandson looks very healthy!

What I did this summer, by Buckeye.

Did some train chasing,

 Did some track inspections, too.

Did historic tour narrations.

Tried new things for breakfast instead of Cheerios.

Worked on the layout

Took Mrs. Buckeye out for breakfast

Took a boat ride.

Good evening all,

Good to see Buckeye back.  Busy day at work.  Some problems fixed, others created.   Called director of referees for this weekend's games and was told all games were filled.   Hmmm.  Next weekend I could work will also be home games for high school kids.  Maybe my card will be filled as well.   Quiet night at home for once.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Evening all!

Buckeye - Welcome back - woe for OSU band program continues.

V8 - hope the dog thing works out for you. I had a somewhat similar situation with a neighbor with a yard full of barking dogs all night every night for months. My situation (and involved neighbors) did not end well. Laws only seem to protect law breakers.

We were able to sit on our back porch this evening and enjoy a rare evening thunderstorm that did not simply blow through. Lasted a while and we got about an inch of badly needed rain and a cool breeze.

Regards, Roy

Morning all.  Sunny and humid.  Got a pickup load of train boxes.  Had stored lots of train [engine and cars] boxes in attic.  Cleaned out last night [since it was cooler than in the day].  Saved the engine boxes that are important and stored in Train Box.  Others, off they go to the collection center.  No joke, pickup load.

Waiting for guys to come install upstairs A/C unit.  Have central heat/air [we added as house built in 1940] but not zoned.  Will make it easier to cool.  Heat is no problem as open stairway pulls it up during the winter.  I triple insulated attic several years ago.

Got some Town stuff to do today too.  Mow neighbors' yards later.  Did mine late yesterday.

Buckeye, is that the red hood of the Duisenberg? Wink

Have a good one.

Good morning all,

Ahhhh! Buckeye and the Chief together again!  A friendship made in heaven.  Buckeye, glad to see you back.  Was worried that you had fallen off one of those bridges you inspect.

V8 Dennis, too bad I'm not on the jury if that Pit Bull case goes to trial.  Sounds like a no brainer to me.  Too bad you and your neighbor had to ride all over heck on subways etc to deal with this jerk.  I  hope you get justice for your dog and the one that was killed.

D. Baker, best wishes and prayers for continueing treatments for Kay.  One solar panel guy asked me "when was the last time you had your air conditoner checked?"  I said about 10 years ago and told them that I called the A/C people at that time and the guy said "is your air conditioner running?"  I said yes.  He said "then what are you calling me for".  Haven't called him since.  When painters call, I have a built in answer.  I do have a brick house.  However they garage is wood but I won't tell.

Feeling better today.  I think the antibiotics are working now.

Thanks Doug notta for the prayers.  We can use them.

later,

Ray

Wanted to swing through and say Hi.  Summer has been busy in many ways.  Been dealing with some family health issues. My Dad had another heart attack in mid July and has been recovering and doing well.  Wife's grandfather is battling lung CA.  The outlook is not very good.  We are doing what we can though.

When possible I have been pushing through the final items in the basement.  Carpet is installed and after I install the base this weekend it will be on to benchwork. FINALLY!

Good morning all,

V8, they lost 6 homes in that fire.  The guys that did it probably don't have 15 cents if you sued them.  They will probably be out of jail in a couple of months on good behavior.   After all that has been written about Sterling, I couldn't figure out why his picture  was on the front page of the times with a big article.  This story is old.  I don't get it.  Tommy Lasorta of Dodger fame was a friend of Sterling.  He said of the woman who taped him that he didn't wish her any harm but that she should be run over by a car to paraphrase. Anyway, I didn't even read it  I've heard enough about this jerk.

Evening all,

Well it hovered around 95 all day due to some high clouds. About 4 pm the clouds dissipated and Boom, it's 100. 98 in the shade at 7 pm but we grilled out and sat on the back patio with some cool beverages while grilling.

Cowboys play tonight. Announcer just commented there are more Cowboys on injured list than the 11 on the field. Our #2 critically needed left tackle draft pick is out for 13 weeks with a broken foot. They can't even make it through 1st segment of training camp. Gonna be another looooong season.
