Personally ( Kevin and Brent ) there is a ignore button on this forum its self introduced thou its called don't read post by people you don't want to be bother with.

As for attacks Brent you comment could also be considered a personnel attack before Kevin copied and agreed with it then added more to it as it was clear who you where actually referring to without even saying.

I knew when you post from the beginning there would be a difference of opium about gas and the safety of said mention but really hope it wouldn't go to what this did but down deep figured there would be know you made your opium of it which was fine and then some one else make a opium about how its just as safe or something to that don't know why just felt it as what Kevin actually said was no more wrong than what you said about NG and you could of just dropped it there but in my point of view you didn't and that's what brought it to this you both have your opium of how you felt and that's where it should of ended and if you think this is siding one way or the other it isn't you both carried it on to the point we have as you attacks on each other.

Gurp morning, Cloudy and gray and a heat wave with temp at +2. Gas is up to $3.399. BTW the house did not blow up last night.
I went to bed later than I wanted because the daughter called talking house buying till the phone battery went dead. I felt fine, now this morning stuffed up, runny nose, cough, heavy chest, itchy eyes, feel like someone is passing the voodoo doll around and they are taking turns stabling it.  (puke)  I wonder who would do that?

I don't see what all the to do is or where anyone was attacking anybody. I just found the comment about NG funny and said so. Would of done the same if someone did not want to drive a car because they might get in a wreck or won't fly because it might fall from the sky. Oh and I have read the rules. A lot of them don't seem to be followed on some threads. Not for me to decide.

They all blow up or can cause fires.

A true story about NG.

In Jan of 1993 we had a gas main in the street that was 100 years old break because of frost and the fact that it had been capped in 15 places where houses were lost after the 1990 tornado. I woke up at 1:00 am it was -22 degrees outside and I smelled the gas. I went all around smelling for the source and when I open the closet door that had access to the crawl space. That was it!! I had my son get up our daughter and I got the wife up and I called the fire department and TOLD them there was a leak. I then ran out and shut off the gas meter thinking the leak was something to do with the house. They were there in about 3 minutes and guess whet they did. They rang the door bell.  Surprise  They must of missed the training. it took the gas co. 1.5 hours to get there because of equipment problem due to the extreme cold, all the while the house was wide open with fans running to vent it. When they got there they said the gas was so strong that it could not blow up. It was 26% HG in the house and it blows between 3% to 13% . It took 12 hours for the Gas co to run a temp line to feed the house. By then it took 8K to fix the place and three days to warm it back up.  Bang Head

So I got a pretty good idea about NG, We don't have it here and we are on LP.  I would like to set up our gen set to run off the LP.

Some of you are going to have some bad weather so be safe, and,,,

Enjoy your day.

Morning all.  Waiting for it to snow.  Windy and icy air.  Snowing south of us.  Hope to keep power.

Tree trimming guy showed up and is trimming the trees around the house.  Expensive.  If ice comes, will be less expensive due to reduced damage.

Train Box for a while.

Good morning all,

Well, my visit with the doctor had mixed results.  Overall it went well but he says I am  a little too high on triglycerides yet and also BP is up a little so he put me on some pills for that.  He also mentioned that my G.I. doctor had mentioned on his report that I should avoid milk products to cut down on diarrhea.  Would have been nice if the G.I. doctor had told me instead of waiting to find out from my regular doctor.  If he told me it was probably while I was still not awake yet after a colonoscopy.  I only gained one pound since last visit but I think what really happened was that I put on some and took it off again before the visit.  I tried eating my oatmeal this morning without milk.  It wasn't as bad as I thought.  Just added a little hot water to make it fluid.  Had a low carb dinner last night with cauliflower instead of potato plus other vegetables and lean ground meat patty with onions.

Going out to eat with friends from church tonight at Mexican place.  There goes the diet again!

Asked doctor about my hearing yesterday.  Says my ears are clear of any wax etc. so I should get a hearing test.  He will send me to a nose, ear and throat Dr. If I wish but Medicare does not cover hearing test and exams.  I might as well go to Costco where a friend of mine went.  He is satisfied with his hearing aid.  They also have free hearing test.

later, Ray

GRID LOCK in Raleigh.  Forecasters told them this AM, stay home.  Governor told them 2 hours before it started snowing to go home.  Did not listen.   Yankees I'm sure as they say, "We can drive in snow".  Not wet icy snow that freezes to pavement.  We were in Wake Forest 5 miles away when the street covered.  Lady [had to be a Yankee] drove 5 mph the 5 miles.  Caused folds to stall on a steep hill.  Turned on Main Street and drove so slow my speedometer would not register. Caused Main Street [already backed up] to stall for a while. Angry Bang Head  She's and idiot [Wifey says I can't say that and then she called her one].

It started snowing and blowing hard.  Streets covered in 30 minutes.  Wet icy snow.

Staying in.  Hope this does not turn to freezing rain.  If not freezing rain, should keep power.  Forecasters are going to commit suicide if it doesn't turn to freezing rain.  All they can say.  Then snow again tomorrow.  Kids out of schools rest of the week.  Closed today so that was good.

Frank -- stay in!!!!  No one can drive on ice, even with four wheel drive.  Over the years I've driven in the worst possible conditions anywhere, from the mountains of Colorado to northern MN.  From total white outs to black ice and it just becomes impossible.

I truly hope you can avoid the ice, nothing worse.  It's funny to watch our current forecasts, folks are absolutely giddy that we are going to "climb" into the the 30's and mid 40's in the seven day forecast Cool  What an improvement that will be.

Stay safe!

Proof is in the pudding.  Local TV station just interviewed a lady who abandoned her car and is walking 10 miles to get home.  Her words were, "I'm from NY."  Told you so.  This stuff hits the roadways, melts and refreezes to a coat of ICE.  Also, Governor should have ordered 18 wheelers off of the highways.  Most of them are now blocking the US routes and interstates.  Some areas are now switching to sleet and freezing rain.  Temps are at the mid 20's but warmer aloft.

Yeah but how many accidents in your area from southerns who thought because they had four wheel drive they could drive like normal bet a lot I see it all the time but also seen it up north because when someone is sold an 4x4 they should also have to go through a class telling them what this vehicle really can and can not do as so many think oh I got four wheel drive I won't slide or slip thats what four wheel drive is for. they don't connect you now have 4 wheels spinning. ( also front wheel drive vehicles as most think oh its front wheel drive its almost the same as a 4x4 )  instead of just 1 or 2 that's why I'm a firm believe of studded snow tires in the winter in areas that normally get some snow which I would include your area as you do get some about every year. they are not a cure for ice but do help a lot. But there needs to be a time frame to have them on like dec - feb  as they will tear up your roads proven fact.

Thinking about you guys in the path, Like Jon I have driven in everything they can dish out and ICE is the worse.

RT we used to use studded snow tires and chains all of the time when I was young but they outlawed them in the 70s. They tore up the roads and idiots would leave them on all year.

Frank, like I said the Yankee women around here know how to drive in winter conditions and that would be too fast! Tongue Tied

And for those who need it,,,, I found this.

In NY they would have salted and sanded the icy roads. Of course this takes time , supplies and equipment which may not have  been available in quantity as the NC climate is unusually severe this winter.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Big TV station here [TV 5] anchor from NY was on TV from her home.  Tried to drive 20 miles to work.  Drove 4 hours and turned around and went back home.  This is what she told on TV interview.

I lived in NY state for years.  Worked in NY.  Never experienced this.  I was scared.  See, Yankees are not use to this stuff that comes down and then freezes hard.  Motor grader has scraped the street in front of my house as US route.  Vehicles buzzing by.  Two 4 wheelers too [against the law].

Stopped snowing.  Freezing drizzle.  More snow tomorrow as the back side of low comes by.  Headed north.  Watch out Fifey.

Brine twice and now salt and sand.  Trucks with blades and graders at work.  We have several hundred miles of Intestates in our county [a very large and then most populated].  Then several hundred miles of US routes.  All come first.

BTW: Amtrak has canceled all service through NC and SC [including trains to FL.].

Back in the day -- the 60's -- the first thing I would do when I traded cars was to have two very important items:

1.  Studded snow tires (no such thing as front wheel drive) on their own rims.

2.  Tank heater on the engine that I could plug in at night, absolutely essential  with no garage.

I don't miss those days as my trucks , starting in '90 were always 4 wheel drive, if it was really bad I would throw sand tubes in the back.  Because of where we still live I have 4 x 4 SUV or we wouldn't make it up the driveway.  With all that said age now trumps brevity, if it's questionable we happily just stay home Cool

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the low 30s (how long has it been since I used that acronym?).  Work was good today.  Played that all American sport indoors tonight.  Tired and sore.  I hope everybody stays safe and with power.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Hope all are okay in SC, NC and GA etc.  I know you guys aren't used to the ice and snow like we get in MO here on the river.  Take it easy, lay low, and it will all melt off in a day or so.  Good time to play with your trains.

I can't find where to edit my profile like I want - anyone know where they hid all that stuff now?

Pouring rain and 34 degrees per phone [from weather station].  Looks like it is melting the frozen stuff.  Snohio is turning to slush.  Another round of snow tomorrow but not as much as today.  Then 57 by Tuesday.  Street in front of house is clear as DOT has scraped numerous times [there they go again].  Problem is 3/4 of the street [3 lane] is in my driveway entrance.  Well, unless temps drop drastically, we will survive without freezing rain.  South of us is different as they had less snow and more freezing rain.

Thanks for the concerns.

Sleep tight.

PS: BTW: Tonight's Duke and UNC game was canceled.

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

Let the good times roll, there is more snow on the way.  We’re expecting another 8-10 inches starting tomorrow morning.  Since the area has not fully recovered from last weekend’s record snowfall, the base and schools have already decided to close for Friday.  With Monday being a holiday and a scheduled day of leave for Tuesday, I now have a five-day weekend.  I’m looking forward to some fun with the kids and possibly some work on the UTB RR.  Thanks to all you from the US that are sending me your snow and I hope you all are safe.

Doug – Learning about my lineage is exciting for me.  I need to spend more time on my mom’s side now.  I may write out our family’s history one day, but it would only be something to pass on within our family.

SJ – I’ll pass on your offer as we are expecting more tomorrow, but it would be great if you can save it for me. Wink

SP Ray – I’m sorry to hear about the doctor’s report.  If you ever want to chat about a way to eat that I believe could help, shoot me a PM.

Chief – I was looking forward to that game, but postponing it was the safe and smart thing to do.

Sayonara,

Joe

Hello all

Back at work for the week. Another quiet night collecting photons, extra-galactic ones tonight.

No comet or asteroid sightings yet. I've looked at both both for various molecules doing astro-chemistry, but we don't look for new ones. The interesting thing about that is that it is done by comparing photos over time to see if something moves in relation to the background stars. The one that is heading for us will be the hardest one to find.

Laz - the scorpion is actually a 'pet' in a terrarium. But yeah, if you have infestations that can be interesting.

Jack - 'Clawde's' diet is crickets so far. Just got 3 for him before I left to come up to the mountain. Two went missing rather quicklySurprise He can climb objects in the tank, but can't scale the glass. He can move fairly quickly, but doesn't jump or anything. I put an old postcard of the USS Imperator (German liner commandeered during WWI) above his tank. After he is Pandinus Imperator, commonly known as an African Emperor scorpion.

Bookshelf will be handy for radios and trains and the little folding bike is just the ticket for picking up the truck.

All in the weather take care.

Aloha. Sunny but cold. I am jealous of the west coast weather. We still have a few inches of snow packed down hard on most the roads. It's too cold to get it all, though I'm always amazed at what the sunshine can do - on blacktop or a black roof, even with the temps far below freezing.

Chief, I saw how UNC cancelled classes first - but not the big game, until the Duke bus got stuck.

Good mornin' y'all from snowy Cape Ann Taxachusetts, SHOCK!!! Snow has begun and will be with us until tomorrow. Throw in some rain to boot, but the temps will climb above freezing. Points near me to the West and North inland will get 12" but my forecast a mile from the Atlantic calls for half that. Half the scools are closed and the other half will be dismissing at noon. "Winter break" for the kiddies begins tomorrow. Many flights are cancelled because of this East coast weather event, airports jammed with people with reservations hoping to get out. Chief.....after the last fiasco in the Southeast, one would think the Governors would have gotten the message from above and declared a state of emergency, telling business and civilians to stay off the roads......then enforce it. Close some major roads to all but authorized emergency and official vehicles. This weather has been forecast for a few days and comes as no surprise. We had a similar state of emergeny here during Hurricane Bob in 1991. Business closures were mandated by mayors and the governors with a "do it by 10am" directive. Nothing was left up to the civilian population......including women...... :-) Jack.

JON AND ALL......Winter tires, FWD, AWD, studded snow tires, chains on the tires, added weight over the rear wheels. Brings back memories. When I was working East of Seattle, the major roads heading into the mountains like Interstare 90 had State Police checkpoints. Wrong tires or no chains and you were told to turn around and go back. Ice is ice, but some snow tires are better on ice than others. I think in the 1960s the only American passenger car with front wheel drive was the 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado. The Cadillac Eldorado soon followed. But we got by just fine with rear wheel drive and 80 pounds of something heavy like sand bags or free weights in the trunk. :-) Jack

He did.  Then most businesses waited till noon and it was too late.  CBS news lied this AM.  Showed a picture of vehicles supposed abandoned but were not.  Also said we were in for more ice.  We are not.  Getting more snow but too warm for major accumulation. They love to make everything look worse than it is.  Most of the snow is gone due to rain during the night.  We have slush.  Not but a few folks lost power.  That made the local big TV folks cry.  They had forecasted massive power outages.  News media!!!!!!! Sensationalism. Thumbs Down
