Jon...You need more states on your map.

Jon, what are those states?  States you rode your motorcycle in [if so, airlifted to FL]?  Visited,  I know you have been to NC and had sweet ice tea.  Laugh

Frank--those are the states my son & I have visited on our motorcycles.  Florida was a rental bike in Key West when my wife and I visited several years ago.  I've had grand plans to make a big trip east/south but then son got married plus now he has a family.  Now that we are grand parents my wife chooses not to ride any longer so I'm not sure where my future rides will go.  We have family in CO and AZ so often I trailer my bike to those states and get to ride those beautiful mountain roads.  I truly wish I could color in every state.

Jon

So many roads, so little time.

Good evening all, Another wasted. Watched an Ellen Page flick about roller derby today, "Whip It". Very good movie. Had part of the Super Bowl on. Not much of a game. Commercials that I saw were ok. Turned it off 3rd quarter. I hope everyone has a good day. Keep on training, Mike C. from Indiana

Cloudy & about 20 today, getting steadily colder as the day went along. Woke up to about 1/2" of ice on everything yesterday, then about 1/2" of snow on top of that this morning. Kind of a wasted weekend. My wife and I took care of minimal chores and pretty much 'nested' the rest of the time. All for now.

Good night all.  Been reclinerizing.  Left ear canal has closed off with what I think is an abscess.  Haven't had one since 1969.  As a teenager, use to have them all the time.  Had to be lanced to remove the infection.  Reason I know when I had the last one.  It was in 69 was when I discharged from the Army.  Air Force Dr. [I was attached to Homestead AFB] didn't want to do anything about it.  I got home, side of head was swollen and bruised.  It burst and later I had to have an operation to remove some isolated junk.  That is why I have a scar on the left side of my head under my ear.  Hurts like the devil. Ick!

Took a sleeping pill.  Cloudy and 45.

Sleep tight.

Konnichiwa and Ohayo Chuck,

Wow!  I think I wasted a day off by staying home to watch the Super Bowl this morning.  That was a horrible performance by the Broncos.  I can’t believe I watched three full quarters of the game.  However, it is always nice to be at home with the wife and the youngest.  We’re having chili for dinner tonight; it’s been on the stove since noon.

Laz – The mountain looks great.  I think you’re idea of doing it in sections was extremely smart.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill............

Good Morning,  Joe.......

It is 30 degrees. Snowed about 2 inches last night. Going up to 34 today with no more snow.

I wasted a few hours, yesterday, watching the Super Bowl.  Yes, Joe, the Broncos did not show up.

Today is a busy day. Wife is grocery shopping and I am doing chores. Then, some paperwork and lunch. A nice nap will be needed.

Cheerios on the dining car for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Monday.

Hi GUYZ,

LET IT SNO, Let it SNO, Let it SNO!!!!  Got about 4 inches and still a snowing, TANKs CHUCK!!!!  Gonna get more tis week, Wednesday, Saturday!!!  YEA!!!  Going out and do some cross country skiing later today with WIFE and MINNIE dog.  Gotta shovel driveway first.

Blow out in the BIG GAME last night.  Yea SEAHAWKS, bet everyone though MANNING was gonna pick em apart.  From first play it was over from there.  On a sad note, we watched the game at WAYNES in MILLERSBURG.  Been going there for 20 years and he is closing down at the end of the month.  Gonna miss the fine food and fun times but life goes on.  The good thing about it was he has asked me if I wanted to buy his PRR pics that had adorned his place all those years, PRR tracks now NS 20 feet outside of WAYNES.   I said yes SIR!!  Got 4 of the six prints he had there that were professionally matted and framed all of the PRR steam K4s, in its hay day and they were shot just outside of WAYNES establishment.  Got them at a great price too.  Thanks WAYNE for all da memories and BEER too.

BOB, yes I got the ALIENS, BIG FOOT and LOCHE NESS MONSTER all on the layout along with DA CHIEFs STILL up near BUCKEYEs house.  Check out Sunday Photo Fun for close ups.

Today gonna start a new project in train room on my coaling layout.  Gonna pick up track and put down 15 lb. tar paper for black coal effect then do some coal banks and maybe a "bootlegger" operation, JOEY D. knows about bootleggers, he's a COALCRACKER, right JOEY.

Good Afternoon! 30 degrees with a mix of snow, rain and sleet.

Big change in the weather from yesterday. From 50 and sunny to 30 and a wintery mix. Yesterday's Super Bowl was a disappointment. Yeah, I watched the whole game. The positive that came out of the game was that Peyton Manning showed that he had CLASS! At the end he stopped to greet ALL of His Fans and autograph whatever they wanted. I got this firsthand from a guy that I used to work with. He called me a little while ago. Commercial wise, on a whole disappointing except for Dorritos and Budweiser. My favorite commercial was the Budweiser commercial with the puppy and the Clydesdales second was the Dorrito Time machine.

Laz: Wayne's sounds like it is a great place. Maybe a road trip this month.

Chief: Hope the ear is better.

Doug M, Jon, Don, Speedy Recovery!

SJ: I did not win anything either!

Enjoy the Day!

Greetings From Snowy Taxachusetts,

So much for a quick warm up this past weekend here on Cape Ann.  The temps are about 25 degrees colder today @ 33 and light snow is falling.  Could get 5-10 more inches of the white stuff Wednesday.  Thursday and Friday's overnight temperatures could dip into the single digits again.

The wifey and I attended a church sponsored charity dinner dance Saturday night benefitting the Franciscan Children's Hospital in Boston.  This is the place the acute care hospitals send the children for recovery and rehabilitation.  There but for the grace of God go I.  No matter how tough we parents and grandparents think we have it, others have it far worse.  One only has to read the posts from guys on the POT to put things into perspective for me.  For those of you who are struggling, prayers for you guys and for your families.Angel

I took my car in for the annual inspection, a new battery, an oil change, and a couple of new belts as the ones on the car were about done.  I got the car back, and now the new belts were screeching on cold start up and even when the car is warmed up.  So the car is back at the mechanic's.  This guy is new for me since my trusted mechanic of about 19 years retired, sold the business to another guy, and moved to Texas.  This guy has struck out at his first at bat with something I consider simple and basic stuff.  Profuse apologies ensued when I dropped the car off again, but I still expressed my disappointment to the mechanic.  What if my wife were out on the road with the grandkids or the dogs?  The buck stops with me. Bang Head SoapBox

The Super Bowl was a real shocker to me.  Denver got whomped!!!  Who would have thought that a Manning led team would be help to 8 points?  I lost interest and my wife siezed the opportunity and commandeered the remote.  Wound up with a faceful of Downton Abbey and some program re Henry VIII called the other Boleyn (Mary, not Ann).

LAZ.......the passing of a favorite watering hole that has served you well for nearly two decades.  Sad.  Sad

I hope Mrs. Buckeye is progressing as well as DougM and Jon and HudsonJohn's Mom.  Prayers for you'se guys and all in need.

Later, gang.

Tried to watch the game last night, but lost interest and went out to my garage workbench and put some new bushings in my American Flyer Rocket diesel.  One more truck to go and it's as good as new.

Good morning all,

V8 we got the rain over on my side of town.  Rained pretty good for an hour or so.  This makes two days of brief showers but it is good for the burned areas and not heavy enough to cause mud slides.

Watched the Super Bowl.  What a dud!  Real lop sided game and commercials were not what you'd expect for the super bowl.  My son went to a party to see it.  Said they were all bored to death.  Didn't have much food during the game except some hot dogs and potato salad.  Was going to have sourkraut dogs but did not want to open a can of it for just me so settled for mustard and relish.

Haven't been running the trains too much lately.  I'm sort of gun shy since I had that stripped gear in one of my big steam engines although I have been lubing the rest of them.  The only place you can add grease without taking them apart is through some screw holes under each axle but I don;t think that would be good enough.

Went to healing mass at church yesterday before the game.  Schedule was crowded because mass just ahead of it ran long because of Boy Scout awards and got into our time.  However it all worked out and we had refreshments in the hall after the service.

Noticed somebody made a post about how to post pictures on the forum.  D. Baker gave me the instructions but I haven't tried it yet.  I still have to learn some basics about how to do task on the computer.

Hope Don is doing OK with his latest set back and recovery.  Also Doug M.

Need blood test tomorrow for Dr. appointment following week.  Wife going in for Dr. appointment tomorrow afternoon.  Seems like one or the other of us keep them busy.

Sister going in for second try with the dentist today after cancellation last week.

Big Boy is about 25 miles from where I live now so not conveinient to look at it anymore.  I probably won't bother until they tow it back to Cheyenne in the Spring.  Lots of videos of it on you tube from last week.

Have a train meet this coming Sunday and I plan to take my ailing steam engine in to the repair guru there for a look see.  Hope he comes up with something.

I need to continue my quest to get rid of old magazines and make room for things.  Started last week but haven't made a dent so far.

later,

Ray

Wait.....there was a football game on last night?

Happy snow Monday..Thanks, Chuck, you should get the sights on that snow cannon resetBang Head.

Here at work, why I'm still here I have no clue....torture I assume.  Ah well....it's a job....we'll get hammered tomorrow...and not in a good way.

Got my cheapo used Mel's Diner working last night....$50 for the diner $25 for 3 waitresses and I had the MoPars in stock.  Installed the Challenger where the '57 Chevy was supposed to be and a '57 Chrysler 300 Convertible and '64 Chrysler Turbine Convertable where the T Bird was supposed to be.  AH, GOTTA like those MoPars!  Not bad for the $75 investment and it all works.  I'm going to attempt to light up the Mel's signs and see what happens...

Angel for those in need --- DougM and DonB for sure - my short term memory is shot..

BACK to WORK!!!

Evenin' boys.  Evenin' English.  SNOHIZO was kinda hit or miss in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Kinda missed me, and hit Brent.

Watching the SuperBowl was kinda like watching a train wreck, where the freight cars kept pounding into the pile.  Only would have been better watching Brady being dismantled like that. Whoa.

Demay - You could have warned us all not to waste our time...Dunce

I thought it was funny how TEBOW was doing commercials, instead of the guy that replaced him in Denver.

Laz - Looking good. YesCool  Scenic Express has a funny scene of a flying saucer "beaming" up a cow.  I chuckled and thought of you.

Hey guys,

Well doing better here, woke up this morning and wasn't in any pain, but knee was sore from being in the same position all night.   So today I've gotten up and spent time just making laps around the family room.  Feeling lot better!  And developed a plan of mobility that I WILL pursue.  Up at least 6 or 7 times, making laps in the room.  Then when I have that mastered will go from there.  Cant spend two months just laying around!!  Need to get to where I can do some "walking" outside, get back to where I was.

Then the PT guy came by, reviewed my situation, and he reinforced what I had decided and he further agreed that was the only alternative.  So he is do back on Thursday, between now and then I go for XRays and Dr visit on Wed.  Now when I get up my foot turns purple, I need to get it to where it doesnt change color just by getting up.  After all I have some work I need to do in the train room.  So its all better from here.

Good evening all, IT was at it again with the same results. Wife managed to bring home all the stuff from Menard's today without incident. Good thing as weather turns ugly again this week. She helped out daughter with grandkids as well. Tried to work on Marx engine Saturday night. Before at least the headlight worked and the motor hummed like it was trying to run. Now everything is dead. So much for my mechanical/electrical skills. Life creates a vacuum sometimes. I hope everyone has a good day. Keep on training, Mike C. from Indiana

Aloha. It is good to be here. I appreciate Sir James checking in with me and sharing it with you all before I could get to a computer. Everything went well with the surgery - just have to take  it easy for the rest of the month. I read lots of train mags. I'm not used to sitting around though, so I am glad I'll be able to work from home for a while. Laz, the layout looks great. The mountain is really taking shape.

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

It finally snowed; the first time out here (thanks Chuck).  The snow started to fall around 1300 this afternoon and came down quite nicely for about three hours.  We probably received about two solid inches but unfortunately it did not stick to the roads because it rained for about an hour before the snowfall.  We may get some more snow overnight and the temperature is supposed to remain in the 20s overnight which could cause some driving issues tomorrow.  Fortunately, the kids were able to enjoy the snow for about two hours after school.

Laz – I know about bootlegging.  I bet those photos you obtained from Wayne are cool.  I plan to have some old-time train photos in a train room one day too.  I see there are quite a few available of all the old coal breakers near Shenandoah.

Sorry about that Fife; I dropped the ball on that as badly as the Broncos players. Laugh

Doug – It’s nice to see you post again.  I hope the recovery is going well.

Joe

Aloha. It is cold, grey and soon to snow again tonight - then I guess the snow is off to points east. Wish we had anyone else's weather but I can't complain since I'm OK'd to work at home for the rest of the month. It is good to be able to sit in front of a computer. Praying for Don's continued recovery. Can't say enough how little else matters when you're not feeling well.

Joe, my son and I have been reading a whole series of Japanese folk tales - the weather in those tails is usually pretty rough too - snow storms, typhoons, gully-washing rains. Fortunately, there are enough magical creatures in these stories to see the hero or heroine through.

Hi GUYZ,

Got about 6 inches of SNO HI O!!!!   More to come tonite after 10PM, can't wait?  I did 5 driveways yesterday of all the neighbors, then took dog and WIFE crosscountry skiing of about 4 miles.  I had to break the trail and then along the way clear out tree limbs that broke across the trail.  The snow was a sticky type that didn't allow a good kick and glide, but it was laborious but still fun.  Got another good sweat and made room for a few more beers.  Slept great!  Can't wait for tomorrow.

DOUGM & DON, remember pace yourself.  Slow and steady wins da race.  Continued prayers for YUZ GUYZ.

JOEY D, that's goona be the next thing on my list a few pics of the coal breakers.  I had made one and had it on the layout for years but just ate up too much space so got rid of it.  It was the breaker from the movie the MOLLY MaGUIRES that was filmed outside of Hazleton in 1968.  My DAD worked on the construction for the movie there.  Had quite a few class mated in the film as "breakerboys".  Still one of my favorite movies.

Stay frosty my friends,

Think you all are suffering from cabin fever.  With all the additional health aids at my disposal you wouldn't get through the first line of defense, much less Kay.

Going to get Xrays today, and do minor things around here.  Weather is a bit overcast and probably will be cool, might see a little sun, not sure.  But do have to remember it is still winter, so this weather it to be expected.   Should have some rain the next few days.

Good luck with your chores Chief, hoping the best for both you and Berg.
