Evening all.  Went eat to Wilson, NC and Parkers' Bar-be-que.  Ate eastern NC bar-be-que [pork], fried chicken, boiled potatoes, yellow cole slaw [mustard base], brunswich stew and fried corn sticks.  Had plenty of sweet ice tea to wash it down.  Bet I ate a lb. of bar-be-que and 5 pieces of chicken.  Plop plop fizz fizz [Alka Seltzer]  [this stupid software has changed to bold again Angry]
Had busy day.  Cemented in big posts for gate and fence wire on the back sewer easement at the pond.  Setup till next week when we will hang the gate and fence.  Then it will be all locked up. Thumbs Up
Now TV.

Good Morning Guys! 70 going to 82 and SUNNY! My son and I did some fishing this morning. We had a 6:10 High tide, so we fished the tide until slack and came in early when the fishing died down. We caught a number of small bluefish, a good sign for hopefully the Weakfish will be back in a week or two. Today it is cut the grass and service a few engines. "Johnsson" finished his first week of the Academy. It was tough and they had a dropout already, but he said that he is enjoying it even with all of the "in your face" stuff. Thoughts and prayers for all with their situations. Enjoy the Day! John

Morning all.  Pouring rain and cool.  Suppose to rain and be cool for two to three days.  What ever happened to hot and irrigating during August?

Not much happening today.  Go to Hunters Haven for a few.  Then 90th Birthday party for Mrs. Dorothy [black lady friend lives at entrance of Parker's pond].  I help look after her.  Big party at the church.  Taking special proclamation.

Tomorrow, suppose to go with Golden Corral folks to visit a Camp Corral.

Hope all have a great weekend.

No rain here. What we have gotten are storms instead of a good soaker.

Also cooler than normal this summer. The bill for my July A/C was $22.00.

Greetings!

Have returned from another successful raid on the South land!!

Stopped in NC long enought to catch my breath and a few zzzz's then did a healthy 2 hour nap at South of the Border.  Left at 5pm Thursday and got into my room at 3pm the next afternoon.

It was a JOY to spend several days with my beloved Princess.  She loves her Reliant!!!  Left her with tears in my eyes and a full tank of gas....lol.  The A/C crapped out on the way and my buddy in FLAUSA will get it repaired when she is ready.

Just trying to get reacclimated to work.  Busy, busy, busy.

Prayers to those in need.

Been busy doing the prep work for my Hemi owners meet, I darn near can't see straight....plus my cataract makes this more fun...lmao.

Work today and I have to get back to it.

Frank, I've heard of Parkers Bar-B-Que in Wilson.  Isn't Wilson just a few miles South of Rocky Mount?  Both on the old ACL main line.  I heard that Bob Melton's in Rocky Mount closed for good.  That's the place I remember for Bar-B-Que in the old days.  Same kind of food.  I think they even had collard greens and banana pudding for desert.

Did not even turn the computer on yesterday so don't know what I missed if anything.

Doctor says I have early stages of diabetes so I've been trying to watch my diet but it's hard.  Staying away from carbs when possible.  Have to lose 10 lbs to start.

Went out to train room/garage to watch a DVD about moving the Big Boy from California to Cheyenne.  DVD player in house would not work but the one in the train room did.  Probably be a long time before the engine is overhauled.  There seems to be a verbal battle going on between the old steam crew and the new one on another forum.  I have no dog in that fight.

Both my son's are coming over for dinner out tonight.  Oldest wife and son are going to her parents for the evening.

Hot weather and drought still with us but cool at night.  It is so dry in the city park that the grass is almost all gone in places where peope sit for the concerts in the park every Sunday.  I don't think they have been watering it.  Afraid of breathing dust just walking around in there plus there is a 12 step group that meets there every day and they all still smoke even thought the signs say no smoking in the park.  Guess they think the rule is for everyone else but them.  I like to walk around on a circular sidewalk for excercise under the shade trees on hot days but I don't wan't to run the gauntlet through all that smoke.  I have COPD.

Church group going to brunch after mass tomorrow morning.  They usually have good food where we go.

later,

Ray

Evening all.

Gorgeously glorious summer day here in the land of crack smoking mayors.  Picked up a load of obsolete electronics today...one can never have too many tube amplified intercoms.  You thought storing train boxes was bad, eh?  It's the price one pays for one good radio.

Spent the other night modifying and weathering a '32 Ford model for the layout....my first attempt at such.  Found it ironic that my work involves doing the exact opposite to the real things.  The boss hates rat rods.

Wow what a birthday party. She was 90 today.  3 hours long.  Held at the black Church here in their fellowship hall.  Lots of folks.  Guess what?  Buffett with bar-be-que and fried chicken. Dinner  "Miss Dorothy" and hubby adopted one girl.  No children of their own.  They helped "raise" the whole community.  She was very active in the Church until she could not walk well.  She worked as janitor with Wake County Schools and then Mrs. Roberts' [lady who built and lived in this house] housekeeper.  Then she was housekeeper for Mrs. Parker [who grew up in this house, married and moved down the street. also, Parker's Pond].  Now in a wheelchair [but can get up and walk some], she is still out spoken and still cooks.  Seems in earlier years, Mrs. Dorothy's was the place to go for big meals or to eat if you didn't have food.
What a legacy.

Ray, you are right about Rocky Mount and Wilson.  The bar-be-que places too.  Actually, Rocky Mount was the main shops and etc. for the ACL.  When I was little, I would ride with Dad on the old Chevy pickup, or Granddad's old big Chevy flatbed, to get "used crossties" from the ACL yard.  We used them for fence posts on the farm [some still standing].  I have seen big steam engines with their boilers open and guys inside welding.  Cars being repaired in buildings.  The old big engine houses and car shops are still there [abandoned].  The car shops had sliding tracks in a pit so the cars could be moved from shop to shop and different tracks [acres of them].  Shame all is going to waste.  Wish someone like O. Winston Link had taken photos.  All seen in my mind.  There still is a big switching yard there.

Now for TV.

Good Evening All.

Nice day here today, only 85* and low humidity. Cooler than normal but I ain't gonna complain.

Was working on a rather lengthy post Thursday evening but "Phhhttt" it was gone, to crabby to start over. Grumpy Yesterday was a good day at the museum although I had a nasty crash, seemed to delite the guests. Running on the lower level that has an option of running a folded figure 8, which I used, and lo-n-behold a coupler opened leaving the dining car and three coaches sitting on the crossing. Before I noticed the problem the leading half came around and smacked 'em right between the diner and a coach. Photos to follow when available, ntsb investigation underway. Laugh

Don, Jeff W. paid us a visit yesterday and spent a good bit of time touring the layout and asking questions. Think I convinced him to invest in a CAB1-L for TMCC operations.

Went by Michael's Thursday afternoon to check out the new halloween stuff, came home and printed out a 40% off coupon and it was good for the "Mt Gloom Observatory" otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. Between the coupon and some odds-n-ends of gift cards it only cost $11 out of pocket. If I get anymore halloween stuff I'm going to have to build a new layout for them.

Rich, When you get those cataracts done you will be amazed at the difference and how quickly the procedure is done.

Later all !

Good evening all,

Somewhat a sad, strange day.  Went to Train Express for the last time.   Was hoping they may have started their clearance sales, but no such luck.  Did make an offer on one item, but was told it was too low.   Wife and I did buy some shoes elsewhere so it was not a busted trip.   Came home and mowed the lawn in less than an hour (thank you, TORO!), and made it to soccer field in time to see a strange soccer scrimmage.  I thought it was going to be a girls intra-squad event, but they mixed the girls and boys so that boys offense played the boys defense and the same with the girls.  It was kind of odd, but no one got hurt and the kids got lots of touches.  The weather was nice as well.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 70 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Spent past 3 days up in the Mountains.  Had Wifey, all 3 princesses, and grandson in tow.  Had a nice stay with my folks, and spent Friday afternoon on the water at Deep Creek.  Travelled trackside through 3 states, and didn't see one train running.  Sheesh.

Cloudy and cool morning to all.  Off to one of the Camp Corrals with the Golden Corral crew.

Death and destruction by Dougsnotagrump.  Major train disaster.  All because he was drinking coffee on the job. Wink

Fifey, bet you are tired.  Trips with lots of folks in tow can be tiring and trying. Confused

Have a great week.

Watched NASCAR race.  Always cool when it's a first time winner.  Terrible news concerning Stewart though.

Hey Guys!

First things first, Chief, Do you have any recommendations for a clothes dryer?  Ours just took a dump today.  I think its the motor, but maybe, just maybe it may be a capacitor or something else.  Will have a repair guy out tomorrow to see.

Really too bad about the Tony Stewart situation!  That's going to be really hard for him to get past that!  Hard to fix blame, I think both guys were responsible.  Kevin Ward should have waited to get back to the pits to confront the situation.  And, I find it hard to believe that Stewart couldn't have avoided him.  I wouldn't be surprised if Stewart was just wanting to throw some dirt his way.  I'm certain he wasn't intending on hitting him though.  Just a case of reacting to tempers and the heat of the moment, with terrible consequences.  (IMO)

On the home front, Kay is really doing well!  So far the treatments haven't been too bad, she has been able to handle them without getting sick, or other significant issues.  Still probable that she will loose her hair, most likely in the next week or 10 days.  She is making arrangements for a "Cranial Prosthesis" (medical term for wig).

On the other hand, I had a Dr appointment this past week, and given the way things were going, I wasn't looking forward to it.  Unfortunately, I was right.  Have still yet another issue with the leg, and will most likely require yet again, another surgery.  Have a 2nd opinion coming up Monday the 18th, and will most likely result in having a "rod" put in my leg.  Expect surgery in 2 or 3 weeks.  Then will start the recovery process AGAIN!

Haven't been out in the train room much.  Tried today for awhile, but it was just to awkward and uncomfortable.  Think I need to make a project list, so I can identify things that I can do.  And, not loose the things I need to do.

Doug, the Jeff that was at your place must have been the one from Angel Gate.  From what I understand they are still having problems with DCS.  I sure wish them luck.

Take Care All!! And Stay Healthy !!

Actually, LG.  This set has been outstanding.  Wifey now loves LG.  Samsung is good too.  Kenmore is made by LG and Samsung [depends on which model].

This is the one I have been dreading and expecting from processing the information from all the phone conversations we've had.  Was a year ago this past week.  This is not good but needs to be done to insure its "fixed" right.  Praying.

Now gang, as far as Kay is concerned, she will be fine.  She is a tough "bird".  Don is a lucky man to have her.

Off to bed.  Sleep tight.

Morning all!

Cooler here. High 90s today and for a few days. Back to 100s by weekend.

Don B - glad to hear about Kay and sorry about the leg. Hope you get best possible outcome.

The NASCAR race barring the delays was one of the best in years. AJ and Ambrose banging into each other around that road course was amazing. Too bad about that Stewart dirt track incident.

Lots of work this week so back to it.

Good morning all,

Don, really sorry to hear about another possible surgery on the leg.  Prayers going out big time for you.  This is not fair.  You have had more than your share.  Best wishes to Kay also.

Went to brunch yesterday with group from church.  Got mad but kept it to myself.  I arrived at the restaurant ahead of all the others and made seating arrangements for about 12 of us.  I was told the preferred area that I wanted was not available so I took second best.  When the rest of the group arrived we were all seated and everyone seemed satisfied with the location.  However, one guy in the group (a control freak in my opinion) could not leave well enough alone and probably made a scene to get us in the better spot.  Next thing I know they are moving us all to another spot in the restaurant.  I'm glad we got the better location but I felt like he made a fool out of me.  Will have words when I catch him alone.  Probably should just drop the whole thing.

Still having a hard time organizing personal family business after having to take over everything wife used to do.  I need a secretary if I could afford one.  Maybe temporary help is available somewhere.

Sticking to my low carb diet all week and being careful.  Don't think I lost a pound yet but will keep it up.  Cheated at restauant with small sliver of pie for desert but that will be my limit for the whole week.  The doctor told me not to try and do it all at once.  I think he's right.

later,

Ray

Afternoon all

Fife think you may be onto something there with the Peg Leg Smile, Wink & Grin Laugh

Been slowly but surely start working on layout again. Got the second level there (4' x 6'2" ) and got the indoor outdoor carpet down, but letting it settle out before I staple it down. It's basically there but just making sure probably will do that tomorrow.

Need to figure how to work in green grass and brown grass have an idea and think it will as green is on the front and the brown is on the side ( both coming down from second level to bottom level ) and that will take some blending and on the brown side have a construction type where there working on the hill itself. Time will tell.

Lion88 - If you get an answer on how to get the editor working correctly, please share it. The tool bar does not show up and I can't make paragraph breaks to stay. All of that works if I use a different computer that is running an older version of the browser. Probably a setting hidden away somewhere. D Baker - good news about your wife, bummer about your leg. Hang in there. The Tony Stewart situation is unfortunate. The dirt track we ran at several years back when I was helping my friend with his car had a rule that the drivers were to stay in the car after a wreck until the track workers said it was OK to get out. The exception was if the car was on fire big time. It was not uncommon for the driver to still be in the car as it was towed off of the track.
